From Your Board Of Directors

As a board member reflecting back on my first year as a Director, I want to say THANK YOU. We, the board, appreciate all you do to ensure our community continues to progress forward and grow stronger.

During 2022, you spoke up in so many ways:

• Completing and returning a record number of community surveys, which enabled the board to further align with the needs of our communities.

• Attending the annual membership meeting in quorum, which immensely aided in the progression and highlight of key issues for the board to address.

• Approaching the challenge of replacing the pool, which in return increased enhancements and functionalities.

You showed up with ideas, votes, and a strong presence and because of you a

make forward strides to build and empower our community of diversity, amenities and views. In 2022, you showed how resilient and determined we are to have the best for our families and those who attend our programs and utilize our services.

We encourage the same drive in 2023 from each of you, now more than ever, to keep this momentum moving upward and stronger. We want your voices heard, not only where votes are shared… but ALL year round. This can be done in several ways, including:

• Attend and Join Committees – They are held monthly to provide recommendations to the board for community improvements. To date there is not enough voices joining the committees in the form of active participation

• Attend Monthly Board Meetings – There is a standing member speaking section for

• Continue To Attend Programs & Services –Many of the events continue to show increased level of attendance.

Friendly reminder… All meetings are posted on the website and broadcasted via email communications. As a board we represent you and need to hear the good, the bad and most importantly how to improve. We urge everyone to use their voice to say something, if you see something.

Again, THANK YOU, once again for all that you do. Without you, none of the success achieved to date would have been possible.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS

From The General Manager

Depending on what the Groundhog says, there may only be 6 more weeks of winter. Although we did not have much of a winter so far. Spring may be just around the corner and soon things will be thawing, greening, growing and changing around the Farms. Many of us cannot wait. Winters sure are different in Tobyhanna and we have been fortunate this year, at least through January.

As the weather warms up, we will be cleaning up the amenities and getting them ready for the upcoming season. Unfortunately, when it thaws around us, it unveils garbage and debris that was hidden under the snow and looks terrible. As many of you know, we cooperate with the Department of Transportation each Spring with a community clean up of township roadways. Stay tuned for more information regarding this clean up.

With a less than average snowfall so far this winter, we are anticipating a regular start to the golf season. Usually, we attempt to get the course opened in the middle of April – weather depending. Although it is common for us to open and then have to close for a few days due to an April snowfall. When our

Superintendent tells us it is okay to open the course, we will do so. There is even a small chance that we open in March. We have only done that twice in my 15 years at Pocono Farms.

After the thaw, we will again be out in the cul-de-sacs doing some cleanup of fallen limbs and sticks. Please do not clean up your yards and throw the debris into the middle of the cul-de-sac. Please make arrangements with the township disposal facility for this. We will also use our turbine blowers or sweeper to remove the cinders that are spread each winter season. We usually wait until there is a light drizzle or right after it rains. If we did this when it was dry, it would not be pleasant for our members/owners. No one appreciates a dust cloud.

In closing, Spring is a time of change. There is new growth and changes all around us. We are no different here at PFCCA. We must welcome change and manage it for the betterment of all associated with PFCCA. Trust that myself, the management and Board of Directors will continue to operate PFCCA in a responsible manner and do what is best for all involved. Have a great Spring!

Neighborhood Watch

Writing this on the last day of January, I can only hope that February was like previous months. Not much snow, short spurts of frigid cold but generally milder than many in the past years. Once we get through February, most of the optimists in the area can hear the birds and see the flower buds coming. Maybe too optimistic, but for the first time in a while you know for sure that weather and our surroundings will be improving. No more guessing how much ice melt we should stock up for the coming months.

Some of our snowbirds will be enjoying their last month in the sunshine states and will be returning to see the springtime changes that occur in April. March can be compared to “hump day”, we are on the way down from the peak.

Soon, we will start cleaning up the property and making plans for the ideas you have been going over this past winter. Before you start a project, check to see if permits are required or check the approved house color list. It is too big of a job to have to do twice. If there are any doubts, get in touch with Artie, our code official. He will help you with any questions that you might have. Normally, the winter gives Artie a break from writing many non-compliance letters. The most common reports are uncovered propane tanks or garbage barrels being put out to early or left out too long. But as we get into March and the coming months, the reports become more frequent and more letters are mailed out. Keeping your property

Public Safety

clear of trash and clutter and checking before jumping into bigger projects should keep you from getting one of Artie’s letters.

You will continue to see our little band of volunteer drivers every month. We drove about 146 hours in January. As we get into this time of year, we get to see the gray change to color on a weekly basis and appreciate what a nice community this is. We hope in our small way, we are helping to keep it this way. Do not forget, wave as they go by, they are your neighbors just being neighborly. Want to be part of the group, give the office a call at 570-894-4435, or leave a message for Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034.

REMINDER: Please Keep Your Dogs Leashed and Off Homeowner's Private Property

Also: No dogs or animals are allowed on the golf course, beach, docks, lake area, pool area, grassy area along and behind the beach and Clubhouse.

