DEPARTMENT

TUES. - SAT. • 10:30 AM - 4:30 PM On behalf of the Board of Directors, we’d like to thank the homeowners who attended the 2022 Annual Meeting on July 16th. For the first time since 2018, we had a quorum and were able to conduct official business at the meeting. We felt that Mount Airy Lodge provided a great space for us and have booked it again for our 2023 Annual Meeting next July. We will also make sure there is better signage directing our members to our meeting space. We truly appreciate our homeowners that took time out of their busy schedules to attend. By now you’ve seen the construction at the pool and the playground area. For sure, this is an exciting time at Pocono Farms. Our management team has been working closely along with our ad-hoc Pool Committee to keep the project moving along on schedule. We’re all looking forward to seeing the progress updates that will be sent to the community as the project continues. Hopefully Mother Nature will give us a break with a late Fall / early Spring and our new pool and splash pad for the younger residents will be ready for a Memorial Day Weekend grand opening. We would like to remind you that now is the time to volunteer for a Pocono Farms committee. Committees run from August through July each year. Committee descriptions can be found on our website, along with applications. Residents can also get more information and applications from our Member Services office. Volunteering for a committee is a great way to have your voice heard and be a part of what makes this community run. Tobyhanna, PA

WEATHERVANE SEPTEMBER 2022 5 From The General Manager BY DAVE TIMKO, CMCA, AMS, General Manager – PFCCA, Inc. 2022 BOARD OFMEETINGSDIRECTORS LOCATION: COMMUNITY ROOM BELOW THE CLUBHOUSE ALL MEETING TIMES ARE 7PM

The work began on August 2nd with the mobilization of some of the equipment to be used along with placing some of the erosion and sediment controls in place.

Our Communication/Website Coordinator – Eric, will be updating photos to our website for you to stay up to date on the renovation process.

Finally, as we enter the favorite season of the year for many, please stay updated with the many activities and events still happening around Pocono Farms. For the management and staff, this time of year represents budget season. This is when we review our historical data, and current/future trends to put together the following year’s operating, reserve, and capital budgets. It is a lengthy process with a lot of MemberapplicationtousuallyinvolvedifPleasebudgets.ultimatelypriorCommitteeinputspreadsheets,discussionsandformtheFinanceandBoard,totheBoardadoptingthedonotforgetthatyouhavetimetogetonacommittee,onehouramonth,pleasefilloutyouronlineoratourServicesoffice.

First, I would like to thank those members who attended the PFCCA, Inc. annual meeting held at Mt. Airy Resort on July 16th. As many of you are aware, we have not had an annual meeting since 2018 due to either a lack of quorum or the pandemic. In lieu of struggling to find a place to host our meeting each year and based on the positive feedback from those that attended the meeting this year, we booked the room for next year at Mt. Airy. The 2023 annual meeting date is scheduled for Saturday July 15, at 10am. The notice will be sent out next year as required within the PFCCA, Inc. governing documents. Secondly, as you are reading this article, we should be nearing the Labor Day weekend. The school students will be back to school in most cases, and we should be closing out the first month of the outdoor pool renovation project.

Now, the kids have a responsibility too. Try not to walk alone if that’s possible. The bigger the group the better. And of course, never take a ride from someone you don’t know. Keep to the side of the road facing traffic. As it gets darker, wear lighter colors or carry a light of some kind with you. Be aware getting off the bus. No one is supposed to pass a stopped bus, but we’ve seen it happen. Crime watch drivers try to be near bus stops when they can. Just another set of eyes if needed. We try to be on the streets the kids are walking to and from the bus, but it’s not always possible. We are still looking for a few more volunteers. The response has been underwhelming. In June our drivers spent about 128 hours on the road. If you can spare 2 hours or more a month, call the office at 570-894-4435 or leave a message for Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034.

Lastly and on a more personal note, I would like to say thank you to all the people who reached out to me during my recuperation from surgery, or upon my return to work. It was very touching and appreciated.

As always should you have any questions or concerns, we are just a phone call away.

Neighborhood Watch BY RUSS KELLY Public Safety BY ARTIE FURMAN - CMCA, AMS

Where does the time go? September is here. Summer vacation is over, and the kids are back to school. Along with that comes the school buses and all those bus stops. Please be mindful of where you park and to not block the roadways. You must leave room for people to get through. We also receive many complaints about speeding vehicles. I am not passing the buck when I say this, so please try to understand. I cannot pull over a speeding car. I simply do not have that authority. Only the police can do those things. What I can do is take the information you give me and pass it to the police. Many times, they send an officer to sit by a stop sign or intersection to catch those parties involved.

Remember when we were kids and the summer vacation from school seemed so long. I seem to remember by the time labor day arrived, I was actually looking forward to getting back to school and seeing all my friends that didn’t live close by. I do believe most of us wore ourselves out in the summer and were anxious to slow down a little. Now we participate in the labor day ritual, take our last trip to the shore or the lake, and run to the store for the last-minute things we forgot to get for the kids for school. For those of us that no longer have kids going to school, we just sit back and remember the chaos that back-to-school week would create. Kind of miss that forthingsmaytheneedfootballmostlythoseStartsometimes.lookingthroughwinterclothesbins,lookingforthesweatshirtthatyoutobewearingwhenseasonstartsup.Itnotbehot,butsomearejustimportantthetruefan.

