From You r Boa r d Of Dir ec tor s BY ANNETTE DOERR Well that warm weather of summer sure did fly by fast this year, didn’t it? If you’re one of our resident Snowbirds, I encourage you to fill out a Snowbird Change of Address form before you head south. It’s available in our Member Services office as well as on our website, under the private resident’s section. This will enable you to stay in touch while you’re away from your Pocono Farms home. We know you’d not want to miss an edition of the Weathervane, right? If you’re going to soldier through the Tobyhanna winter with the us, November Springrest 2021 ofBig Bass LakeViews 5 is the perfect time to make sure your yard is cleaned up before the snow flies. Having your lawn mowed and your leaves cleaned up isn’t just part of being a responsible homeowner, it’s part of the rules and regulations to live in Pocono Farms. Our Administrative Code, available online, states: Lawns shall be mowed to a height of no more than 4 inches and weeds must be controlled. Violations shall result in weekly fines. For more information on this particular code violation, you can read more in Chapter 106 – Rules and Regulations, Section F. If you’re not familiar with our Administrative Code or new to our community, I highly recommend you take the time to bookmark it on our website and at least scan through it. It’s an amazingly thorough document that contains pretty much everything you need to know about living in Pocono Farms. Although the Administrative Code gives management the ability to fine non-compliant homeowners, we’d much rather you keep your property within the standards you agreed to when you moved here, however long ago that was. Just like the saying Other Seof goes, ignorance the law rvic es: is no excuse. Septic D

2021-22 BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS

BY DAVE TIMKO On October 1st, Pocono Farms hosted a meeting presented by CAI (Community Association Institute). This meeting was attended by other community managers and community members from other local communities throughout the Northeast. At this meeting, various presenters discussed topics relative to community associations and its operations. Some of these were: lake management and lasting operating effects of COVID. Many points were made by the presenters and many participants asked questions and shared their thoughts on those two subjects. One of the primary topics discussed was working with your local representatives, either at the township or County level, to seek some benefit to your community association.

ALL MEETING TIMES ARE 7PM UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED November 19, 2021 December 17, 2021 January 21, 2022 February 25, 2022 work session March 25, 2022

April 22, 2022 May 20, 2022 June 17, 2022 July 15, 2022 Annual Meeting July 16, 2022 - 10am

We, PFCCA, have a positive working relationship with Coolbaugh Township. They are very pro-active in sharing relevant information on services that they provide whereby our members can benefit. Two of the most recent events were the bulk drop off and the leaf pick up. Once we receive this information from the township, our Communication Coordinator shares this information with our members. We even have a link to the township website off of the Pocono Farms website. Having a good working relationship with the local entities also provides opportunities to work together from time to time. Pocono Farms recently attended a Coolbaugh Township Supervisors work session. At this work session, we presented the supervisors an area of concern that affects a lot of our members, and that is stormwater management. We were made aware of a note from the Monroe County Commissioners regarding monies available through the American Rescue Plan (ARP). The county is to receive funds that could be used for stormwater management. As the county stated, “it occurred to them that there might be opportunities for our townships and boroughs to partner with them to solve problems bigger than either entity can solve on its own”. We looked at this as an opportunity to at least present the issue at the township level and get it on the radar. The process will not be a short one nor will the stormwater issues be fixed overnight. Nor is it a guarantee that the problem will be resolved or awarded any part of the monies. However long the process might be as it will involve engineers and other agencies working together to design a long-term solution, we feel it is worth the effort to at least present the concern and see where it goes. By presenting the issue, our hope is that it gains some support and eventually will be considered as a project worth pursuing and eventually being awarded some monies to create a long-term solution. We will keep the community and its members updated as we migrate through this process. Enjoy your Fall season!!

BY EDWARD KELLY

BY ARTIE FURMAN Hello everyone. I can’t believe it is November already, it won’t be long till I’m digging into that bird and getting sleepy. Let’s keep it short, so I will only bring up a few things. I cannot tell you how many foxes I have seen this year. They were all over the golf course and one stole a golf ball right in front of us during a tournament. I also saw one by #18 gates last month just laying down, relaxing. But even though they seem docile and approachable and so darn cute, please remember they are wild animals. I am reminded of the cartoons where some kid is trying to hold or catch a skunk, going “here kitty kitty!” What they don’t show you in the cartoon is that bad things are about to happen. I would hate to see someone get bit, so please do not feed the animals no matter how cute. Being that is late in the year, I am hoping we have not seen snow yet. Regardless of if it has come yet or not, we know at some point it will. Please be mindful that whoever is plowing it, our staff, or Coolbaugh Twp. they will need space to plow the snow. Please keep your vehicles and other obstacles out of the way of the plow trucks. It will make their job much easier and less stressful. As always should you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to reach out to us.

