Solis analytical and semi micro balances for waste analysis
A
nalytical balances are essential tools for waste treatment plants. Whether samples are measured directly, or reagents and standards are prepared by weighing, a reliable and accurate analytical balance is a necessity. Solis analytical and semi micro balances are designed for laboratory professionals. Able to streamline a wide variety of complex weighing applications and integrated seamlessly with LIMS systems, Solis balances provide a precise solution for waste treatment plants. Semi micro models and analytical models feature readabilities of 0.01mg/0.1mg to 0.0001g, which is the precision required for wastewater analysis. GLP-compliant printouts and data communication capacities via RS-232 interface help ensure full integration with software, printers and other peripherals. Solis analytical and semi micro models are equipped with a draft shield to help prevent environmental factors from affecting or contaminating small samples. This is further improved by the selectable digital filtering option, which can be modified by users. Internal and external calibration models are available. Be sure to make calibration and cleaning a part of your guidelines and procedure for lab equipment maintenance. Solis balances are easy to use, with intuitive menus and multilingual capacities to promote scientific cooperation.
Because many of the samples are heated and dried prior to weighing, Adam Equipment would like to remind you to always wait until the samples are cool before placing them in the weighing chamber. Never use your hands, even with gloves, to touch samples. Use tongs to handle and place samples on the balance. They’re very sensitive instruments, and even the slightest changes can be recorded and measured.

Measuring dissolved oxygen (DO)
W
hat is dissolved oxygen (DO)? Why is this parameter so relevant in, for example, water analysis, and which technologies are used to determine it? In a free white paper, Dr. Sabrina Gschwind, Junior Product Manager Titration at Metrohm AG takes a comprehensive look at dissolved oxygen and compares the advantages and disadvantages of the analysis methods. Titration vs. direct measurement Dissolved oxygen is a term describing the amount of oxygen molecules (O2) which are dissolved in a liquid phase under certain conditions. In the white paper, two different methods for the analysis of dissolved oxygen - titration and direct measurement - are compared and contrasted to help analysts determine which method is more suitable. Here, the focus is primarily on the determination of dissolved O2 in water. However, the same principle applies for other liquid phases such as nonalcoholic or alcoholic beverages. The following topics are addressed: • What is dissolved oxygen? • How to determine the dissolved

946 Portable VA Analyser – heavy metal analysis goes mobile etrohm is pleased to introduce the 946 Portable VA Analyser, a compact, portable, all-in-one solution for heavy metal analysis of surface waters. Measurements with the 946 Portable VA are sensitive enough to detect trace level concentrations of total arsenic, mercury, and copper well below the limit values defined by law in many countries, among them the US and the member States of the EU. For lack of viable alternatives, trace level quantification of heavy metals has usually been performed in the laboratory using high-end techniques such as IC-ICP/MS. The 946 Portable VA, on the other hand, not only frees the analysis from the
ph instrumentation
lab but is also much less expensive than competing technology and also enables users to discriminate between species of heavy metals such as the highly toxic As(III) and the less toxic As(V). Handling the 946 Portable is straightforward and measurements take only a couple of minutes providing matching results produced in the laboratory in all respects such as sensitivity, accuracy, or reproducibility. At the heart of the measuring stand is a unique, disposable sensor (the scTRACE Gold), which can be easily exchanged due to a clever plug-in design. The complete set-up with measuring stand, accessories, and bottles comes in a portable carrying case.
