Tony’s Take
The violence I predicted several years ago post-game at LSU made an unwelcome visit during the South Carolina and Florida game weeks with two separate shooting incidents sometime during the games. Although there were no fatalities, a popular gathering area has been closed for the near future where the October shootings took place - known as Unity Field, at the northeast corner of Highland and South Stadium Drive.
In a move to head off more possible trouble, LSU authorities decided to bar any non-permitted vehicles to park on campus during the rest of the season. Since at least half the vehicles on campus park without permits in unrestricted areas, this move was not well thought out. First, the school wants thousands of people to learn new routes to free parking areas much farther from the actual campus. These areas may not present a safe haven for generations of folks used to parking around the fraternities and parade ground areas near University High. Second, the traffic snarl on the west side of the campus is already a hot mess and adding another 3-4,000 vehicles to these areas will require many folks to bring sleeping bags with them while they wait for post-game traffic to free up. Third, the areas are much farther than folks are used to walking and for us older fans, the inconvenience will be palipitable.
Since decision making under pressure at LSU is akin to watching the Biden team in action, we can only hope that if this the future of parking during the season, that the school issue free parking permits to those who have borne the ever increasing cost of professional amateur football at LSU, many of whom have attended games since the days of Paul Dietzel.
Unless this was the plan all along: wring out a few more million dollars from the working stiffs who bleed purple and gold but don’t wear the mantle of purple royalty nor have the resources to invest in gold. I mean charge everyone who wants to park within two miles of the stadium and continue to avoid shuttles from distant parking areas to the stadium. Believe it or not, dozens of schools have been doing this for years….decades. The shuttles, I mean.
If this sounds like a real bitch session, it is. When 100,000 plus people attend an event like LSU football, it is almost impossible to keep them safe by foisting them off on areas not under legal protection by LSU. I predict that road rage will create as many if not more problems than the “brain trust” thinks they’ve taken care of and then you can watch the demise of what society has brought to an activity once wholesome and fun. If this problem were new, I might be a little more understanding. But it’s been coming for years and the school has been lucky. Like nearly everything else LSU creates outside of the intelligent and financially solvent TAF, this is another false promise. But this time it could turn into a real cluster f….

AMARYLLIS CARE
Another popular plant shared by gardeners during the holiday season are amaryllis bulbs. If you haven’t noticed yet, dormant bulbs are starting to become available at garden centers, grocery stores, big box stores, and warehouse clubs. Many come in holiday packaging, making them easy gifts for your gardening-minded friends.
The plants that we are familiar with belong to the genus, Hippeastrum, yet we call them “amaryllis”. Hippeastrum species evolved in the tropical and subtropical regions of South America. True amaryllis or belladonna lilies belong to the genus, Amaryllis, and evolved in South Africa. Both genera, however, are placed in the same amaryllis family plant family, Amaryllidaceae. A lot of the amaryllis grown today are hybrids of different species from both groups.
For the United States market, amaryllis bulbs are forced into dormancy so that they can be easily shipped around to various markets across the country during the fall months. This forces a winterbloom rather than traditional spring bloom. Forced bulbs planted outside in the garden now will be very susceptible to cold damage. With proper care you can purchase or receive a dormant bulb now to enjoy the flowers inside and then plant it in the garden after the fear of frost in the spring.
Amaryllis bulbs purchased now should be planted into containers using well-draining potting soil. The top quarter of the bulb should sit above the soil surface in the container. Those wondering about container size for a bulb, the general recommendation is to have at least 1 inch clearance between bulb and edge of container. Sometimes amaryllis are sold already potted up, allowing the user to skip this step.
Once potted, look for a sunny location indoors and provide enough irrigation to keep the soil moist. Amaryllis plants need good sunlight to grow properly. To help encourage straight flowering stalks it is recommended to rotate the container a half turn every few days. Flower stalks typically emerge in December through early January from bulbs planted now. You may notice leaves emerging from the bulb after a while. When flowers have faded, remove the old flowering stalks with a pair of pruners without damaging the leaves. Those leaves are needed to produce energy that the bulb stores for the next flowering cycle. Water regularly as soon as you notice the soil becoming dry. Keep the plant inside in a sunny location, turning a half turn every few days, until fear of frost has passed in spring. Once April arrives, the fear of frost will be greatly diminished. At that time, you can start thinking about planting amaryllis outside in the garden. The ideal sunlight location for outdoor plantings is 5-6 hours of direct sunlight with shade or filtered afternoon light, but most can tolerate full sun. The soil must have decent drainage, or the bulb will be susceptible to rot. Transplant the potted bulb into the garden bed while maintaining the same soil level as it was in the container. Provide supplemental irrigation when the soil turns dry and let them acclimate to the new location. By year 2, the plants should be somewhat established, and they can be fertilized with a general-purpose fertilizer in March and again in June. Maintain a 2-3 inch layer or mulch and supplement water as the soil becomes dry during the summer months. Once outdoors, amaryllis will start to follow their natural lifecycle and bloom in the spring where they can be enjoyed for years to come!