I can remember being a little excited as a kid when November came along. Two holidays, Armistice Day and Thanksgiving meant a few extra days off from school. Even in the later years when I was working, we still had a few extra days off, and a long weekend to take a short trip or plan get-togethers with family and friends. I guess if we talk to the kids today, they probably still have the same thought. Although, I understand schools aren't teaching history anymore, so Armistice Day wouldn't ring a bell. I wonder how many will ever understand why November 11th got to be a holiday. I'll have to question the grand kids… Now, November means getting the snow blower tuned up, and the leaf blower should be finishing up its use for the year. I wonder if I can get another year out of the snow tires. The lawn mower performed its final act and will be tucked away until next spring. But the big item for the month is wondering when the first snow will hit this year. I can remember a few Halloween storms over the years, but not many in November. This is just a “I wonder when” month. Last month, we waved goodbye to two of our dedicated crime watch drivers. Ed and Shirley McDade sold the homestead and moved full time into their place in Myrtle Beach. They volunteered for more than the eighteen years that I have known them. We wish them well in the more moderate climate! Also, Lou and Marian Koshar have headed to their place in Arizona, as they have for many, many years, but we know that in the spring, Lou will give me a call to tell me he's ready to start riding the roads again. At ninety plus years old, Lou continues to take an interest in the community. He spent years on various committees and has watched this little community grow into the place we now call home. We could use a few more Lou Koshars on our team! In September, our drivers patrolled for 98 hours. Several of our drivers are driving multiple days. If you happened to be in the grill room on October 2nd, you would have seen a group that looks like the over the hill gang. They are the volunteers that drive the roads here, day after day, hoping their efforts are making a difference in this community. Instead of letting everyone else do it, join in, give it a try, you may enjoy a few hours away from it all. Call the office, or Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034.

COMMUNITY REMINDER HOUSEHOLD TRASH & RECYCLING Household trash and recycling cans are picked up every Tuesday. Cans need to be out at the end of your driveway, 3 feet apart, with the handles facing your home by 6:00AM. Cans must be brought in by 6:00PM. At times due to weather and delays beyond County Waste’s control, the “normal” pick up time and route may vary. To avoid having your cans missed, please have them out by 6:00AM. If you cannot have your cans out by 6:00AM for pick up, our compactor, located at The Maintenance Yard off Kilmer Drive, is open Wednesday & Friday from 8:00AM – 12:00PM and Sunday from 10:00AM – 2:00PM where you can bring your household trash and recycling.

R ound by R ound BY GREG SNYDER As the 43rd Ryder cup came to an end, one thing became obvious. It was not the dominant performance by the United States defeating the team from Europe 199. The popularity golf has gained over the last 18 months is not going away. Part of the popularity has come from a younger generation. There were six rookies on the U.S. team. Fans are being attracted to the game of golf watching these young, rising stars similar to the generation before with Tiger Woods. There were also other factors from this year’s event which may draw new eyes to the game but may also turn off golf traditionalists. Golfers were dressed a little bit differently than years past. This year golfers competed wearing hoodies. Fans were cheering for the home team’s good shots and the opposition’s bad shots and missed putts. Both sides played into the crowd and created a fun atmosphere for everyone. There were even a few that shotgunned beers on the tee box. Like these things or not, one thing is for sure, between the unbelievable shot making and the energetic environment, interest in golf continues to be on the rise.

Fun Turkey Facts and the twist to the trot: Did you know turkeys are intelligent and sensitive animals that are highly social? They create lasting social bonds with each other and are very affectionate; rather like dogs. The fitness center is the perfect place to socialize and meet new people. Still have those 2021 fitness vouchers? Bring a friend in to the fitness center and you’ll receive extra “feathers” on your turkey. Did you know an adult gobbler weighs 16 to 22 pounds on average, has a beard of modified feathers on his breast that reaches seven inches or more long, and has sharp spurs on his legs for fighting. A hen is smaller, weighing around 8 to 12 pounds, and has no beard or spurs. Turkeys can run at speeds of up to 25 miles per hour and fly as fast as 55 miles per hour. The fitness center has added new cardio equipment over the last couple years. A spin bike and ellipticals to be exact. Use these machines to hit 25 or 55 miles and you’ll earn extra “feathers” on turkey as well. Let’s get to trotting friends! See you soon and remember it’s easy to join the fitness center you just need to trot in and see us. As always thank you for your kind words and support I appreciate all of it!!! Krissie
