Apartments gain approval at Fantasia site By Bailey Wright The Citizen

Almost 90 new apartments are planned for the current site of the Fantasia banquet hall after all currently booked events are finished in 2020. On Monday, the Planning and Zoning Commission approved the plan after a public hearing. The special permit application was made by Fantasia owner Reno Russo. Under the proposal, the banquet and wedding hall at 404 Washington Ave. (Route 5) would be demolished after all currently booked events are finished around 2020, according to Silvana DeRosa, Russo’s daughter.

The Fantasia plan was presented by attorney Bernard Pellegrino, project engineer Matthew Niski and architect Robert Mangino.

Project engineers shrunk the size of the two proposed apartment buildings, which reduced the number of units by nine, to a total of 88. Designers used the additional space to add parking and create more of a buffer between the buildings and adjacent properties.

The site plan was approved with conditions that town staff work with the project engineers to establish which existing trees should be saved for a buffer zone between the rear of the “The parking spaces are Fantasia site and residential quite adequate now, it's a dramatic improvement areas. from the first application, The commission also speci- and that's appreciated,” fied that a high quality said PZC member Ronald wooden privacy fence Penton. should be used instead of the proposed vinyl fencing.
