The Island City Christian & Calvary Stanberry Churches

(John 2:14-16 And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. And He said to those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!”) As recorded in the gospel of John at the beginning of the earthly ministry of Jesus; He would enter the temple on Passover week and cast out the things that did not belong in the house of God. The interesting thing about this act is that some 3-1/2 years later, on the last week of his earthly ministry Jesus would do the exact same thing as recorded in the other three gospels. There are a couple of things well worth noting: Jesus is aware that there were things going on that distract from the reason we gather of which one is financial gain for profits sake alone. This happens all the time and is praised for achieving financial goals in the name of the lord. The first thing noted by Jesus was that which does not belong in the gathering of believers and is then followed by the true reason we gather and recorded in the other three gospels during the beginning of Passover week. All four gospels are similar yet the three add: (My house shall be called a house of prayer,). As we prepare to leave our homes to gather in the house of the Lord, we should take time to pray, take time to ask the Lord to prepare our hearts and minds to be receptive to the unction of the Holy Spirit as received through the Word of God, the Holy Bible. Be warned as the Bible tells of a church quite active in social programs and attentive to false doctrine but had become distracted from the purpose we gather in the house of the Lord (Rev 2:4, Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.) This was recorded for us as involvement in the business of doing church can distract from the main reason we gather in worship of our Lord Jesus Christ. In the Love of Jesus.
