A Closer Look at...
Untapped Member Resources
If you ask any group of NJDA members about the most important aspect of their membership, you’ll likely hear a variety of responses centered around community, advocacy, information, and savings. Some member resources, like our online Licensure Requirements Series (with 1,700 participants!), are well-known and widely used. However, others, such as our Peer Review program, tend to fly under the radar. These lesser-known resources range from newer offerings to those that may only be needed once or twice in a dentist’s career.
In this issue of NJDA InFocus, we’ll highlight some of these “untapped” resources so you can fully benefit from all that your membership has to offer.
Remember, as an NJDA member, you never practice alone!

SPECIAL NEEDS PROVIDER LIST
If you treat special needs patients in your practice, you should be on this list! NJDA partners with the Delta Dental Foundation and Special Olympics to connect parents and caregivers with NJDA’s Special Needs Provider List. This could lead to more patients for your practice!
NEW DENTIST MEET-UPS
Take advantage of these free opportunities for early-career dentists to attend local dental society meetings without the pressure of walking into a room full of strangers. Meet-ups allow you to connect with a small group of other new dentists before attending the full meeting and CE lecture.

ASSOCIATE CONTRACT REVIEW

PEER REVIEW
While most dentists never need to use it, members appreciate having Peer Review when a conflict with a patient arises. Peer Review keeps disputes outside of the court system and the State Board of Dentistry.
ASSOCIATION MEMBER TRUST
AMT is a New Jersey-based nonprofit that offers group health and life plans to NJDA members. Over 800 individuals are currently covered through this exclusive benefit, and there’s always room for more members and their teams!
WELL-BEING INDEX
NJDA members have access to a validated self-assessment tool for dentists, created by the Mayo Clinic. The Well-Being Index measures multiple dimensions of distress and well-being, including quality of life, fatigue, burnout, concern for recent dental errors, and more.
CPR TRAINING
NJDA hosts state-mandated CPR training at NJDA Headquarters each month. Did you know that we also offer a “blended” option (online course with in-person testing) and an “in-your-office” option for members?
Time for Dentists to Open Wide and Speak for Their Profession
Dentists are one of NJDA’s greatest untapped advocacy resources. But here’s a question:
In the past six months, how often has a state legislator or policymaker sought your expertise on issues impacting dentistry?
For most, the answer is likely zero—with only rare exceptions. That’s why NJDA has invested in a Director of Advocacy and Health Affairs to ensure that all 120 state legislators, One Governor, multiple key state agencies, the NJ State Dental Board, and even your current and future patients fully understand the challenges and complexities of your profession.
However, one of the most effective tools to convince any legislator or policy maker is not only money but also hearing the expertise of a dentist and your personal story that can inspire change. Now is the time to speak up, engage with policymakers, and help shape the future of dentistry in New Jersey.
Why Get Involved?
Every day, policies shaped in Trenton and Washington, D.C. impact your ability to care for your patients and run a successful practice. The reality is if you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu—and legislators need to hear from you, the experts, to make informed decisions that protect the future of dentistry.
Thanks to the advocacy efforts NJDA has committed to over the years, we’ve already seen major progress in insurance reform, workforce, and licensure improvements—but the work is far from over. Your voice is the missing piece to ensuring policies continue to benefit both your profession and your patients.
How Can You Make a Difference?
Write or Call Your Legislators
A quick email or phone call can have a powerful impact. Lawmakers make decisions based on what they hear from their constituents—make sure they hear from you.
Join NJDA Advocacy Events
Be part of our Lobby Day or other key events where you’ll have the opportunity to meet with policymakers, share your experiences, and advocate for meaningful change.
Support Key Legislation
One bill we’re actively championing is Senate Bill 1479, which ensures healthcare providers have the right to negotiate with carriers on critical fee-related and non-fee-related matters. This is just one of many legislative efforts that will shape the future of dentistry.
The bottom line? If you don’t speak up, someone else will. Now is the time to use your voice—not just in your practice, but in the halls of power. Join NJDA’s advocacy efforts and help drive real change.
Stay tuned to your Monday Morning Emails and Calls to Action for opportunities to become a Dental Advocate with NJDA!