Hello everyone, March has arrived. Hopefully Mother Nature is being kind to us.

I have said many times through the years, that if you have a question, please ask. Since the beginning of the year, I have received quite a few. That is a good thing. The one topic I have dealt with the most, is fencing. We have received all sorts of questions including:

Is it allowed?

How high can it be?

Can I have a chain link fence?

Am I allowed to put a fence around my entire property?

This month’s article will deal with this subject. Yes, you are allowed to have a fence. I am sure as you drive through the Farms, you really do not see that many. There is a reason for that. Most people enclose their backyards to allow for pets or children to play, so as not to worry about vehicle traffic. You are allowed to have a 4-foot fence, that is the rule. People have said, “but I have seen a fence higher than that”, and they are correct. There are only a few that, because of extenuating circumstances, a variance was applied for and was granted. Those individuals have also agreed that once those circumstances change, the fence must be lowered back to 4 feet. The fences must be a natural material, not chain link. Privacy, stockade, split rail and even the proverbial white picket fence are acceptable. The fence cannot exceed more than 75% of your property, which is why the back yard is used so much as the location of choice.

I want to thank everyone for reading the Public Safety articles. As I have said in the past, if you have questions please ask. We are only a phone call away.

A new year means new golf equipment. This game keeps evolving year after year. Technology has come a long way and there is no slowing down. The golf industry seems to be back. Covid was the major cause of this.

I just returned from the PGA Merchandise show in Orlando, Florida. This is the biggest expo for golf. All the big companies were there, as well as some new ones. I enjoy being able to get my hands on all the new equipment and seeing all the new clothing trends.

Golf clubs are becoming more forgiving. Players want to hit the long ball while being able to keep it in the short grass. Short grass meaning fairway. Years ago, drivers became forgiving by being built bigger. The max size a driver can be is 460CC. The first 460CC driver was the Taylormade R7 Superquad. This was a major game changer and all the other companies jumped on board. Since drivers cannot get any larger, they are now moving weight around the perimeter of the driver to help sturdy the clubface at impact. Drivers nowadays are made from many different composites. This helps generate more ball speed off the face, which in turn helps gain distances. Here is a list of some of the new drivers to check out

this season. Callaway Paradym, Taylormade Stealth 2, Srixon ZX7, Titleist TSR, Cobra Aerojet and the Ping G430. I will say this though, these drivers are all great and all come with a big price tag. Golf clothing changes every year, but lost trends always seem to come back. Color was huge in golf in the 80s. Mismatched plaid and stripes was actually okay. It seems to me that golf clothing will circle around from bright to dark, boring colors every few years. Golf clothing is starting to become more athletic while also becoming more practical. Not only can you wear it on the course, but now you can wear it while being out and about. The trend this year is patterns. Instead of stripes or solids, companies are adding a fun flair. You can see golf shirts with palm trees, birds, flowers, and flags. You can even see shirts that have beer and hot dogs on them. Like everything else, prices have gone up, but clothing will now last a lot longer.

The golf season will be here before you know it. The Pro Shop will have all the latest and greatest trends for you to see. When Spring approaches, stop by and look for yourself. All clothing even has our logo on it. So, whether you are a golfer or not, we have something for everyone.

Fit & Fun

It is March already and there is so much planned for this month!

We are starting the month off with The Cat in the Hat, ending with a Wine & Shine Trolley Tour and possibly catching some Leprechauns in the middle! I am still not sure what I have gotten myself into, but I am loving every minute of it.

I am excited to host a Parent Social in April and I hope to see a lot of new faces with fresh ideas. It is important to me to give the children and teens in our community a safe place to gather, play and hang out with structure. We want to ensure that parents and guardians are comfortable and know that their children are safe within the Pocono Farms community. We have a beautiful room in the lower level of the Member Services building. I am currently working to make this space both kiddie friendly and teenage appropriate so we can put the room to use with more structured activities. Activities such as Ping Pong tournaments and Game nights for the Teens and Kiddie crafts, story telling and Mommy and Me aerobics for the little ones. I encourage you to keep an eye on your emails for the date and time of this event and to please come and join us to share your ideas, as this is your community.

have been a huge success and I am looking forward to March and April. As the weather warms up, it is my hope that we may be able to move class outside to the grass, possibly pool side and over on the beach.

Did she say POOL! Yes, I absolutely did, and I cannot wait to get back into the water for water aerobics! I may have some surprises up my sleeve in the fitness area as well. Something like Glow Zumba and/or Aqua Zumba. Both would be a special event, so again watch your emails for the announcements as we get closer to summer.

I appreciate all the emails with your ideas and encourage you to keep them coming. I am always looking for something new and exciting to try!

I look forward to meeting more new faces at our Bunny Brunch and egg coloring as well. I wish you all the luck of the Irish this month and hope to see you in the fitness center as well as the Lakeside Grill & Pub.

As always, thank you for your kind words and encouragement. I appreciate you all!!

“May your troubles be less. And your blessings be more. And noting but happiness come though your door.”
