une month is extremely hot and at times we all become restless because of Summer Season. India is popularly known for its diversity in cultures, languages, and climates. While most seasons are celebrated and thoroughly relished, summers can be quite inconvenient and unpleasant. The scorching heat during the summers can be quite difficult to deal with. Though summers aren’t always bad as it significantly contributes to the growth of crops. Most crops are prepared in the summer, but it can be quite intolerable for humans and animals. I eagerly look forward to Monsoon after experiencing the summer heat. There’s something special in the rains, it is filled with the tranquility that suppresses negative emotions and brings peace. Besides the calmness that the monsoon brings, truly enjoyable foods are typically accompanied in Indian households that have now turned into rituals practiced commonly. For instance, what’s rain without a cup of warm tea and assorted Pakoras on the balcony enjoying the rain as it falls in perfect synchronization? There are many reasons to love the monsoon season; the peaceful sleep while it pours outside, the enchanting sound of raindrops falling on the surface, the air filled with petrichor after the rain swiftly wets the dry soil, the unfeigned delight of warm foods, and so much more. Apart from the personal relishes, rain is also immensely essential for farmers as it accelerates the growth of crops, providing us food to eat. The July issue covers all aspects of the monsoon season with articles ranging from beauty to health. My favorite picks from this edition are, ‘Caring for your child during the monsoon’, ‘Deal with monsoon frizziness with Enns closet’, Skincare essentials, and more. On the cover of this monsoon edition, you will meet Sriti Shaw, who is a dreamer, achiever, and inspiration. Sriti is a model, actress, and entrepreneur by profession and believes that she has much more to achieve in life. G-Town Society is delighted to introduce Sriti Shaw in this edition and share her success story with you. Find out more about her in our exclusive cover story. At G-Town, feedback from our valuable readers is highly appreciated. Please feel free to share your feedback at editor.gtown@gmail. com. You can also find us on Instagram and Facebook.

RANG BY QBIK Collection Note

In these times of uncertainty and strife, Qbik has turned to inspiration in colour! Adding much needed joie de vivre to our festive wardrobes with a collection named simply “Rang”.

R

ang is always sided with the festival of Holi, which communicates not one, but numerous colours, with this line the brand has interpreted celebration through myriad shades including black & white. Our cultural heritage has always attached significance to colours, tying it to emotions, festivals and occasions. No moment in an Indian household exists that can’t be tied into a colour. Be it the vermillion red for a bride, serene whites of austerity or moody blues for savan! Tying this with the love for Indian handicrafts, the collection is based on the marriage of two distinct techniques of India; that is Benarasi and Bandhej. Designer Vrinda Sachdev has given her own spin to this collection through the use of hand woven banarasi fabric further tie dyed with the bandhani technique creating an explosion of colour. Vivid colours such as fuchsia pink, bright red, effervescent yellow, evergreens, moody mustard and purple

go back to the origins of the age-old colour wheel of our country. Avante garde silhouettes make this collection modernesque with experimental blouses on lehengas, one shouldered tops for shararas, crowd favourite draped sarees and kaftans, all timeless along with a hint of a contemporary touch. The kaftans, airy as they come, also add a laid- back dimension to the collection making it go from mehandi to a beach resort. With a blend of exquisite fabrics like Raw Silk, Georgette, Organza and tulle along with French knot techniques, a variety of sequins, dapka, and beads are used in making the alluring and classic floral artworks embroideries of the collection. Creating something for each bride or her family is the key to this collection. Which sees a further exploration in the form of handmade, embroidered jewellery through a fitting collaboration with Fooljhadi. The line has a wide array of earrings, maatha pattis, chokers, necklaces and even mask chains for the modern bride. Extensive use of embroidery with sea water pearls and semi-precious stones adds that extra dazzle when matched with the perfect ensemble from the new collection. https://www.instagram.com/qbikofficial/ https://qbik.in

ROAD AHEAD FOR THE

INDIAN JEWELRY INDUSTRY By: Mr Raunak Parekh Managing Director, Parekh Ornaments

C

ovid-19 has i m p a c t e d everything and has been responsible for the way we look at things now. Be it shopping, working, the pandemic has taken a heavy toll on our day-to-day activities. Although countries across the world are doing their best to make things work, the pandemic has taken a blow at the jewellery industry. The jewellery industry also has had its share of ups and downs during this pandemic. Like any other industry, even the business of the jewellery industry has been impacted severely. However, this is a temporary phase and I do hope this will end soon but we also have to wait and see how the market will respond. So the road ahead for the industry seems to look positive as we all have now come a long way. Things have slowly started to pick up and I strongly

