Director Rich McCormick

From Your Board Of Directors

Happy February! I would like to appreciate all the hard work that our Finance Committee and staff have done to create a solid budget for this year. With all the support in the community for celebrations, memberships and use of the amenities we expect this year to be quite prosperous. Keep your eyes peeled for upcoming events and sign up early!!  We are looking forward to the new playground, beach upgrades and the new pool and splash pad. The golf course is in great shape along with fantastic food at the restaurant.

I would like to encourage participation at our business meetings where the membership can help guide the directors in what you would like to see the development grow into. Suggestions for improvements, new programs or just to see how healthy the organization is. Unfortunately, we did not get all our committees filled this year. Hopefully with more participation at the meetings, we can bring value to joining the committees to better the experience here at Pocono Farms. Being the rookie on the board, I have a lot to learn and look forward to serving the community.

From The General Manager

It is common as we enter a new year, to look forward with a fair amount of optimism, with a little hint of pessimism. We are a little pessimistic only due to those unforeseen things that

happen that are beyond our control. As we have done in the past if/when those things happen, we will deal with them appropriately and move on.

On paper, 2023 looks to be a good year as we are carrying some great momentum over from 2022. In 2022, we were able to gain back a little more of our stride since 2020. Our golf, and Food & Beverage numbers continued to build on our re-opening trends of 2021. In the later part of 2022, our banquet business was starting to get back to pre-COVID levels. That business seems to be carrying through into 2023.

TEXT: 570-977-8948

FAX: 570-894-3300

CELL: 570-977-8948

The golf operations continue to build on their 2021 and 2022 momentum as well.

At the end of the 2020 golf season, we had 183 members. At the end of the 2022 season, we had 233 members. 50 new members in just two years is really positive and good for everyone at Pocono Farms.

In 2022, those members played over 8,000 rounds of golf. This does not count the amount of league, tournament, and promotional rounds, 6,402.

We cannot talk about 2023 without mentioning the reopening of the outdoor pool, new splash pad and the new

playground. We are still on target for the re-opening of the outdoor pool area for Memorial Day Weekend. We are right at our initial project timeline schedule. As long as the weather continues to cooperate, we should hit that deadline.

The majority of the playground equipment has been installed. We sent back one piece as it was damaged during the installation by their contractors. Once this piece is received and installed, we can then spread the 10” to 12” of required playground mulch that we have on-site. This mulch will be spread out over the installed drainage stone once the landscape fabric is placed.

In closing, 2023 should be another fun and exciting year at Pocono Farms. We also have some new faces on our management team. Although Krissie is not new as she has been our fitness director, she has absorbed the position of recreation director to broaden her talents and offerings to our members. Brendan has filled the vacancy of Communication/ Website Coordinator and is already producing some great results.

Bring on 2023!!!

Neighborhood Watch

It is always difficult to write about February. By now, the snow blower works, or it does not. Or the person you hired to plow, either shows up or they do not. Valentine’s Day is important in your house, or maybe not. Usually the skiing, sledding and ice skating are something to look forward to, but maybe not in every household. The one thing you know about February is, the remaining crime watch volunteers will be on the road keeping their eyes open and hoping there is nothing bad to see.

February used to be an exciting time for me, as I would be on the road to Myrtle Beach. Excitement started as we began packing for our two months away from the snow. By the first of February, we would be in our condo looking at the beach and seeing how our world had changed for a while. Now it is home in the Poconos, starting the countdown to spring.

By now, a few more of our drivers have taken off to the sunshine and will be gone for a month or two. But the remaining hearty souls will brave out the rest of the winter weather. In December, our drivers logged 102 hours on the road. Several days went uncovered due to the ice and snowstorms. We can all expect a storm or two in February, and we will do our best to cover the farms as usual.

Would you like to give a few hours a month a try? Call the office for information or leave a message for Russ Kelly at 570-894-4034.

February is here. Already we are 2 months into 2023. I am still getting used to saying that. Mother Nature was a little fickle in January, single digits and 50-60 degree weather. I can only hope that this month will more of the latter.

Being that February is a short month, this will be a short article. I am going to talk about two things that are related. Garbage cans and trash/dumping. Pickup day here in the Farms is on Tuesday. When the truck takes away your trash, you are supposed to pull your cans back to your home and not leave them at the roadside. When putting out your trash for pickup, try to do it the day of or the night before. Putting out your trash on a Friday for a Tuesday is like ringing a dinner bell for bears, racoons, possums, skunks and every other hungry woodland creature.

TO QUALIFY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP YOU MUST:

• Be a High School Senior

• Be a resident of Pocono Farms Country Club Association

• Have a Grade point average minimum of 2.75

• A copy of your transcript must be attached to this applicatioin

• Homeowner must be a member in good standing with the Association (no past due balance)

• Or be on a payment plan for current year’s dues.

