hen Shirley Panossian was struck down with an immune disorder after the birth of her daughter leaving her barely able to walk or leave the house, she embarked on a natural healing journey. Q: Why did you start Bornstate Food Co? A: I had to get better to lead my beautiful newborn daughter into the great adventure called life. Mango Cheesecake Mousse RECIPE TABITHA SCHUTZ

For me this was a mix-it-all-together recipe, and first pop, bam it worked. Ingredients: 1 cup coconut water kefir (if you choose to ferment the mango) 1 cup ripe mango 1 cup raw soaked cashews 2 full tbsp gelatin, dissolved in 4 tbsp hot water 1 cup Ayam coconut cream, full fat 2-4 tbsp raw honey (depending how sweet you desire) 3 tbsp fresh lemon juice ½ tsp lemon rind Pinch sea salt 1 tsp vanilla Method: Fermenting fruit is completely optional.

If you choose to make it sugar free, you can ferment mango in a sterile Mason airtight jar with 1 cup coconut water kefir. Then fill with remaining filtered water (but not to the brim as you need space for the liquid as it ferments and bubbles). Leave 24 to 48 hours or until fruit is very fizzy and tangy. You can omit the honey and use Stevia, but the honey makes it more like a cheesecake. If you’re not fermenting, leave out kefir from recipe. 1. Soak cashews in water to cover for 3 hours. Drain and rinse. 2. Place gelatin in boiling water and dissolve well. Place aside. 3. Using your Vitamix blender, place chopped mango in and ensure the juice is drained off and not used (fresh

or fermented) in blender along with soaked cashews, coconut cream, honey or sweetener of choice, lemon juice, rind, salt and vanilla. Blend until very smooth. It’s important for it to be very smooth and to use room temperature ingredients. 4. Add dissolved gelatin mixture and further blend in well. 5. Line mini springform pans with baking paper and pour in. You can pour and set in jars too. 6. Set overnight 24 hours to let flavour mature. 7. health?

W

hilst most of us know the rules of how to be healthy, they’re often easy to forget! So here’s a reminder about how to achieve our best gut health. #1 – FIBRE Most Aussies don’t consume anywhere near their recommended daily intake of fibre. If you’re not consuming 25-30 grams of fibre daily, you’re doing your gut a disservice. Just like you brush your teeth twice a day, fibre is important to brush your insides out. The insoluble fibre found in fruits, veggies, nuts and wholegrains, adds bulk to waste and helps drag toxins along the mucosal membrane of your colon. Soluble fibre attracts water and turns to a gel in your colon, therefore helping to soften your stool and make your bowel movements easier. Disorders that can arise from insufficient fibre intake include: constipation, IBS, diverticulitis and some cancers. #2 – WATER Gone are the days where we follow the ‘8 glasses of water’ rule. This onesize-fits-all approach doesn’t take into

account differences between gender, activity and lifestyle. As a minimum, females are recommended to drink 2.1L and males 2.6L. If you’re exercising or have a physically demanding profession, increase your water intake. When cleansing, it’s suggested to consume 1L for every 22kg of body weight. Do a quick calculation in your head and you’ll see that probably equates to a lot more water than you’re currently drinking! Dehydration can pretty quickly lead to constipation, and as little as 2% loss of body weight results in impaired physiological responses and performance. #3 – MICROBIOME The bacteria in your gut are responsible for many things we take for granted. Beneficial bacteria help keep us regular. Up to 80% of our immune system is in our colon, and is supported by a healthy microbiome. Some good bacteria create B vitamins which we use for energy. And up to 90% of the happy hormone serotonin is created via the good bacteria in your gut. As