18

feel that the future of the industry looks promising. Gold has always been considered an important investment, and has been proved during the pandemic. And as times have changed, we have to see that our jewellery industry has been a part of a lot of trends as well. Jewellery has become an important part of not only special occasions like weddings, but days like Akshay Tritiya, Raksha Bandhan, are incomplete without jewellery. With lockdown and few restrictions still in focus, people will spend more on jewellery as compared to travel and lifestyle shopping. Jewellery has always been an important form of investment for people, even if the economy is not doing well. The upcoming wedding season will also see a rise in the gold rates. However, I don’t feel people restricting themselves when it comes to jewellery buying. Post the lockdown, we have July 2021

seen some really good improvement in the overall sector. Buying gold jewellery requires both emotional and rational intent. Considering the situation right now, I feel that purchasing jewellery is still thought of as a positive investment by most of our customers. The market has started to open up and this is a positive sign for everyone. Slowly and steadily, we can see a rise in sales, also because people have not been able to purchase jewellery now for quite some time. A lot of this rise in sales can also be attributed to the weddings that were postponed due to the pandemic induced lockdown. Weddings in India are also a lot about status, and this is the reason jewellery

19

buying will see a rise in weddings also. People who were not able to make the purchase at that time will be doing it now, hence the rise in sales. The buying today is more need based rather than indulgence based. The purchase for wedding jewellery seems to be unaffected as people might not look at celebrating at a big banquet hall due to the restrictions. But the auspiciousness attached to the gold jewellery still remains in the heart of our customers. I also feel that brides today are personally involved when it comes to purchasing jewellery for their wedding and will surely buy jewellery more as compared to previous years. Brides still consider an investment in gold a safe haven for them.

A very big thank you to social media as well. Social media has played a very important role during this pandemic. Jewellery brands who have been active on social media seem to be benefitting in this situation as this lockdown has made each one of us a digital person. The pandemic has also played an important part when it comes to various digital innovations that we have seen in the jewellery industry, especially the technological innovations like the virtual try-ons. Technology will play a significant role in all the jewellery purchases that will happen in the future and we at Parekh Ornaments are all set for it.

CARING FOR YOUR CHILD During The Monsoon

By Dr Shalini Chico

Senior Consultant Neonatologist and Pediatrician, Fortis La Femme Hospital, Richmond Road, Bangalore.

T

he only downside to this season is that it brings with it, several communicable illnesses; be it a) mosquito borne like dengue, chikungunya, malaria, b) food and waterborne illnesses like typhoid and hepatitis 22

The monsoon season brings with it a refreshing break from the scorching heat, invigorating both young and old, with children running in the rain, splashing in puddles, making paper boats, and the whole family enjoying piping hot snacks and tea while relishing the scent of the first showers.

A, c) airborne like influenza and other viral respiratory infections, and not to forget the threat of covid 19 still looming large ! Let’s look at a few ways in which one can safely enjoy this season with their children.

1. Food and water – Ensure that your drinking water is safe, as far as possible use boiled water, especially for infants below 1 yr. Avoid eating uncooked food like chutneys or salads, and fresh juices /water from outside. Wash fruits and vegetables well before consumption. July 2021

2. Hand and personal hygiene–Wash your hands and feet well after having stepped out, whether it is just a short walk to the neighborhood grocery store or playing in the rain in your own compound. Nails to be kept trimmed and clean at all times. 3. Vaccination–Ensure that your child has had their yearly booster of influenza vaccination, which is preferably given during the pre-monsoon/monsoon season. Influenza (also called the seasonal flu) and Covid 19 can have a similar presentation with fever, sore throat or cough , making it difficult to differentiate . Hence it is strongly advised to make sure that children above the age of 6 months are vaccinated annually with the influenza vaccine . Co-infection with covid19 and influenza can present with more severe illness.Until the time that covid vaccination is rolled out for children in India, the next best option would be to get the flu shot for your child. Meanwhile ensure that every adult is adequately vaccinatedfor covid. Breastfeeding mothers are strongly urged to get vaccinated with the covid vaccine 23

