ORTHSIDE CHRISTIAN COLLEGE WEEKLY PRIMARY NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents and Carers,

Our classrooms have been fully engaged in our teaching and learning programs as we reach the middle of Term 1. It has been wonderful to see our students putting in their best efforts and working hard towards achieving their best in their learning. We are in partnership with families to support learning for all of our students. One thing I would encourage is to ensure your children establish daily reading habits Research shows that just 20 minutes of daily reading enhances academic outcomes. Reading regularly exposes children to more vocabulary and supports their learning and progress in school.

Our student leadership group has been involved in hosting a range of clubs during recess and lunch times which provide some excellent options for our students to enjoy during their break times. Some of the clubs on offer include: Choir, Gardening Club, Homework Club, Outdoor Games, Board Games, Art Club, Coding Club and Vision Prayer. These clubs are wonderful places for students to build connections and provide alternative activities of interest for students to participate in. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the student leadership group for all their efforts, as well as thank our staff who support these initiatives.

I would like to bring your attention to an event we will be hosting for parents with a guest speaker Daniel Principe. Next Tuesday evening Daniel will be covering some hot topics that are not always easy to navigate as parents, especially as children get older. It is always wise to prepare. Can I encourage you, even if you have younger children, this session will be informative and will address topics such as consent, relationships,

stereotypes, and the influence of porn culture, offering strategies to manage the social and cultural forces shaping wellbeing. If you are attending, please RSVP via the link provided.

Do remember, that if you have any concerns about your child's learning or if you have questions about issues that arise, do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher.

I pray for God's blessing to be upon you and your family. Have a wonderful weekend.

The Wellbeing Barometer survey is an invaluable tool for schools, providing critical insights into the mental health and wellbeing of young people. This annual survey identifies areas of concern, highlights resilience and adaptability in students, and emphasises the importance of preventative strategies to promote positive outcomes.

Participation in this survey is strongly encouraged, as it offers a comprehensive view of students' experiences, challenges, and achievements. By capturing a detailed understanding of young people's experiences, the survey supports a tailored approach to enhancing their mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. It helps to identify strengths and areas for improvement, as well as pinpoint opportunities for early intervention.

The survey is part of an ongoing longitudinal study, and we encourage you to take a few moments to complete the survey for each of your children. Responses remain anonymous and should be based on your observations over the last 12 months By working together, we can reduce the long-term impact of mental illness and make a meaningful difference to the lives of our young people for a brighter future.

We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.

If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help
