“I have HOPE AGAIN.” When Clinton was just 22 years old, his life took an unexpected turn when he found his father deceased in the home they shared. Clinton was unable to afford the mortgage by himself, and moving in with his mom wasn’t an option – soon, he was homeless. Crippled by grief and the trauma of his father’s death, Clinton struggled to cope on the streets. He turned to alcohol to numb his pain. A few years later, he found himself in prison. “I gave up on life at a young age,” he says. “And spiritually, I blamed God for everything I was going through. I fought the idea that God was my savior. Instead, I just drank so I didn’t feel anything at all.” Prison ended up being the wake up call that Clinton desperately needed. He was forced to step back and see the destructive path he’d been on, and he decided to change. Upon his release, he was referred to the Genesis Recovery Program here at New Life Center. In Genesis, Clinton started counseling and attending chapel, which helped him begin to heal from his painful past. Clinton hopes to one day live on his own again, but for now he just appreciates having a warm bed and a safe space to get his life back together. He also started working at New Life Center’s thrift store, which has given him a purpose and the opportunity to feel productive again. “I was on the verge of death, but now I’m healing mentally and “I FEEL LIKE MY LIFE IS physically. And I’ve been reborn spiritually; I’ve come back to life, STARTING OVER. BUT THIS which has been very powerful,” he TIME I’M RESTORED.” says. Clinton is excited to celebrate the restored hope he has been given this Christmas – and wants YOU to know just how grateful he is. “I just thank God every day for sending me to New Life Center. I feel very blessed. I have hope again.” 3

A Message from ROB SWIERS

The JOY that Comes from Christ Don’t you just love the words of John 1:14? “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” As we rejoice over the birth of our Savior, it’s such a blessing to know God fills our hearts with joy everlasting – today and every day. His faithfulness sustains us through every circumstance and His grace offers renewal in our lives…as well as in the lives of those we serve. While we do provide Christmas gifts to the guests in our care, what’s most important is that they know about Jesus’ sacrifice and the gift of salvation that is freely given to us all. Thanks to your friendship, we’re able to share the “good tidings of great joy for all people” during the holidays and throughout the year. Your fervent prayers and ongoing support help restore lives – and wrap local men, women and children in God’s loving embrace. Just like Clinton, whose story we’ve shared on page 3, God still works miracles in the lives of people all around us. This Christmas, I hope your heart overflows with peace, joy and love as your blessings abound.