you can see, these are all important functions of our microbiome that we should pay more attention to. The best way to support a healthy and diverse microbiome is to cleanse regularly with colonics and support your gut with dietary sources of probiotics via fermented and cultured foods. #4 – REGULARITY Most experts suggest that normal elimination can occur between three times per day and three times per week. However, just because something is ‘normal’ does not make it ideal. For optimum health, you don’t want waste to be sitting in your gut for longer than 24 hours, because it can start to break down and release toxins back into your body (not to mention toxic-smelling gas!). Most people find their body feels best when having a bowel movement between 1-3 times daily. VEGAN and GLUTEN FREE Ingredients: 1 cup of hemp seeds ¼ cup raw cane sugar (or alternative sugar) ½ mashed banana 1 cup all natural peanut butter ½ tsp baking soda Directions: Mix together all ingredients in a large bowl, or use a blender for a smooth consistency. ith a desire to support people to transform selfsabotage, stress, anxiety and depression, we quickly realised our experience in training, assessment and facilitation, six combined years as voluntary ambulance officers, and extensive studies in both complementary and mind/body therapies, was not enough because this is what we discovered; stress is holistic. We needed to commit to a physical, mental, emotional and spiritual relationship with our bodies. When we looked for role models, we could not find anyone who exemplified a holistic relationship, so we had to figure out how to be this person ourselves. After years of using ourselves as laboratories and testing formulas with clients, in workshops and retreats; ‘Body Relationships’ was born. When we applied for accreditation, we did not fit an existing model, so IICT approved Body Relationships as its own modality. It has two accreditations: Holistic

hen anyone experiences their last exhalation, in the process of death, it is a form of release, there is the pause of peace once the soul has left, it is also the beginning of a new soul experience, as our spirit leaves its earthy human shell. The soul is set free. Our first inhalation when we are born, the intake of the world around us, is a commitment, it is the beginning of a new soul experience draped in earthly physical matter, a density which binds the soul into this existence, while flowing with feelings, wonder, and the desire to experience certain things for the soul to expand and sing its unique song. Inhaling is the beginning of all things. When we awaken in the morning, we consciously take that big breath, that stretch, that awareness of ‘here I am again’. A new day dawns, a new cycle begins, a time for new opportunities and potentials to be created, imagined and experienced.

Perhaps it is the day you start a new habit, a new direction, a new practice or new life, it all began with the first conscious inhalation of that day. Most of us pay little attention to the magic of breathing. Each inhalation gives us the space to choose a new thought, a new action, make a choice, to bring something different to us, to align with fresh ideas. Every in-breath is us taking the world into us, bringing spirit closer to our heart, taking a deeper pathway of awareness. When we are caught up in thoughts of doing, or not being present to life, getting lost in the busy, feeling stressed, overwhelmed, perhaps anxious, we are always told to take a few breaths. We start with a big inhale, and a slow exhale, then we repeat as we feel the energy soften, shift and release… In that moment, we have started something new, we have chosen to focus on something out of our control or where we have been unconscious,

hat if getting back to basics was being generous with self? What I mean is, if you are generous towards yourself with your time, thoughts and actions, you would really see how beautiful you are inside, outside and inside again. To be generous to yourself means being kind and abundant. Imagine you have to go to work but before that you need to take your child to childcare and the other children to school. You run around organising the children’s breakfast, their school lunches and quickly make beds, which leaves you no time to wash your hair, so you have a bird bath shower and throw on your clothes before running out the door. As you leave, your husband says he has forgotten his wallet, and could you drop it off to him on your way to work. All your actions in kindness have been delivered to the family and children and there is nothing left for you. This mad rush continues at work and you have just been told that a report must be handed in to meet a deadline. Your office partner was meant

to finish this project with you but at the last minute they asked you to do it so they could go to lunch with their friend. You generously say yes and forgo your break and time to nourish your body. By the end of the day you feel exhausted, hungry and probably have a slight headache. More than that, you repel the concept and knowing you are beautiful. By this stage your body is going to feel unwell and you may even become resentful towards others. Your life will be perceived as stressful, no time and possibly you see no hope in the future. Your cognitive thought process to see the best in things may be non-existent. It is critical to your health to be generous to you! 3 SET BOUNDARIES. These boundaries will create a guideline for you to know when you need to replenish you. 3 SAY NO. When saying no, it does not mean you are offending others, it is just saying no to that task, situation or experience. This allows you to fill yourself and that makes you feel abundant rather than empty.

3 PERMISSION. Give yourself permission to take and receive, to feel guilt free. Remember holistic beauty is really love of self and getting back to basics. affect you?

