I hope everyone is staying warm and enjoyed the holidays with friends and family. By the time this article is published, I am sure we have experienced plenty of snow and are wishing for Spring. I would like to take the opportunity to mention the excellent job that the PFCC staff is doing for our association. Events like the Holiday Party, Santa Brunch and Trivia Night were all a great success! It is very encouraging to see the participation, sharing time with friends and meeting new members. We are incredibly lucky to have a strong management team and staff to guide
our organization and continue to build a strong foundation for the future. If you have not, I encourage you to come out and enjoy the activities and experience the fun and social aspects of our wonderful community. I genuinely believe, every dollar you spend in our community (i.e., restaurant, golf, fitness center, events, etc.) is a dollar benefiting the health and vitality of our association for all members.
Have a safe winter, cheers to a happy and healthy 2023!
As winter sets in and the snow starts to fall, we would like to remind those that live in cul-de-sacs of three important ways to prepare. Following these guidelines will make it much easier for us to keep the roads clear of snow. Thank you for your cooperation!
1. Remove any basketball hoops or other items from the culde-sac that might interfere with our plowing efforts.
2. When there is a forecast for a plowable snow event, do not park your vehicle where it would prevent us from safely and efficiently removing the snow from the cul-de-sac.
3. Although it is not a cul-de-sac issue, we suggest that you look at securing your mailbox prior to the plowing season. Snowplows need to maintain a certain speed to discharge the snow from the blade. Unfortunately, mailboxes that are unproperly secured tend not to fare well in these circumstances.
When we plow the cul-de-sacs, we plow the snow to the outside in most cases. We do not routinely plow snow to the center of the cul-de-sac or pile it up in the middle. Our goal in plowing is to keep as much of the road surface clear and open as we can. Plowing snow to the middle of the culde-sac would prevent us from doing that. If the need for an emergency vehicle was required, we want to make sure that they can maneuver through the cul-de-sac.
We understand that few people like to shovel snow. However, we do experience a fair amount of snow in the Pocono’s which must be plowed. Most times, the snow events come back-toback which even lessens the areas where we can push snow. One critical point is that no one cul-de-sac can be plowed first each time. We understand that people do have commitments and need to get out of their driveways. To respond to this, we rotate where we start plowing each time it snows. So, no one road is always first or always last. Depending on the amount of snowfall, it may take some time for our equipment to get to your cul-de-sac. Our road crew will get there and remove the snow as safely and efficiently as they can.
If you plan to travel this winter, take the time to prepare an emergency kit. The weather is unpredictable during the winter and being prepared is recommended. Safe Travels!!

In January we all take a deep breath, the holiday activities are behind us. We survived the cooking, shopping and entertaining. It is time for a little relaxing. I hope you all had a fun holiday! I hope that you saw those who are close to you, Santa Claus was able to read your minds and that smiles were all around. Wasn’t it nice to have the kids about the house for a few weeks? Isn’t it nice that the kids are going back to school soon? Once you got over the New Year’s gala, the year’s end came as it does every year. Now put your feet up, close your eyes and dream about the problems you had with the snow blower last year. Did you get a new spark plug, and is the oil supposed to 5/30 weight, or 10/20. You will work it out. At least you do not have to worry about porch robbers anymore.
I wonder if the neighbor, the one that went south for the winter, remembered to get someone to plow his driveway and clean his steps after a snowstorm. Did they think to cancel the newspaper and have their mail forwarded? Well, you will keep an eye out for them, they are nice people.
I am happy to say we picked up a new volunteer last month. This will help us fill a few empty slots and take a little pressure off the drivers that are doing extra duty. Hopefully, he will enjoy the ride through the farms and some of his fellow volunteers. He will join us in checking for tire tracks and footsteps at seasonal homes as well as calling in litter dumping and suspicious activity. In November, our drivers patrolled for 138 hours. Want to add to our totals? Call the office at 570-894-4435 or Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034.

