our people: a legacy of future

05 june 2023

There are memories that we must treasure and cherish.

This edition of Nors Magazine has a special meaning, since we are celebrating our 90th anniversary! Therefore, and because we believe it will be an issue that we will all keep with great fondness, we want all our people to have a physical version of this "treasure chest of memories". And if sustainability is at the top of our priorities (as Nors Magazine is produced on 100% recycled paper), transmitting culture, sharing stories and achievements we have accomplished together is also one of our main goals with the publication of this magazine.

We want this piece of communication to truly reach everyone: those who work daily on the computer, who can already browse through the digital version we have published, but also those whose work is done offline, in Nors workshops and warehouses around the world. We want the same information, the same sense of mission and the same legacy of future to reach everyone.

This path is only possible with the contribution of those who are part of Nors Group. Therefore, on the cover of this 5th edition, you will find some of the many faces that, on a daily basis, contribute to the success of this path. To all our people, dispersed throughout the four corners of the world, a big thank you for being part of this history.

a legacy of future: the heritage of 90 years of history

"A legacy of future" - this was the motto under which we began 2023, the year that marks the 90th anniversary of Nors Group.

Since early in the year, this expression has been materialised throughout 2023 in several moments that have marked Nors' activity. From the Kick-offs that dictate the rhythm of the new year and bring us a burst of motivation to start another financial year, to the Tributes to our longest-serving employees, the idea of uniting heritage with the ambition for the future has been present in our operation throughout the various months of work that we have already carried out together.

Therefore, in this 5th edition of Nors Magazine, it seemed unavoidable to us to focus the articles, interviews and news on what is one of the most relevant milestones of this year, celebrating our history and sharing the many (great) stories that enrich our journey as an organization.

We want to celebrate, in these pages of sharing and culture, 90 years of great humanism, optimism, steadiness and ambition.

Naturally, we have opened some of the articles in this edition to the participation of our people, from all over the world, who have shared with us their thoughts, memories and recollections that reflect the involvement, the spirit of mission and the experience with which we have built these nine decades.

Once again, it is with great pleasure that I share with you this special edition of our Nors Magazine, which is made of the legacy that honours us so much, but also of a constant ambition to challenge the future.

A legacy of stories, experience and devotion

In celebration of Nors Group's 90 years of history, this edition of "Back to the Future" highlights two esteemed employees who have become an integral part of Nors. Cherished by their colleagues and with many stories to tell over their long-standing relationship with the Group, they are great examples of dedication and commitment.

Isabel Ventura, currently an Administrative at Auto Sueco Automóveis in Gaia, is on the verge of retiring after an impressive 41 years of service with the Group. João Batista de Souza, a Business Consultant at Auto Sueco São Paulo, skillfully combines customer expectations and satisfaction with team efficiency and results on a daily basis. Despite the geographical distance, they share not only their age and experience but also an unwavering love for their grandchildren.

Through this article, they graciously share glimpses of their inspiring journey throughout the years.

In your perspective, what is the mission of Nors Group?

Isabel Ventura (IV): Nors Group endeavors to provide its clients and business partners with excellent service across its diverse range of activities. To embody the essence of "Being Nors" means representing the Group in the best possible manner, both through the quality of service we provide and the empathetic connections we establish with our clients. Personally, I have fostered warm relationships with many of our clients!

João Batista de Souza (JS): The mission of the Nors Group is to work towards customer satisfaction, with hard work on a daily basis, employee awareness and constant training, so that we can carry out our tasks with excellence.

Could you share how you became a collaborator at Nors Group and how long you have been part of the team?

IV: I joined Auto Sueco on my birthday in 1982, which was truly the most precious gift I could have received.

JS: I became a collaborator at Nors Group through a recommendation from a former colleague. Having worked together on other brands, he recognized my profile and extended an invitation for an interview. Since that day, I have remained an employee of Auto Sueco São Paulo, dedicated to the Group for the past 12 years.

What drew you to work in this industry and, more specifically, at Auto Sueco?

IV: Ever since I relocated to Gaia, I harbored a strong desire to work at Auto Sueco, and I made it a priority to reside in close proximity to the company. My colleagues would often tease me, joking that one day I might even end up living in the sports pavilion (now the Auto Sueco Museum)!

back
to the future

JS: I have always been involved in the technical field of heavy vehicles, and the Volvo brand has consistently captivated my interest, particularly Auto Sueco São Paulo. The sector in which I operate offers continuous opportunities for growth and learning, be it through technical training or developing skills in customer service and interpersonal relationships, driven by empathy.

How would you describe your journey with us?

IV: Throughout my career, I have had the opportunity to work in various areas, primarily based at the Gaia site. I initially started at the Training Centre, which was known as the Service School at that time. In this role, I managed all administrative and logistical aspects related to professional training for trainees. Professionally, it was the most fulfilling period of my life. Not only is working in training highly appealing, but the closeknit nature of our small team made it feel like a family. Since I have been with the company for a long time, I have had the pleasure of working alongside several colleagues, and the spirit of teamwork has always been present.

João Batista de Souza

JS: It has been a remarkable journey filled with continuous learning, training, unwavering dedication, and resilience. Each day presents an opportunity to acquire new knowledge and embrace diverse experiences. I am immensely grateful to be a part of Auto Sueco São Paulo, working alongside a team of experienced, skilled, and knowledgeable professionals. It is a collective that possesses a well-established structure and a forward-looking vision, enabling us to successfully accomplish our objectives while delivering exceptional service to our valued customers.

How do you believe you have made a positive impact on the team and the company throughout these years?

IV: Throughout my 41 years at Auto Sueco, my primary goal has always been to contribute to the company's prosperity through my dedicated work. By each of us fulfilling our responsibilities and adding value, we create a better world, be it in professional, environmental, or personal aspects.

JS: In addition to my experience in working with heavy vehicles, our team consistently surpasses our monthly goals. We continuously strive to identify the objectives that will benefit both our customers and the company's profitability. Moreover, we prioritize mutual respect and foster a healthy team working environment.

What has been the most significant challenge you have encountered since joining the Nors Group?

