My name is Kevin, and I was invited to attend an event at Meadow Lynn Farm. You’ve heard of “Who let the Dogs Out…” well, this was “Who let the Cows out, moo moo moo moo!!” The farm is located at 146 Decou Rd in Simcoe and is run by Sarah Judd, her husband and in-laws. It was started up 75 years ago and has been passed down through the generations. They have strawberry fields and also grow grain crops and veggies. With this produce, they offer a 10-week program through the summer where people pay $350 and sign up online for a produce box of whatever is available that week. The family also have cows that they raise and take care of. The event was attended by around 50 people, and it was a great time. The cows were released from the barn to the pasture. For some of them, it was their first time out on the grass. They ran out of the barns, some of them stopping to taste the grass and meet the people there. Others were too excited and ready to play. Their ears were flapping, and they were shaking their heads and racing around, just having a great time. All of the cows had a yellow tag on their ear, with a number on it, to identify them, but they all also had names. After letting the cows out, we went back up into the yard and had a potluck supper of chilli, macaroni salad and a selection of desserts. After supper, I did an interview with Sarah Judd, and she shared some information about the history of the farm and their products for sale. During the interview, one of the cows joined us, so I got to pet him. It was an interesting experience for me, and I appreciate Sarah’s time. She is also kind enough to provide the straw bails for the Community Living Access garden, so I hope to see members of the community at Meadow Lynn Farm supporting Sarah’s work!
