Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow… Happy February everyone! We’re just past the half-way mark with winter here in Tobyhanna. If you’re lucky enough to be one of our snowbirds, and you’re reading this on a warm sunny beach, we hope you’re enjoying your winter. We look forward to the warmer weather and having you back home! If you’re like me, and sticking it out here in the tundra, I’m hoping Mother Nature keeps things civil for the rest of the season. But just because the weather isn’t always delightful, our facilities here at Pocono Farms are! If your New Years resolution was to get into better shape, stop by our fitness center and look into a membership. It’s clean, convenient, affordable and right around the corner! Krissie and her staff have a great schedule of classes that are perfect for every fitness level, and our fitness room and equipment outshine local gyms that are priced well above our affordable membership rates. Make 2022 the year you get back to the gym, without even leaving the neighborhood. Winter is also a great time to try dinner at the Lakeside Grill and Pub. Whether it will be your first time, or first time in a while, you’ll be delighted with your meal. Our chef has been knocking it out of the park, and our staff is second to none. Dining at the Grille is a great way to meet your neighbors while enjoying a fun night out. Keep an eye on the website, your email, the Facebook page, and in the Weathervane to keep abreast of upcoming events this winter. If there’s enough snow, sledding is permitted on the 8th fairway of the golf course. As a general reminder, if you live in the vicinity of a fire hydrant, please make sure that it’s dug out and accessible in case of emergency. As a rule of thumb, hydrants should be cleared of snow and debris 3-feet on each side, so that they can easily be accessed by the fire department in every direction. Stay safe everyone!

Winter Preparedness As the winter season really sets in, we would like to remind those that live within the PFCCA cul de sacs of a few items: If you have not, please remove any basketball hoops or any other items from the cul de sac that might interfere with our plowing efforts. When there is a forecast for a plowable snow event, we ask that you not park your vehicle where it would prevent us from safely and efficiently removing the snow from the road surface.

954 Route 196, Tobyhanna, PA

Although it is not a cul de sac issue, we suggest that you take a look at securing your mailbox. Snow plows need to maintain a certain speed in order to discharge the snow off of the plow blade. Unfortunately, mailboxes that are not secured tend not to fare well in these circumstances.

“I Live in Pocono Farms”

When the maintenance department plows the cul de sacs, they plow the snow to the outside in most cases. We do not routinely plow snow to the center of the cul de sac or pile it up in the middle. The goal is to keep as much of the roadway surface clear and exposed as we can. Plowing snow to the middle of the cul de sac would prevent us from doing that. If the need for an emergency vehicle was required, we want to make sure that they can maneuver through the cul de sacs. In addition, the garbage trucks are very large and need to get around the circles as well. It is understood that not many people like to shovel snow. However, we do experience a fair amount of snow in the Pocono’s which must be shoveled and plowed. If your driveway is shoveled, we will do our best to minimize the amount of snow placed within the opening as we plow the cul de sacs. At times, snow events come back to back which complicate even further as to where we can push the snow. One important point to be made is that no one cul de sac can be the first to be plowed each time. We do understand that people do have commitments and need to get out of their driveways. To respond to this, we rotate where we start plowing each time it snows. So no one road is always first or always last. Depending on the amount of snowfall, it may take some time for our equipment to get to your cul de sac. During a normal snow event, we will have 5 plow trucks and a loader if needed, pushing the snow back within the Pocono Farms community. Two of those trucks have cinder/salt spreaders on them. As you can imagine, with 86 cul de sacs and the amenity parking lots, it does take time to get through them all. We appreciate your patience and understanding. If you plan to travel during the winter, take the time to prepare an emergency kit. The weather is unpredictable. Just look at the recent events on I-95 in early January. Some vehicles were there for over 24 hours. Being prepared will make a bad situation a little more bearable. Safe Travels!!

