SPOTLIGHT PREFERRED CHARITY: CHILDREN’S MIRACLE NETWORK (CMN) is a nonprofit organization that raises money to benefit hospitalized kids and increases awareness of its member hospitals.

HAPPY DECEMBER PIRATE PENGUINS!
Can you believe that the year is almost coming to an end? This year has been one huge rollercoaster but hopefully the new year brings in a lot of good luck and prosperity for you all. As we continue to stay in quarantine, I hope you all have been staying safe and staying healthy. Remember when you go out, to always wear your masks and to wash your hands often! Winter break has also just begun wooooo! I hope that during your time on break you can all get a chance to relax and spend time with your family members. This year might feel a little weird celebrating the holidays since we aren’t able to go out and enjoy outdoor festivities due to the pandemic, but I hope you guys are all still able to find joy in the holiday spirit. I love this time of the year because it’s always filled with good vibes and good food! I’m also super thankful that my family has been able to stay well despite everything going on. The end of this month also means that seniors are nearing the end of the college application process! Good luck to all the seniors who are still applying and remember to take breaks! Thank you for reading this month’s newsletter! I hope you all enjoyed reading it. If you have any questions or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to let me know. Good luck and stay ICY.

LTG’S LETTER Happy Holidays Everyone! Wow! Time flies by in a blink of an eye! It’s already the Holiday Season of 2020. I remember when most of us would question how Key Club will continue during the pandemic, but here we are! We made it! We were able to raise over $300 for charities just through virtual events. We were able to produce over 100 service hours this year. We were also able to continue to change lives and make a lasting impact in our communities. It has been such an honor being a leader and witness of such huge achievements. Although this year has been extremely different from previous years, it has been an honor to be able to serve everyone and lead us to multiple victories. As we close this year off with joyful memories, I want to say that my happiest memory was every time I was able to host a Zoom Meeting with over 50 participants eager to serve in Key Club. Please stay safe and have a wonderful holiday season!

ANGELA DELGADO| LAWNDALE PRESIDENT
In the month of November, Lawndale High School’s Key Club attended our division’s DCM, where we were accompanied by schools from Division 19 South. Everyone who attended had a great time and meeting new people during Thanksgiving break was a nice way of spending our Saturday evening. After taking attendance and hearing the announcements, we got to participate in a service event. We were given time to an write an encouraging letter to a soldier which is a very kind thing to do and something we’ll be doing during one of our club meetings as well! After that, we were put into breakout rooms with a random group of people and played 2 fun rounds of Skribblio! The Lawndale Key Club members that attended the DCM all agreed that it was very entertaining and relaxing. We thank our division leaders for putting together such an enjoyable event!
THANKSGIVING SERVICE WEEK SALLY HOANG| CAMS CO-VICE PRESIDENT
For the month of November, CAMS Key Club hosted a Thanksgiving service week where members were able to participate in service projects through November 23-27. On Memory Monday, members posted their favorite key club event and participated in a UNICEF Math service project. For Toddler Tuesday, members posted a picture of themselves as a toddler and did the Free Rice service project. Then Workmate Wednesday, members posted a picture with their Key Club friends and participated in the Bean Bean Bean service project. For Thankful Thursday, members posted something they are thankful for to honor Thanksgiving Day. Last, but not least was Free Friday where members would have a day to do any service project from the week!
CAMS DONATION DRIVE ANGELA FRANCISCO & SELENA ZHANG CAMS CO-HISTORIAN
For the month of November, CAMS Key Club hosted a donation drive. Members were able to drop off kitchen and house needs to a park near CAMS. A total of 8 members participated in the event and it was successful overall! 7

