Let’s celebrate womanhood. We all acknowledge March month, especially for women and we all speak about women empowerment. There are many women around us who are successful, powerful, and socially recognized, but there are women who think that they are worthless. Though they make major contributions to their families, but most of the time their jobs are considered worthless and thankless. It is so sad when we speak about women’s empowerment; we just ignore women around us. I think we can encourage these women by recognizing and appreciating them. On the other hand, it often seems that working women live with the guilt of not being able to focus on their children and family due to their careers. I want to say to every woman that women empowerment is not outside power. It is deep inside self-esteem and recognition. Whether you are a working woman or a homemaker, you should live with a high spirit and be strong from the inside. Whatever you are doing, it is the best of your deeds. So salute yourself and every woman around you. Encourage one another in every area. In this edition, we are delighted to share another inspiring woman’s truth with our readers. Namratha, the winner of a Miss India Quintessential 2020, comes from Hyderabad, Telangana, and she’s truly a woman to remember. With sheer determination to make her country proud, she is all set to participate in an International Pageant and take the crown home. G-Town had the opportunity to have an insightful interview with her and is thrilled to share it with you. Furthermore, we bring a series of informative articles on cervical cancer, which is beneficial to all ages of woman.

Q.1 How would you describe yourself as a person? I would describe myself as an uncut diamond. There’s a unique trait of a diamond that I resonate with; no matter the angle it’s placed in, a diamond shines through each time and never loses its ability to do so. Similarly, I believe that I shine in every aspect of my life. I am a blessed woman with multiple talents in me and I try to embrace and rejoice in each of my talents that help me become the woman I am today. I endeavored to win the title with my natural talents, just like an uncut diamond, and I was confident enough to achieve it. With zero prior pageant training, I participated in Miss India Quintessential and took away the crown with nothing but sheer will and efforts to win it. Q.2 As the winner of Miss India Quintessential 2019, what is the one thing you have learned from the experience of being the ‘it girl’? I don’t think I can put my finger on one thing because plenty of things has collectively made me the ‘it girl’. The experience itself was overwhelming. I learned about the stories behind every individual I met on this journey, which made me feel more connected to each one of them. Interacting with the entire team of MIQ; make-up artists, photographers, assistance team, sponsors, and my beautiful state contestants gave me valuable insights. Knowing their stories, ideologies, perspective, and experiences enlightened me and made me feel like a part of something whole. After this experience, all I can say is ‘India is beyond incredible!’ Q,3. What were the top three things that helped you throughout your journey of MIQ ‘19? Confidence, Self-Love, and Humility. Q.4 Would you like to share any three facts about you that our audience may be unaware of? Yes, of course. Well, I used to have smooth curly hair when I was a toddler, I’m ambidextrous, and I have multiple degrees in education. Q.5. What brought you to participate in a national beauty pageant? I can’t give you one reason but I can give you three; to bring out the voice of the unheard to amplify it, to bring out the beauty never seen to shine on it, and to bring out the hidden confidence to empower it. It’s the burning flame of desire to atone for the power I have for being a woman and I want to take the initiative in this chain reaction and light the fire within oneself from the bigger platform. COVER STORY

Q.6 As you would now be representing India in an International pageant, how are you feeling and preparing for it? I feel extremely honored to be representing my country and my primary goal is to make my country proud to the best of my ability in every aspect. I am looking forward to new beginnings and a new life - my dream life. When I was a little girl, I would ask my father to take me on a world tour and he would say, “When you work for your own dreams that effort gives you more happiness than any other”. Fortunately, I am one step closer to my dream and it feels surreal. If I had to put my feelings into a sentence, it would be “I love my life and I want to witness the miracle of life on this planet earth.” Q.6 As you would now be representing India in an International pageant, how are you feeling and preparing for it? Fortunately, I am one step closer to my dream and it feels surreal. If I had to put my feelings into a sentence, it would be “I love my life and I want to witness the miracle of life on this planet earth.” Q,7. Being a pageant girl, you must consistently take care of your skin and appearance. In a busy world like ours, how do you manage to do so? The credit for my skincare and healthcare goes to my mother as she has been the one to guide me. I have sensitive skin and I’m eczema-prone since my childhood so my mother constructed a proper daily skin care routine that I now follow religiously. I fondly remember my mother waiting for me in my room with a moisturizer and sunscreen, so I wouldn’t forget to wear them. Apart from that, she made sure that I consumed healthy nutritious food, which is now engraved in me. I will never forget her telling me, “Taking care of yourself should always be your first priority in every aspect of life.” Q,8. According to you, what is your edge over other contestants from other countries in the international pageant? I’m exuberated to meet other contestants representing their gorgeous countries respectively. I am looking forward to witnessing their life journeys and the authenticity that they bring from their motherland to share with the world. Moreover, I want to experience and unleash more adventures and knowledge that make us one.

