PRIMARY NEWS PRIMARY NEWS

A MESSAGE FROM MR CHRIS DROWLEY

The weather has certainly started to cool down, and this is timely with the change now to the full winter uniform Thank you for your efforts in ensuring your child comes dressed in the correct uniform If you have any questions about this, do not hesitate to ask me or your child's teacher for further clarification.

Thank you for your ongoing support with our updated drop-off procedures. As a reminder, the gates open at 8:15am The car park tends to be busiest around 8:40am, so we encourage families to make use of the 8:15–8:40am window of time for drop-offs. Leaving home just a few minutes earlier can make a noticeable difference in avoiding congestion

and helping students arrive at school on time and ready for the day Primary School students who arrive late must be accompanied to the office by their parent or carer to be signed in. Remember too, that all students must be picked up by 3:30pm and no later than this We appreciate the efforts you consistently make to get your children to school and picked up on time.

I thank God for our community and the people in it. I have been reflecting on how powerful encouragement is for us all

Hebrews 10:24–25 says: "And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching."

Be encouraged, but also remember to encourage those around you, especially your children.

God bless you and your family,

HOME READING PROGRAM

At Northside Christian College, our Home Reading Program is designed to support students in becoming confident, fluent readers It aims to foster a love of reading, build fluency, broaden general knowledge through exposure to a variety of texts, and strengthen the partnership between home and school.

Home reading texts are levelled and assigned based on complexity, so students at all stages from beginning readers to fluent ones can access and enjoy them To build confidence and promote success, students are given books that are below their instructional reading level This level is determined by the classroom teacher using a range of assessments. Reading easier texts at home allows students to practise independently, develop fluency, and experience the joy of reading without added pressure.

If your child says their home reading book feels “too easy,” consider the following questions:

Are they reading without needing to stop and decode many words? Are they reading smoothly, with expression?

Can they retell the main events or key points of the text?

Are they able to answer questions about the text, both literal and inferential?

If you answered ‘Yes!’ to all of the above, you might like to speak with your child’s classroom teacher about trialling more challenging home reading texts to ensure they stay engaged and continue to grow as a reader

Thank you for partnering with the College as we support students in developing independence and confidence, so they may discover their calling in God’s Kingdom
