EDITOR’S note What’s Poppin Pirate Penguins?
I hope you guys have been staying safe and healthy throughout this pandemic! Although we have been in quarantine for most of our term, I am so proud of everyone for continuing to attend our DCMs and participating in region, division, and club service events! You all are doing an amazing job in showcasing how important service is even in this pandemic. It also goes to show that service can truly be done anywhere! Aside from service, college season has also officially begun, and I would like to wish good luck to all the seniors applying to college! The FAFSA and CSS profile both opened, so make sure to turn those in as soon as possible for your financial aid. If any of you are also deciding to apply for early action or decision, those deadlines are coming up soon, so make sure you get that done as well! I know that college season can be super stressful, so don’t forget to take time for yourself to rest when things get too hectic. We’re almost halfway done, so hang in there a little while longer! LTG’S LETTER What’s Waddlin’ Pirate Penguins? It’s officially spooky season coming up and while we all hope that Halloween isn’t cancelled, let’s serve to our fullest and eat tons of candy after! It is also officially Among Us season meaning that members and officers can play Among Us to bond with each other and make friends from all over the Region/Division! I would like everyone to know that you are doing a wonderful job so far in attending events and participating in what the Division has stored for us! This past month, we held Region Training Conference through the wonderful Zoom Platform. Although it was online, the Lieutenant Governors and Advisors were happy to see everyone there! We hope all of you learned and have set plans for the future in your Key Club career! This past month was a short but action-packed month. Thank you for being such a wonderful division so far!

ANGELA DELGADO| LAWNDALE PRESIDENT
In the month of September, Lawndale High School’s Key Club didn’t host any events, but we were able to have our first meeting of the year! While we were recruiting members during club rush, we encouraged interested students to attend the September DCM. During the DCM, we talked about the Thirst Project and discussed possible events we could have to raise funds for building wells. Then, we went into breakout rooms and were taught Division 19 North’s cheer that promotes spirit and shows the pride we have in our division! Our board members are looking forward to teaching the cheer to new Key Club members next meeting.
ORIGAMI SERVICE PROJECT CLUB RUSH AKHIL ATLURI| CAMS CO-VICE PRESIDENT
For the month of September, CAMS Key Club designed a presentation rich in aesthetics and valuable Key Club knowledge for the first virtual club rush in school history. More than 70 members joined the call—excited to learn about the organization. Our webmaster, Tuan, relieved the room with fun icebreakers inspired by our school AP Spanish teacher. Finally, we congratulated our September Member of the Month—Kyla Daez—for her commitment and enthusiasm and as a new pirate penguin. 7
CAMS | CELESTE GASTELUM

