Serviced office hub Vulcan Works will support three Northamptonshire charities this summer by repeating its weekly fundraising initiative.
Last year in July and August, the town centre workspace launched Charity Tuesdays, offering free hotdesking in its coworking space every Tuesday, in exchange for a nominal charity donation, raising hundreds of pounds for Cynthia Spencer Hospice and the Northamptonshire Community Foundations' Family Food Aid Appeal.
This year, Charity Tuesdays will see Vulcan Works provide free coworking for a financial pledge to three new local worthwhile causes.
There is no minimum suggested contribution, it can be any amount in cash.
First up in June is Baby Basics Northampton, a volunteer-led charity dedicated to supporting new parents and newborns in vulnerable situations.
The charity of choice for July is Breast Friends, who work closely with consultants and staff in both Northamptonshire hospitals to provide support for breast cancer patients in the form of gift bags, monthly and fortnightly coffee mornings and evenings, a choir, sewing group, gardening group, weekly Pilates and exercise classes, swimming trips, canal trips, and bookclub.
Finally, in August, Vulcan Works will be supporting The Lowdown, a charity which offers a caring environment where Northamptonshire's young people are always supported on their journey towards positive emotional health and wellbeing.
Vulcan Works, which can be found in the Cultural Quarter area of Northampton, offers lettable office space, workshops, meeting rooms and coworking spaces, as well as holding a range of business support events.

24/Three are a team of architects, designers, and collaborators specialising in transforming environments across all scales with thoughtful, innovative design.

WHAT TO DO WHEN EMPLOYEES APPEAR UNMOTIVATED TO WORK
Team members not working productively lose your business a lot of money!
So the excitement of Christmashas well and truly passed and we areall now back into the swing of work, well, most of us are!
It seems increasingly common to have team members who seem to have no interest in working, but why is this?
Thisarticle will investigate potential reasons behind their lack of work motivation and provide ways to deal with the situation and the staff member in question.
Don't iump to conclusions
Before you jump inand accuse yourstaff member(s) of being lazy oruseless you shouldfirst ask why you think theyaren't working as they should be? Is this your perception of the situation, or is there some factual basis you can pinpoint their behaviour on?
Emotions canrun high when tasks aren't being completed in the way you want them to be, or by when you want them finished. This tends to be common when leaders/managers areunder a lot of pressure.
Investigate the root cause
Did the employee start off well andhad been doinga good joband there has beena change in behaviour?
If so, you need to understandwhathas changed in their world either in the work or home environment.
It could be that a new employee is taking up lots of their time, they dislike someone or they could be being bullied. On the other hand, it could be stress from home, a splitfroma partner, or lack of sleep due to specific factors.
Maybe theyare not feeling challenged enough in their role, or did they apply fora higher position and didn'tsecure the role.
Maybe they feel undervalued or ignored so think you don't carewhat they do or don't do?
Are they neurodivergent or disabled and need additional support?
Were they right for the role in the first place?
If you have employed staff by matching their skillsand experience toa clear job role with specifiedcompetenciesthey had to meet there shouldn't bea problem, however , if you didn't do this the reason they aren't workingcould simply be because they can't do the job and need training.
Are you performance tracking?
Staffcan be easily demotivated by chaotic and unstructured management so take a look at how you are measuring their output andhow you are delegating tasks to them.
Do they have structured KPls (Key Performance Indicators) whichare aligned to thebusiness goals and reviewed regularly? Do they have set daily tasks that worktowardsthe goals, or is it acrazy mess with no structure with lots of last minutetasks thrown at them?
This will help you ascertain if they're not productive because of lack of structure, have toomuch on their plate or simply not adheringto the targets they should be working towards.
Is it your fault?
It's always good to reflect andassess your own managementstyle and consider if you are still the best person for the job. Did youhave management training experience to startwith and if not, are you managing in a way you think is best? Have youbecomeso busy you don't have thetime to dedicate to manage the team and need to employ someone?
Address the problem
By this stage, you should be on the way to knowing whatthe situation is and defining the solution, if not them it's time to draft in professional help.

"As entrepreneurs we are so lucky to have the opportunity to build a business that we love. I came here six months ago saying I need help with my messaging and I feel like I've done that now and it's all thanks to the incubator programme, the people that I've met and Darren's fantastic coaching."

