A MESSAGE FROM MR CHRIS DROWLEY

I was recently informed by concerned members of our community that some Northside students were displaying unsafe behaviours on Plenty Road around tram tracks. Students were observed crossing the tracks while trams approached and playing ball games while at the tram stop. We have been able to identify some of these students and address these issues with families. However, I encourage you, if your children walk home or catch public transport, it is important that you speak with them regularly about the importance of behaving safely near roads and tram tracks While wearing the Northside uniform, we would expect that students are representing our College well, even as they travel to and from school.

During this past week our students have had opportunities to grow through a range of diverse, hands-on experiences. It is my privilege to be able to share a few highlights with you

A number of our Years 4 - 5 students took to the stage in the 2025 Chinese Talent Competition, presenting a beautiful performance that brought together language, learning and faith. With guidance from Ms. Tracy Xu, students told a Bible story in Mandarin and followed it with a Chinese Christian song boldly sharing the message of God’s love in a second language It was inspiring to see students from different backgrounds working together to honour both cultural expression and our College’s Christian identity.

Our younger students in Years 1 - 2 continued their gymnastics program at PIT Gymnastics. Each session challenges them physically and encourages the development of gross motor skills, balance and confidence Watching our students jump, roll, balance, and climb with joy and perseverance has been a joy

In District Sports this week, our Years 5 - 6 teams faced Plenty Parklands in football, soccer, and lawn bowls. Their sportsmanship, effort, and unity were outstanding It was a pleasure to see them representing the College with pride and determination For some students, sport wasn't the focus this week—instead, they took part in our ongoing service learning partnership with Goodstart Early Learning. There, they supported young children through play, reading, and positive mentoring. Their care and leadership reveal their developing character and growth.

In all these experiences, our students are exploring their God-given gifts, stepping out of their comfort zones, and making meaningful contributions to the world around them.

I am grateful to God for a week filled with growth, joy, and purpose. Our school community is one that continues to encourage every child to flourish in their own unique way

I pray you have a wonderful long weekend ahead. We look forward to seeing the students return on Wednesday 11th June next week.

God bless you,

BOOK WEEK AND COSTUME SELECTION

Friday 22nd August 2025

As we look forward to celebrating Book Week together, we are excited about the opportunity to encourage a love of reading and creativity across our school community This is a special time where students can bring their favourite characters and stories to life through costume and imagination

This year’s theme is Book an Adventure, and we encourage students to explore books that inspire courage, curiosity, and character-building journeys. As we prepare for this fun and meaningful event, we would like to remind families of a few important guidelines to ensure that our celebration reflects the values of our Christian ethos:

Costumes should be positive, respectful, and in keeping with our Christian Values. We ask that students choose characters who embody traits such as kindness, bravery, honesty, and compassion.

Please avoid costumes that are scary or inappropriate, including witches (good or bad), wizards (good or bad), demons, vampires, zombies, or any that involve blood, gore, or horror themes These can be upsetting to our younger students and are not in line with our school values

Weapons of any kind, such as swords, guns, or other imitation weapons, are not permitted.

Students should be dressed modestly and appropriately, with costumes that allow for safe play and participation throughout the school day. Closed-toe footwear is required

Children who come dressed in costumes that do not align with these guidelines may be asked to change into their school uniform (parents may be contacted if there is no change of clothes available).

We strongly encourage creative, home-made costumes that reflect beloved characters from books and stories If you are unsure whether a costume is appropriate, please speak with your child’s Home Group Teacher ahead of time

Thank you for your continued support in making Book Week a joyful, inclusive, and values-aligned event for all students. We look forward to seeing the wonderful ways our students bring books to life through their costumes and imaginations!
