AMNESTY WEEK

Amnesty week occurred from the 16th-20th of June and aimed to spread awareness and contribute to the women's rights movement During Amnesty week we organised a PSHCEE task of completing a "Write for Rights". Our case study was Manahel Al-Otaibi, who was sentenced to 11 years in prison due to 'violating' the Saudi Arabia’s Anti-Cyber Crime Law by not wearing an abaya online and tweeting about women's rights The writing of letters of solidarity was enriching and helped everyone gain wider knowledge on global affairs
During both Monday’s assembly and the Tuesday lecture slot we invited a speaker from Amnesty International, She covered content from current movements around the world to exploring the legal side of women's rights It was an insightful talk that exposed the entire school to the variety of problems faced by women globally and what we can do to help
Towards the end of the week, members of NHEHS Amnesty Youth Group completed a sponsored walk to Richmond to raise money for the charity. The group walked with placards showing support for women ’ s rights And our final event of the week was a decades dress up day, with staff and students dressing up in various outfits representing perseverance of Amnesty throughout the decades

Our experience at the care home was very interesting. We started off with a song to brighten the mood, and the residents really enjoyed it and they were soon humming along. They also really enjoyed showing us some pictures from their childhood One man told us about how he used to be a conductor for an orchestra and showed us some songs He particularly enjoyed listening to us play our instruments like the violin and the clarinet I also along with some other people made some pictures of the residents Soon enough it was time to go - and we sung another song They let us know how much we brightened their day, and they were sad to see us leave Tess N
Days for Girls

On Thursday afternoon I was working with my group to prepare period kits for the charity Days for Girls We spent time folding reusable pads and knickers carefully, making sure everything was neat and ready to be packed Along with these, we included important items like soap bars, mini towels, and washcloths in each kit Knowing that these simple yet essential supplies could make a real difference for girls without easy access to hygiene products was incredibly inspiring As we worked together, we discussed how vital it is for everyone to have the resources needed to manage their periods with dignity and comfort This experience taught me the power of teamwork and how even small actions can have a meaningful impact on people’s lives It also made me more grateful for the things I often take for granted and motivated me to keep supporting causes that help those in need Samara A-J
