Dear North Florida PGA Professionals,
I hope you're doing well. I am excited and honored to take on the role of Executive Director of the North Florida PGA. It was a pleasure meeting many of you at the PGA Show in January, and I hope you had a productive and successful time in Orlando. As I step into this role, I’d like to briefly introduce myself and share how eager I am to support you all in the months and years ahead.
First and foremost, I am passionate about the impact each of you have on the game. Whether you're helping a student improve, creating enjoyable experiences for your members, supporting our veterans through PGA HOPE, or inspiring the next generation through PGA Jr. League, your commitment to advancing the game, and being leaders in the business of golf, is unmatched. I was fortunate enough to have a PGA Professional mentor me early on in my golf journey, and his guidance helped me not only succeed on the course but also shaped my personal values. Thank you for all that you do on a daily basis.
These first few weeks, I’ve been focused on educating myself on all aspects of the Section’s business and getting up to speed with the NFPGA staff. I understand that each of you plays a vital role, and our goal at the Section is to support you to thrive and succeed. We have an exciting year ahead and I am looking forward to the opportunity to serve and work with you.
My door is always open for feedback and discussion, and my focus is to ensure that our business reflects the best interests of our North Florida PGA Professionals. I’m excited for what we can accomplish together and I look forward to seeing you all throughout the year.
Best,
Andrew

Looking at what makes a championship-caliber player, you will find many attributes that mirror what makes a top PGA Professional.
The journey to success always begins with the end goal in mind. The top players know what they are working toward, whether a PGA Tour Victory or a win in a Major Championship. The same goes for the top PGA Professionals; whether as a Head Professional, General Manager, or Director of Instruction, it could include a facility type and region. The high achievers have an idea of what they ultimately want to accomplish. Goals can also be segmented out over a time span whether it be one year, three years, five years, or beyond. They can also change as the individual grows and succeeds over time.
These traits guide the way to reaching the ultimate success of accomplishing the goal that was set forth. Becoming a champion player or a top PGA Professional is not an easy road. There will be good days and bad days, and it takes staying on course to overcome those bad days. Setbacks are a way of life and can be a source of great information and insight that typically help us better understand where we need to grow either as a player or as a PGA Professional. This understanding ultimately leads us to achieve success in the form of achieving the goals we have set.
Having a goal and the dedication and determination to reach that goal leads us to be able to make that journey. That journey for a champion tour player will include countless hours of practice, leading to success in achieving their goals. They will also seek assistance along the way in the form of instructors, trainers, mental coaches, etc… these individuals help them develop their plan in each area and ensure they are practicing and developing the skills they will need to achieve ultimate success. Just as a championship player utilizes a team to help them prepare, practice, and work to incorporate all of the items, PGA Professionals also have a team to assist them. PGA Professionals have mentors, PGA Career Consultants, PGA Education, and other education opportunities. The more we as PGA Professionals educate ourselves on how to make us better professionals, whether by working with fellow Professionals or working with a Career Consultant on career planning, resume building, interview skills, etc… the more ammunition we will have to lead us to a successful career. As we learn more skills and gain knowledge, we must implement those items into our day-to-day actions. All of these items we gain allow us to build ourselves up as professionals and impact our facilities that much more on a day-to-day basis. The more impactful we are, the more employable we become, ultimately allowing us to succeed in our careers.
Championship golfers are never satisfied and continue to pursue success even after achieving it. Once a goal is set and achieved, another goal forms, and the process is started again. Never being satisfied is the driving force behind the success of the Championship Golfer and the top PGA Professional.
PGA Professionals,
Happy New Year!

WHAT SPECIAL AREA DO YOU FEEL YOUR EXPERT IN AND WHAT IS A KEY BEST PRACTICE?
Teaching all parts of the game and playing the game. I love working with juniors and am sensitive to my instruction rate for their families. I work in pods of 4 for the after school hours. I offer a ten week program where they come once a week for the group training and then get a private lesson each month for the three months. They can always add more but this system allows me to see them regularly without breaking their bank. It also allows me to make more per hour. I average $75 more per hour by grouping them together.
PROFESSIONAL GROWTH IS A CONTINUOUS JOURNEY, WHAT IS YOUR SECRET?
I love golf and I love to help people. I am driven to give my students the best information that I can. I hate not knowing the answer but am fortunate that I have Mike Bender in my back pocket whenever needed.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE A YOUNG PGA GOLF PROFESSIONAL?
Find a mentor. I think it is critical to find someone that inspires you and do everything you can to be around them.
