As a teacher of God’s word, the message of the cross, if taught in the fullness of spirit and truth it’s often unappealing to the flesh. I’ve been told that the message should be uplifting and some even desire their time in church to be filled with jokes, so I ask, “Why do you go to Church”? We gather in Christian Fellowship to worship God, not as a place of personal entertainment yet this seems to be the popular thing in these, the last days. We gather in the presence of God and are surrounded by such great a cloud of witnesses as angels’ gaze upon these vessels of flesh who, while having not seen yet still believe. I derive great comfort from the lyrics of the old hymns such as, ‘Blessed Assurance, Jesus is mine! O what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood’. With this truth is resounding within our heart and proclaimed in the Christian gathering I would think we would leave with that sense of peace that surpasses all worldly understanding and sustaining us as we re-enter the world of uncertainty and calamity. As Christians we are to be set apart, we are to be different than those of the world who sway back and forth in belief as a ship caught in the rebellious winds upon the sea. The bible tells us that those in such a state of fluidity have no hope of assurance as there is but one way and the love of the things of the world are not a part of it. The gathering of the faithful is a time of humility with a sense of solitude as faith is of our spirit and soul alone. Understanding of the God of creation and the great sacrifice in the flesh that His only son endured providing the way for us to be born again with the spirit of holiness and righteousness no longer failing the test as the world would tempt. We have free will, free to choose that which is pleasing to God or the flesh. Today, you choose.
