EDITOR’S note

HAPPY MARCH PENGUINS!

I can’t believe that we’re already nearing the end of the term! Despite the term being virtual this year, it was amazing to see all of you grow into the leaders of your community despite the circumstances. Don’t forget that service is all around us and I know you are all capable of making positive impacts to those around you! With the start of March, daylight savings has also began and I hope you all have been able to adjust to the time change. With the extra hour of sunlight, I hope you all can enjoy more evening walks with your family, sunsets with your friends, or any outdoor activity you wanted to do. To all the seniors, many college decisions come out this month. Although this time can be very scary and nerve-racking, no matter what the outcome is, remember to be proud of yourself and all that you have achieved. Thank you for reading this month’s newsletter! I hope you all enjoyed reading it. If you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to let me know. Good luck and stay ICY.

LTG’S LETTER Hey Pirate Penguins! I guess it’s time to say goodbye. It’s been a wonderful term and an amazing journey. Being a freshman, I would have never imagined myself becoming a Lieutenant Governor. It has been such an incredible key club experience to be a part of Division 19 North. I want to thank each and every one of you for being there for me as a member and as a Lieutenant Governor. The future of Division 19 North is in amazing hands and I encourage all of you to have the motivation and passion to run for leadership positions in the future. Whether it’s Secretary, Executive Assistant, or Lieutenant Governor, all of you have the potential to be successful at anything you do. It’s often hard for me to say goodbye. I won’t make it emotional or sad, but I will say one thing. These 4 years have been an absolute roller coaster for me. Now, I am finally finished. These 4 years will be all memories for me now. So thank you Division 19 North for making such amazing memories with me. And lastly, goodbye.

SALLY HOANG| CAMS CO-VICE PRESIDENT

For the month of February, CAMS Key Club attended the February Division Council Meeting led by Ryan Son. At this month’s meeting, members were able to receive multiple division updates such as things about DCON, Spring Rally South, and future announcements. Members were also able to hear Julie Mai recapping how the division newsletter is a way to stay engaged and informed about Key Club. Overall, all members had a great time at the February DCM!


ELECTIONS

SALLY HOANG| CAMS CO-VICE PRESIDENT

For the month of February, CAMS Key Club hosted club elections. All members were able to come and participate in the selection for the upcoming officers. During the meeting, members could hear the different speeches and caucus sessions that were presented by the candidates from each officer position. They were also able to vote for their upcoming board if they were dues paid members. As a result, CAMS Key Club is proud to announce the official members that will be installed at the upcoming DCON in April. We are excited to see how the future of CAMS Key Club will excel with the new officers!

CARDS

CHARLES NGUYEN| LEUZINGER PRESIDENT

For the month of February, our club hosted an event where we create valentine cards for the St. Judes hospital. This event is where we write a one-page letter to the patients thanking them, encouraging them, and being grateful towards them. We decided to choose this event because it relates to the current situation today as the pandemic has forced a lot of hospitals to deal with the massive incomes of patients and we know that it is a lot of work. The patients have been through a lot of things that we may not have experienced yet and giving them a few words of encouragement or making them smile is just something that can really help in a time like this. Even though very few members attended this event, it was a fun thing to write and participate in as we know that it may just make someone’s day :)

CAMS | CELESTE GASTELUM In the past month, CAMS Key Club participated in service projects aiding the environment and school community. Members had the opportunity to plant trees by answering trivia questions and sending letters of appreciation to CAMS staff and teachers. Service wasn’t CAMS’ only focus in February; elections were a top priority as well. Members had the chance to graciously accept or respectfully decline nominations to run for an officer position. Soon after members gathered on Zoom to vote and witness the elections of the next CAMS Key Club Board. We are beyond proud of all candidates and cannot wait to see what extraordinary things they accomplish come the new term!

DA VINCI | ALYSSA HUBLER

Ahoy penguins!! In the month of February, we were preparing for club elections for the 2021-2022 term. During meetings we reminded members that elections were coming up and encouraged them to try to run for a position. We also held a Club Officer Training Conference with Lawndale Key Club! This meeting was required for members who had any interest in running for a position. We discussed each role and answered any questions members were still wondering about. We just had our election on March 5th. Congrats to our new elected candidates. :)

GARDENA| CHRISTIAN VIRATA During the month of February, Gardena Keyclub hosted a general meeting on February 12th where we discussed how our school’s Upward Bound College Program reached out to our club to help out with their presentation and member recruitment. Members who participated reached out to underclassmen in hopes of them joining a college program that will help them choose or have an idea on their career paths. Towards the end of the month, our club then worked together with our Kiwanis advisor, Ms. Barrera to organize an event with her non-profit One-For-All Kids (OFA) to have our club members help tutor elementary students who would appreciate some help.

HMSA| SOPHIA CASTELLANOS & PABLO GARCÍA

Hey fellow penguins, during the month of February, We had four meetings and a board meeting to discuss new business. Our club has brainstormed ideas to engage with other D19N school clubs such as mental health awareness videos and “Project Helping Hand” - a grant project to create care packages for the homeless. Sophia Castellanos will be presenting “Project Helping Hand'' during March. Our club has also scheduled a fundraiser at Chipotle for March 14th. The club is also preparing for the upcoming club elections where we encourage newcomers to become a part of the board. We hope everyone is doing well! Stay safe & icy!

LAWNDALE | ANGELA DELGADO

LEUZINGER| CHARLES NGUYEN Hello everybody! For the month of February, Leuzinger Key Club has talked about how our term was coming to an end and had a meeting to see if anyone was interested in running for a position. We also had an event which was writing a letter to St. Jude for valentines day which a couple of members participated in. It was an interesting event and we may also plan to release some merchandise if the members are interested in buying it. All in all, it was a fun month!

Greetings Pirate Penguins! Lawndale Key Club’s February was quite eventful! Despite having few meetings because there was no school for several Mondays, our club members got the opportunity to participate in several service events. As always, Charity Miles is a great way for our penguins to earn hours, and we continued to encourage members to write letters to our country’s soldiers, medical workers, and firefighters through the websites Write-A-Soldier and Letters for Leaders. With the holiday on the 14th, our Key Club members also got to write Valentine cards to patients of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Closer to the end of the month, Lawndale Key Club also had an interclub Officer Training Conference with Da Vinci Key Club, and any member who was interested in running for a position was invited to attend to learn more about the responsibilities. We had our election on February 22nd and are super excited to see what the future board members will accomplish. Congratulations to the elected candidates!