G, the future of the internet, is fast approaching or is already here for some parts of Australia. There has been a lot of speculation about the EMF from the millimetre wave which the 5G operates over and its potential adverse health effects. There has also been a lot of scaremongering on the internet claiming 5G is deliberately set up as some form of mind control; as part of some nefarious agenda. Instead of speculating, we decided to visit Dickson in the ACT, where there are 5G broadband services, not mobile data. There are very few 5G phones available yet around the world which is why, in Dickson, 5G broadband is the only service offered. So, what does a 5G antenna look like? Speculation in the past was that it will use the existing 4G towers we see around the countryside. Not so. 5G comes in the form of LED street lights, which have the micro cell antennas attached to the bottom of them. Many councils around Australia,

have been replacing their street lights with the new LED/5G antennas attached. Instead of having a 4G tower which is 1-2km apart, 5G can be as close as 20 metres apart. And therein lies the EMF problem. How does the 5G EMF radiation effect the countryside where it is operating? The first thing we noticed in Dickson, was 5G creates a charge coming up out of the ground. Most people think of a 4G phone tower sending signals horizontally through the air and that the RF wave is the radiation, when in fact, most of the EMF charge, the harmful component, comes up out of the ground up to around 50 metres from the tower. So, with 5G, the charge that comes out of the ground is everywhere, and you cannot escape it. This charge completely engulfs a building from top to bottom, as a building is a resonant cavity. The effect on humans may be an increase in EMF stress in the body. We performed kinesiology testing and

Biotensor tool testing on a real human in the 5G environment within a building and outside in an open area. Both locations showed higher than normal EMF stress in the body. Does 5G have other energetic environmental effects? Yes, the natural, radiant and conducive to good health Earth ley grids, such as the 180 Metre Grid and the 25 KM Grids, are completely ‘knocked out’ with 5G. So, if before 5G you were lucky enough to have your home located over one of the radiant ley grids and you experienced good health from them, then 5G may jeopardise your physical health and emotional wellbeing. 5G also creates new harmful Earth grid lines at 60 metres square, which are only active during heightened Mercury in Retrograde or during periods of high solar winds. Menopause and

being spiritual

W

ell, I’m not an expert on menopause, but here’s what I can tell you: It creeps up on you, even if you’ve had symptoms for a while. I’m going to be abrupt – one of the things I noticed was my bum changed shape, actually it now starts about half a foot above where it used to start. “Eye Roll”. Hot flushes make me feel less than perfect. When the intense burn comes up through my head, red faced, perspiring, running to get outside, I’ll pick up a chair and throw it through a window just to get some air! Well not really, but sometimes I feel like a crazy woman. Panicked and feeling out of control… my body has changed, I’m running hot all the time, the moods are bad and starting to fluctuate. My tolerance levels have gone down. At this point I’m like, “ugh”. I had been going to the doctors with all

sorts of ailments that were new but mostly caused by menopause and not at all major things. So my teeth and jaw can hurt due to menopause, my bowel movements can change (really a woman without estrogen struggles for a while) and then that beautifully made body of ours gets used to it and we’re good to go a little while longer. My first reaction after it was confirmed I was in menopause was “feck,, I’m old.” I’m closer to death than anything else. Then I had to do a ‘Ctrl Alt Delete’ of those thoughts. I couldn’t get my head around the fact that it bothered me. Hey, I’m spiritual, been practising and teaching this stuff for years, but the energy was strange for a couple of weeks. I realised I needed to start doing gratitude lists, start back at the beginning, start with self-love. Then the phone calls started to come from spiritual friends… “How are you? Is it me, or is the energy weird?” they asked.

OMG thank God I thought to myself! My over-the-top reaction was influenced by the energy and astrology of that space in time. I’m not as bad as I thought! Don’t just accept what is. I know we talk about acceptance, first please look at the surrounding energy at the time. I’m definitely a wise ol’ crone but I love that! I have looked at things from all angles, sourced some happy hormones to try and I’ve been to my doctor. As for the dark moods, there are pages and pages of gratitude lists I have written. It’s just another stage, a new chapter… but in some ways, it feels like the completion of me, I’ve done the cycle of life. If you’re at that point, talk about it, share how you feel. S

itting in a cafe watching the Parisians early Monday morning, or a Sunday afternoon, epitomises the back to basics culture of Parisian life. Bringing my daughter to Paris has turned into a wonderful living example of a city embracing what matters; people enjoying each other’s company. Food is not fuel here, it is the reason you get up in the morning. The freshness of ingredients and reliance on natural flavours, combined with refined cooking methods, bring the ‘back to basics’ flavours of olive oil, garlic and tomatoes; or in the cooler regions, butter and cream, together. The French law requires only three simple ingredients in every classic baguette ordinaire: flour, yeast, salt (weighing 250g). 80% of Parisians eat bread with every meal and there is a constant aroma of freshly baking baguettes wafting from Paris bakeries. Not only do the French embrace ‘back to basics’ within their paradise of food, they embrace personal style

