TERM 1, WEEK 9, 2025 | 28th MARCH 2025

Dear Parents and Carers,

This week we held an Epilepsy Awareness Day, with proceeds from purple wristband sales going towards Epilepsy Action Australia, an organisation that promotes awareness of Epilepsy, offers support and conducts research. Thank you to all our students and families who supported this cause!

I would like to bring to your attention the importance of speaking with your children about the child safety issue of strangers. A member of our community informed us that a nearby school had reported a stranger approaching their school fence, attempting to speak with a student. Thankfully nothing further occurred and an adult was nearby, so the stranger moved on It is a timely reminder however of the importance of having a conversation with your child about what to do if they are approached by a known or unknown adult in different settings and scenarios. This can be a way of providing a layer of protection against harm. It's important for parents to help their children understand the concept of stranger danger in a way that feels safe, not scary. Start by explaining that not all strangers are dangerous, but it's important to be cautious. Teach them to never go anywhere with someone they don’t know, even if the person seems friendly or says something that sounds convincing This can also be true for someone they do know, it is important that your child knows they have your permission before going anywhere with another adult.

Encourage your child to always check with you or another trusted adult (at school this can be a member of our staff) before going anywhere or accepting something from a stranger. Role-playing different situations can help them practice how to respond, like saying "no" and running to a safe place if they feel uncomfortable. Lastly, remind them that they can always reach out to you if they’re ever unsure or scared. Keeping the conversation open and regular will help them feel more confident and prepared.

This week, I have been reflecting on forgiveness. This links to our College theme of Connection, where we have been talking about the importance of maintaining healthy connections with others.

Colossians 3:13 says "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you."

Our students are often quick to forgive, but as adults we can sometimes find this more difficult I encourage you to make every effort to forgive those in your life who may have hurt you. This does not mean we put ourselves in a place to be hurt again. However, it means we can allow God to bring healing to our hearts and deal with things on our behalf. God is good and wants to carry our burdens, giving us rest. He cares about our hearts and our future

I pray for the students and families of our College and I give thanks for His goodness. It is a privilege to be able to be part of our wonderful community and there are many blessings in being together.

God bless you,

The Wellbeing Barometer survey is an invaluable tool for schools, providing critical insights into the mental health and wellbeing of young people. This annual survey identifies areas of concern, highlights resilience and adaptability in students, and emphasises the importance of preventative strategies to promote positive outcomes.

Participation in this survey is strongly encouraged, as it offers a comprehensive view of students' experiences, challenges, and achievements. By capturing a detailed understanding of young people's experiences, the survey supports a tailored approach to enhancing their mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. It helps to identify strengths and areas for improvement, as well as pinpoint opportunities for early intervention.

The survey is part of an ongoing longitudinal study, and we encourage you to take a few moments to complete the survey for each of your children. Responses remain anonymous and should be based on your observations over the last 12 months By working together, we can reduce the long-term impact of mental illness and make a meaningful difference to the lives of our young people for a brighter future.

We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.

If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help