13

It’s the burning flame of desire to atone for the power I have for being a woman.

15

Well, participating in a pageant has helped me view the world on a much bigger spectrum. It gave me self-focus and consistency to work toward my aim in life, which indeed influenced every person around me to have a healthy relationship with body, mind, and soul. Furthermore, ‘Someone looking up to you’ has empowered and polished my leadership qualities along with my personality. It has pushed me to never give up, rise up, and spread kindness. Q.10. What piece of advice would you like to share with young girls aspiring to win the title? I would like to say to all my lovely pageant aspirants that it’s not about winning the title but winning the hearts of the people around you that makes you worthy of the crown. A healthy competition, sportsmanship, and a positive mindset should always be of utmost importance when participating in a pageant. The primary motive of competing in a pageant should be to broaden one’s horizon by learning, growing, empowering, and having fun. Being yourself is a basic fundamental to being in a pageant and it’s the journey that teaches you to be the best version of yourself. Q. 11 How would you describe your style and how does it make you stand out? My style is all about embracing comfort. I have a mix of hip hop, gothic, and comfy styles. I believe that it’s all about how we carry ourselves irrespective of what kind of clothes we’re wearing. One thing I never leave my house without wearing is Confidence. I am fascinated with shoes, hoodies, and hats. The love for hoodies was instilled in me when I started to wear my brother’s hoodies and it made me feel like being in my element.

March - April ‘22

My fashion style is gothic and my personality is bright - quite an unusual combination. But to my advantage, this combination makes me stand out. I’ve had people resonating with my style and even providing numerous compliments, which act as a confidence boost for me Q.12. What’s your favorite cheat meal? In all honesty, I cheat every meal. Q.13. How do you deal with your critics?

Do I have critics? Well, I’ve always taken them as compliments.

Q.9. How has being a part of a pageant helped you in your daily life?

Q. 14. What’s your favorite activity to do in your leisure time? My ideology on doing favorite things is never on leisure time, it is all the time. I make time for all my favorite activities like art, music, singing, dancing, comics, manga, cosplay, watching anime, spending time with plants and animals, and learning something new every day. Q.15. What is your fitness secret? I have inculcated the habit of being active and working out since my childhood. I would rather call them ‘habits’ than a secret. My constant motivation for fitness is martial arts which led to learning from combat Taekwondo sports academy where Master Narasimha Sensei said, “When your mind is strong your body, soul, and everything around you gets stronger.”

‘Someone looking up to you’ has empowered and polished my leadership qualities along with my personality. It has pushed me to never give up, rise up, and spread kindness.

THE WEDDING JEWELLERY ATTIRE Mr Chaitanya V Cotha, Executive Director, 150 Years Heritage Luxury Jewellery House C Krishniah Chetty Group Of Jewellers

A

grand wedding has often been recounted on the pomp and grandeur that one experiences at the event – the place, the relatives, the food and most importantly, the young couple decked with all the fine jewellery. Being a jewellery lover, I am keen on gathering information on the customary and traditional jewels that are a part of the wedding essentials to keep up with the tradition as we move along. At C. Krishniah Chetty Group of Jewellers, the traditional jewellers continue to manufacture lots of these customary jewels with their old charm intact, yet, a few have undergone a minimum makeover to match the present generation.

March - April ‘22

However, it is saddening that many of the traditional jewels have perished over time. Nevertheless, a few continue to be adorned for generations and have become a part of a traditional jewellery wardrobe. Although we can recollect a lot of long-established jewels, below are the most amazing and often bump into jewellery that every individual owns.

THE Royal EARRINGS The most striking jewel that seeks immediate attention on the ears is these earrings have we have admired on every cute angle or a damsel. Perhaps, these are the jewels often gifted to many of our siblings. The unique open umbrella dome that I would call it, rather than by its name Jumkas. The traditional jumkas are the ‘charmers’ of the ears. Often heavy and intricate worked earrings that add another dimension to one’s beauty. Either set with gems or plain embossed, they carry their beauty along with them. These jumakas often accompany the traditional long necklaces to add the charm of royal looks.