IV: I have faced various challenges, but I have always approached them with determination and a commitment to giving my best. The desire to prove my capabilities has driven me to embrace every challenge placed before me. This has sometimes involved adapting to new areas, adjusting to different work environments and facilities, and altering familiar routines.

However, my motto has always been to persevere and never give up. My parents instilled in me the courage and strength to confront obstacles, no matter how difficult they may be (though I must admit, I did not overcome my fear when it came to obtaining my driver's license).

JS: In the role of a Technical Consultant, we encounter challenges on a regular basis, as each customer is unique and presents different emotions that we must constantly navigate. For instance, customers often express concerns when their trucks are unavailable, as it directly affects their ability to work. It is crucial for us to effectively manage these situations with sensitivity and understanding.

I feel immense gratitude for the privilege of being a part of a team comprised of highly experienced, skilled, and exceptionally knowledgeable professionals.
João Batista de Souza
I have consistently strived to give my utmost and the determination to prove my worth has driven me to embrace every challenge that has come my way.

13

In a word, how would you describe your day-to-day life?

IV: My day-to-day life is incredibly busy! Aside from handling the inherent parts service, I also assist customers at the counter for workshop service payments, and I oversee all the administrative tasks for Automóveis em Gaia. There never seems to be enough time to accomplish everything!

JS: My day to day is full of hard work and sometimes very stressful, because the work that the consultant does has to be perfect, always thinking of the client's satisfaction.

Nors Group celebrates its 90th anniversary this year under the motto "legacy of future". What does a legacy for the future mean to you?

IV: Contributing so that Nors continues to grow, thus honouring our departed bosses who have contributed a lot to the well-being of many families, by providing them with work and training to better perform their duties. People are the soul of companies and satisfied employees work harder.

a day in the life of...

Jaime Correia: hard work and dedication out in the open

Jaime Correia joined the Group seven years ago as a Mechanic, and he has since risen to the role of Team Coordinator at Auto Maquinaria. A significant portion of his work is carried out at the Catoca Mines in Angola, which is renowned as the fourth largest open-cast mine globally, responsible for extracting over 75% of Angolan diamonds.

With unwavering dedication, Jaime expresses his utmost satisfaction and fulfillment, stating, "My career is flourishing, and I feel that I have achieved everything I desired. I am fortunate to be doing what I love, and I never feel exhausted, whether arriving at or departing from work. I approach every task with wholehearted dedication."

As for challenges, this enthusiastic employee acknowledges the existence of difficulties but remains resolute in refusingl to shy away from adversity.

Team Coordinator, Auto Maquinaria Jaime Correia

He explains, "Every aspect of our daily lives presents its demands. My approach is to seek simple solutions to the problems that arise." It is his humility, which defines him so well, that contributes to his success and perseverance. He emphasizes, "Above all, every day is an opportunity. I strive to make a positive impact each day and face everything as an opportunity for learning." In fact, this thirst for knowledge is an enduring characteristic of Jaime's life, a proud São Toméan. His personal motto is "learn more every day," and he indulges in hobbies that involve researching subjects that captivate his interest. He shares, "This sector is my true passion, and every aspect of it brings me joy and fulfillment." He further reveals that his favorite task involves diagnosing issues and gaining in-depth knowledge of the equipment he works with, closely monitoring its performance.

What is a typical day like for you?

In essence, my day revolves around collaborating with colleagues, creating work plans, and efficiently assigning tasks based on the number of technicians available. My primary objective is to maximize productivity for our clients by the end of the day.

What are the main responsibilities you handle on a daily basis?

While not everything that shines is gold - or in this case, diamonds - Jaime recognizes that working in the field, particularly in the mines, presents genuine challenges. He candidly admits, "The primary difficulty lies in dealing with daily dangers and exercising extreme caution around large machinery." Nevertheless, this employee is not easily intimidated, and his passion for his work fuels him daily.

At 43 years old, the central figure of this article confides that his childhood dream was to work in a car factory, which led him to graduate in Machinery and Engines. Regarding the future, his greatest desire is to continue feeling content in this sector and be recognized for his exceptional work and the service he provides. He expresses, "I aspire to remain an integral part of the Nors Group, further advancing in the technical and professional realms, and earning recognition for the services I deliver. Being a part of Nors means being part of a group that makes a genuine difference. I am committed to continuing to give my best for the company."

My tasks encompass a wide range of activities. I engage in fieldwork, supervise workshop operations, address customer inquiries, and provide necessary updates to management regarding ongoing projects. Building strong relationships with customers is crucial, as it allows for effective communication, ensures the team operates smoothly, and delivers high-quality service.

Could you provide some insight into what it's like working in the mines?

Working in the mines entails assuming complete responsibility for our actions. Maintaining positive rapport with the customer is consistently challenging, as we must address day-to-day issues and strive to portray the company in the best possible light. I am dedicated to going the extra mile to uphold a favorable company image to the outside world.

Every day is an opportunity for learning. I strive to make a positive impact on a daily basis.

Straight from Ontario, a remarkable and enduring partnership to share

The success of the Group's 90-year journey owes much to the trust and support of our valued clients. In this special edition of "We Deliver," we travel to Canada to highlight one of Strongco's long-standing clients, AVERTEX, and the exceptional relationship and bond of trust and partnership that exists between our organizations.

Established two decades ago, AVERTEX Utility Solutions Inc. is a versatile underground works company specializing in the installation of public and private service networks within the energy and telecommunications sectors. With its headquarters located in Ontario and a dedicated workforce of approximately 180 employees, AVERTEX also extends its operations to other utility sectors including water, sewer, rail, and renewable energy.

President of AVERTEX Jason Kottelenberg
we deliver 18 we are ambitious

AVERTEX has been a trusted partner of Strongco since its foundation in 2003. However, the roots of this collaboration can be traced back even further, spanning over a decade with the company's founders. Throughout these productive years, AVERTEX has acquired more than 140 pieces of equipment, with 86 currently in active operation. Yet, More than numbers, let's get to know the opinion of Jason Kottelenberg, President of AVERTEX.

Married to Melanie and a proud father of five children, Jason has dedicated his entire career to the utility construction industry. Starting as a laborer over two decades ago, he progressed through various roles, including Contracts Manager, Sales Director, and Vice President, before assuming his current position as President. During our conversation, Jason shared insights into AVERTEX's operations and the invaluable partnership they share with Strongco - a relationship he describes as "solid and long-standing." He expressed his hope that this partnership will continue to thrive in the years to come.