above all else. For the women, it’s simple hair, minimal make-up and red lipstick; fashion becomes the confidence in each individual style. The frequency of such a culture radiates throughout the city, on Sunday the freshness of excited conversations in crowded cafes, spills onto the streets. Lunch time Monday, there is a similar excited conversation, as workers gather in favourite cafes and engage in emotional bouts of laughter, amid deep discussions. The thread tying every day together, appears to be: connection, the frequency of back to basics, vibrant conversation over real food, all with individual style. Paris is beautiful in every season, yet winter’s melancholic, poetic and elegant atmosphere is inspiring. It’s not quite spring here and not the cold abrasiveness of winter and we feel the frequency of inspiring simplicity that runs through the workers of the city. This brings home a strong message for myself and my daughter; that as we fly back home, a reminder to enjoy

What foods should I eat?” It’s a question we hear often. Over the past few decades, there has been a shift away from eating food in its most natural form – whole. So what are wholefoods? rom an early age, Helen had a desire to work in the healing field, and because of her strong affinity with nature, natural-based therapies seemed to tick all the boxes. In Grade 12 she discovered naturopathy, which was a perfect fit and after graduating from high school, she moved from Canberra to Sydney to complete her natural medicine studies. Four years of study and 18 years later, she is a world-class naturopath, medical herbalist and nutritionist. Interestingly, Helen was inspired to become a natural medicine practitioner after being ill as a child. “Growing up I didn’t have great health and that likely 20

had roots in medical interventions to stop me from being born three months too early. Mum was put on steroids to stop the labour and maintain the pregnancy, which worked and saved my life but also had a fallout. I had asthma and eczema from six months old, I would get hayfever and allergies to animals and dust, eggs and dairy. I had bronchitis every March in my teens, recurrent tonsillitis, pneumonia in Year 9, shingles in Year 11, PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) in my early twenties, and in hindsight I realised I very likely had endometriosis,” said Helen. Naturopathy, herbalism and a paleo lifestyle helped her to heal and live a vibrant life as an adult.

Helen says most people these days don’t even know what it is to feel well. “The norm is ‘not well’ and it really breaks my heart. “I am particularly concerned about teenagers. If they don’t feel well, it really affects their mood and passion for life resulting in a lot of mental health issues now with this generation. There’s a disconnect with how many of them feel mentally and emotionally, and what’s going on in their bodies. I just say to them, ‘This is not how you are meant to be feeling. to feel well and good. That’s your birth right’. “It was the same for me growing up. I didn’t know I didn’t feel well until I started feeling better – then I was a bit dismayed that I had felt so terrible for so long without knowing it! “I want people to EXPERIENCE what it FEELS like to feel better, rather than living with feeling less than optimal, because it affects every aspect, including your relationships and level of enjoyment, of life. “Experiencing and feeling something is so much more powerful than being told about it or reading about it. It’s what brings about change for the better.” Another dream that actualised, was teaming up with a high profile chef. About seven years ago, Helen was living in New Zealand and she remembers her friends keenly watching cooking shows on TV. At the time Helen said, “Wouldn’t it be great to have a celebrity chef who shares info about healthy food and gets those messages out into the mainstream?” Shortly after, Helen’s sister sent a message telling her about a chef called Pete Evans who was in the media for activating nuts. Helen hadn’t heard of him, but proclaimed, “I don’t know who he is but I like him!” Within nine days of moving back to Australia, she met Pete Evans (they were both speaking at a Mindd Foundation event) and they have worked together and been good friends ever since. Helen creates change wherever she goes: she has an impact on the celebrity world, she engages her audiences at events, and she inspires her clients to good health by working with them one-on-one. What you may not know, is for about a decade she also held a deep yearning to work with Indigenous cultures. “I always had a sense it would happen but didn’t know how or why or when.