At C. Krishniah Chetty Group of Jewellers, slight modifications are necessary to keep up with the desires of the parents, who demand motifs of Gods, Goddesses, flowers, birds in their jewellery. Often the request for customisation of goddess Lakshmi embossed as large centrepiece and decorated with gems is sought, as a sign of good luck and fortune, following them.

A PREVENTABLE CANCER: Cervical Cancer & Its Preventable Strategies

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer in women worldwide; with India contributing to one-fourth of the global cases. India sees about 1,22,844 cases of cervical cancer every year and accounts for one-third of the global cancer deaths. These figures are alarming because unlike most other cancers, we have effective screening methods to detect women who are likely to develop cancer in the future and detect cancer at its early stage. This apart, we do have vaccinations against the Human Papilloma Virus which has been clearly identified as the causative agent in more than 99 percent of cervical cancers. Inaccessibility of the screening modalities in the rural areas, the cost of the HPV vaccine and a lack of knowledge amongst the general population result in India continuing to see a high number of new cases of cervical cancer till date. Despite effective screening strategies, only 7% of the general population get their Pap smears regularly and a far few are aware of a preventive vaccine! March - April ‘22

Author – Dr Geeth Monnappa, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Fortis La Femme Hospital, Richmond Road, Bangalore Regular screening with PaP smear and HPV DNA for high risk strains and universal vaccination of young girls have resulted in a drastic reduction in the cases of cervical cancer in the West. With better implementation of screening programs in the rural areas, availability of HPV vaccines to all young girls and regular education of women on the importance of regular screening and vaccination, India is sure to see a drastic reduction in the burden of cervical cancer.

How is cervical cancer different from the rest of the cancers? Unlike most other cancers, we know what causes cervical cancer and that has been a major breakthrough! Human papilloma virus causes most of the cancers and it takes 15-20 years from contracting the infection to developing cancer. This gives us a large window to identify women at high risk for developing cancer who can be sujected to a close surveillance. The HPV vaccine available in India protects against HPV 16 and 18, the two strains that are responsible for 70 percent of cervical cancers. In addition it does confer some cross immunity with the other high risk types. If given to all girls prior to the onset of sexual activity, it can result in a drastic reduction of the number of cervical cancers in the years to come.

Human Papilloma virus (HPV): HPV is the most common viral infection of the reproductive tract. Most sexually active women contract the infection at some point in their lives with or without symptoms. There are more than 100 types of HPV, of which about 14 strains are the high risk typesresponsible for cancer. Most infections in women clear without any intervention within 2 years. However, in a few, the high risk strains of the virus persist in the body beyond 2 years, get integrated with the cells and progress to cervical cancer.

Regular screening is the key for early detection of cervical cancer

How To Prevent Cervical Cancer? HPV Vaccine

Ideal age for vaccination : 9-14 years before the onset of sexual activity Dosage: 2 doses 6 months apart Between 15 - 45 yrs: 3 doses recommended.

Cervical Cancer Screening - Pap Smear

A Pap test looks for changes in the cells of the cervix that might become cancer if not appropriately treated.

Safe Practices

How is it done?

It’s done as an outpatient procedure in the doctors’ clinic, where a metal or plastic instrument is inserted to widen the vagina and visualise the mouth of the uterus (cervix). A few cells are taken from the cervix for microscopic examination.

Safe sexual practices like using condoms and limiting the number of sexual partners reduce the chances of getting HPV infection, thus, reducing the chances of developing Cervical Cancer.

Is it painful?

Although one may feel a slight discomfort similar to that felt during a vaginal examination, a Pap test is not a painful procedure.

Who should be doing a Pap Smear?

All women between 21-65 years should get regular Pap smears done every 3 years. If a woman is screened with HPV DNA along with a Pap smear after 25 years (preferred over Pap test alone); the screening interval can be increased to 5 years.

Who should be doing a Pap Smear?

As the vaccine is not 100 percent protective against cervical cancer and doesn’t cover all high risk strains of the virus, it is important to continue screening even after being vaccinated.

March - April ‘22

If there’s a cancer that can be eradicated in the future, it is cervical cancer! So, let’s work towards universal vaccination and regular screening to make this a reality.

