July 2021

Dear Friends,

Thank you to all who have recognized my 15 years of service to the Newark Senior Center. It has truly been my honor to work in such a well-respected Center. I have worked with so many amazing staff members and dedicated Board members as we have always tried go from good to great in all that we do. It has also been a true privilege to get to know so many senior center members over these past years as well as so many colleagues throughout the state. To this day, I still have a great relationship with the past 2 Executive Directors who are still so proud of the work that we do here and the role they played in the success of the Center. Another milestone that should be noted is the 25 years that the Senior Center has been located at 200 Whitechapel Drive. From humble beginnings on Main Street the Center relocated to this wonderful facility in 1996. Since that time, there have been 3 additions to the building and countless upgrades and renovations. We are so grateful to the support of our community in the form of grants, donations, bequests and volunteer hours that have allowed us to provide this amazing facility to our members.

The Newark Senior Center has really become a treasure trove of opportunities. Even over this past year, and certainly for more than 50 years of service to the community – the Center continues to provide so many options. Programs address basic needs, like our Meals on Wheels program, to so many enrichment and fitness opportunities to prolong independent living in the community and provide the perfect place to remain socially connected.

It is easy to answer the Who, What, Where, and When questions when talking about the Center. But, the Why is certainly the most important. It is so wonderful to see the level of involvement by our members. Participation in such a wide array of programs and services as so many seniors, thousands, continue to remain active and to live independently in the community of their choosing. Stay well and enjoy the summer.

If you become ill with COVID within 2 weeks of visiting NSC, please notify us at 737-2336 x115 or cgrygiel@newarkseniorcenter.com. The preregistration for various activities will allow us to provide contact tracing information to the state.

THE NSC DOES NOT SELL OR GIVE ITS MEMBERSHIP LIST.

YOGA WITH CHRISTY

RECURRING PAYMENTS

Christy's Core Fitness M: 10:00am • W: 10:15am will not meet 7/7 Yoga is one of the best ways to keep yourself feeling lively and healthy as you age! Slow and gentle yoga with a holistic approach that focuses on strength, balance, flexibility, bringing mobility to the joints and breath control. Poses, when practiced regularly, will contribute to improvement of physical strength, mental clarity and the cognitive connection to both. We will be doing standing poses and poses on the floor. Remember to bring your mat.

In October 2020, NSC began offering the option to enroll in recurring payments for your Fitness Center and Pool/Group Exercise memberships. This means you don't have to keep track of when your memberships expire, your credit card information will be stored securely and will be charged automatically on a monthly or quarterly basis. Forms are available in the pool, fitness center and at the Reception Desk. Complete and return the form to Jessica Feinberg, Development Director or Katie Rivera, Program Director.
