SPORTS REPORT SUMMER 2025

Written by Mr Bennett
Thank you for all your efforts and hard work this academic year, in what has been one of the most successful years for sport at NHEHS in recent memory This term alone has seen students excel across cricket, tennis, athletics, water polo and dance The U13 and U15 cricket teams had an impressive season, both reaching the County semi-finals The U13 team also went on to make a bit of school history by becoming the first school team to reach the third round of the National Cup Tennis also saw standout performances, with the U18 team reaching the regional final of the Aberdare Cup, and two pairs reaching the knockout stages at the Independent Schools National Championships
In athletics, both our Junior and Inter teams qualified for the Regional A Finals of the English Schools’ Track and Field Cup, while a record number of students represented Ealing at the Middlesex Championships. Remarkably, we also had three students: Sofia B, Natasha B and Minna W, all of whom qualified for the English Schools’ Athletics National Championships The U13 water polo team finished 5th at the National Finals, and 60 dancers took part in the regional heats of the Great Big Dance Off at Cadogan Hall, performing with passion and pride
Sports Day was a brilliant celebration of sporting achievement, with 14 school records broken and strong performances in the Jessica Ennis-Hill Cup across all year groups. Congratulations to all those who have contributed to such a successful and inspiring term of sport We now look ahead with excitement to another year of opportunity and achievement

The Sports Awards is so much fun It's a special ceremony to recognize students for their hard work and excellent achievements in sports I had never attended the Sports Awards, and I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was so excited to see what the event was going to be like The mood was so energetic, and the room was beautifully decorated It was incredible to see so many people get awards for their achievements
It was inspiring to have our guest speaker, Olympic silver medalist at the London 2012 games, Samantha Murray, talk to us Not only that, but it was interesting hearing how she struggled in her journey to success in the Olympic Pentathlon competition, because it shows how important commitment and dedication is to achieving what we want She told us that even though she struggled in a very significant part of the pentathlon, she trained and trained until she had mastered it. It was an extremely compelling and motivating part of the night and definitely my favourite.
And of course, the food was delicious - a BBQ with the traditional sweet pot for dessert! It was then onto the awards, where students got awards for their various sports, along with some sp i l d h O t t di C

Congratulations to our U13 Water Polo team for finishing 5th in the National Finals at Northampton School for Boys on May 8th!
Having qualified for the finals last term through the heats, our team of Year 7 and Year 8's made a positive start to the finals although they hadn’t enjoyed as much training time together as they would have liked
2025 is the first year we have qualified in all three age groups for the national finals – U13, U15 and U18. Our U18s and U15s were crowned national champions in their finals. With many girls ‘playing up ’ an age category, the future looks bright for our Water Polo squad for next year too!
U13 Water Polo Captain Layla R, writes about the finals: The tournament began with a tense opener against JAGS, where the teams were evenly matched throughout, resulting in a well-earned draw which helped settle our nerves
Next up was a tough encounter against a strong Bolton side Despite the team’s best efforts and some impressive defensive work, Bolton edged ahead and won
Not to be discouraged, the team regrouped and came back firing against Manchester With energy, focus, and great team chemistry, NHEHS secured a convincing win, earning them 5th place overall in the national competition
We look forward to training hard together as a team over the next year so we can come back and get closer to that win!

On Tuesday 6th May, the Year 7/8 and 9/10 dance groups went to one of the heats of the Great Big Dance Off to represent Notting Hill & Ealing with dances we had been working on as part of Dance club during the year
We were performing in the first act of the competition in the KS4 category to a mashup of the songs ‘Womanizer’ and ‘Circus’ both by Britney Spears Our dance had been choreographed by Maddy from DG dance and we are so grateful to have her as our teacher! Our costumes included different sparkly tops, skorts, feather accessories, gloves and fishnet tights. We were very nervous leading up to the performance as our dance and costumes were very different to the other schools’ but once we got backstage we were just excited to do our dance one last time We definitely danced our best with both the lifts being successful and the audience especially loving the whacking section during Circus
We were performing in the second half of the competition in the KS3 category so we had time to prepare ourselves and watch the other groups before us Our dance was to the song ‘Hung up ’ by Madonna and it was choreographed by Ilana from DG dance who is a real treat to have teaching us We all had the same costume of stripy white and black trousers and a plain black top but we each had either gold or silver accessories We were very excited to dance until we got to the side of the stage when we became very nervous However, we encouraged each other and when we got on stage, we performed with a lot of enthusiasm and confidence Sadly we were not one of the final four teams to go through but we got to see some amazing and talented dancers Also one of the highlights of the event was the enthusiasm and encouragement all the teams gave each other during the performances As one of the biggest groups at the competition the Notting Hill cheering was some of the loudest, particularly when each of our teams was on stage the other team stood up clapped danced and sang along to support them