“I quite ashamedly didn’t have any connections with that world and didn’t know where to begin to create a genuine connection. I also had a sense it would come at the right time and so I trusted that. Then I got a call from Kama Trudgen, the co-founder of Hope for Health in October 2017, and that led to partnering with her in Arnhem Land.” They had a fantastic conversation and connection, and Helen shared Kama’s sense of urgency to assist the Indigenous communities. “There is so much that we need to learn from them. It’s not about going in to fix things; we are doing it to work together because we have so much we need from one another,” said Helen. So they created the ‘Together Retreats’, a program that involves a non-Indigenous person sponsoring a Yolngu person so they can go on a journey of wellness, connection and sharing together. The retreats are comprehensive, and include a 2-month online preparation course, dietary education, daily movement activities, massage, osteopathy, medical consultations and ancient Aboriginal treatments. This journey is literally life saving for the oldest living culture on Earth, who are currently battling an epidemic of preventable chronic disease. They are working with two universities – Melbourne and Charles Darwin – to get published data from the retreats, which will hopefully help fund future retreats. The ‘Together Retreats’ incorporate paleo principles, which closely align with the Indigenous people’s traditional local diet of Elcho Island (they weren’t grain growers). Such a diet would have been made up of tubers, turtles, fish, crocodile, shell fish, goannas, kangaroos and tart, sour berries. Up in Australia’s top end, the major illnesses affecting Indigenous communities include diabetes, cancer, chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease, which are all diseases of lifestyle that have only been prevalent in the area for the last 40 years. Today, the diet of many in the Indigenous community consists of highly processed and sugared dominant culture food-like substances (white flour products and sugar feature heavily). Up until the 1970s, the Indigenous people were fit, wiry, strong and empowered warriors, fuelled by their traditional Yolngu foods. The transformation after these retreats can be quite profound: everyone achieves vastly improved (often optimal)

blood sugar levels without insulin, improved blood pressure, significant improvements with vision and asthma symptoms, and a reduction of excess weight. “The participants are the ones making the changes, we just hold the space,” said Helen. “Each time I go to Elcho Island, I learn a bit more, including about traditional bush tukka. It’s powerful when people experience feeling better; that’s what the retreats are about rather than just learning intellectually what it may be like. “One reason I love working from a ‘food as medicine’ perspective, is you start to notice feeling better and you start to tune into your body and how you are feeling. From there, you start looking at the quality of your food and where it comes from and what impact that has on the environment. “We forget we are all connected and we are all part of nature, and so to achieve and maintain health we need to live in accordance to the laws and rhythms of nature as much as possible.” www.helenpadarin.com www.togetherretreat.com.au

DOCTOR QUIET: Quite time can give us more energy. “He who fails to go in, goes without.” Meditation is one thing I love to do to create space and quiet within.

DOCTOR MOVEMENT: I go to an ocean pool regularly to move my body and I do training sessions, bush walks and love to climb trees, and most importantly, play!

DOCTOR DIET: For me, using paleo principles as a foundation is the best way I have found to take care of my body’s needs.

DOCTOR HAPPY: It’s so important to connect with what you love – a common thread with people who get chronic diseases is a loss of connecting with what brings them joy. Living on Sydney’s Northern Beaches, I have the joy of looking out over national parks and have cockatoos and parrots on my balcony every day, as well as kookaburras (and once even a wallaby!) in the backyard. Spend quality time with those you love: whether it’s cuddles with the kids or a delicious meal with friends. 5. Immerse yourself in nature as often as possible. 6. Go barefoot: feel the healing power of Earth between your toes. 7. Sit less and move your body more. 8. Prioritise your sleep: a good night’s sleep helps your body recover and rejuvenate ready for the day ahead. 9. Reduce your screen time. 10. Dedicate time to cooking and eating wholesome, nourishing food.

Q: If people live in busy cities, without access to a lot of nature, what can they do to protect themselves from EMR? There are not many places these days where we can avoid exposure to EMR from mobile phone towers, WiFi routers, power lines etc, but there are some simple steps we can take to reduce our daily exposure to it. A key thing to remember is that the further away we are from the EMR source (e.g.: a WiFi router or your mobile phone), the less our exposure to it: 1. Keep your mobile phone away from your head or body: text rather than talk and avoid carrying your mobile phone in your pocket or bra. 2. Switch devices to airplane mode whenever possible; this blocks the signal and therefore significantly reduces the amount of EMR being emitted. This is particularly important if children are using wireless devices.

