SPOTLIGHT PREFERRED CHARITY: PEDIATRIC TRAUMA PROGRAM The Pediatric Trauma Program was established by the Kiwanis CNH Foundation and aims to reduce the number of children who are killed or injured by trauma.
EDITOR’S note
HAPPY NOVEMBER PIRATE PENGUINS! I felt like this month went by super fast, but I think that’s a good thing because we’re almost a couple days away from Thanksgiving break! I hope that during your time on break you can all get a chance to relax and spend time with your family members. This year might feel a little weird celebrating the holidays since we aren’t able to go out and enjoy outdoor festivities due to the pandemic, but I hope you guys are all still able to find joy in the holiday spirit. I love this time of the year because it’s always filled with good vibes and good food! I’m also super thankful that my family has been able to stay well despite everything going on. The end of this month also marks the deadline for UC applications! To all the seniors applying, I want to wish you guys the best of luck! I know most of us will probably be spending this break time finishing up our applications but again please remember to take breaks and to take care of your mental health! We’re almost done so let’s hang in there just a little while longer! Thank you for reading this month’s newsletter! I hope you all enjoyed reading it. LTG’S LETTER What’s Waddlin’ Division 19 North? Hopefully everyone got a bit of candy and kept the Halloween spirit by either dressing up or scaring your siblings. Although we are celebrating things very different this year, you have made it feel the same as always. I am always so excited to serve and guide you through the wonderful opportunities we’ve had. To be honest, we haven’t had too many events or fundraisers, but I can promise you that we are trying our best to be different. We want to supply a variety of service events online and ways we can fundraise for charities. We have fundraiser over $200 with just 2 online fundraisers. To me, that’s pretty impressive. Let’s keep up the amazing work and let’s be prepared to get through anything together! We have a few events coming up and my goal is to help educate all members and officers. Please stay tuned for training conferences and my own personal goals that I will try to achieve by the end of this year. Until then, let’s keep serving!

ANGELA DELGADO| LAWNDALE PRESIDENT
In the month of October, some of Lawndale High School’s Key Club members got to attend the DCM where we listened to a presentation against drunk driving. In the club meeting Lawndale had after the DCM, we all stated that we learned about how drinking and driving, along with street racing and distracted driving, leads to serious accidents and that we would never take part in those actions. We all agreed that listening and sharing stories helps spread awareness and prevent more accidents from happening. After taking some time to reflect on this insightful presentation, our members got to socialize and play Among Us with other Key Club members in our division!

For the month of October, CAMS Key Club held the Halloween Grams service project, where members colored and designed Halloween cards and pop-up books for pediatric patients. After collecting numerous Halloween Grams, CAMS Key Club shipped them to a local hospital to surprise and bring joy to pediatric patients in the community—just in time for Halloween! 7
CAMS | CELESTE GASTELUM During the month of October, CAMS Key Club held service projects to help create crafts to send to pediatric patients at Harbor UCLA. Members created pumpkin, ghost, bat and other halloween themed origami. CAMS Key Club also held a service project where members created Halloween themed grams and pop-up books. This month, CAMS also held its first Interclub event with Gardena Key Club. To keep with the spooky theme, CAMS and Gardena held a Color-A-Smile Movie Night where members colored coloring pages to be sent to Senior Citizens and Troops overseas while watching Coraline. With November quickly approaching, CAMS plans ahead with future drives and projects to serve our communities.

For the month of October, Da Vinci Key Club attended the October DCM to receive monthly updates with the division, and our participation has improved significantly and we’re so proud of our members! Our club also held a Joint Penguin Social event with all three schools on Zoom with rooms that consisted of: watching a movie while working on their current service project which is Halloween grams for teachers, and playing games to bond with other key clubbers such as Among Us and Jackbox. Other rooms were more Key Club-related as one was to learn the cheers for Spring Rally South, and another to learn more about Key Club and the benefits for the future and college. Our board has been brainstorming different ideas to guide our current and new members to success, while developing more meeting and service project ideas.
GARDENA| CHRISTIAN VIRATA
During the month of October, our club board members joined in on Gardena High School’s Town Hall meetings to get students interested in joining our club, as well as to get volunteers for our upcoming Blood Drive. As this month Halloween is held indoors Gardena and CAMS Key Club hosted an interclub event, where members colored festive coloring pages to be sent in hopes of putting smiles on the faces of Troops overseas and Senior Citizens. As we gained a few new members, we have been playing mini-games such as among us to bond with our members after meetings.
HAWTHORNE| BRIAN DSOUZA
Ahoy Pirate Penguins! In the month of October, a lot of good things came into our club this month! To begin with, we have finally locked in our new advisor, Mr. Morejon. We were also able to have new members join Key Club, ranging from all grade levels! We are happy to announce we currently have about 30 members total including cabinet! We are also supremely grateful for our Kiwanis Advisor, Rick Carver, for sponsoring up to 50 members for our term this year! As we were able to finally get our membership form done and turned in, we have started our first event! Members wrote Halloween themed letters to the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. To help everyone get to know each other a little better, we also held a social night where members played Among Us. Our club is also happy to announce we will be participating in the event, Recycling for PTP, where members turn in recyclables into their local recycling center. With that money raised, we will be donating this to PTP! Other than that, we hope for November to be a pleasant month for our club!