HEALTH HUB

How prevalent is cervical cancer in India? It is a common cancer affecting women second only to breast cancer. It constitutes 16.5% of all cancer cases in Indian women. About 160 million women between the ages of 30 and 59 years are at risk of developing cervical cancer. Approximately 1,23,907 cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed in India every year with 77,348 deaths. Bleeding in between periods Bleeding after sex Bleeding following menopause Pelvic pain and low back pain Vaginal discharge which is blood stained and/or has odour

In conclusion, please consider the HPV vaccination for you and your daughters and schedule a pap smear as early as possible.

How to reduce the risk of Cervical Cancer? The good news is that it is totally preventable. The most important thing you can do to help prevent cervical cancer is to get vaccinated early and have regular screening tests.

Treatment planning for cervix cancer depends on the stage. MRI Pelvis is a good modality for local staging and we use CT or PET CT scan to look for distant spread. If the lesion is early stage, then the focus is on local therapies. A small tumor without lymph node involvement can be treated with surgery based on size and extent. Surgery could be a Radical trachelectomy or a Radical Hysterectomy. Sentinel Lymph Node mapping is used when applicable (a technique of injecting a dye to identify canceraffected lymph nodes).

improve the quality of life and survivorship. There is an emerging role of immunotherapy and newer drugs based on molecular characterization of cancer in the individual by testing the tumor tissue.

However often External Beam Radiotherapy(RT) and later Brachytherapy are required. This involves giving radiation to the part affected by cancer and some surrounding structures. RT techniques have evolved considerably and therefore healthy structures are spared with better techniques. To make the process of RT more effective, radiosensitizers are used and that is in the form of chemotherapy (concurrent platinum-containing). This means certain medicines are injected into veins which not just prevent the spread of cancer to other parts of the body, but also increase the effect of RT. Rarely when cervical cancer has already metastasized, which means that it is spread to other parts of the body like the lungs, non-regional lymph nodes, liver, etc; then we administer chemotherapy and biologics to reduce the tumor burden &

After completion of treatment, all women have advised surveillance which means regular follow-up check-ups to make sure that the disease is under control. Ultrasounds or CT scans or PET-CT are repeated based on the initial stage and risk of recurrence. Along with this- a healthy lifestyle, exercise, and diet advice are an integral part of management. Often a counselor (psycho-oncologist) is involved in the entire course of treatment.

Certain important scenarios are always considered. For a very early stage of Cervical cancer in a young woman who’s keen on retaining her fertility, certain fertility-sparing options like Fertility-Sparing Trachelectomy are used. In fact, cervix cancer is one of the common cancers detected during pregnancy.

So remember the best protection is early detection. Choose a healthy lifestyle and regular screening. Stay healthy and stay strong. Tough girls fight strong!

etween India and China, we account for over 35% of the world’s cervical cancers. Sadly, every seven minutes one Indian woman dies of cervical cancer, with India having the highest estimated number of cervical cancer deaths. It is no less than an epidemic. But Cervix Cancer is preventable and of course treatable. A Pap smear is a simple test that has become the Gold Standard for early detection of Cervical Cancer in women with almost 94% specificity. The test by itself takes just a few minutes in an outpatient setup where the specialist collects a few cells for testing from the cervix (which is the lower part of the uterus).

This article is dedicated to supporting the fighters, admiring the survivors and honoring the ones who have been diagnosed with cervix cancer, and telling them to never ever give up hope. We don’t know how strong we are until that’s the only choice we have!!

Sadly, most often women come to the hospital only when they have frank symptoms and have not undergone a screening pap smear. Symptoms include – inter-menstrual bleed, post-menopausal bleed, post-coital- bleed, foul-smelling discharge, or occasionally back pain & pelvic pain. In such cases, the first objective is to confirm the diagnosis by doing a cervical biopsy which is an outpatient punch biopsy. The usual type of Cervix cancer remains Keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma, however, some data suggest an increase in adenocarcinoma cervix.

The HPV vaccine protects against the particular types of HPV that cause cervical cancer. It can be given from the age of 12 to 45 years. However, the earlier a woman gets vaccinated, the more protection she receives. From 15 years onwards, a threedose schedule is recommended (0 dose, 2 months, 6 months). For children less than 15 years, a 2-dose schedule 6 months apart is recommended. This vaccine is proven to be safe.