During the month of September, CAMS Key Club, prepared for Club Rush and participated in various division events. Many CAMS members attended the Division’s Coloring/Movie Night social, where they watched and served their communities together, and participated in the Division’s Service Weekend by spending time on Free, Rice, Charity miles and writing letters to healthcare workers. In order to prepare for virtual club rush, CAMS created a presentation to show members all about Key Club and had lots of new and returning members sign up for Key Club; at the first club meeting, we had over 70 members in attendance. To wrap up the month and kick off the spooky season CAMS is holding a halloween themed origami service project (and crafts will be given to pediatric patients.) With the spooky season approaching quickly CAMS plans service projects and events for the next month.
DA VINCI | ALYSSA HUBLER
Ahoy penguins!! In the month of September, Da Vinci had their online club fair, having multiple people from all 3 schools sign up for Key Club. Each school had its first Key Club meeting of the year. We met and got to know new members with ice breaks like Hot Seat. We also had our first member of the month from Da Vinci Communications. Our Key Club team introduced service projects like Charity Miles and Deedly. Both Charity Miles and Deedly are apps that give members service hours. Charity Miles lets members get hours by biking, running, or walking while Deedly lets members get hours after watching videos and doing short activities. Members also signed up to be pen pals with members from Gardena Key Club. Lastly, we introduced Division 19 North cheers to new members. We plan on reviewing the cheers step by step next meeting.
GARDENA| CHRISTIAN VIRATA
In the month of September, Gardena Key Club welcomed new members who were introduced into the club from our school’s weekly Tuesday town hall meetings. Gardena then created a presentation to engage new members and inform all about Key Club. During the meeting, went over the ongoing events such as signing up for a Da Vinci penpal, Drive Through Drop off of food cans and clothes, and our upcoming UCLA Blood Drive. To wrap up the first official club meeting we played among us with members in hopes for more club engagement. Overall, during this month we were more focused on working on our communication with our Kiwanis advisor and school advisor.
HAWTHORNE| BRIAN DSOUZA
Ahoy Pirate Penguins! In the month of September, Hawthorne High Key Club has started to promote the club to the students of Hawthorne through our school’s Club Rush event that they held through google meeting. For our club rush, we created two slides, one explaining what Key Club is and what we do as a club, and another slide that showed pictures from both service and social events from the past. A new thing that we are finally glad to announce is that we have found a new club advisor! He is currently one of the AP Calc teachers who has been interested in helping out the community as well in a time like this and wanted to help students as well since he is also an AVID teacher. Some closing remarks I’d like to state is that we will be hosting our first club meeting on 10/1, where we hope to have new members join and learn more about Key Club as a whole. We are also planning on working with the rest of CNH with a new service event known as Recyclables for PTP, which is still in the works until late Oct-Nov.

Heyyoo fellow penguins!! During the month of September, HMSA Key Club has stayed active with its board members and club members by having our weekly meetings and having discussion about future events. Due to Covid-19, one of our meetings, decided to play a Kahoot on Zoom which was about Key Club itself and which also had members in breakout rooms discussing the right answers. In each breakout room, there was an officer who helped members if they had trouble finding the correct answer. Also during the month of September, we encourage people to sign up for the September DCM, in which we did our cheers and had our cheer remix. Remember Penguins, always keep it icy and stay frosty!
LAWNDALE | ANGELA DELGADO
Greetings Pirate Penguins! In the month of September, Lawndale Key Club participated in our school’s Club Rush and had a great turnout. A total of 24 people attended our first club meeting and they were all excited to join us. During our meeting, the rest of my board and I discussed the service events we have planned for the near future and even received input from our club members with their ideas! We also went over our purpose as a club and explained the different levels of Key Club, like the divisions, regions, and districts, so that they can look forward to the DCMs and RTC coming up. Lastly, we showed our members how to use the Charity Miles App so that they can start accumulating service hours!

Ahoy Pirate Penguins! The month of September was fortunately very eventful and productive for Santa Monica Key club. To begin the month, on September 8th, we held a general club meeting via Zoom to participate in a Kahoot game and write heartfelt letters to our hardworking teachers of SAMOHI. We received a great response from our members and felt that it was a very successful virtual event! Throughout the duration of September, we held one general meeting every Tuesday and one officer meeting every Friday. On September 14th, we began our Art and School supplies drive partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of America. We have a donation box and wishlist available for our members to participate safely and proactively. On September 29th, our club held a virtual event to write hopeful letters to the Atria Senior Living Group of Santa Monica. Santa Monica has started the 202021 term strong and we hope to continue this in the months to come. We send our best wishes and hope everyone is staying safe and healthy under these circumstances!

What’s waddling penguins! In the month of September, we managed to partner up with our school’s math club for people to earn community service hours through tutoring. People can tutor other people on math, no matter the difficulty, and allow others to gain more experience in the subject and get help when needed. We canceled the event with the Madrona Marsh because of COVID-19 and we are taking the necessary precautions when handling these events. Just like last month, we are planning to host a Krispy Kreme’s fundraiser but we are struggling with the limited payment options and approval needed from both ASB and the district.