Hope you are all well and had a thrilling Halloween! Are you preparing for the holidays yet? The days are just going by too fast! This year is almost over and it seems as though it just began. There have been so many changes in my life. This year has not been very kind to me, but I am walking through it with my head held high and lots of positive expectations for 2026. I consider myself Blessed. I am alive, My Achilles Tendon surgery and recovery (which took longer than expected) went well, there have been many challenges but I survived them all. I have a new job and coworkers that I Really like! This year has brought many changes and rolling with them has not always been easy but still, I have a lot to be Thankful for. Which leads me to this project.

With Thanksgiving so close I decided on a cute little pumpkin. This was a very simple piece to do. I painted the background Indian Turquoise shade the edges with Turquoise Blue and again with Deep Midnight Blue. Drew on the pumpkin, based it with Spiced Pumpkin, shaded with Burnt Orange and again with Espresso to deepen it. Highlighted the pumpkin with Tangerine. The stem is based Avocado shaded with Espresso and highlighted with Foliage Green. Added the stars, dots, and lettering with Bleached Sand. I am hanging this in my kitchen to remind myself about all the good things that I am Blessed with. I actually made a list of things starting with waking up each morning, a roof over my head, food on the table, clothes to wear, my daughter, granddaughter, and grandson who call me constantly to see where I am, my job, etc. My list goes on and on. I bet yours will also. With Thanksgiving so close, what are you thankful for?
Well, that’s my project for this time. What will your next project be? Mine.... I don’t know. But I know it will be fun!

Well, on a crisp Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide marched past the Tigers by a 20-9 margin, extending their home winning streak to 17 games. The Tide (8-1, 6-0 SEC) leaned heavily on their defense, allowing just 232 total yards and 13 first downs.
Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson completed 21 of 35 passes for 277 yards and a touchdown, while the Tide’s ground game managed just 56 rushing yards — underscoring their one-dimensional offence on display. On LSU’s side, quarterback Garrett Nussmeier found some early rhythm, completing 18 of 21 passes for 121 yards, but was pulled in the third quarter in favor of sophomore Michael Van Buren (5 of 11, 52 yards) in what turned into an increasingly rough night.
LSU’s visits into the red zone resulted in four trips—but only nine points. Penalties and stalled drives stood out as key problems. The Tigers were flagged 10 times, and despite some early punctuation in the form of a defensive stop, the game slipped away.
A pivotal moment came when Alabama exploited LSU’s breakdowns and capitalized with explosive plays: Simpson hit deep throws of 30 + yards four times in the first half — plays the Tigers had given up only five times all season prior.
For LSU (5-4, 2-4 SEC), this game was the third straight loss to Alabama and marked the debut of interim head coach Frank Wilson. Ultimately, the Tigers fell short in a contest where their offense failed to muster consistency and their defense couldn’t prevent timely big plays.
With conference play deepening, LSU has very winnable home games coming up against Arkansas followed by Western Kentucky and ending the regular season with a trip to Norman to take on the Oklahoma Sooners.
Coaching Search:
Following the mid-season dismissal of head coach Brian Kelly, the Tigers entered one of the most intense and scrutinized coaching searches in recent college-football memory. Kelly was relieved of his duties after a 5-3 start to the 2025 campaign underwhelmed the Tigers’ expectations despite his 34–14 record during his tenure.
In his place, associate head coach Frank Wilson was named interim for the remainder of the season. The decision sent immediate ripple effects through the program — from recruiting to transfer portal strategy — as LSU looks ahead to a post-Kelly era.
Program Priorities & Oversight
The search isn’t simply about finding a high-profile name. According to LSU’s interim athletic leadership, the goal is “to hire the best football coach there is … we have to be one of those 12-team playoff teams every year.” At the same time, state-level scrutiny has emerged: Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry publicly declared that the athletic director would not oversee the next hire, citing prior buy-out liabilities and underscoring fiscal accountability. Therefore, LSU went from an interim President, AD and head coach to what seemed within days to a full-time President and Athletic Director (if I do not completely agree with the quick AD hire)!
Top Names & Emerging Candidates:
Numerous candidates have surfaced in the early stages of the process:
Lane Kiffin (Ole Miss) is widely viewed as the leading target — an SEC offensive mind with headcoaching credentials.
Kenny Dillingham (Arizona State) my personal favorite has also emerged as a modern, rising figure, though he’s reportedly declined to leave his current post.
Other names include Jon Sumrall (Tulane), Eli Drinkwitz (Missouri), and Brent Key (Georgia Tech) among others being discussed.
Odds-makers place Joe Brady (though highly unlikely) and Lane Kiffin (this train wouldn’t arrive anytime soon with them heading to a playoff), with Nick Saban’s name popping up despite his repeated statements that he plans to remain retired but we all know he can say one thing and immediately do something else.
Strategic Stakes & Fan Expectations
LSU’s decision carries multiple vectors of importance: Immediate competitive urgency. With the Tigers still mired in a 2-4 SEC start, the new coach must stabilize the program and restore postseason visibility.
Recruiting and NIL implications. Top recruits and transfers are sensitive to leadership instability — the next hire must inspire confidence.
Long-term contract structure. Given past costly arrangements (Kelly’s contract reportedly ~$95 M), LSU stakeholders are demanding performance-based terms and accountability.
Cultural fit. LSU’s identity — rich with tradition and national championship aspirations — demands a coach