But now with the kids going back to school, there are things that have to be said to both kids and parents. Driving through the farms when the kids are going to or from the bus stops, we have to be aware that at anytime one of the kids will be walking in the road or unexpectedly jumping into a traffic lane to pick up a ball or dropped book etc: so, we have to take it slow and anticipate a possible jump into the road. We have watched the daily contest of the parent getting a spot nearest the bus stop. We have seen this getting so bad in the past that a bus couldn’t make a turn onto the adjoining road because cars were parked on both sides of the road, and right up to the corner. Reminders seem to fade rapidly. Local police will monitor a site if it is requested by the administration. I remember a mother driving to the bus stop to pick up her young son. They lived about 300 feet from the bus stop. Seemed a little over cautious at the time.

How did September get here so fast?

The members should be aware of a grand experiment which has been underway over the past several months. While it may not impact the majority of the membership it will benefit our most valued members. You may have noticed one of the Family Tee markers out in the fairways. We are attempting to establish “Friendly Tees” for all 18 holes. The intent is to help introduce golf as a fun game for our youth and to help keep the game more enjoyable for our more vintage players. It will also provide an option to those who wish to play a shorter course. Perhaps even our 9-hole players can now take in 18.

We are using our existing markers as we hope they will not interfere with mowing. Except on par 3s, their location is not visible as you approach the hole. Eventually, when Kyle establishes the final location of the tees, a permanent marker will be installed on the cart path indicating the location of the tee in the fairway. If you play from these tees, please provide any feedback to Kyle. If well received, things to come may include temporary scorecards, an established handicap index, and even a new scorecard. Despite winter being right around the corner there are still some fun events coming up. Keep an eye on Clubster for time and dates.

Fall is quickly approaching, a great time of year to play. Unfortunately, it also marks the coming of the end to another golf season. It was a season full of events dedicated to the benefit of the members. Those who participated reported having a great time. However, in my opinion, member participation could have been better. As I write this, we just completed our Member/ Member Tournament, the premier golf event of the year. Yet roughly only 30% of the members participated in the tournament. Despite the heat it was a great event. We hope to see more members participate next year.

Karen Nissen, 75, of Pocono Farms and Country Side in Naples, Florida, passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022 at St. Luke's Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born in Peekskill, New York she was the daughter of the late Clyde and Doris (Olson) Nissen. Karen was the beloved companion of Bruce Wheeler with whom she shared 33 years. Karen enjoyed golfing and horse racing.

When the tournament wrapped up in the evening, golfers headed to the beach for an outside BBQ dinner to close out the event.

After lunch, the teams scrambled to the course, eager to golf and compete for a good cause.

Gaudette will move onto his apprenticeship under Class A PGA Member Kyle Monahan and take a three course PGM Associate program written test. He plans to graduate college with his bachelor’s degree. We wish him the best of luck going forward!

Gaudette currently attends college at Keiser University in Florida, majoring in Golf Management. He says college has assisted in taking the PGA Players Ability Test or PAT, by applying course work to the test.

WEATHERVANE SEPTEMBER 202210 ProGoing BY ERIC EIDEN Tommy Gaudette, a lifelong resident at Pocono Farms Country mygood“ItTuesday,firstAbilityhisAssociation,ClubpassedPGAPlayersTestonhisattemptonAugust2.feelslikeasteptowardscareerpath, it felt awesome,” Gaudette said. “I want to thank Kyle (Monahan), Pat Mitchell, and Kim (Kleinle) for supporting me.”

Our PGA Golf Professional Kyle Monahan pushed Gaudette to become a Pro Golfer and learn Golf Management at Keiser University. “I didn’t know what I wanted to do for a career for a while and sophomore year of college I talked to Kyle, and he convinced me to go for it,” Gaudette said.

The PAT consists of 36 holes in one day with a target score equal to or lower than the course rating for 36 holes plus 15. If an individual shoots one 18-hole score in a PAT that is equal to or less than the target score for 18 holes plus 5 strokes, they are allowed to register as an associate. No easy feat to pass on your first try.

“College is helping out a lot by learning the basic aspects from class for the test,” Gaudette said.

Gaudette comes from a family of golfers, starting to play when he was six years old and play competitively when he was 12. “It’s one of my favorite things to do, it helps me relax, get outside, and be apart of the country club environment,” Gaudette said. “My Grandfather got my mom and my dad into it then myself, my brothers, and sister.”

Cardio HIIT class will begin Wednesday September 7 at 9 am. HIIT training or High Intensity Interval Training is a great way to scorch fat and keep the body in that fat burning state all day! Raising the heart rate for a certain time interval and then resting for a certain time interval helps keep that metabolism working throughout the day helping us to burn more fat while our bodies are at rest. This can be done at ALL FITNESS LEVELS. From marching in place to kicking it up a notch and jogging in place for example.