How would you describe your career at AVERTEX?

It has been a fun, challenging and enjoyable career in which I’ve sought to help AVERTEX succeed long term. It has included a number of different roles which has provided many different valuable perspectives. Been full of challenges and lots of great memories, and many great friendships.

We have a long-standing and solid partnership with Strongco, which we hope will remain strong in the years to come.
19

What was the greatest challenge you faced in this company? And the greatest achievement?

Depending on which perspective you look at it, the answer could be different. But overall, I’d say the greatest would likely have had to be various challenges of 2020/2021 due to the unmentionable “C” word. Thankfully we have been very blessed over the years and couple that with having a very strong and experienced team, things have been good.

The greatest achievement would have to be the organization itself. The diversity of work that we have been able to add over the years and the strong position operationally that we have in the utility construction industry culminates in us being trusted which is key, and a testament to every one of our team members.

What is the great purpose of AVERTEX?

To be a safe, enjoyable and a desirable place to work so that we can support our loved ones and the communities that we live in. We seek to do that by being the most trusted and capable company in the utility construction industry.

20 we are ambitious

Why did your company choose Strongco? When and how did it happen?

Many of AVERTEX’s employees had worked with Case equipment, specifically the 580 backhoe line, for years; this was the original connection. But through the years Strongco has proven to be a valuable partner which keeps us wanting to work with them.

Do you feel that Strongco has contributed towards your mission “To be the most trusted and capable company in the utility construction industry "? In what way?

Strongco has certainly supported us in our mission. Not just in the fact that they carry a very strong and reputable manufacture of utility construction equipment but also in supporting us regardless of who and how. Strongco has assisted us with finding equipment to support our projects across Canada and has also been there to get us the right equipment even if its not their first choice. Over the years with new model updates there are sometimes kinks to work out and they have always been there to support getting these worked out. Also, as the company grew and diversified its work they were there with the necessary equipment to support our expansion. Working with great vendors like Strongco and great equipment like Case, helps keep things moving on the jobsite. All of these things help us to be capable and trusted.

What factors differentiate Strongco as a partner? How do you see the future of this partnership?

Being able to work with the same folks over the years with a couple of new faces here and there helps to keep things working smoothly. Not only from a sales end but also the shop and parts side. Transparency has also been appreciated, especially during challenging supply chain times. Moving forward we hope to continue to grow the relationship on a personal level and build our understanding of each other’s organizations so that we can support each other. There is always opportunities to learn and then apply it forward.

This year Group Nors - to which Strongco is a part of - celebrates its 90th anniversary. How do you feel regarding this milestone and in which way does it contribute to enhance a trustworthy relationship?

First off, congratulations! That is no small feat and speaks to an underlying understanding of what your team members, business and your client’s needs are. It also shows commitment to the long term which for AVERTEX, as an organization that is in it for what we hope is generations to come, builds confidence that we will have a partner to work with for years to come.

Working with great suppliers, such as Strongco, and great equipment, such as Case, helps to maintain the flow in the workplace.
[90 years] is no small achievement and demonstrates an underlying understanding of the needs of team members, the business and customers.

leadership stories

Paulo Jervell: the respect for the Group's mission and the passion for cars

Given the experience and structural presence in the Group, it is not surprising that Paulo Jervell is inseparable from Nors DNA, embodying its character and values. When we talk about building a legacy for the future, it is inevitable to embark on this journey through Nors' heritage with this enthusiast and collector of vintage cars.

Born in Porto in 1946, he studied at Almeida Garrett College, did a commercial course in Norway, and graduated in Management at Cambridge University in England. In the 1960s, his career with the Group began in the Parts area, where he recalls a very positive experience marked by people. Then, he went to work in the Workshop where, together with Mr. Ramos, he was responsible for timing the services, having then moved to the Automobile section, where he stayed for several years.

In 1971, together with his brother, Tomaz Jervell, he became a partner in Auto Sueco and later took on the role of Manager (Administrator). Currently, Paulo Jervell is a Member of the Group's Board of Directors, and he told us some of the many stories he has experienced along the way.

What do you highlight from the early days of the Nors Group?

Times were different - a handshake was sacred. My father was very supportive of his clients. At that time, whoever bought a truck had to buy a transport license which cost almost as much or more than a truck. My father, the engineer Yngvar Poppe Jensen, and Mr. João Freitas sold the truck and the license, and the customer paid Auto Sueco in bills of exchange.

This welcomed many customers: the brand was good and, especially, the assistance after the sale, which was of enormous importance.

How do you see the evolution of the companies and the Group?

A culture was created that I believe should be continued. It is what has made us prosper and progress. That culture is based on common sense. Trucks break down. It can be the best truck in the world: if it breaks down and there are no parts to fix it, it doesn't work. An organisation must serve the customer and support them at every stage, regardless of sector or geography. Commitment and customer service are the foundations of our culture and our success.

we are transparent 40

Paulo Jervell

In your opinion, what are the main ingredients of the Group's success?

At the genesis of the Group's success (past, present and future) is the relationship of trust that is established with the clients, as well as commitment and competence. These values are also intrinsic to our DNA: competence, honesty and responsibility are very important. A company, whatever it does, whatever service it provides, must have a very constructive position at work, helping people. That is the basis of our success and of the Group's 90-year history.

"When I was 13, I built a kart, drew it with all the measurements, and bought a 40 cm3 engine for 90 escudos*. There was a locksmith near my house who made the chassis for me. My brother Tomaz had a pedal car, and he gave me the front wheel, which I put on the kart. I had a board to sit on, the axle and wheels of the pedal car, and a rope. On one downhill, when I got down there, the wheels got all crooked because I couldn't go at that speed with that weight. I got home and asked my father if I could go to Volvo to get the kart fixed: I convinced him because he liked those thingsthat was my luck.

