1ST CLASS

We have been learning about the importance of keeping the birds safe this winter. We made bird feeders to feed our resident school robin. We hope our robin likes them!

We are learning all about the postman, the Inuit people and the Christmas story. We are having lots of fun writing and posting letters, playing with our winter small world and recreating the Christmas story.

Christmas is in full swing in First class. We made two types of decorations for our tree, the pompom and the star. We made the pom poms from red and green wool and the star from modelling clay.

Along long time ago there was a woman called Mary. An angel showed up and told her that she would have a baby called Jesus. Mary was so delighted. Her baby was going to be the son of God.

Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem and they looked for a place to stay. An innkeeper gave them some food and they stayed in a stable. That night Jesus the son of God was born. The baby slept on hay until the dawn. Meanwhile, there were shepherds in the fields nearby. The shepherds were getting sleepy. Then an angel appeared and he had an important message. Jesus was born! The shepherds found the baby in the stable.

Three kings saw a special bright star. They followed it all the way to Bethlehem. They saw a stable and they knew the special baby was there. They gave the baby gold, frankincense and myrrh. Jesus the son of God was born. They celebrated.

Múinteoir Amy’s class had a lot of fun decorating their Christmas tree this week. All of the beautiful decorations were made by the boys themselves.

Winter hats from the boys in M. Lisa's class! Ideal for this cold weather

This month our theme is Christmas. For role play we have a big green post box. The postman collects the post and we get lovely cards. For small world we play with a winter town. We make all the people happy and we build the town. The people put up the Christmas tree and have fun in the snowy town. At our wrapping station we wrap all the presents. We put ribbons on the parcels and then we use them at the post office. For construction, we build post offices and trucks. We even made post machines. We love doing Aistear with Alfie.

We are getting ready for Christmas. We have a Christmas tree in our classroom. We made decorations for the tree. We painted red and gold stars and we put them on the Christmas tree. Our Christmas tree also has lots of candy canes! There is an advent calendar in our classroom too. At the end of each day our teacher presses the random button and whoever’s name gets picked gets a chocolate. We are performing our Christmas play soon! We sing lots of Christmas songs. We can’t wait for Christmas!

Last week it started snowing very heavily. I went outside with Seán and we built a snowman called Jimmy. Just when I was going inside to get hot chocolate suddenly a beam of light came from the sky and pointed at Jimmy. He came to life! We became friends and we decided to play soccer at the soccer pitch. We flew to the soccer pitch on Jimmy’s flying mobile. Jimmy was the goal keeper and I was in midfield. Jimmy saved a goal. Just before half time I scored a goal. A while later we went to Tayto park on Jimmy’s ice sled. We went on the scariest rollercoaster. Jimmy fell off it into the pool! Next we went to the cinema. Jimmy was melting so I bought him a slushie and we watched the movie. After that we went to Smyths and got jumbo Pokemon cards. We traded some of them with Jimmy’s friends. After we were walking home when evil Santa came in his sleigh. Evil Santa took Jimmy and he melted him with his magic. I was so sad but I will never forget Jimmy.

M. Lisa’s 2nd class

Yesterday morning it was snowing. I built a snowman called Olaf in my back garden. When I woke up the next morning my snowman was alive. We went to the playground and we went on the swings and slide. We went to the park and we built another snowman. We used sticks for his arms. We went on to the woods. We played chasing. After we went to school. We did mental maths in school and played on the yard. Next we went to my house and we had our dinner. We went to sleep and he was still alive the next day!

Dear Diary, Today I was hanging from the line of art. Múinteoir Lisa kept banging her head off my leg as she walked around the classroom. What a silly teacher! She clearly wasn’t watching where she was going! Dear Diary, Today I was ice-fishing in the Tuff Tray. M. Lisa’s class made an Arctic scene in their Tuff Tray for Aistear. I made a campfire for myself and my friends. I caught an Orca Whale on my fishing rod! Dear Diary, Today I ate all of the sweets and candy canes from the class Advent calendar. They were so delicious but I still left some for the boys!