This season we had one U13, one U15 and one U18 team entered into the LTA Division 1 leagues The U13 team had some great results, with the team only losing 1 match during the season. The U15's were in the tough group but performed well, winning 3 matches and losing 2
The U18 team played in the U18 Aberdare Cup, winning the county division and t faced South Hampstead High School in the Regional Final! With a close competit unfortunately NHEHS didn’t have enough to reach the National Finals This is exceptional achievement - a first for NHEHS!
From Sunday 29th June to Tuesday 1st July, Notting Hill took part in the ISTA Ten Championships, a fun and competitive tournament at Eton Despite the heat, the pair of Anoushka and Elizabeth won all 5 of their qualifier matches to qualify for Cup competition, a first for NHEHS! The U18 pair also played brilliantly and qualified for the Cup competition The U18 team managed to reach the last 16 – a first for NHEHS Our Year 9 pairs also played with determination and progressed into the Plate matches It was a fantastic experience filled with great tennis, team spirit and delicious pizza!
Overall, a very successful season of tennis!
The U13 cricket season started with a bang, facing St Benedicts in both the National Cup and Middlesex Cup
After a successful first match as a team, we began focusing at training some of the finer details that we knew would assist us in the upcoming matches
With a victory against Latymer Upper, we managed to face Epsom College in the National Cup 3rd round It came down to the finest of margins, with us narrowly missing out This is the furthest a NHEHS team have gone in this cup
After a convincing win against Grey Court, the next game of the Middlesex Cup was the semi-final against local rivals, Godolphin & Latymer. After a good batting innings, we had to put in the hard work with the ball. Unfortunately their batters were big hitters and they knocked us out with a few balls to spare

The next morning we quickly ate a buffet breakfast and packed up ready to set off by 830am We competed against other GDST schools from across the country in various events at a Nottingham athletics arena With strong performances across track and field various students achieved personal bests and even won their events Cecily, in Year 8, jumped an astonishing 151m in high jump thus winning in not just her age category, but also the entire high jump competition Isla came 1st in Year 8 long jump, Lara in Year 7 finishing 2 in the 1500m and Erin, in Year 9, achieved a PB in 200m of 2706s and came 2 As a team we came 4th overall with lots of excitement and encouragement from and for each other nd nd
Overall, this was a fantastic season for the U13 team - we worked well together and not only played some fantastic cricket, but made long lasting memories and new friends
"The rewards are going to come, but my happiness is just loving the sport and having fun performing."
—Jackie Joyner Kersee
The athletics rally was a great event in which we all had lots of fun and I’m sure the athletes all hope to attend next year

This cricket season has been particularly eventful for the U15's with the team managing to reach the semi final in the Middlesex Hardball Cup and achieve our best result to date for the U15's in the National Schools Cup by reaching the 2nd round After starting this year ’ s cricket season on a positive note coming runners-up in the Lady Taverners indoor cricket tournament, we were determined to keep this momentum going
Our first match in the National Schools Cup was against Putney High School. Putney was a strong opponent, with us only taking 2 wickets from their batting side. However, our fielding unit was tight and we managed to keep them to a score of 147, which we successfully chased down Our second match was against arch-rivals South Hampstead High School, to whom we narrowly lost to in the Lady Taverners tournament earlier in the season Motivated to redeem ourselves, a greatly competitive game was played Their field was incredibly tight, so our batters had to play a tactical game to score as many runs as possible, and we ended up with a score of 119 for 3 wickets We were consistent on the field, however the result had come down to the final ball and we lost by one run
In the Middlesex Cup, our first match was against St Benedict’s with a comfortable win Our second match was against North London Collegiate This team had a relatively strong batting side, but we were able to take valuable wickets early on in the match which led to our victory Our third match was against Highgate Wood School This match was the most competitive of the Middlesex Cup, with this team being particularly strong in the field, and despite valiant efforts we lost by 41 runs
Overall, this season has been one to remember