Secondly, the Pap smear is a screening test and is performed every 3 years. It is a simple internal examination wherein the cervix is visualised and a small brush or wooden spatula is used to give a gentle scrape. This is then smeared on a glass slide for the pathologist to report. If normal, the smear may be repeated in 3 years. If any precancerous changes are seen, they can be acted upon according to the severity. Please schedule a pap smear if you have never had it done. One may have it from the age of 25 or 3 years following sexual debut to the age of 65 years.

The WHO has recommended a Cervical Cancer Elimination Initiative in 2018. It states that by the year 2030, every country must have 90% of their girls fully vaccinated before age 15; 70% of women screening by age of 35; and 90% of women with pre-cancer must be treated and 90% of women with invasive cancer must be managed. These 90-70-90 targets will help eliminate cervical cancer within the next century.

am sure at one time or another we have all been in a situation where we have met someone, clicked right away, and about three to six months down the road, they exhibit behavior that feels controlling and overbearing. It takes a few months of direct interaction with someone to really understand their personality and the way they perceive the world around them, how they movethrough the world, interact with people, and their expectations of others in and outside of their circle of family and friends.

Some behaviors that a toxic person might exhibit:

When thinking about what defines a toxic person, in general terms, it is someone that is manipulative and overbearing. It is someone that wants to control the thoughts and behaviors of others. To feel in control of their space and those around them, they have to find ways to manipulate their family, friends, and their significant other.

Difficulty getting along with others Needy Critical of themselves and others Bullying Jealousy Lying Does not take responsibility for their decisions or actions Imposing Has lack of respect for others’ space, person, property, or belongings Is unkind Cares only for their welfare Has a lack of empathy

75

There are multiple traits that can be attributed to the toxic person. These traits are not based on a single incident or a specific stressor, but overall, everyday functioning. These are people that have formed a harsh opinion about the world and about people and themselves, because of what they learned growing up and as a result have a distrust of others, see the world as harsh and unkind, or even see themselves as unworthy of close and authentic relationships.

Being more aware of the traits of a toxic person, it might be a tad bit easier to determine whether you are in a toxic relationship. However, you still might be a little fuzzy and question whether the relationship is in fact toxic. People that are toxic may also be manipulative. A manipulative person can be rather sneaky and skillful in how they influence others to do things for their benefit. In some of these cases, the toxic person can be rather versed in gaslighting those they want to manipulate. Gaslighting is where someone emotionally influences another to question their own thoughts, beliefs, values, action, and memories.

I f yo u a re s o m e o n e wh o i s i n a t ox i c s i t u a t i o n , i t c a n b e a c h a l l e n ge t o a c t u a l ly s e e t h e t ox i c i t y fo r wh a t i t i s , b e c a u s e t h e ga s l i g h t i n g c o u l d b e s o b a d t h a t yo u’re q u e s t i o n i n g yo u r o wn s t a b i l i t y a n d d e c i s i o n - m a k i n g a b i l i t y.

Many times, when a person finds themselves in a toxic relationship, it’s hard to see the manipulation until that person feels comfortable enough around you to let down their guard and exhibit their true behavior and thoughts. It can also be that person who you have been around your entire life and have a biological relationship with, where it is difficult to create space or boundaries with, because of having a long history with that person. A toxic person can be a friend, co-worker, boss, parent, sibling, someone you’re dating or married to. March - April ‘22

If you find yourself in a situation with a toxic person, there are things you can do for yourself. First and most importantly, listen to your intuition. If you are feeling uncomfortable around a person, how they treat you or others, and if they react to everyday situations in extreme ways, it may be time to really listen to your inner-knowing and decide if this is a person is going to contribute to your life in a healthy way. Don’t discount or ignore that inner voice. It is alerting you to something that you need to take a closer look at. Many times, we brush our inner voice aside and rationalize the behavior or actions of another, because we want to hold on to the relationship, but to what end? It might be time to take a deeper look at what you’re really holding onto and how this person aligns with your values and beliefs in both their words and actions.

If you are feeling uncomfortable about someone’s behavior and your relationship with them because of their toxicity, it is time to set your boundaries. Boundaries are the emotional barriers that you set for yourself and how you want to engage with someone in both physical and emotional ways. The boundaries you define for any relationships will determine how you want to connect and grow your relationship with people. Setting healthy boundaries can feel awkward at first, but it can be one of the most rewarding and fulling things you can do for yourself. Know that by setting clear boundaries, you are setting yourself and your relationships up for success. You can create a boundaries journal, map, or playbook, where you reflect on what you feel comfortable with about a relationship, what you expect from your relationships, what they can expect from you, and how your values align with the people in your life.