as well, so that the infant gets their immunity from the breastmilk. Typhoid and Hepatitis A are also vaccine-preventable diseases. Check with your pediatrician whether your child has been appropriately vaccinated for the same. 4. Mosquitoes – tend to breed especially this season. Keep them at bay by using a natural mosquito repellant, keep doors and windows appropriately meshed. Avoid keep-

ing empty pots or other areas around the house where rain water can stagnate and act as a breeding ground for mosquito larvae. 5. Clothing – ensure that your baby is well covered with ironed and dry cotton clothing, and head protected from the cold . However avoid excessively warm clothes ; excessive sweat and damp clothes can predispose to fungal infections. Avoid using diapers for long periods of time, use cloth or change diapers frequently. Avoid wet wipes, while at home, cleanthe baby s nappy area with water and thoroughly wipe dry. Avoid staying wet after having played in the rain, ensure your child has a warm bath and is adequately dried. 6. Fix those leaks–Moisture which accumulates from leaky walls and roofs, can cause mold formation and can predispose to a flare up of allergies and asthma. As the threat of the third wave of covid looms around the corner, let us not forget the basic principles of using masks and regular handwashing, avoiding crowds and public spaces. Let not the relaxation of lockdowns allow us to let down our guard. Continue to stay safe. July 2021

An Expert Guide To Prevent Vaginal Infection During The

MONSOON

By Dr Deepthi Ashwin

MBBS, MS(OBG), Senior Obstetrician and Gynecologist, Fortis La Femme Hospital, Richmond Road, Bengaluru

W

ith the cold weather, immunity can be lowered making women susceptible to various vaginal infections and a urinary tract infection. Added to the vaginal fluid, the humidity from the atmosphere can cause accelerated bacterial or fungal infection. Vaginal candidiasis is the most common infection experienced by women during the monsoons. Some of the common symptoms of vaginal infection are:  Rashes in the private parts  Vaginal/ vulval itching  Vaginal discharge  Redness/ swelling around the private parts  Vaginal soreness  Burning sensation during intercourse or while urinating

The Monsoon Season Is Associated With Romance Rejuvenation And Respite From The Scorching Heat Of The Summer. It Brings Along Greenery, Cool Breeze And Cold Weather. Along With All That’s Pleasant And Refreshing About Rainy Days Comes Certain Health Issues. 24

dry the area, plain toilet paper should do. Pubic hair plays a protective role. It can prevent the spread of bacteria and reduce the risk of an infection. It also reduces friction during sexual intercourse and prevents transmission of bacteria. It is important to urinate before and after intercourse to reduce the growth of bacteria and prevent infections. Clean the genital area too after intercourse. Avoid using female hygiene washes. Wear breathable clothes: cotton underwear is the best choice to prevent vaginal infections. Tight underwear can reduce airflow and increases irritation and risk of developing rashes. Breathable underwear keeps the genitals airy and helps it stay dry. Avoid wearing tight lowers or shorts or skinny jeans as they reduce ventilation and retain sweat

in the vaginal areas and can lead to rashes and a vaginal infection. Do not wear wet clothes for a long time as they increase the moisture levels and increase the incidence of skin infections and rashes. It also acts like a breeding ground for organisms and increases the chances of a vaginal infection. Maintain good menstrual hygiene: change the sanitary pads every 4 hours irrespective of the soakage and tampons every 2 hours. Change the menstrual cups every 8 hours. Do not use scented pads. Pads in general can increase the incidence of rashes due to increased humidity and can cause vaginal infections. Tampons can cause vaginal dryness and increase the incidence of an infection. Menstrual cups should be used whenever possible.

