(Acts 1:4-8, wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” … But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”) (Luke 24:49, Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”) Wait, what is our reaction when we hear that we will have to wait for something? This portion of scripture is recalling Jesus as He informs the faithful to ‘Wait’ for the promise from the Father. Yes, wait for the gift of power and might from the Holy Spirit. How many times do we go to God in prayer with the anticipation of hearing His voice or witnessing a response to our prayers in the here and now, without even thinking of waiting patiently to hear His voice? Jesus rose from the dead on the celebration of ‘first fruits’ and walked this earth for 40 days upon which He instructed the faithful to go to Jerusalem and ‘wait’ for the gift of God in power and might. I like that, God giving us spiritual strength through the Holy Spirit who brings forth the promise by guiding us in all truth. The Holy Spirit is about the business of convicting the world of sin, of righteousness and eternal judgement to come. What a glorious time when we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit and His word comes alive within our heart and mind. This celebration coincides with Pentecost and comes fifty days after first fruits and commemorates the gift of the Ten Commandments through Moses on Mt Sinai. The gift of God in all its fullness available to us today when we enter the prayer of faith and patiently wait to be endued with power from upon high. Jesus fulfilled the celebration of Unleavened bread

~OBITUARY~ MAX “TOOT” JENNINGS

March 25, 1943 v May 20, 2024

Max (Toot) Jennings passed away at home Monday, May 20, 2024 at the age of 81, with his wife by his side. He was born in a rural farmhouse to Virgil Francis Jennings and Helen Gyneth (Kerns) Jennings on March 25, 1943, in Bethany, Missouri. Max was a member of the Ridgeway Baptist

Max married the love of his life, Kathy Collen Wright on October 21,1971. In addition to his wife Kathy, Max is survived by his children Barry (Heather) Jennings, and Troy (Kelly) Jennings, Virgil Todd (Terri) Jennings, Kelly (Jeff) Cook, Brian (Shelia) Jennings, Donald Hank (Becky) Jennings, Marina (Andre) Reimers, as well as his two sisters, Sharon Lee Jennings and Joyce

Ann Hudson. He had a total of 21 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Over the span of many years, Max and Kathy built many businesses from the ground up. Max’s talents consisted of selling cars, produce, antiques, and trailer loads of horse-drawn buggies and wagons, gathering friends of every variety. Max truly enjoyed spending his time traveling, going to auctions, finding the most unique items to sell and trade. Over the years, Max made connections with people from all over the world, many of whom were considered family. He was a steadfast and loyal friend.

Nearly all of us came to know him affectionately as “Toot”. This was in reflection of one of his proudest achievements, the creation of the Toot-Toot Family Restaurant, founded in 1984. He was often heard saying “Everything is for sale but the COOK!” which always brought a smile to Kathy’s face. Toot was so proud that the restaurant has become a gathering place for so many of Bethany’s families, and is known far and wide for its welcoming atmosphere and home-cooked meals.

Rather than a funeral service, Max’s wish was for a Celebration of Life, and a gathering of friends and family at his home at 505 S 28th St in Bethany in remembrance of him. Please join us in celebrating the life of Max Jennings from 5 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, July 2nd. He will be greatly missed by all. Online condolences may be left at www.robersonfuneralhome.com.

JAMES “JIM” ARTHUR REESE

June 18, 1937 ❖ February 18, 2024

James “Jim” Arthur Reese, aged 86, of Albany, MO, departed peacefully on February 18th, 2024. Throughout his adventurous life, Jim cultivated close-knit communities with his gift for fun and love of life. His ability to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, inviting others to share in moments of fellowship, camaraderie, (and always a dance, of course!) combined with genuine care and willingness to invest himself wholeheartedly in those who crossed his path, leave an indelible mark on the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Born on June 18th, 1937, in Marshall, MN, Jim was the eldest child of Warren Larson Reese and Eva Sarah (Schroeder)

Reese. He gleaned so much from his parents, whose home was built on a Christian foundation, family togetherness, a strong work ethic, and service to others. Upon graduating from high school in 1955, Jim pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, earning a Bachelor of Agricultural Engineering degree with a minor in Business Administration. His time at the university was marked by several leadership roles. It was during his college years that he met and married Joanne (Korte), the love of his life.

The Trane Company of LaCrosse, WI, hired Jim out of college. He and Joanne were blessed with four children, a farm, and horses. Jim’s career began with engineering sales followed by various positions in management. In 1971, following a collaboration with HVAC pioneer Frank Dean, Jim accepted a position as president and COO of Temperature Industries Corporation in Kansas City, MO. In 1985, he became Chairman and CEO and shortly thereafter orchestrated a management leveraged buyout of the company and eventual sale to York International in 1989. He held several positions with York, a number of those years spent in England. In 2004, Jim left York and he co-started Air Fixture and Walnut Manufacturing to design and manufacture innovative ductless air distribution systems until his retirement in 2010 at their dream farm in Albany, MO.

Throughout his life, Jim contributed his vibrant leadership and enthusiasm by serving in many organizations, including the Minnesota National Guard; Elder, Presbyterian Church; past Chairman of the Board - Heart of America Job Therapy; Past Kansas City CARE Committee Head; Charter member of Chuck Colson’s Prison Fellowship; Rotary Club 13 - Paul Harris Fellow; Regional Board of Directors – Mercantile Bank, Kansas City, MO; Board of Directors of Feteris Mercantile International, The Hague, Netherlands; M-2 (Man to Man) Prison Inmate sponsor; Board of Directors - K Life; Promise Keepers; Board of Directors - Hope Mission Outreach, Bethany, MO; 11 missions trips to Haiti; past Chairman - New Hampton Christian Church; member of Albany First Baptist; charter member of New Beginnings Church, Albany, MO.

Jim lived life fully and passionately, squeezing every drop out of each moment, smiling his big fun-loving grin all the way. He enjoyed traveling, adventure, meeting people, tackling any challenge before him. He was generous and forgiving, caring more about helping others than worldly success. He loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, his family and the incredible friends along the way.

In every chapter of his life, Jim’s relationships were a testament to his genuine warmth, generosity, and unwavering loyalty. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched, an example of the power of faith and friendship and the profound impact one individual can have on the world around them.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Eva Reese; his parentsin-law, Bill and Wanda Korte; his dear brother, Bill Reese and his precious daughterin-law, Rose Reese. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joanne; two daughters and their spouses, Cindy (Raymond) Russell of Henderson, TX, Andrea (Karl) Wagner of Prairie Village, KS; two sons, Curt Reese of Olathe, KS and Chris Reese of Stillwell, KS. He was blessed with 7 grandchildren, starting with their first grandchild, Shanon (Jeff) Sieb, followed by Reese (Scarlette) Wagner, Amanda Russell, Sophie Wagner, Shaffer Russell, and Kaylee and Ava Reese; and 4 great-grandchildren, Chris Buscemi, Julia Buscemi, Sam Buscemi, and Riverton Wagner. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Ogle (Dr. Dick) of Lakeville, MN, Marylin Webber (Jon) of Simsbury, CT, and Susie Freng (Paul) of Miltona, MN; sister-in-law Judy Reese of Alexandria, MN; sister-in-law Carolyn (Korekiyo) Terada of Fukuoka, Japan, brotherin-law Mark (Renee) Korte of Ione, CA; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

An informal celebration of Jim’s life was held on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Lenexa Baptist Church, 15320 W 87th St Parkway, Lenexa, KS 66219. Memorial Service: 11:00 AM Saturday, June 15, 2024 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany, MO.