It sounds kind of funny saying it, but Hello 2023! Before you know it, I will be writing the December article again talking about where the year went! Oh well, let’s get started the right way. We have a lot of new homeowners, welcome to all of you. People generally get to know me by my name at the bottom of a warning or fine letter. Yes, I am THAT mean, rotten man. But let’s try a different approach.
Every new homeowner should have received a packet when you went to Member Services and did all the paperwork for your home. Please read through that. It will have the rules and regulations in it. Some things you may never need, some things will occur often. I will go through some of them for your convenience, and this is also for you long term residents who may still have a question or two. The basic rule of thumb is, “If you are doing ANY work around your house” you will need a permit. Do not take for granted that you will not.
I cannot tell you how many people received fines for not getting a permit. A few did not even get a Twp. permit. If you think I am mean, well you get the idea. Here are some of your home improvements that require a permit: roofing, deck, shed, garage, driveway, painting, siding, tree removal. Things you do inside your home you do not need a permit from PFCCA which is why replacement windows were not mentioned above. Things that must be taken care of even if you are not home perplex many people. The biggest offender is overgrown grass. I understand you were away for 6 months, but the grass still grows and must be cut. I am positive you do not want to come home to your yard looking like a hayfield and I also promise you that your neighbors do not want to look at that either.
Every year we do a few hundred applications for everything I have listed above, and every year I have near 50 or more that never apply for their permits. I have said in the past and I will reiterate that I am not a fan of the saying, “I would rather ask forgiveness than permission.” So, the moral of this story is that if you are unsure about anything to be done around your home, please ask. Better safe than sorry.
As always, should you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask. We are only a phone call away!
During my first few months as Website & Communications Coordinator, I have been lucky to be able to experience so many of the wonderful holiday traditions that Pocono Farms has to offer!
The Tree Lighting Ceremony was the perfect way to kick off the holiday season! We invited everyone into the clubhouse to create homemade ornaments for the tree. There were snowflakes, reindeer and even pinecone birdfeeders! While everyone was crafting, they enjoyed hot chocolate and cookies while listening to Christmas Carolers sing all the classics. I cannot think of a better way to get into the holiday spirit! Afterward, we made our way outside to the tree. The kids decorated with all their crafts while the carolers sang, we counted down to zero and the tree lit up! Let me tell you, it looked spectacular!
The next big event was Holiday Trivia at the Lakeside Grill & Pub. What a great way to spend the night! We had a full house of families that stopped in to enjoy delicious food and drinks, listen to live music from Christian Porter and get stumped in trivia by our host Mike Elbert. After some tricky tunes and some hard-hitting questions, it was a very close contest. However, we did have a winner. Congratulations to the winning team, Dukes of Earl! Mike and Christian did a fantastic job, and everyone had a blast!
As we entered December, it was already time for the Holiday Party! The Holiday Party was a wonderful way for residents of the Pocono Farms community to share cheer and come together during the holiday season.
At the party everyone enjoyed amazing appetizers and a delicious dinner, unique holiday cocktails and dancing to amazing live music. We were thrilled to be able to have Brad Roccanova and his band back to perform at his second consecutive holiday party, they were a hit! I bet everyone is already excited for the next holiday party!
As Christmas was fast approaching, we hosted our annual Brunch with Santa! Brunch with Santa has always been a favorite among our members and their children. Santa made his list, and he checked it twice. Fortunately, all the kids were good this year and Santa delivered as always with gifts for the boys and girls! In between their visits with Santa, everyone was enjoying the delicious brunch. The French toast and omelet stations were both in high demand. No wonder why everyone loves when Santa comes to town!
The holiday season was such an exciting time in Pocono Farms, and I cannot wait for all the awesome events that we have planned for the new year. Cheers to 2023!

Happy New Year!! I hope that everyone had a fun and festive holiday season. I know that we were busy around the Farms with Christmas Tree lightings, Holiday Trivia, Santa Brunch and our First Annual Winter Solstice celebration.
I have quickly adjusted to my new role, and I am absolutely loving it! Your patience and support have been fantastic and helped make my first recreation events a huge success.
The tree lighting was a blast! We made pinecone bird feeders to decorate the tree outside of the clubhouse and keep it animal friendly. In total we had about 50 people attend both the ornament/ craft making and the lighting outside. The weather was perfect, although a dusting of snow would have been the cherry on top!
Following the tree lighting was Holiday Trivia. I have to say, I now know all the names of the characters from the Sopranos and the Big Bang Theory along with the fact that Albert Einstein stuck his tongue out in a picture taken in New Jersey on his 72nd birthday! That picture also happens to be his most famous.
Santa Brunch once again was a huge hit and sold out!
With the start of a New Year comes resolutions, new ideas and a burst of energy! The kiddos get rambunctious, and the adults tend to get a touch of cabin fever. I invite you to come and check out the Fitness Center to help shed those holiday pounds, burn off extra energy and meet new friendly faces. Join a class or two, hop on the treadmill and walk it off or pick up the weights and get to work.
Bring the kiddos to the Clubhouse on Saturday January 14th for our Operation Gratitude event. We will be making cards to send to various heroes such as Deployed Military, Veterans, First Responders and Wounded Soldiers and their caregivers.
Join the Dart league! Come hang out and throw darts on Sunday afternoons while the football games play on the big screen TV’s.
Better yet, join us for a Paint & Sip event on Saturday January 21st at 7 pm in the Clubhouse.
Whatever you fancy, I hope to see your faces at some of the events and in the Fitness Center!
Cheers to a fabulous 2023!!
Hello golfers and all folks that are looking to stay limber during the winter months! As well as those snowbirds enjoying the warmer climate. Here are four stretches that may add a few more yards off the tee or put a little spring in your step.
These stretches will help to loosen those stiff muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments before you head to the tee or go out for the day. Remember that with any stretching exercises, slow and steady is the mantra. Quick or fast movements could lead to pulls, strains or tears. If you have any pain or distress when attempting these movements, stop immediately.
1. Hamstrings: Stand with your feet at shoulder width apart, hands at your side, bend at the waist and reach slowly toward the ground with your hands until you feel tightening in the back of the upper legs. Hold for the count of 20 and repeat.
2. Lateral Back Stretch: If you are on the tee, grab a club and hold it with both hands at shoulder width apart above your head keeping your arms straight. Keep your lower body steady and bend to the left side and hold for the count of 20 then repeat on the right side.
Repeat as necessary. If you are at home, grab a broom handle or short stick and begin the stretch.
3. Lower Back and Trunk Stretch: This movement can be done in a golf cart, on a bench or on a chair. Sit up straight, shoulders back, keep your hips facing forward and rotate your upper body as far as you can go to the left looking over the left shoulder and hold for the count of 20. Repeat on the right side. Repeat as necessary.
4. Quad Stretch: Here is a great stretching exercise that can be done while holding onto a golf cart or a doorknob. Stand with your feet close together and keep your trunk straight. Bring your left heel up toward your butt, grab your left ankle with your left hand and pull back slowly and up so that your left heel moves toward or touches your left buttock (Make sure to steady yourself with the opposite hand). Hold for the count of 20 and then follow the same movement, but on the right side.
These are just a few of the many stretches that can help you through the day on and off the golf course.