Stay well hydrated: during monsoons, water and salts are lost rapidly from our body which can lead to irritation and a burning sensation in the genital region. Make sure that you are consuming at least about 2 to 3 litres of water everyday which helps in maintaining the vaginal pH and reduces the risk of an infection. Staying well hydrated also keeps urinary infections at bay. Eat curds to maintain the vaginal pH Using condoms can protect against infections. To conclude, identify your individual risk factors and make lifestyle changes to reduce the risks of vaginal infections. Do not self medicate and see your doctor who can diagnose and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

Prevention of vaginal infection: Bacterial and fungal infections impacting the genital area though common during monsoons is certainly not unavoidable. Few tips to help are Maintain good personal hygiene: clean your private area with lukewarm water and avoid any fragrant soaps. Clean the genital area twice a day. Do not douche the vagina. Douching involves cleaning the vagina from inside which destroys the protective bacteria too.Wipe and keep the genital area dry after urinating. Clean the genital region from front to back to prevent the bacteria from the anus from entering thevagina. Avoid using wet wipes with chemicals to July 2021

The year 2017 was a milestone in her life as things started taking a concrete shape. She was filled with a sudden urge to learn more about divine energy and the cosmos, thereby acquiring more modalities. Dr. Ayshna helped many people in the process and came to the epiphany that her Remedies have worked. They were beneficial for most of her family members and

friends, and that is how her page “magical remedies” started. The journey of Magical remedies is indeed a magic as despite being just 20 months old, the work and the remedies extended by Dr. Ayshna have been nothing short of miracle for her clients. She said that “In such a short span, by grace of God, I have transformed many lives, and received their testimonies and success stories. She continues that “My faith in Lord is so evident that it is working in people’s life. I am so blessed that God is using me to transform and spread happiness in people’s life. Ayshna’s esoteric venture has garnered phenomenal positive re-

views and she feels utterly overwhelmed by the love and warmth of her clients. Although she has lots of challenges and obstacles in her personal life, but these things make her strong and better person. “ If I want to bring change in someone’s life, it is very much necessary to first deal with myself and find peace and connection with my Lord”, Said Ayshna. She further said that these challenges make her more compassionate and empathetic human being. This may be God’s teaching so that I can relate to my clients. Recently she has been awarded by G-Town as best Healer 2021.

F

ood is an emotion wherein we have associated different food items with specific moods like happiness, sadness, boredom etc. It soothes, and it satiates. A common thread that binds India together is its love and passion for food. For generations, India has witnessed how people bond over a conversation across the dining table in marriages, celebrations or other social gatherings. Millenials and GenZ too are following this trend 52

in their own way by extending their love for food in their dating bios. The emerging trend of mentioning food in the dating bios can also help break the ice with their Crush. Indians bond more with each other when they realise their common interest of enjoying gastronomic delicacies. Moreover, there is an ageold Indian saying; that food is the way to reach someone’s heart. Especially during the lockdown, when there was a surge in online dating, people started mentioning

their favourite restaurants and cafes in their bios. They look forward to sharing a meal with their crushes in those places. These food preferences and restaurants stems from the notion of how food brings people and culture together. happn wanted to understand which are the top food items that the individuals enjoy. Based on those findings, a cup of coffee topped the list. Enjoying a cup of coffee on the first date has always been a classic. Moreover, there is a July 2021

sense of bonding associated with it, wherein people tend to have a heart-to-heart conversation sitting in a café over a steaming cup of coffee. Following coffee was the favourite drink of India-Chai! While the whole world loves the Indian milk-based Chai, it has a special place in the heart of lovers. Apart from this, Pizza, Chocolate, Maggi, Sushi and Dosa are the favourites in the dating bios. If you’re a food lover, here are the best words to find love :  Butter Chicken  Ramen  Chole Bhature  Idli  Chaat  Golgappe  Red Sauce Pasta While it is unique to understand the significance of food in the dating bios, the notion of food and romance clubbed together has quite been there. Interestingly, the first date or even binge-watching with your partner has been centred around food. The first date is based on a cuisine that both you and your Crush are fond of. On the other hand, letting your partner decide on the meal for a Netflix watch party is considered a romantic gesture in Gen Z. 53

Further research made by happn on the subject found that 55% of users enjoyed cooking and had some delicious recipes in their food kitty. And surprisingly, both men and women have added their love for cooking in their bios. Highlighting how you have a favourite dish and are ready to cook it for the right person does speak how committed you are to the process of online dating. Because it is like you are opening your world to someone and giving them a taste of it, literally! So, the next time you come across a bio with all these amazing food items and dishes, give it a thought because food speaks volumes about your personality. July 2021

An Insight Into Business

SUSTAINABILITY DURING COVID 19

Sargam Dhawan Bhayana Director at Tressmart Marketing Pvt. Ltd.