WHAT TO DO WITH YOUR HALLOWEEN PUMPKINS
Pumpkins and jack-o’-lanterns are great fall decorations. After Halloween, there are several options of what to do with your unwanted pumpkins. Consider these options before resorting to throwing them into the trash.
1. Feed livestock
Instead of throwing away pumpkins, consider feeding them to livestock. Live-stock such as cattle, chickens, and pigs will eat pumpkins. Only feed them pump-kins that are not painted or bleached and are not yet molded.
2. Feed wildlife
If you do not have livestock, old pumpkins can be disposed of in your yard or woods to feed wildlife such as birds, deer, and squirrels. Only feed them pumpkins that are not painted or bleached and are not yet molded. Cutting pumpkins into smaller pieces is ideal for eating as food sources in chilly weather become scarce.
3. Composting
Pumpkins are great to put into your compost piles. For faster composting, break or cut the pumpkins into smaller pieces. Do not compost pumpkins with paint, stickers, or other decorations.
*Do not forget to turn your compost pile this month! *

After collecting pumpkin seeds, lay them on a paper towel to dry out. Make sure they are completely dry to prevent mold while storing. Put seeds in a plastic bag, remember to label them if you have different varieties, and store them in a cool place such as the refrigerator. Once the frost has passed the following year, you can plant the seeds to grow new pump-kins for fall. November is National Peanut Butter Lovers Month, and when it comes to this delicious treat, pups just can’t get enough of it. Peanut butter isn’t just a tasty snack for our furry friends; it’s packed with protein and healthy fats that dogs need. That sticky texture and irresistible nutty aroma make snack time truly enriching for our pups, which is why it’s perfect for training or using within puzzle toys. To celebrate Peanut Butter Lovers Month, here are two easy peanut butter recipes that you can make at home for your dog. These treats are sure to have tails wagging, paws dancing, and mouths watering with pure joy!
Recipe #1: Unleash Your Nutty Heart
1/2 cup peanut butter (xylitol-free)
3 Whole bananas
1 1/4 cup almond flour
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F. Add the flour, bananas, and peanut butter to a food processor and blend until a sticky dough forms. Remove the mixture from the food processor and roll it out on a lightly floured surface using a rolling pin. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to form your treats and place them on a prepared baking sheet. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, until the treats are slightly puffed, dry, and golden brown on the bottoms, but still a little soft when first removed from the oven. Let the treats cool completely before giving one to your pup.
Recipe #2: Plaquemines’ PB Delights
1/2 cup peanut butter (xylitol-free)
1/3 cup pumpkin puree
1 egg
1 1/4 cup almond flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
1 teaspoon non-fat plain yogurt
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F and lining a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the peanut butter, pumpkin puree, and eggs, stirring until well mixed. You can also use a hand-held electric mixer if you prefer. Next, add the almond flour, cinnamon, and turmeric, and stir again until the mixture comes together into a dough. Don’t forget to let your pup taste test the dough. Once approved, scoop a heaping teaspoon of dough into your palms and gently shape it into a disc-shaped cookie. Place each cookie on the baking sheet and continue until you have 20 cookies. Bake for 20 minutes or until the treats are set and golden brown around the edges. After the cookies have cooled, brush them with non-fat plain yogurt and let the glaze set in the refrigerator before serving.
While your pup enjoys these homemade treats, remember that not all pets are so fortunate to have full bowls or delicious, nutty treats like these. The Louisiana SPCA’s Pet Pantry is running low, and your support can make a big difference for animals in need. Visit www.louisianaspca. org/food-pantry to see which items are most needed and help give furry friends in need a reason to wag their tails.
