Hi Friends:
November is the one time each year that we actively ask for your financial support in the form of our Annual Appeal Letter. This year, our theme is: Together We Thrive. And I couldn’t think of a better way to describe what happens each day at the Newark Senior Center.
Thriving looks different to each person at the Center. For some people that means the opportunity to move their body in our therapeutic pool, for others thriving means learning a new skill in an art class, for someone else it could be making a new friend while enjoying lunch at the Center. Take Meals on Wheels as an example, our volunteer delivery drivers thrive by giving back to the community and making a difference in the life of a homebound client; that client is then able to age in place in their community – which may be their definition of thriving. We offer such a wide variety of opportunities and services, it allows everyone to thrive as they wish.
It takes a village to make all these things happen. When I accepted this position, knowing that I had a supportive staff, an engaged Board of Directors, and a dedicated team of volunteers gave me the confidence to take on the challenge. I can’t forget all of our members who encourage our staff to thrive every day!
We are a unique organization in that our donors are our members, it is not hard to communicate to donors the importance of the Center, they see it in their mirrors and each time they come to the Center. When your annual appeal letter comes, I hope you will consider how NSC helps you thrive in your own way.
Thank you for your support and being a part of our Team – we couldn’t do it without you!

PS. You can donate any time on our website., www.newarkseniorcenter.com, by clicking on the DONATE button.

With the month of November, remember to focus on mindful eating as we head into the holidays. Thanksgiving is a time to enjoy good food and special moments with loved ones, but it’s also easy to go overboard. You don’t have to give up your favorite dishes just enjoy them in moderation. Try using a smaller plate to help control portions, and fill at least half of it with vegetables, salad, or lighter sides before adding heavier foods.
Eat slowly, take your time and listen to your body. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to recognize when you’re full, so pacing yourself helps prevent overeating. Drinking water before and during your meal can also keep you satisfied and aid digestion. Most importantly, remember that Thanksgiving isn’t only about the food it’s about gratitude, connection, and enjoying the moment. By keeping portions in mind, you can celebrate the holiday and still feel your best afterward.