Sargam Dhawan Bhayana, Director at Tressmart Marketing Pvt. Ltd., is an ambitious and relentless 26-yearold with big dreams and a zeal to accomplish them. She was brought up surrounded by a family of entrepreneurs, which later encouraged her to start her own line of business. Upon her will for a fresh and more independent line, she invented Tressmart in 2017 - when she was only 22 years old.

T

ressmart Marketing Pvt. Ltd. is one of the leading beauty appliances distribution companies with associations with various prominent brands like DAFNI, StylPro & Stylsmile, and MakeUp Eraser. In her initial years, she gained an opportunity to meet with the investors and promoters of DAFNI, the original hair straightening brush, which she went on to launch very successfully in India. 54

Tressmart was launched as a digital platform synonymous with quality and luxury hair care products. It has seen a growth rate of 138% in 2020 versus the previous year and online growth of 1120% in January 2021 in only 7 months. Known for its excellence in customer service, pre, during, and post-sales, its extensive market reach, creative marketing solutions and in-depth knowledge of its market segment and target audience, Tressmart has created a reputation

as India’s premier marketplace for hair care. Tressmart, with a host of brands, has revolutionized at-home hair care in India. How has Covid affected the business? To meet the challenges posed by the Covid pandemic, businesses all around the world have had to react in a very agile manner. There are many lessons that have been learned and unlearned during the pandemic that are now being July 2021

used by business leaders the world over for future emergencies and geographical pandemic waves. The plan by everyone involves effectively capitalising on opportunities that are arising post Covid recovery as the markets return to a more stable time. The beauty, skin care and hair care industry is one that has been seriously shocked by the Covid-19 crisis. Beauty stores and salons world over have closed down as they have been unable to sustain themselves in this unreliable environment. Thousands of jobs are created directly and indirectly because of the beauty industry, and industry leaders are trying their best to ensure their companies survive. Unfortunately, consumers have started spending less on beauty products, mainly colour cosmetics as they are not going out of their homes as compared to their previous usage. Given the realities of working from home, social distancing, and mask wearing, people are not focussing as much on wearing makeup. But there has been a massive increase in people spending on skin care, hair care and bath and body products as they now have the time for self care and pampering. Pre Covid-19, in-store shopping of beauty, skin care and hair care products was the main way people shopped. Whilst a lot of these stores still exist, their customer traffic has reduced dramatically in the past year. Research shows that the return to instore beauty shopping will be slow and staggered. Across the globe, consumers are switching to online shopping for practically everything. The beauty industry is known for 55

its ever evolving nature. Before the pandemic no one could imagine that online beauty product sales would overtake the in store experience for customers. People have pretty much been forced to embrace eCommerce in a big way, be it in the beauty, fitness, food or clothes industry. On our own platform at Tressmart, we have a much bigger online presence than we did pre Covid-19. We have upped our game by giving our customers a more in-depth look at all our products by including videos, very sharp visuals and customer reviews so they don’t have to bank on in-store testers like they did in the past. We have ensured that our customers get a comprehensive knowledge of products through our social media posts. We have collaborated with experts in the field to inform our customers of the benefits and uses of our different products. We

have had to replace our live events with virtual events to launch new products and keep our customers connected and engaged. There has been a lot of disruption in the supply chain as beauty, skin care and hair care manufacturers are facing supply interruptions as this industry is global and a lot of ingredients come from the world over and the geographical impact of the pandemic as well as lockdowns in different parts of the world have been a particular challenge this past year. Despite logistical changes and challenges that have impacted the launch of a lot of our products, we have tried our level best to stick to our timelines as far as delivery to our customers is concerned. Research shows that buyers now prefer digital services to human engagement even after lockdowns have ended. As customers buy big online,

we have introduced live chats so our customers can ask our team of experts any product related questions. Pre Covid-19 customer care was mostly for delivery, exchange and return related concerns, now it’s about people asking questions related to specific products and how the experts can recommend products related to their specific hair and skin related issues. Online sales and promotions are another way we have used to retain and attract new customers. Everyone likes a good deal and we have managed to delight our customers with these promotions. So yes, there have been some teething problems whilst developing our eCommerce ventures, but we are learning and evolving everyday. Work from home wasn’t easy initially, but as it has become the new normal we are accepting it more naturally now and getting more efficient as the days go by. Not just the beauty business, but all businesses have changed and evolved during the pandemic. And things look like they will remain the same for a while, so we have our thinking caps on so we can evolve, innovate and improve as each day goes by. Where do you see the brands in five years? Even as the economy dips and rises the world over, the beauty business is more than likely to hold its own. Customers will continue to indulge in little luxuries that give them an emotional life truly. What is more relaxing than a little self pampering? Beauty is an ever changing and evolving industry and of course every brand will have their own growth. There will be plenty of winners and losers in this game as our thought processes evolve. The definition of beauty changes as men and women view the role of beauty differently as time passes. 56