There was Mr. Aníbal Vieira, and Mr. Júlio, very competent mechanics. I asked Aníbal to tell my father it was dangerous and convinced him to buy some rubber wheels. And so it was: they made a new steering wheel, a chair with a back, they put a motor on it, and I used to ride that thing on Saturdays and Sundays, going under the trucks in the workshop. The guard would get upset - and rightly so - when I accelerated with my hand and steered sideways. I'd go crazy, too, if I saw it."

* According to INE, 90 escudos in 1959 was the equivalent of 44.83 euros.

we are transparent 42

Over these 90 years, what moment would you highlight, for the positive?

There have been many good moments. Some of the most memorable ones are associated with the geographical expansion of the Group, the beginning of operations in Coimbra, Lisbon and Braga, and then clearly in Angola, Brazil and so on.

Was there a not-so-good moment that marked you?

There were ups and downs in the business. Few trucks were sold at the beginning of the 80s because of the crisis. There was a storm before 1972 when a typhoon lifted the whole roof off the workshop during lunchtime. Fortunately, people weren't there then - only the trucks and a customer, who took cover under the car. If there had been people inside, it would have been a catastrophe.

At the root of our success are the relationships of trust that is established with our clients, commitment and competence.

And is there a peculiar story you would like to tell us?

My father and his partners were always cautious with assistance, and they had a parts section next to the company, a warehouse, of which Mr. Daciano Rodrigues was in charge. There was a workshop in Campanhã and then in Rua da Restauração in Porto, which serviced Volvo.

When they decided to build a more extensive workshop here, on the Via Rápida - which didn't even exist yet, it was a highway - the architect was asked to create a flat next to the building so that someone could be there 24 hours a day. It was Mr. Daciano, father of Amândio, José and Rosa, who lived there and were our collaborators. Mr. Daciano loved to go to Antas to watch football.

At that time, it wasn't the Dragão stadium yet. The stadium loudspeakers often called Mr. Daciano to go to Volvo because there were people there who needed parts. This was enormous free publicity! And it didn't happen once or twice... He'd stop watching the game at the stadium to go to the warehouse to deliver parts.

we are transparent 44

How do you see the next ten years up to 2033, when we will celebrate 100 years?

I insist on competencies and common sense. Those who are competent also have good sense. We are in a not great time in the World, but I see this with optimism, we cannot go backward; we have to go forward.

Childhood dream: My dream was vintage cars. When I was 17, I bought a Ford A; I didn't even have a license.

An unforgettable day: When me and my brother Tomaz met Steve McQueen at the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Favourite book: I don't have one, I've read many that have marked me.

Musical style: Classical music.

Favourite food: Lamprey, tripe and codfish.

Dessert: Cheese.

Hobbies: Classic sports cars from the 50s and 60s.

Dream destination: Goodwood Festival in England. It is a car festival with two categories: revival and speed. The revival is fabulous. The circuit is not very big, but the outdoor car park is a museumeveryone drives vintage sports cars from the 30s and so on. I spent hours there.

Pet: Dog.

Life motto: Have friends and be healthy.

kick-offs and tributes

Kick-offs: together for a common goal

Like every year, in the first few months of 2023, the Group companies in all countries held their kick-off meetings, a unique moment of inspiration and anticipation of the year's activity and objectives. This year, the Corporate Centre Kick-Off was held for the first time.

Throughout these sessions, the Group's preliminary results and prospects for 2023 were shared, as well as the status of some ongoing projects, ensuring an ever-greater alignment of all the teams that comprise the Group.

Despite being geographically distant, all the Kick-offs were held with a single voice, consolidating the strategic alignment and unity in favour of a great common goal: the success of the Nors Group. The energy experienced was unique and represented a real boost of motivation, which we all felt as a team. After all, this is a joint journey.

Together we celebrate 90 years of Nors

All the 2023 Kick-off sessions began with a message from the Group CEO, who emphasised the milestone we are celebrating this year: 90 years of the Nors Group - "From a handshake, which symbolised the beginning of a relationship

that perhaps could never be foreseen as long, in 1933, was born the history that we take to the world today.

A journey made, naturally, of moments of great ambition, optimism and bravery but also of much wisdom, much pragmatism, and much thoughtfulness. I believe that only with the balance of these ingredients can longevity such as the one we celebrate today be achieved. 90 years of Nors".

This is, effectively, an unavoidable step in our path, made of the legacy we honour, but also of the ambition that feeds us every day: that of building a more and more promising future and the certainty that there are no limits to what, together, we can achieve. We all are, and we all make Nors.

Nors Tributes: we celebrate those who, every day, build our legacy

As of 2023, the Kick-off events will include seniority tributes to employees celebrating 20, 30, and 40 years "at home" in the Group. After a break from this celebration, we returned with all our energy in 2023 to commemorate and value the sense of commitment and dedication of the employees who have accompanied us for many years with the same enthusiasm as always.

In the year we celebrate a 90-year journey, it is even more special to pay tribute to our people who - we have no doubt - are the best!

Sotkon Equipment Renewal in Spain

A project developed in Dénia, a Spanish municipality in the province of Alicante, has led to the renewal of various Sotkon equipment.

This project is part of the renovation of the municipal collection system in Denia, where the company URBASER will provide the waste collection service for the next ten years. In March 2023, the Municipality of Denia and URBASER started two new selective waste collection services: door-to-door collection and organic waste collection in the municipality's underground containers.

Each resident now deposits organic waste with a card associated with their address. Then the waste is transformed into organic compost for later use as fertiliser or energy generator.

The identification of users through this system will allow a discount on the waste fee to be paid. This reward aims to increase recycling rates and involve the community in improving the environment.

Within this project's scope, almost 400 Sotkon underground containers were renewed, 375 deposit marks and lids, and 160 internal containers. In addition to these renovations, Distromel brand access controls were also installed.

a legacy of future

Nors legacy, seen by our people

Nors Magazine is a magazine by all, for all. This is our top premise: we want every edition to be collaborative, with the participation of everyone in the Nors universe. In this edition, which marks the Group's 90th anniversary (a milestone that means so much to us), it makes particular sense that it should be so. So we have prepared a special challenge: throughout the year, we have been talking about our legacy of future. But what does this legacy mean for our people? That's what we sought to find out!