A Northamptonshire-based graphic designer who launched her business to help purpose-driven organisations bring their ideas to life has been named a winner at the 2025 Midlands Startup Awards.
Olivia Krawczyk, founder of OneKind Creative, took home the Startup for Good award, a category that celebrates businesses making a positive impact in the world. The awards ceremony took place on Tuesday 17th June in Birmingham, with winners chosen from hundreds of businesses across the Midlands region.
At just 23 years old, Olivia has building a name for herself through her hands-on, values-led approach to design.
From charities tackling taboo topics such as menstrual hygiene education to social enterprises looking to grow their impact, OneKind Creative specialises in helping purpose-led organisations tell their story through strategic design.
"Winning this award means the world," Olivia said. "I started OneKind Creative because I truly believe in the power of design to make a difference. It's about so much more than just making things look nice! Design can create real change and start important conversations. As someone from a small town who didn't follow a traditional path after school, it's amazing to be recognised on such a big stage."
The UK Startup Awards, which celebrate entrepreneurial talent across the country, saw over 750 businesses shortlisted this year. Olivia's win places her among a national cohort of standout entrepreneurs, all of whom will now go on to represent their region at the UK fmal at Ideas Fest, dubbed the "Glastonbury for business" in September.
According to Professor Dylan Jones-Evans OBE, creator of the UK StartUp Awards, this surge in start-up ambition reflects a new generation of entrepreneurs who are not only identifying opportunities but also building innovative, resilient businesses that are shaping the future of the regional economy.
"Across the UK, a new generation of entrepreneurs is quietly reshaping our economy - one idea, one venture, one leap of faith at a time," said Professor Jones-Evans.
"That's why we created the Startup Awards: to recognise the people building something from nothing and turning ambition into impact."
Olivia is based in Daventry, where she continues to grow her business and collaborate with purpose-led organisations across the UK. Alongside her work, she's passionate about mentoring others and using her platform to make the design industry more accessible and sustainable; exploring how eco-conscious practices can be embedded into communication design.
"I hope this inspires other young people and shows that you don't have to follow the traditional path," Olivia added. "I never went to university instead I spent time solo travelling and working with organisations to build my portfolio. It's a lot of work, and you have to create your own opportunities, but it's so worth putting the effort in to build something that's truly yours."

ELEVATEYOURMEETINGS AT HAMPTON BY HILTON CORBY
the perfect venue for your next corporate event,
or team meeting?
A key part of the programme is the commitment to engage with small business owners through Smarter Society's 'Beat the Streets' initiative which sees the team actively visiting the 12 towns that make up North Northamptonshire, and small businesses operating there. This hands-on approach allows the team to get to know the business and understand the unique challenges they face to identify specific areas where support is most needed.
Cllr Jan O'Hara Executive Member for Planning and Economic Growth at North Northamptonshire Council said:
"We know how vital small businesses are to the local economy and to the life of our communities. Last year's programme directly supported 75 small businesses, helping them to build confidence, gain new skills and grow stronger in challenging times.
"This year, we're building on that success with a refreshed programme offering expert-led mentoring, training, and practical advice. This brilliant programme develops skills, shapes ideas, and strengthens resilience. Through its delivery we're giving small businesses the best chance to succeed, helping our High Streets and town centres to thrive."
Brian Pinnell, Programme Lead for Smarter Society said:
"We're proud to continue working with North Northamptonshire Council on this important programme. Small businesses are at the heart of local communities, and we're here to help them adapt, grow, and succeed in what remains a very challenging environment."
Cllr Martin Griffiths, Leader of the Council, said:
"Our High Streets are the beating hearts of our wonderful towns in North Northamptonshire and we're committed to doing what we can to support them boosting businesses to keep communities thriving.
"Programmes such as this are essential in offering the much valued help and advice and I'm delighted to see this support on offer."
The initiative will work alongside the Council's ongoing Hi Street campaign, which champions small businesses and encourages residents to shop local and explore what towns in the area have to offer.
The first virtual event is focussed on business therapy and is coming up on July 22nd at 10am.
Businesses can find out more about the programme, register their interest and sign up for mentoring and events at www.nnbusiness.co.uk