SAY CHEERS TO

That Deep Routed

Friendship With In the next five years the focus will change a lot to natural, organic, clean, cruelty free products. It will be about sustainability, decreasing one’s carbon footprint. Today, people read labels on products and they have the know-how on which ingredients are harmful for the environment and their bodies. Using recycled and recyclable materials for packaging will be the new normal in the next few years. In the next few years, we will see the launch of some very innovative products that are relevant to our beauty requirements today and in the future. We see ourselves collaborating with more experts and influencers as no product can be sold today without a lot of detailing about their pros and cons. We see the launch of upcoming, smaller, high end luxury brands where the focus is on exclusivity and quality in the near future. What steps should be taken by an entrepreneur to sustain themselves in the industry? In this ever changing industry, any entrepreneur should have the ability to incorporate adaptive leadership skills. Change is the only constant and this has been reinstated in the past year. The people who were unable to change their business practic-

es have been unable to sustain themselves during and after the pandemic. The focus today has to be on a strong social media and digital presence as everyone from generation x to generation z to the millennials are technologically savvy and keen to understand and study a product before buying. To remain relevant in this ever changing world one has to actually treat a customer as king. One cannot compromise on the customer getting the best experience and high quality customer service needs to be permanent. A good entrepreneur should not be frightened of taking risks or of occasional failures. One does fall occasionally, but one has to learn to get up on one’s feet and just try harder and use the lessons learnt whilst failing to their advantage. Another important step to be taken is to pick the right team. Take all the resources and time needed to discover the ideal match for each role. This is a very crucial step in any flield’s business growth strategy. Reinvention is also important, if a business strategy doesn’t work, be certain to reinvent it. Develop new services if your existing ones are outdated or don’t work. Truly be a leader and the sky’s the limit! July 2021

hat is better than having a group of friends? Having a group of friends over for a round of beer!Pandemic has created a lot of distance and separation among peers. Whilst the whole world has shifted online, gone virtual, there is this constant need to keep some essence of life real. The casual ritual of hanging out at frequent spots getting debarred, the destressing element of sitting for a brief on everyone’s life has gone poof. Albeit, this friendship day, look out for ways to get back to oversharing and over caring over online meet ups with those who matter and are always there for you. The best way to celebrate friendships this year is to call that friend, arrange that rendezvous and sit down for a night of chit-chat, roasting and sharing over cans of Medusa. The plan of attack should be a six-pack Medusa, close-packed friends and a night of shared memories. You can unfriend the distance and zoom up your friends for a Medusa Party! Call that friend who taught you how to crack open a beer without spilling for the first time and thank them for it with a six-pack Medusa cans Price – INR 100. R

eminiscing the traditional devotional music through a melodious modern voice has created audiences of all ages, millennials to oldaged fans, tune into Shivali’s playlist. Shivali was the youngest and only artist to be signed by the Sony BMG group for Bhajans and has released two devotional albums, The Bhajan Project and Urban Temple. Shivali was nominated for 2 Global Indian Music Awards at the age of 23 and was listed as the Top 25 under 25 South Asian Artists in England. She has performed globally for both corporate, public and private concerts. Shivali also holds a diploma in acting, Kathak and ballet. Shivali is not only a talented musician, but she is also a spiritual urban yogi and a motivational speaker. Born in London, after graduating in Economics & Philosophy, she left her job at an investment bank to pursue her artistic passions. After holding the title of the youngest devotional singer at the age of 22, she is now setting the stage to be one of the youngest female Indian Motivational Speakers. Here we are sharing Shivali Bhammer’s picks from her top bhajans on World Music Day that she feels one should reminisce about in times like today, because devotional music provides the soul a sense of calm and happiness. Getting devotional! 59