HMSA| SOPHIA CASTELLANOS & PABLO GARCÍA HEYYYOOO, how's it going Penguins!!! So for the month of October, we had a few events happen. First off we had some more meetings about some future events that were planned. We made sure to tell members to participate in the Division 19 North October DCM. We planned an among us game in the last week of October. We encourage members to bring friends so they could also have fun as well. We did have some rules in place like you need to have a mic so you could communicate to others when we had in game meetings and we also had members have their cameras on so it could feel like we were all together as we played. We also had a vote to see if members wanted to do something like another game like among us or anything in general. That's all for this month Penguins, remember to social distance and to be safe during this time. Also stay frosty and be chill!!
LAWNDALE | ANGELA DELGADO Hello Pirate Penguins! Throughout October, Lawndale Key Club’s Board continued to recruit members for our Charity Miles team along with that of our division. The Students Run Los Angeles Club at Lawndale High participated in a 10k race and to show our support to them while simultaneously serving charities, we encouraged our members to walk, run, or bike 6 miles on that same day. Thanks to our advisor, we found out about Trick-Or-Treating for UNICEF, a fundraiser started by the Key Club organization. Trick-Or-Treating for UNICEF allows students to participate in activities and watch videos to earn bonus points, which can be replaced with resources to donate to children around the world. Our members were able to earn service hours by playing the videos in a different tab on their computer while doing homework so they could earn bonus points while being productive. This event was very successful and we will definitely look into finding similar opportunities.

Hello Pirate Penguins! In the month of October, Santa Monica Key Club stayed consistent with club meetings and brainstormed tons of ideas for virtual service! We held a general meeting every Tuesday of the month as well as one officer meeting every Friday. Starting off the month on October 6th, our club held a general meeting to follow up on the Art Supplies Drive and update members on our progress. We then held a meeting the following week to read the responses we received from workers at the Atria Senior Living Home. Just last Tuesday, we announced our movie event happening this weekend via Zoom and our next service event writing letters to children in the hospital. Our board has been working hard to make Key Club a safe and accessible experience given the circumstances and we are optimistic of the months to come! We hope everyone is staying safe, healthy, and happy.

Trick or Treat! Leuzinger started off the month of October by contacting our Kiwanis club in Hawthorne to help out with our membership fees. The result was unexpected as they agreed to pay for 50 members! It helped us get that concern moved out of the way and focus on different matters, such as events and fundraisers. We were also finally approved by our ASB to host a digital fundraiser with Krispy Kremes! It took a longer then expected as we had to clear and work out everything with the district and the school. We also partnered with Math Club again to help out people who need help in math. We also went to this month’s DCM which hosted a driving presentation and played a game of Among Us!

My favorite holiday food has to be Thanksgiving turkey. Since I’m the one usually making it, it was always so rewarding to eat it right after preparing it for 5 hours. My secret to make the best turkey is to cover it with bacon and spray it with apple cider vinegar during oven time to prevent dryness.

FUNDS COMMISSIONER I love all holiday foods, but my favorites are pumpkin pie, ham with cranberry sauce, and sweet potato casserole. I also enjoy Vietnamese food eaten during special occasions like sticky rice and banh bot loc, a savory tapioca dumpling wrapped in banana leaves.

My favorite holiday foods are dark chocolate peppermint bark and green bean casserole. I stock up on peppermint bark in order to get through the winter.

Hey Penguins! During the holidays there's no better way to celebrate than with holiday traditions. My family has quite a few traditions but my favorite is making Tamales and drinking Chocolate Abuelita. One of my favorite traditions growing up would be staying up until midnight on Christmas eve, to open presents, instead of waiting until the next morning. of course, being a little kid, I would grow more impatient and eager to open presents every year, and i still carry that trait to this day, which is why this is one of my favorite holiday traditions.