When you establish and stick to your boundaries, you will feel more empowered. You can stick to your boundaries by going back to your boundaries journal and reflecting on what you wrote, by listening to your inner-knowing or intuition, by being clear with others that push your boundaries or attempt to gaslight you, by feeling okay with saying “no” when asked to do something you do not feel comfortable with, and by making yourself a

priority. Setting boundaries with a toxic person begins with learning what your own boundaries are and sticking to them.

Do’s

Always Wear SPF

This remains the cardinal rule of healthy skin, regardless of the weather, place, skin concern or work schedule. A broad spectrum sunscreen will always be the strongest weapon in any person’s skincare arsenal. Contrary to popular belief, UV damage can occur indoors as well. Unless it is a room without any windows, sunlight can penetrate through glass and damage the skin just as much as it does outdoors. More importantly, ‘blue light’ emitted by digital devices such as phones, TVs and laptops can cause damage to the skin too. Blue light is known to mimic natural sunlight at lower concentrations and can speed up signs of ageing, cause skin to look dull and increase pigmentation as well. Finding a sunscreen with an SPF above 30, protection from UVA and UVB rays and the added benefit of blue light protection is a must.

WORK FROM HOME MIGHT ACTUALLY BE DAMAGING YOUR SKIN Here’s what you should do and avoid - By Romita Mazumdar, Founder, Foxtale No one ever imagined being stuck indoors for so long. COVID-19 has shaken the world up, but its impact on mental and physical health and consequently skin health is not discussed as often. While one would imagine that b’eing able to cook all meals at home, avoiding all the environmental stressors that come with being outdoors and avoiding the sun can fix all skin woes, that is far from the case. Working from home can often be equally detrimental to the skin as commuting to and from an office. Changes to lifestyle and stress are the biggest culprits contributing to

March - April ‘22

skin damage during this time. Stress can cause inflammation leading to breakouts, irritation and overall dull and tired looking skin. Lack of exercise, changes to diet or sleep patterns and being indoors all the time can make skin appear tired and uncared for as well. While you may be less exposed to the sun, this can create a deficiency in Vitamin D. Most importantly, staring at a screen for a majority of the day accelerates fine lines, wrinkles and hyperpigmentation on the skin’s surface. As work from home becomes a fairly permanent part of any workplace, it is important to take a few steps to assess skin health and how it can be altered to adapt to this new normal.

Do’s

Wash Your Face

Even staying indoors can cause dirt, grime and oil to accumulate on the face - leading to breakouts, congested skin and blackheads. It is important to cleanse twice a day, although even once in the evening is okay for very dry skin. Cleansing thoroughly not only helps to keep the skin from breaking out but it also makes one feel fresh and ready for the day.

Do’s

Treat Yourself

The biggest benefit of skincare is the ritual itself. The only thing that separates the ritual from the task is the time at hand. Working from home means being able to put on a face mask at 4pm without any questions asked. Or sitting with a hair mask on at lunchtime. Combat stress by indulging in skincare and going all out with fun products that a working week pre-COVID could never have accommodated for.

Do’s

Drink Enough Water

It sounds redundant, but hydrated skin is happy skin, anywhere in the world. Staying at home may limit water intake, causing the body to be dehydrated along with the skin. Drinking 2 litres of water a day will ensure that the skin is glowing and clear too.

March - April ‘22

Don’t

Skip The Actives

The lack of routine created by working from home can sometimes make people lazy about their skincare routine too. When there is nowhere to go, the incentivization behind a 5 step skincare routine is far less. However, this should not be the case. All skincare actives need to work consistently and over time to show the best results. Antioxidants like Vitamin C, anti-ageing miracle workers like Retinol and exfoliators like AHAs and BHAs must be used consistently in order for skin to show long lasting results. While breaks from skincare are allowed and encouraged, they should be taken in a way that doesn’t throw previous progress for a toss.

Don’t

Skip The Sunlight

While this sounds like a contradiction to using sunscreen, there are some essential nutrients in sunlight that the body needs to absorb. UVB rays from the sun create Vitamin D in the body that helps with bone health and mental health. These rays don’t penetrate through glass and can’t be found indoors. A lack of Vitamin D can also cause the skin to be red and itchy and prone to dryness.