António Romão de Souza Branch Manager Auto Sueco Centro Oeste
My journey at Auto Sueco Centro Oeste is proof that it is possible to grow and reach new heights in a company that values its employees and is committed to building a better future for all.
we are personal 72
António Romão de Souza

Throughout the last 16 years, I have witnessed the legacy that Nors is building for the future. The Group has a solid commitment to innovation, constantly investing in technology and new solutions to meet the needs of its customers efficiently and affordably. Furthermore, Nors has a serious commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, seeking to contribute in constructing a fairer and more inclusive society.

My journey at Auto Sueco Centro Oeste proves it is possible to grow and reach new heights in a company that values its employees and is committed to building a better future for all.

For me, "legacy of future" reflects the good examples, values, knowledge, and works left by those who've been here, so it can be continued by those who arrive.

When I first arrived here in 2004, Auto Sueco was growing incredibly. Everything that seemed big is now small, the space in the big Mulemba starts to run out, and the once smaller teams grow exponentially and work at full speed. This growth opened the door to the launch of the new Ícolo and Bengo workshops, unique installations, whose inauguration was a moment that significantly marked me because on that day, the "apple of the golden eye", the result of the commitment and work of great professionals, opened its doors to its clients and left a mark on the history of the Nors Group.

It is with immense pride and admiration that in my (still short) experience in the Group, I can witness and celebrate what the 90 years of existence have brought to Nors. A legacy that has always been faithful to its values, that has known how to grow with resilience and overcome the challenges that this longevity has faced and has always managed to overcome. Its sense of commitment, mission, and ambition have made it what it is today - a dedicated group recognised nationally and internationally. The future can only be auspicious! Humility and respect for the legacy, combined with innovation, ambition, people, and its spirit of mission, make us foresee that the path, always challenging, will be faced with confidence.

For me, a legacy of future means no discrimination. There is equality in dealing with other colleagues. May the team spirit remain the same so that future generations can be inspired in the growth of the Group.

I feel comfortable here - it is not by chance that I have been in Auto Sueco Angola for 30 years. My place is here, and I have done my job on my merit and that of my colleagues.

To be a part of an organization based on the principals of growth both personal and in a business sense while recognizing our past.

For me, it is the record of what we have done and what we leave for those who will follow us. I have worked at Auto Sueco Angola for over 24 years. The first years of business were challenging: the country was at war, we couldn't move safely within a 60 km radius of Luanda, and the economy had only recently opened to free private enterprise. Without mobility and a market, how could we trade? Thanks to Mr. Tomaz Jervell - of whom I have fond memories as a great teacher and good counsellor - and his team, who, with tenacity, determination, and hope for a better tomorrow for Angola, knew how to keep the company going in difficult times, and today Auto Sueco Angola is a company of national renown and certainly the most extensive dealer in heavy equipment.

I'll keep friends for life and stories to remember.

Virgínia Gonçalves

It was only "yesterday" that I joined this great Group. No matter how many years go by, I feel like it was yesterday. I'll keep friends for life and stories to remember. One in particular, in 2017, at the Pousada do Freixo, for the employees tribute. Next to me at dinner were Dr. Tomás Jervell and Mr. Tomaz Jervell, who, I have to confess, I didn't know was such a Portista.

Knowing that we shared this same passion while FC Porto was playing AS Monaco, Mr. Tomaz, without anyone noticing, was signalling me with his hand to give me the joy of knowing that our club was scoring and who the scorer was. I will always remember him fondly.

To me, legacy is some achievement of expressive proportions that will be reflected in the future. It will be remembered for a long time and, if possible, be replicated. I had the opportunity in 2019 to contribute to many improvements in the tax department, which I see as a legacy that I will leave in the Group.

Leite Faria: tribute

José Manuel Bessa Leite de Faria was born in Porto on the 11th of February 1942 and joined the Group in 1970. He was a member of the Management Board and of the General Board, have assumed the management of several areas during his career in the Group until becoming a Member of the Board of Directors. He was the father of José Jensen Leite Faria, Executive Director, and Chief Corporate Officer, and husband of Maria Sigrid Poppe Jensen Leite de Faria, daughter of Ingvar Poppe Jensen, one of the founders of the Nors Group.

With a rather discreet personality, José Leite de Faria has always been very assertive in his analyses and decisions. Renowned for his straightforwardness, Leite Faria had a very particular sense of humour and unique insight.

His posture could sometimes be confused with a certain hardness. However, those who worked with him emphasize that this was only a first impression, showing him to be a person with enormous values and kindness. Ana Maria Couto was in the Group from 1973 to 2019. She was one of the people who worked closely with Leite Faria for several years. She tells us that "on the first contact, he was a person who imposed respect and a certain distance due to his serious and not very talkative temperament". However, after some time together, she soon realised that her initial impression was wrong, "he was someone human, good-humoured, sensitive, dedicated, understanding, counsellor, friend and hated lies".

On the other hand, Joaquim Santiago, Real Estate Assets Manager, met Leite Faria in 2003 and remembers that his first impression was not the best - "the serious and rigid posture that he seemed to have transmitted an image of a certain hardness.

Later, I realised it was his temperament, a defensive way of relating. I learned to respect his frankness, ability to see the core of the situation and humanity".

In fact, his generosity, solidarity, and humanism earned him great recognition from all those who worked with him. Vitor Sousa, Mechanic at Auto Sueco Portugal, underlines these characteristics of Leite Faria, of whom he keeps unforgettable memories - "To speak of Mr. Leite Faria is to talk of an extraordinary being. Before joining the Nors Group in 1982, my father (known as Travassos) talked to me a lot, and with great affection, of this great gentleman. More than his boss, he was a true friend, a remarkable man, and an owner of a kindness and professionalism worthy of appreciation. A person of few words, he did not neglect those he worked with - he always treated everyone with enormous respect and was respected by all. He was an incredible human being and a true leader."

Chief Operating Officer of the Group, recognised his numerous professional qualities - "I had the great privilege of working with Mr. Leite Faria for over 40 years. In remembering him, I cannot fail to mention the main qualities I recognised in him: a critical sense in assessing situations, straightforwardness in expressing his points of view, and an extraordinary intuition for business, all combined with a consistently very positive outlook in which, recognising and valuing the company's legacy, he showed great confidence in the Group's future".

