NEWARK SENIOR CENTER

Phone: (302) 737-2336

E-mail: nsc@newarkseniorcenter.com

Hi Friends,

Thank you so much for all the well wishes as I settle into my new role, though I do use the term “settle” lightly. Fall is such a busy time at the Center, of course highlighted by the Fall Flea Market!

The Fall Flea Market is one of our largest fundraisers each year – but its success is only because of the tremendous support of our members and the community. There are more than 100 individuals who help to pull this event together and that doesn’t include those who donate items and shop. There really is a way for everyone to pitch in and help; bringing baked goods, encouraging your friends and family to either donate or shop, unpacking and organizing the different booths, working during the sale, and packing up what remains. If you are looking to get involved in the Center and meeting new people, this is an excellent opportunity, I invite you to learn more at an orientation on Wednesday, October 15th at 1pm.

If you find nothing else at the Flea Market, I can almost guarantee you can find a great costume for the Halloween Social! The Halloween Social is probably one that members look forward to most, who doesn’t want the chance to relive the childhood memories of picking the perfect costume and laughing with your friends?!

Mark your calendar now so you don’t miss the fun!

I am trying to get out of the office to meet more members, but as I do that please don’t hesitate to come to the office and introduce yourself! When members tell us why they like coming to the Center, it really does make a difference to the staff!

The Newark Senior Center is the first and only senior center in Delaware accredited by the National Institute of Senior Centers, a division of the National Council on Aging.

HAM GRANT

Jada's Journal

We are locally owned and operated. All prices are up front, fully estimated, not guesstimates. We do all general contracting and home repairs. No job is too big or too small.

RELIABLE, AND

It is important to reflect on how much psychology and fitness go hand in hand. Going to the gym isn’t just about lifting weights or running on a treadmill, it’s also about mindset. I’ve noticed that the way we talk to ourselves before, during, and after a workout can make all the difference. A little encouragement, setting small goals, and celebrating progress. Instead of focusing on perfection turn the gym into a place of growth rather than pressure.

What’s powerful is how exercise supports the mind in return. Movement releases endorphins, lifts our mood, and helps us manage stress more effectively. It clears our head, boosts focus, and even helps us sleep better at night. For me, that connection between mind and body is what makes wellness feel complete. The gym is more than a space to get stronger physically it’s a space to build resilience, confidence, and balance. My hope is that this month, you give yourself permission to embrace both sides: the psychology that motivates you and the workouts that restore you. So remember to join me in the fitness center and stay active.