3. Turn off your WiFi router at night to reduce your EMR exposure while you sleep. Q: What tools can we use to feel more grounded and peaceful? 1. Make time for meditation: even if you only manage 10 minutes a day before bed. Take that time to reflect on the day, reset and give thanks. 2. Find a routine that works for you. 3. Ensure you get enough sleep. 4. Get grounded, literally! Earthing (or grounding) has been shown to stabilise the stress hormone cortisol, helping us to reduce our feelings of stress and anxiety and improving our sense of calm and peace. 3 natural remedies

for cold

and flu

ith the cold and flu season upon us, here are a few healthful remedies using natural ingredients you may already have at home. Essential oils offer great therapeutic benefit as well as leaving a lovely scent in the home or workplace. Ultrasonic diffusers work best to preserve the integrity of essential oils for a greater therapeutic benefit than traditional oil burners. Antimicrobial essential oils to add to your kit include: bergamot, eucalyptus, thyme, cinnamon, tea tree, lemon balm, lavender, peppermint and clove. Combine premium grade essential oils to make your own signature blend. From a nutrient perspective, there are two key nutrients for a healthy immune system: zinc and Vitamin C. Incorporate zinc-rich foods such as meat, shellfish, legumes, nuts, seeds, dairy, eggs and whole grains into your daily diet. Vitamin C rich foods include:

blackcurrants, citrus fruits, berries, kiwifruit, tomatoes, broccoli, sprouts and capsicum. However, there are times when eating nutrient rich food is not enough and supplementation may be necessary. The recommended daily therapeutic dose of zinc during an acute cold and flu episode is 50mg, and Vitamin C is 1000-3000mg. A special note of caution here when supplementing with Vitamin C, if the formula is 100% ascorbic acid the therapeutic dose may cause stomach irritation in some people and result in digestive bloating, flatulence and loose bowel motions. To minimise this, look for a supplement that uses a different formulation containing other forms such as calcium ascorbate, magnesium ascorbate and so on. Always start on a low dose and work up to bowel tolerance as this is different in everyone. A Vitamin C and antioxidant rich infusion containing honey, lemon, cinnamon (Ceylon cinnamon) and

ginger, is a great way to soothe a sore throat or add a teaspoon or two in with your tea. It can be used as a daily preventative or during an episode. For this easy-to-make infusion you will need a glass jar, one lemon, honey, Ceylon cinnamon powder and fresh ginger. Slice the lemon and ginger. Alternate layering lemon, cinnamon, ginger and honey until the jar is 80% full. Place a lid on the jar and refrigerate for 24-48 hours, before removing the lemon and ginger slices. Remember to invert the infusion a few times during the infusion process to blend all ingredients. Store the infusion in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Do not use this recipe if you have an allergy to these ingredients or bees. I

’ve given some thought to the topic of this month’s issue and do understand that for many the sentence ‘back to basics’ means going back to leading a simpler life, removing clutter and downsizing. Going back to basics as an individual, is taking time out to just BE, to spend time looking at the sky at night, to take walks in nature, to sit down when you eat, to be present with people, to do simple things that make you happy. When in company, listen with the intent of understanding, not replying, be present and take part in conversations, interact with others. Do simple things. Don’t have expectations of others. Put your electronic devices away when you are in the company of others, whether that’s with your family, your friends or your colleagues, and this will reduce distractions. Clear your mind and meditate. Put down your electronic devices or limit the time spent on them because this

constant electronic interaction clutters your mind by downloading thousands of bits of information that imprint on your mind, leaving no room to just BE. Be mindful, be a part of life, interact with others face to face, have a real conversation without constantly checking your phone or electronic device. Getting back to basics in your mind means clearing out the clutter and the chatter that is going on in there; giving your mind space to just chill. The pragmatics of neuro-plasticity and neuro-science understands that the mind can be decluttered and re-programmed. Interestingly, I was listening to one of my favourite speakers today, Dr Joe Dispenza. Joe is a neuroscientist (just one of his many mantles), who always discusses the mind, which is also my area of therapeutic work and interest. Did you know that you think between 60,000-70,000 thoughts a day, and that’s without all the electronic downloads?