He had a good heart and was a good travelling companion - we did many trips together.Professionally, always very interested in all the matters and acted well and quickly.

For the COO, Leite Faria was also a reference in the improvement process of the Group's facilities, namely in what concerns the after-sales area"He was a great driving force behind the improvement of that park. That investment allowed the Group to reinforce its position as the after-sales standard and sustained our growth in the following decades". His strategic vision of the business and the direction of the Group were remarkable, not only in the national expansion (in territory and business) but also in the internationalisation process, as Jorge Guimarães states - "when, at the beginning of the 90s, the Group decided to begin its internationalisation with the kick-off of the company in Angola, Mr. Leite Faria followed this initiative with great enthusiasm, which was repeated in the following investments in Africa, Brazil, Canada, etc.".

Although Mr. Leite Faria is not a man of vanities, I believe that, wherever he is, he certainly is proud of the path taken.

Joaquim Santiago Real Estate Assets Manager

Vitor Sousa also recognises that Leite Faria was a born leader - "Resilience, dedication, motivation, and respect are qualities that define him very well, and, if the success of a company is the result of excellent teamwork, then for everyone to be in harmony there needs to be a competent leader, a true partner and a dedicated one. Who else, if not Mr. Leite Faria?".

Leite Faria has always been a present, creative, and daring voice in the day-to-day running of our organisation, contributing to the quality of the debate.

Tomás Jervell Executive Board Member and Group CEO

My father knew how to honour and build upon the work and values of the founders of this company. A person who always said what he thought directly, with an enormous consideration for the "shop floor". He always tried to balance all areas of the company, making decisions that best defended the Group's and the family's interests with a view to continued growth. It is with great endearment that I have heard stories involving my father that clearly demonstrate the importance and the mark he left on the people he worked with. I hope that this collective memory serves as an example to everyone.

I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for the messages sent, and I ask that we continue the work started in 1933. It is the best way to remember my father. On behalf of myself and my family, thank you.

Ana Maria Couto highlights his client orientation and the care he dedicated to client satisfaction - "As Head of the Workshop, he cared for the clients with concern and attention, listening to them. He sought the best relationship between workshop or factory guarantees and cost for the customer, which is why Auto Sueco was well respected in the market, despite the difficult times back then.

people mark our professional life in such a strong way that it is impossible to forget them. Therefore, I will keep forever in my memory all the moments spent in his company". Ana Maria Couto also states - "Although he has physically disappeared, I keep him alive with the characteristics that I have always recognised in him as a boss, friend, and advisor of so many years".

as possible from the example I learnt, but above all the lucid way in which he analysed the issues under discussion, the objective and straightforward way in which he expressed his position and the optimism with which he always faced the future".

Despite the inevitable ephemerality of human life, an undeniable certainty is that Leite Faria will remain in the memory of those who lived with him, as Vitor Sousa confessed - "Some

In his turn, Jorge Guimarães will seek in his professional future to maintain the example and continue to apply in the Group what he learnt from Leite Faria - "I try to keep as many lessons

We will remember, with emotion, all those who marked Nors' path with charisma, a sense of mission, and tenacity - and José Leite Faria is, and always will be, an example of this same premise.

Robson Ferrari: a passion in his own name

Hard-working and ambitious, Robson Ferrari is a mechanic at Agro New, where he contributes to the success of the business. An early riser, he is frequently the first to arrive, as he likes to have some alone time to concentrate and prepare for the day's workflow. In this edition, we get to know this employee who is passionate about vintage cars.

Born in Nova Odessa, in São Paulo, the circumstances of life made him mature early and work as a Mechanic when he was only nine years old. Today, at 38 and with a 7-year-old daughter, he lives in Votuporanga, where he intends to build a promising and prosperous career.

This ambition is, in fact, evident throughout our conversation. When we asked him what most motivates him in his job, Robson quickly replied that he is passionate about his profession and likes great challenges - "it feeds my personal and professional ego. I try, day after day, to grow professionally, and I aim to occupy a higher position" - so it is not surprising that his greatest ambition in life is to grow personally and professionally.

we are personal 84

His pragmatism is undeniable, and the search for efficiency runs in his blood. If he had a superpower, "he would choose to predict the future so as not to make mistakes," in his words, we should learn from the past to prosper in the future. This constant search for success and his daily commitment means that the word that best describes him is "commitment" - "I try to help all colleagues, whatever the problem is until we find the solution together".

In his spare time, Robson enjoys collecting whisky and spirits, and his childhood dream was to own a sports car, living up to his surname (Ferrari)!

He considers himself transparent and friendly - "I may not show it, but I'm sentimental". This personality trait means that if he was granted a wish, he would choose to have his father by his side - "I lost my father when I was 14. I wish he was alive to give me advice when I need to make difficult decisions".

Finally, there was still time for Robson to tell us an amusing story about his journey at Agro New: "When I started working here, I wasn't used to walking in the countryside, and I often got lost because I didn't know the way back to town. This mainly happened at night, when I would follow the glare of the city lights and end up in an even more distant location".

I try to grow professionaly, day after day, and I aim to occupy a higher position.
We should learn from the past to prosper in the future.

Artificial Intelligence in our daily life

Source: Online publication, "The Morning" newsletter, The New York Times, by German Lopez, April 2023

For most people, ChatGPT is more of a toy than a tool. We can ask nonsensical questions, but it's not robust enough to write high-quality work memos or school essays.

However, the people behind the artificial intelligence programs believe that one day, these systems will become a commonplace, recurring part of our lives, supporting us in everyday routines.

How? Some artificial intelligence will initiate this reality, not because it is perfect or features human-level intelligence - simply because it will perform a task better than people can currently do. It might be a task that seems small yet takes time, like writing a reply to an email or organising a diary.

Or it could be something bigger, like driving a car. Either way, the change will be enough for the public to adopt it widely. Mobile phone cameras are a helpful analogy. They typically take lower-quality pictures than standalone cameras. But most people have adopted them because they are convenient and included in devices that most of us carry everywhere. Moreover, widespread adoption will help A.I. improve rapidly.

Being data-driven technology, the more people use A.I., and the more data developers can collect to adapt their programs.

