6TH CLASS

For the past few weeks the purple corridor has been working hard creating beautiful art for Christmas. We've created some really cool Christmas light art using chalk and stencils as well as following a really cool drawing tutorial for our village Christmas scene. We then created a beautiful collaborative Christmas tree with all the other 6th classes, each classes made different designs and patterns and we combined these to make our Christmas.

In December all primary schools in Ireland introduced mask wearing from 3rd to 6th class, including my school Midleton CBS. At first it was kind of weird to be wearing masks but now we are used to it. Luckily we don’t have to wear them on yard and during lunch time when we are eating. I really don’t mind it now and I think my class don’t mind as well. To me masks have upsides and down sides. The upside we keep each other safe, the down side it can be itchy!

For the last 5 weeks Kevin from munster rugby has been calling to the school on Thursdays to train all the boys from 4th, 5th and 6th in rugby. Training has been so much fun we have learned all the fundamentals of rugby such as running, passing, catching and evasion. We played loads of really fun small sided games and week on week as our skills developed we started to learn the rules of rugby. This allowed us to expand on our skill set and play games against each other. We have loved the sessions with Kevin and hope he will come back to the school again soon.

Mn. Gail’s 6th Class were busy learning about light, refraction and building periscopes. Working collaboratively they did a great job!

During this month in 6th class, we presented our World War 1 projects. Everyone chose different topics on the war and presented their projects to the class. Everyone enjoyed researching World War 1 because we learned a lot that we didn’t know and we found it very interesting. We made our projects on Powerpoint or Google slides and we had two weeks to complete them. We were graded on planning, how it was presented, the effort we put in and our own self-evaluation. Some boys did the Battle of The Somme, others did the Battle of Jutland and that was the reason it was very intriguing. Everyone’s project was outstanding and packed with facts. One thing that stood out was that everyone’s project was different and unique. Interesting fact, 12-year-old boy, Sidney Lewis fought in The Battle of The Somme and came back home when he was 13-yearsold!!!

The boys in the Yellow Corridor enjoyed a trip to the playground on Friday. They all had so much fun but I'm not sure was the local cat more popular than the actual playground! Our boys are LOVING the coloured benches we purchased last year as a result of our school community’s fundraising efforts. The boys love putting them to good use at break times to be creative and inventive. Thank you to all of you who continue to support our boys and our school.

Today the CBS Cafe was opened for business in our Yellow Corridor as part of our Life-Skills Programme. The boys were nothing short of AMAZING! Each boy brought their own money for purchasing tasty treats from our two outstanding cafe assistants. There were phone calls made, choices made, orders taken, goodies eaten and maths skills put to good use when calculating bills and change…..what a GREAT day! Smiles all round! Thank you to our AMAZING staff across the Yellow Corridor for all your help, support, encouragement and enthusiasm

As we reach the end of the term, the boys in the Yellow Corridor have been learning and experiencing so much. A huge part of their learning experience this term was taking part in our Social Skills Programme which gave them the opportunity to take part in our school shop and café. This was a massive success, all the boys participated so well. They had the opportunity to buy treats and drinks and enjoy them in our café. Well done boys! This term we had been learning about many themes including materials, winter, animal life and Christmas. The boys have taken part so well in these learning opportunities. Alfie has also been making frequent visits to the Yellow Corridor, the boys love spending time with him.

Wishing all the boys in the Yellow Corridor a very happy and wonderful Christmas. See you all in 2022! A BIG Thank you to John and Aidan for helping the boys with their Christmas project. Check out the boys very own Christmas Production at the link below: https://youtu.be/DkWauDsexFc

MCC School Therapy Dog Alfie was delighted to be back in school after the Halloween break. He loved being back in class and getting to reconnect with our boys. Meet the director of The Nativity, it’s non other than our very own MCC School Therapy Dog Alfie!

Alfie’s training is always ongoing and in November he also got to meet up with all his friends and head off on the train to Cobh. From his relaxed disposition we don’t think it phased him in the slightest! Good boy Alfie Alfie continues to attend training classes with Letitia and is learning so much at each session. Thank you to MCC for their continued support.

What a FABULOUS photos of Alfie and some of our boys! It’s great to watch such strong bonds being developed between Alfie and all our boys, what a privileged position to be in. We can never underestimate the power of these relationships. Alfie is always delighted when someone pays him a visit in the office and we know all our boys get great enjoyment from popping in to see him.

Alfie happily gave his approval to our outdoor decorations! We think they look just as fantastic by night.

We have raised €305.00 for the Midleton St. Vincent de Paul

This year, just like every other, the corridors are awash with colour made up of all the hard work of the boys themselves. But unlike any other year you, the parents./guardians cannot get in to see them all. So we decided to put together a montage of all the work that can be seen on our school noticeboards since midterm.