During the month of November, CAMS Key Club focused on helping senior citizens and communities. Members wrote positive and heartwarming letters to seniors in retirement homes. Key Clubbers also donated canned goods and other items to the Long Beach Rescue Mission aiding local neighborhoods. CAMS Key Club hosted a thanksgiving break service week where members aided communities and charities worldwide through online websites such as Bean Bean Bean, Free Rice and UNICEF Math Challenge. This month, CAMS submitted the first part of Club Dues to KCI as Early Bird Dues and hopes to submit the second part soon. As the year nears its end, CAMS hopes to be able to continue service projects and hopefully one day, eventually, return to in person events/projects.
DA VINCI | ALYSSA HUBLER
Ahoy penguins!! In the month of November, we had six members attend November DCM and five attend Long Beach’s circle K. Our Kiwanis club sent a check regarding our dues. Da Vinci Key Club has also started to prepare for a community service event with El Segundo’s Key Club which will be in the month of December. The event is themed Winter Wonderland, and members have drawn out and sent us ideas for this event. We had a meeting with El Segundo to plan how we want to work together.
GARDENA| CHRISTIAN VIRATA & RYAN NGUYEN
Hello, Pirate Penguins, During the month of November, Gardena Key Club has mainly focused on two things; getting signups for our UCLA Blood Drive and collecting Club Dues. Members were given the task of getting volunteers to donate blood. The minimum volunteers of donators were separated based on grade level. Seniors were given the task of getting a minimum of two people to sign up, and underclassmen were to bring one volunteer. To conclude the Blood Drive, we totaled about 30 volunteers who donated blood. During the second half of November Gardena began collecting the first wave of Club Dues. We will then submit any additional dues in the future. Hopefully, with high hopes, we are looking forward to having in-person events in the future.
HAWTHORNE| BRIAN DSOUZA
Ahoy Pirate Penguins! In the month of November, Hawthorne Key Club was not able to participate in that many events due to the increase of numbers of COVID. However, our members and cabinet has been continuing on with the Recyclables for PTP events along with clubs from up north. This event aims to fundraise money through recycling plastic, aluminum and glass bottles/cans only. All of the proceeds will go towards PTP. So far, members have been collecting plastic bottles and will be recycling them soon. Other than that, Hawthorne High School has also attended the November DCM with D19S Beastie Bunnies. During the DCM, members were able to write Letters to Troops virtually, where we thanked them for their service and wrote small messages of positivity and motivation. Along with that, we are happy to announce that our faculty advisor, Mr. Morejon, received advisor of the month for November!

HMSA| SOPHIA CASTELLANOS & PABLO GARCÍA Hey Penguins! For the month of November, HMSA had 3 meetings. HMSA Club board met 3 times as well to go over new ideas and plans for the following weeks. HMSA Key Club is happy to have all its dues paid and finalized. During the duration of our meetings, the board has been playing games with the members such as scribbl.io. Our club is committed to staying active and cheery despite our current online platform. HMSA Key Club is excited to begin advocating for the Ocean Conservancy Organization which helps create a platform for peer review of government policies for the ocean. We plan to help by cleaning the oceans and by spreading awareness about how the oceans are being affected/neglected by governments. Our club is also going to contribute to the St. Judes Hospital by creating Christmas cards. HMSA Key Club is looking forward to the Pirate Penguin fun to come! Stay safe & icy!
LAWNDALE | ANGELA DELGADO
Hey Pirate Penguins! In the month of November, Lawndale Key Club wrapped up our Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF event that started on October 12th and ended on November 5th. We’re proud to say that the people who participated in the virtual activities contributed to over 1,500 bonus points, earning us more than $250 for the UNICEF charity. We were also given the opportunity to choose how the funds we raised would be spent. Twenty dollars were able to buy 100 bars of soap, forty dollars bought a round of vaccines for a child, and $185 went to buying school supplies for 40 children. It’s really satisfying to see how taking a little bit of time out of your day to do something kind for another person can have such a huge impact. Lastly, we also started writing letters to motivate soldiers during the holidays. We’ll continue to do this throughout the month of December hoping to lift the spirits of the people who serve our country.

Happy late Thanksgiving everyone! For the month of November, Leuzinger Key Club had several meetings that talked over our current situation and lack of events due to COVID-19 and news about our fundraiser for the month of December. We also attended a joint DCM with Division 19 South and had a little bit more members join than the previous time! Just like I mentioned in the article, we are planning on doing merchandise with masks and may/may not use them for our fundraiser. We are still waiting on an update from Kiwanis to see if they have paid for the 49 members so we can get our club registered. Hopefully, they’ll be in by the end of next December!
Hello pirate penguins! For the month of November, Santa Monica Key Club unfortunately only held two general meetings due to our Thanksgiving break. In those two meetings, we announced our food drive in partnership with the Westside Food Bank and collected our membership dues. We also used a program to collectively write down personal affirmations or goals for service and our club really enjoyed talking about how to best help our community. This month was short for Key Club but we’re expecting a great outcome for our food drive. We hope everyone is safe and healthy.

Donation drives for food, clothing, toys, hygiene products or other items is the perfect service event despite the current circumstances. Products donated can help many people in our communities especially during this time. In addition, setting up a drop off location for your members can help ensure that everyone can continue serving safely!

Grams are a perfect way to show your gratitude to those around you while continuing to serve virtually. Grams are small messages that can be sent to healthcare workers, veterans, and senior citizens. Members can write messages along with drawings from home and mail them out to organizations that accept the grams.
3. SERVICE ONLINE
Although we are not able to serve in person, there are still many opportunities to service virtually! There are apps such as Charity Miles where you can earn service hours by exercising or Free Rice where you can answer vocabulary questions to help relieve world hunger. Members can also solve math problems on unicefusa.org to help raise money to send children in poverty to school.