My top three from my first album, The Bhajan Project, are: Jag Mein Sundar Hain do Naam, the Hanuman Chalisa and the Gayatri Mantra. Jag Mein Sundar Hain Do Naam was beautifully sung by Anup Jalota Ji and he very graciously gave us the rights to reproduce it, it was nominated for best debut song at the Global Indian Music Awards however that isn’t really why it’s special. There is a very universal message to this bhajan, which is that despite the many names we have for God, or perhaps we don’t even believe in God but believe more in consciousness/ prana, the names are equally beautiful. When I listen to this bhajan, I remind myself that I come from a philosophy that doesn’t seek to divide but through its many manifestations of deities, it has illustrated that Godliness can be found within everything. When I was a child my great-grandmother (Mota Ba) would insist that we recite the Hanuman Chalisa every time we were in the car and my father has always told me that the Hanuman Chalisa has protected him – and I have seen that. In such turbulent times we really need to tap into our inner strength, Hanuman is the ultimate friend and devotee. My rendition of the Hanuman Chalisa is pretty fast and upbeat because it is designed for you to be able to listen to it anytime anywhere, even if you’re running, or to help your kids learn it since it is rather catchy. The Gayatri Mantra was written by Sage Vishvamitra. The Sage was born as King Kaushik but upon seeing Sage

Vasistha’s power, he gave up his kingdom and decided he too could be a Brahmarishi. However since he was not born into that role, it wasn’t considered possible. Through Vishvamatra’s sheer persistence, effort and self-belief, he finally achieved his goal and was given the name Vishvamitra (friend to all) by Saraswati Ji. The Gayatri Mantragives us the power to acknowledge our own vital energy. It will help the listener feel calm and diffuse any negative thought patterns you may have. When you listen to the Gaytri Mantra try and identify with the sun and infinite light. Some bonus favourites! On my second album, Urban Temple; my top three are Shivoham, Aum Namah Bhagavate Vasudevaya, and Vaishnava Janato. Shivoham will remind you to be in a state of meditation and poise like Lord Shiva. The Vishnu mantra will enable you to surrender and tap into devotional love, and Vaishnava Janato will remind you of your higher ideals and morals. Humanity needs all of us to pull together. There is no one who is above us, nor beneath us. You may feel differences with others due to upbringing, culture, religion, etc. but these are very superficial. Vaishnava Janato reminds us to be compassionate towards everyone. The beauty of bhajans is that they are a source and force of positivity. They speak only of good things, and when you listen to that, even if you are not registering it, it will seep into your subconscious and fill you with love. July 2021

wned and operated by parent company Bloombay Enterprises LLP, The Belgian Waffle Co. was founded by Shrey Aggarwal, a businessman by profession, but a true-blue foodie at heart. His wife and co-founder Alisha Shirodkar Aggarwal’s marketing and brand expertise also play a key role in the brand’s success story. The first speciality waffle QSR in the country, The Belgian Waffle Co introduced the product format to the typical Indian consumer and has since been a leader in the category. The brand pioneered and introduced the concept of on-the-go waffles to India with it’s signature “Waffwich”, a term it coined to represent the waffle sandwich. The Waffwich has really taken off in a big way since then and created a growing category in the Indian market. From their one-store beginning in Mumbai in 2015, the speciality waffle franchise has beaten the odds to mushroom into a brand 67

with a phenomenal national presence in more than 75 cities! In addition to several store locations in metros like Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Pune, Kolkata, Bengaluru, The Belgian Waffle Co. has also found tremendous popularity in the country’s tier-2 and tier-3 cities, including Meerut, Agra, Gwalior, Ujjain, Amravati and Rajahmundry. What’s more, they’ve recently expanded to open in Srinagar, and to international shores with outlets in Nepal, with Bangladesh in the offing as well.

What sets The Belgian Waffle Co. apart is their focus on providing customers with a superlative dessert experience with every visit. Their waffles are freshly baked, hot and crispy and come in a variety of (100% eggless) batters and premium fillings. For patrons in a mood to experiment, their menu also offers Pancakes, Waffle Cakes, Ice Cream Waffwiches and beverages in a variety of mouth-watering flavours. Their most recent addition is the Dutch inspired Stroopwafel which is two thin crispy layers of waffle biscuit with a generous amount of chocolate filling sandwiched in the middle!