There is a succinct way to describe the progress of technology: it has to be better, not perfect.

Current technology is imperfect. It can make mistakes and struggles with more complicated tasks or programmes. But the same applies to human programmers. "Humans are not perfect at many tasks they perform," said Helen Toner, director of Georgetown University's Center for Security and Emerging Technologies. According to this standard, programming robots don't have to be perfect to replace existing work. They just have to save time. A human programmer could then use that extra time to improve A.I. work, think of other ideas for programs, or do something else entirely.

Artificial Intelligence in the agricultural market: a sector worth $4.9 billion by 2028

Source: Online publication, Yahoo Finance, "Markets & Research", April 2023

The global Artificial Intelligence market size in the agricultural sector is expected to reach USD 4.9 billion by 2028.

In this scenario, farmers can benefit from real-time forecasts about their fields and monitor plant health, soil quality, temperature, irrigation automation, and pesticide application processes - factors that increase the overall quality and crop accuracy. Precision farming, drone analytics, agricultural robots, livestock monitoring, and labour management are just some of the applications of artificial intelligence in agriculture to maximise the efficiency of agricultural production. Adopting deep learning technology is already increasing crop productivity, fuelling the expansion of this market.

Agricultural companies have been adopting artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for solutions based on predictive analytics. Thus, AIbased tools and methods help in pest management, healthier crop production, soil monitoring, and agriculture-related work across the supply chain.

The rapid expansion of the world's population drives the need to bet on AI in the agricultural sector. Furthermore, the demand for a green revolution driven by artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things (IoT), and big data is driven by the scarcity of arable land and the need for increased food production for food security.

However, due to a need for more awareness of cutting-edge technologies, there is a gap between understanding and applying precision farming principles. Despite governments and market partners worldwide undertaking projects to provide farmers with training and consultancy services on precision farming techniques, a significant percentage of farmers remain inaccessible. To date, farmers in developing countries lack technological skills, which poses a substantial challenge to market players.

Volvo Group accelerates sustainable mobility with innovation centres on three continents

Source: Press-release AB Volvo, March 2023

CampX is a global concept designed by the Volvo Group to accelerate technological and business innovations for sustainable mobility through partnerships with start-ups and earlystage start-ups. The Volvo Group now has four innovation centres located on three continents - in France, Sweden, India, and the USA - as it recently announced the opening of the new CampX Lyon in France.

Under the CampX concept, start-ups with promising technologies for electric and autonomous vehicles and digital solutions are invited to collaborate with Volvo engineers and business experts during short validation projects at the innovation centres.

CampX also offers an ecosystem where start-ups at an early stage receive guidance, networking, and access to knowledge from Volvo Group experts.

Here, they can validate their ideas and test them in laboratories, workshops, and on test vehicles. "Climate change is by far the biggest challenge of our generation. At the same time, the demand for transport and infrastructure continues to grow, and we must be able to meet this demand with sustainable mobility solutions. The Volvo Group is therefore committed to the decarbonisation of the transport industry by developing innovative technologies within electrification, automation, and digitalisation.

CampX is our strategic engine to drive this transformation through partnerships with innovative start-ups. We create together to accelerate," says Lars Stenqvist, Chief Technology Officer of the Volvo Group.

First launched in Gothenburg, Sweden, in 2019, three more "CampX by Volvo Group" innovation centres are located near the Volvo Group's primary Research and Development facilities in Bangalore, India, Greensboro, USA, and Lyon, France. CampX Lyon will focus primarily on decarbonisation, urban logistics, and uptime services to better support customer needs and help address the many challenges continuously growing cities pose.

At all four CampX sites, Volvo Group engineers work cross-functionally on various global projects. A targeted approach to finding new technologies and business innovations can significantly reduce time spent on product and strategy development.

#wecare: together we build a better tomorrow

Issue after issue, it is with immense pride that we receive content that attests, if any doubt remained, that we have the best people on our side. Our employees' generosity and sense of social responsibility across all geographies and companies that make up the Group show that together we are concerned about the legacy we leave behind and strive to build a better tomorrow.

May these solidarity initiatives continue to inspire us to leave a positive mark on the communities in which we operate.

Food collection - Porto Solidário Association

Once again, Nors Group joined the Porto Solidário Association, this time for the campaign "1 month = 1 good x 2". This initiative consists of a collection of foodstuffs from the employees of some of the Group's companies in the Porto area. Every two months, the requested goods are different. For each donation made by the employees, the Group will double the donation.

In February, we delivered 408 liters of milk; in April, 76 kg of breakfast cereals were donated. The association supports people and families in situations of social and economic vulnerability, namely through the distribution of foodstuffs. In June, canned food will be chosen for this solidarity initiative.

Sotkon promoted a social responsibility initiative, with the objective of mobilising its employees to support people in need in the community.

Thus, over the course of a month, both at the Porto facilities and at the Entroncamento factory, there was a collection of clothes, household items, toys, books, games, personal hygiene products and school supplies, among others.

The employees' donations and the monetary donation, at the company's expense, were then delivered to the CAT - Temporary Shelter Centre of Praia do Ribatejo. This institution is managed by Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Vila Nova da Barquinha and is a social response to the urgent and temporary reception of children and young people in vulnerable situations, between 6 and 17 years old.

Galius and IST join forces to build electric vehicles

Based on the sustainability policy of Nors and the environmental commitments and ambitions of Renault Trucks of a total decarbonisation of its fleet by 2040, Galius established a partnership with Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa, for the provision of its facilities and the knowledge and experience of its professionals, to design and prepare moulds for the construction of highly efficient electric vehicles. Once produced, these vehicles have marked their presence in national and international competitions and won numerous national awards.

This project, called PSEM - Mobile Energy Sustainability Project, was created in 2013 as the result of the desire to represent the Instituto Superior Técnico de Lisboa at Greenpower, an institution in the United Kingdom that challenges young people from all over the world to design, build and pilot an electric car, whose finals take place at venues such as Silverstone National Circuit and Goodwood Motor Circuit.

With that purpose in mind, students from IST's mechanical, electrical, aerospace, and industrial management engineering courses got together and formed the PSEM, currently counting more than 50 members, including professors and sponsors.

