ORTHSIDE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE WEEKLY PRIMARY NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents and Carers,

Earlier this week we welcomed our new Preps for the first of their Orientation sessions in preparation for the 2025 school year. This was a lovely time getting to know the students who will be joining our College next year. I would like to thank our Parents & Friends Committee who attended and catered refreshments and snacks for the parents of our new Preps We look forward to welcoming these students again next week for their second Orientation session

I had the privilege of attending the Watsonia RSL Remembrance Day Service this week along with our Primary School Student Leaders. Our students represented Northside Christian College so well and laid a wreath on behalf of our College to commemorate the loss of Australian lives in past wars and conflicts We also gathered our students here at the College and observed a minute's silence while commemorating this special day Remembrance is an important thing to do as we reflect on the past and we can be grateful for the things we have now

Our Year 2 students attended the Scienceworks Museum this week. The students extended their Inquiry learning about Earth and Space Sciences and visited the Planetarium to view the space above It was a rich experience and time of learning, reinforcing the learning that has been happening within the classroom during this term

Our Prep - Year 2 students completed their final swim session at Plenty Valley Swim School this week It has been wonderful observing the students develop their skills over the past 6 weeks and seeing them grow in confidence Swimming is an important skill for children to develop I encourage you to consider enrolling your child in regular lessons outside of school to develop their swimming abilities if they are not currently, particularly if they are still learning basic strokes and skills. Some swim schools also offer intensive learn to swim programs over the summer break, so this may be an option to consider if it suits your family

Our Year 6 students are travelling to Canberra next week for their school camp experience They will be travelling to our Nation's Capital via bus and I pray for their protection while they are away I attended last year and I know how great of an experience this will be for our students. Thank you to the staff who are accompanying our students and I look forward to hearing about their adventures when they return

Our school yard is monitored by staff from 8:15am We do ask that parents who require earlier care for their children utilise our before school care program, managed by Camp Australia. It is not appropriate or safe for students to be dropped off at school prior to 8:15am. We thank you for your assistance and cooperation in this matter

God bless you and have a lovely weekend