PLEASE ATTACH A SHORT DESCRIPTION ON HOW YOU FEEL YOU QUALIFY FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:

• Include a description of your Community Activities and/or volunteer work

• School Activities

• Employment History

Please have this application, along with all of the required information, turned into the PFCCA, Inc. Member Services office by 4:30 p.m. on April 21, 2023. Date of the interviews will be Saturday May 6th, 2023. Applicants will be notified as to the time of day for their interview.

Now for part two of that equation. If for any reason an animal does get at your trash, please pick it up. The longer it is on the ground, the further the distance the animals drag it. It is not proper for your neighbors to have to pick up your trash. The best way to alleviate this is to go back to the first part of this equation.

Now for the next phase of this subject, dumping. I cannot tell you how many times so far this year that people have just dumped garbage bags around the maintenance area. Many times, dropped directly in front of or underneath signage that reads, “Illegal dumping will result in a $500.00 fine”. A few of these are repeat customers. Please only bring trash to the compactor during the proper times which are posted on those same signs telling you not to dump. As always should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask. We are only a phone call away.

WEATHERVANE FEBRUARY 2023 7

Round by Round

Hello everyone! I hope you are all having a wonderful offseason and are excited for 2023!! I am sure some of you may be in a warmer climate and are still playing. Some of you are making the most of the NEPA winter while working on your games via indoor or home golf. No matter where you are, we all share a common goal going into the 2023 season. We want to get better and have our best year yet!

Every golfer wants to improve but for us amateurs it can be difficult to know where to start. Most golfers would say to hit more fairways and greens, make more putts or simply tighten up your short game. We all would agree however improving these parts of your game starts with planning how you will practice. Practice with a purpose.

Planning out time to practice is necessary, especially in the winter. Set up a calendar where you have a specific activity to work on during a specific day of the week. Monday could be your stretching, yoga or golf exercise day to stay limber. Wednesday could be an hour of chipping. Friday could be an hour of putting. Either Saturday or Sunday

can be a trip to the indoor simulator. When the weather breaks, plan your outdoor practice the same way. Make sure you are picking targets and seeing results, good or bad. Track those results from shot to shot or week to week and you will start seeing the good outweigh the bad. Tracking results of our practice also helps us realize what our games can and cannot do. Which will improve our course management and shave off a few of those dreaded snowmen.

Utilize the technology we have at our disposal to help you improve your practice. Indoor golf simulators and launch monitors will give you instant feedback. Specifically, how far you hit each club. You can also utilize technology such as AI caddies that attach to your clubs and track every shot. Tablets or smart phone apps will help you record and visually see your swing along with what needs to be corrected. There are also many swing aids that will help with full swings, chipping and putting. Utilize everything you have at your fingertips, practice with a purpose and have your best year yet!

Fit & Fun

Love is in the air!

February is a month to spend more time on you. Taking care of yourself and doing the things that make you feel good will boost your endorphins and help curb those mid-winter blues.

Hot Yoga is the perfect way to honor your body and learn to rebalance and focus on you.

What exactly is Hot Yoga?

Hot yoga really just means that the room is heated above normal room temperature. The heat can be set to whatever the yoga instructor wants, though it is typically between 80 and 100°F (27 and 38°C).

Hot yoga offers a wide variety of benefits for both your mind and body. It can help you burn calories, build bone density, boost your cardiovascular fitness and improve your flexibility. It may also help ease depression and reduce stress.

Hot yoga classes are now offered the first and third Sundays of the month at 9:30AM. The classes are open to all fitness members and class card holders. You can also pay a drop-in rate if you would like to try it out before committing to a long-term membership.

Classes will be held in the fitness center classroom. Be sure to bring water, a towel and a mat.

Not into Yoga? That is ok. It is not for everyone. Try a massage, a manicure or pedicure, buy something new for yourself, have a bestie sleepover or a guy’s night out.

Come and enjoy dinner for Valentine’s Day and leave the kids with me for a fun evening of crafts and a movie on Friday, February 10th. Hang out with us on Sunday, February 12th and watch the Super Bowl and enter to win some fun prizes. Better yet, celebrate Mardi Gras on Saturday, February 18th.

Take the time this month to celebrate you!

I would like to take a moment, celebrate you, and thank you for helping make January a success! Our Paint & Sip event was an enormous success! Our 2023 Dart League is off to a great start, we have six teams this season! The Operation Gratitude event sent so many care kits and letters to soldiers overseas, wounded warriors, veterans and first responders. Your participation is what makes all these events a success. I hope to see more new faces this month and in the coming months. If you have ideas that you would like to share, please feel free to contact me I am always up for trying something new!

Much Love, Krissie