The role of Galius has been determinant in the treatment of the moulds of these electric vehicles, made of carbon fibre, the same material used in Formula 1 cars. After the vehicles are designed in CAD (computer-aided 3D modelling), the body goes into the production phase. A positive mold is machined in wood to get the desired shape, which is then treated at Galius facilities.

The negative moulds made of fibreglass make the final carbon fibre parts using a process called "infusion". Finally, they join the body to the chassis, also made of carbon fibre, so the body of a GP is made.

Offer to the CHVNGE Women and Children Unit

In the week that marked the first year of activity of the Woman and Child Unit (UMC), Auto Sueco Automóveis offered the Gynecology/Obstetrics service a simulation bench to install the child restraint system.

According to Joana Duarte, Hospital Administrator of the Woman, Child and Adolescent Management Unit, "the seat will promote the adoption of safe behaviour and adequate transportation of children, providing parents with the possibility of simulating and training the installation of the restraint system".

Inês Nunes, director of the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Service, thanked the organisation for this type of initiative, "which is fundamental so that the teams of health professionals have the necessary tools to further empower families to safely care for their newborn babies. While for first-time parents this learning is essential, for experienced parents it is an opportunity to reaffirm skills and boost their confidence".

Nors companies in Brazil offered a unique day for children of an association

Auto Sueco São Paulo, the Corporate Structure, and Norshare Brasil got together for social action in favour of children from Associação Superação.

Located in a peripheral region with a high crime rate in Guarulhos, this non-profit association supports 133 children up to 17 years old.

In order to provide a day of fun for these children, the Group companies hired snacks, popcorn, cotton candy stands, and toys ranging from inflatables, slides, and swings to simulators.

Additionally, Nors employees donated a toy for each child, and some also enlivened the gathering with face painting and balloons.

Support for those affected by the earthquakes in Turkey

Given the destruction caused by the earthquakes which struck Turkey and Syria at the beginning of the year, the Group joined in the aid provided by the Anadolu Isuzu Group by donating 10 steel tents worth €5,000.

Nors in Angola: "Braço Direito" project

The companies of the Nors Group in Angola, within the scope of their social responsibility project, organised the initiative "Braço Direito" (Right Arm), which aims to give the young trainees of INEFOP (National Institute of Employment and Professional Training), Nors scholarship holders and students of Comunidade Nossa Terra, the opportunity to live one day of their future work side by side with our employees, thus getting a general and practical view of their training area and on how our organisation works.

The United Nations estimates that 9 million people were directly affected in Turkey in a disaster in which more than 55,000 people lost their lives and 850,000 children were left homeless.

we are charming 104

The activity took place at the companies of the Nors Group in Angola, with the participation of 16 young people and 14 employees of the companies as mentors. During the day, the young people could experience the daily activities of employees from the most diverse areas, accompany them in their tasks and carry out some tasks. Our mentors played a fundamental role in presenting the organisational dynamics, representing each of our companies.

At the end of the day, confidence in a more promising future for all of us was strengthened!

Prison Yoga Project: "raising mind and body" beyond the bars

In April, Nors joined ALMAZ - Holistic Prison Association - in supporting the "Prison Yoga Project", an initiative whose primary purpose is to help prisoners with yoga and meditation practices to promote rehabilitation and social reintegration, reduce recidivism, improve mental and physical health, promote social and behavioural transformation, and prevent public safety.

Currently, more than one hundred inmates in Portugal attend yoga and meditation classes, and the goal is to reach 49 national prisons.

The Prison Yoga Project was born in the USA two decades ago. It arrived in Portugal one year ago through Almaz. The association's objective is clear: "We fight for a safe society, in which we care for each other, and where prisoners and ex-prisoners are part of. We want to offer them holistic rehabilitation and transformation so that they can integrate into their immediate environment and society more healthily, for themselves and for everyone."

105

cultural stop

We know that fish memory is what our people don't have. However, we wanted to challenge one person from each generation that makes up Nors to go to the "treasure chest of memories" to look for their favourite childhood memory. One thing's for sure: between more or less cobwebs, everyone shook the (metaphorical) dust off their scrapbook and brought us testimonies full of affection and tenderness. Check out if any of these stories awaken your sense of déjà vu!

One of the people who influenced my growth as an adult was my grandmother: a strong, sweet woman who was always thinking about her family.

Thanks to her, I knew what affection was in an implicit way. She never knew how to express her feelings, but we knew the affection she had inside her. It was with her that I started writing my first letters at school. I inherited her handwriting.

I remember many moments with her: the musical movies she loved, the trips we took together when I was little, the love she felt for my grandfather, the chicken, and pasta she used to make (no matter how far the world goes, nothing will taste as good to me as what she used to cook). For more than a moment, there remains the person I will cherish for the rest of my life.

When I was younger, my grandfather was a craftsman. We had the privilege of making our own toys: stick cars, batuque, viola (guitar), and tin cars.

One of the things that impressed me most was the tin car and the scooter, made from wood or bamboo trunks. The wheels were ball bearings made from waste from some workshops.

In Sambizanga, we also played a lot on the slide: we cut a bidon and used it to slide down.

Domingos Dombo Mechanic Kinlai

I cherish my childhood memories: full of love and family. Every special occasion included my extended family.

We were poor but rich in love, and the days were filled with lots of fun and innocence. My father worked three jobs, and my mother was a housewife. Today, my 6 grandchildren fill my heart.

When I think of my childhood at Lepati Farm, the most precious memories transport me to an incredible place. I was a mischievous child, always involved in mischief, and the farm was the perfect setting to explore my energy.

I would climb tall trees, like the mango tree or avocado tree, with my brother while our mother prepared lunch. I remember bathing in the dam near our house whenever it was very hot. I used to run a lot between the pineapple plantations. I loved to feel the earth under my bare feet and the aroma in the air. One of my favourite memories is riding with my father in the countryside, where we would see the cattle and tidy the fences. Today, even with a busy life in the city, I make a point of going back to the farm whenever I can. Each visit is a trip back in time.

Lepati Farm is my refuge, where I learnt to love the land and the animals, respect nature and value simple things. Those memories continue to make me smile and brighten the greyest days when I am away from home.
