Year in Review: Football takes center stage By Ken Liebeskind

The North Haven Citizen

In the eyes of many, the highlight of 2015 for the town was the North Haven High School football team’s appearance in its first state championship game. The Indians’ 42-35 loss to New Canaan on Dec. 12 concluded their best season ever, which

started with a perfect 10-0 regular season and two wins in the Class L playoffs. Senior captain Michael Montano, who electrified crowds all season with his long touchdown runs, ran for three scores against New Canaan and passed for another. Among the many seniors who starred for the team this season was Sabrina Fronte,

who set a state record for a female athlete by scoring 12 points in a single game with two field goals and six extra points against Lyman Hall. “Besides being a female, she’s a competitor, equal to anyone on the team,” NHHS coach Anthony Sagnella said. North Haven football fans See Review / Page 7

Students of the Leadership Council Committee at Montowese Elementary School recently conducted their annual Pajama and Book Drive. The committee collected 115 pajamas and 258 books and were presented to Geraldine Woods, Connecticut Chapter Co-President of the Pajama Program.

Mary Jane Mulligan, North Haven’s first female fire commissioner, who was elected in November, was appointed to her position at a special committee meeting Dec. 22 at the Montowese fire station. First Selectman Mike Freda introduced Mulligan and called for a vote from commission members to appoint her after calling for commission votes to reappoint Pasquale Nuzzolillo as chairman and Michael Zuccarelli as vice chair. “This is a wonderful fire commission and it is an honor to have Mary Jane as the first female commissioner,” Freda said. Nuzzolillo said, “Mary Jane’s name was submitted by former chief Vincent Landisio and the public voted to bring her on board. This is a See Commission / Page 2