Neighbor hood Watch BY EDWARD KELLY

P u bl ic S a fet y BY ARTIE FURMAN - CMCA , AMS How quickly the days slipped by, for now it is February. And things here at Pocono Farms are moving along just as quickly. New homes are being built, even in this cold weather. We are getting permit applications for tree removal, for building projects, for fences and so on. It already looks to be a busy year. This month’s article is going to be geared toward the “New Homeowner.” We have had many homes change hands this past year, so this is to enlighten all the new homeowners and put them on the right path. I’ve already had to have a chat with a few who set off New Year’s fireworks not knowing they were not allowed. The new homeowner may want to change some, or mini things to their new home. Obviously, they want to make it their own. There are things that must be done and rules that must be followed to give you the dream home that you’ve always wanted. Anytime you want to make a specific change to the exterior of your home, you must get a permit from us and the township. Things that would require such permits or roofs, decks, sheds, driveway paving and so on. Things you want to do to the interior of your home no permit is needed from Pocono Farms. Although you will still have to get things approved through the township. Things such as adding bathrooms enlarging rooms structural things that an engineer would have to look at these are just a few of the things that require a permit. There are size restrictions as well the new homeowner may not be aware of. Things such as a shed we only allow for a maximum size of 12 x 12 or 144 sq ft. Now the shed could be of a different dimension, meaning if you wanted to SERVICES have a 10 x 14 or an 8 x 16 those would be fine so long as the square footage does not exceed the Othequestions maximum allowed. Should you have any r Services : of any type of work that you would like Septo ticdo Design, to your new home please feel free to contact Installatio Member Services, or my office directlyRe and we n, pair, and will guide you through the appropriate Masteps in nancto e that are necessary. The other item I wouldtelike PA #018328 NOF/PSMA 0505649438 speak up for the new homeowner is whether you are choosing to use your home as a short-term rental. Although the year is new, I’ve already had to re-educate a few homeowners as to the proper info@avalancheseptic.com | www.avalancheseptic.com procedures of the short-term rental process. Every February I have the same thought when trying to come up with something to say in the Weathervane. Normally, this month has us in the worst of the winter weather, with not a lot to smile about except maybe Valentine’s Day - if you're a reveler. I recall moving here in February of 2003 after a significant snowstorm. I have pictures of us moving into the house with waist high snow on the front deck and for a while, we couldn't get our Direct TV hooked up because no one would go up on the roof to set the dish. But then, I learned from my golf friends, that going to Myrtle Beach for February and March made a lot of sense! So, for several years, we spent January looking ahead to the trip we were going to take to South Carolina. And true to what our friends told us, there were many Pocono Farms residents and many golfers there to make us at home. So, February had both the worst and best times to look forward to. Today, I just keep the snow blower filled up and ready to go. Our drivers continue to ride the roads and do their small part to help keep this place we chose as our home. We still wonder why so many people find it difficult to bring their garbage barrels in after the Tuesday pick up. We've found a number of these places are the short-term rental properties, but many, if not most are residential owners. One of our drivers talked with a short-term renter and they had no idea that trash collectors wouldn't pick up bags outside the barrel, or that there was a compactor they could use. While this is the responsibility of the owner to pass on this information to a renter, we may not be doing our part to press the owners to provide a list of dos and don’ts for the renters to use. Among the calls I received recently was a property that was erecting a five- or sixfoot fence around their entire property. Now I know this is not in compliance with our agreed to rules, but I also know, you can get a variance if you can show the board that any variation from our tenets is necessary. Hopefully, this owner has spoken with our code official and has had this approved by the board. Whenever you want to do a renovation, checking with the code official is a good idea. It could save you time and money! |

moun ta i ns of hope As the winter holidays were rapidly approaching Collette Houston Ong and Katrina Weithman visited the LVHN Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center to deliver the $25,000 check from our 1st Annual Mountains of Hope Event back in October 2021 at Pocono Farms Country Club. It was a privilege for Collette and Katrina to be on-site at the LVHN – Pocono Cancer Center to participate in this transition of our fund-raising efforts. J. David Woods, Director, LVHN-Pocono Foundation provided these words on the event and all our efforts: The LVHN-Pocono Foundation is truly grateful for the generous support from the 1st Annual Mountains of Hope Event. A special thanks to Collette Houston and her inspiring team who were instrumental in making their inaugural event an enormous success. The $25,000 they raised to benefit clinical research ensures that our patients will continue to receive world class cancer care. With the full support of our clinical leaders across the Network, we look forward to a long and meaningful partnership with this wonderful organization. Please save the date and watch for more information in the coming months. The 2nd Annual Mountains of Hope Event will be held at Pocono Farms Country Club on Saturday, October 8th, 2022.

F un w it h Fitness BY KRISSIE AYLWARD, PFCCA FITNESS DIRECTOR

February, the month of Love, some would say. We send cards, chocolates, and flowers to those who mean the most. We take our spouses or significant others out for a romantic dinner. Some even chose this month to ask another to spend the rest of their life with them. Yes, it seems that those things happen on one specific day in the month of February most famously name Valentine’s Day. Let me ask you this, why does it have to be a specific day or month that we celebrate our love or admiration for another person? And why do we show that love with things? It seems to me that we should be showing our love for others and ourselves every day. Supporting another, cheering them on, laughing with them, picking them up when they fall, encouraging them, joining them in something they find difficult and just simply letting them know you’re there. The same can be done when we chat about self-care and selflove. Taking care of your body is so important! Planning your meals and prepping your food so you aren’t tempted to make bad choices. Setting your alarm to wake up early, beginning your day with a short yoga flow or stretch. Feeding your mind with positive affirmations and maybe some motivational quotes. Journaling your thoughts, hopes and dreams maybe even writing out your goals for the day, week, or month. Treat yourself when you accomplish a goal you’ve been working towards. Buy yourself flowers or chocolates maybe even take your self out to dinner and enjoy your favorite glass of wine. Cheer yourself on and support yourself. You are your biggest cheerleader!! Self-love is not selfish; you cannot truly love another until you know how to love yourself. Have a fabulous February! I hope to see you in the fitness center taking care of YOU!! ~Krissie