So, let’s talk about decluttering your MIND! Let’s compare your mind to a computer. On the screen is your conscious mind, while the programming in the background that is inaccessible, is your unconscious mind, the keeper of all of your memories and all of your emotions. This is the area that needs to be cleaned up, where unnecessary data needs to be deleted. How is this done? Firstly, by being mindful, by being aware of your thoughts, by listening to the words you say to yourself and immediately deleting those unwanted, outmoded thoughts that are your personal saboteur. T

o change patterns of motion and thoughts that no longer contribute to our well-being, we must first of all become aware of the empowered beauty of our being. The way we go about our daily life expresses who we are at this moment in time, providing an insight into how we sense and respond to situations. We learn from ourselves, of ourselves, by sensing the physical responses of our concepts and belief systems. Observation of self without intent or classification creates a break in the chain of our thoughts and situations and shifts the focus inwards to the sensations of the body moving to the rhythm of the breath. As one becomes practised and consistent with focused observation, the subtle sensations of the body becomes more coherent and we can pinpoint: the parts of the body that feel dull and the parts that have no feeling, areas of the body that have

reduced nerve and fluid supply from lack of use. The value of this style of learning is in the development of our natural sensory awareness of who we are and what we have. It disengages us from our modern conceptual consciousness and fosters our innate awareness, the voice of reason and wisdom that will guide us to move at the right time, speed and direction. The trainings at Kahuna Mist are based upon these ancient spiritual learning formats of observation of self without judgment. A

ny mention of ‘back to the basics’ conjures up ideas and visions of back to nature and growing our own food. And rightly so, for this is fundamental to our health and wellbeing. As a measure of how important this is, all my earlier books were on this subject, and they became best sellers. Although organic gardening and reconnecting with nature are basic and essential for us to survive our precarious future, if our main thrust is from fear and survival, then we are in trouble. No matter what our actions may be, if they are motivated by any form of fear it matters not at all what we do. Our survival as a species is about the development of our consciousness, not on basic survival techniques. Even the thought of needing to survive is based in the illusion. Any action that is based in illusion comes from the subconscious,

and no matter how good the intention nor how high the ideals, it is not going to make any ‘real’ difference. Beyond the basics of the ‘Back to Earth’ movement there is another much deeper movement, with far too few people involved. Any action that is taken in fear and survival is of the old; not wrong or bad or shouldn’t, but it is based in the illusion of death and endings. Any action that is based in love and truth is of the new; not right or better or should, but it is born from a relationship with truth. This is not an objective truth that is determined by debate and discussion: it is an holistic truth that is lived and experienced. We are now in a time period where a life-cycle is coming to an end. All the signs are evident to anyone who is observant without judgment. What this suggests is that a ‘back to basics’ movement is a natural response to

the ever-increasing perceived dangers of our time. If this movement is lovebased, rather than fear-based, then it is a movement that will reap a very powerful harvest. Of course, it will have a multitude of fear-based people with a need to survive, along with a smaller component of people who are following a natural instinct to reconnect with nature and the Earth on a more loving basis. We are already deeply into our Earth changes, yet the more violent aspects of this is yet to be revealed. The birth of a caterpillar into a butterfly is a good example of what I mean. A butterfly is not a flying caterpillar; it is changed and transmuted. H

ave you ever taken the time to stop and watch the people around you? It can be an amazing revelation. There is so much you can tell about a person by observing how they walk, their facial expressions and general demeanour. Over the years, I have come to realise how unhappy most people look as they go about their daily journey. They rush around and just look so sad. I’ve also found that in cities where it is cold, there is seldom any colour in their clothing, especially in winter. I am from Brisbane in Queensland, where we have beautiful sunshine and enjoy a sub-tropical climate. We tend to wear brighter colours. I love to visit Melbourne, where there are wonderful cafes, great coffee and restaurants. However, there are so many people wrapped in their dark colours, heads down, making their way about their business. Now and then I will catch someone’s eye who must be

thinking the same thing as I am and we share a knowing smile. I was driving to work one day and it was a rainy morning. I passed a bus stop with about a dozen or so people huddled together, yet all looking down at their phones. Only a few minutes later, the sun came out and the most beautiful rainbow appeared. I don’t know about you, but I have always loved the magic of a rainbow. Nature’s beautiful gift. It was on that day that I came up with a quote I am happy to share, “You will never see rainbows if you are always looking down.” A fun thing I have done with my children since they were small is to watch people, especially at airports. I would ask my children to become aware of someone walking past and tell me what they can tell about this person. With the wonderful perception children have, they would say, “Mummy look – here comes a happy lady”. Or, “Mummy, he looks so sad, should I give

him one of my smiles?” As they grew older, they became more attuned. Sadly, I feel the art of picking up the language of the body is diminishing, as many people these days are not even aware of their surroundings, let alone people watching, as they are too busy staring at their phone. Is it any wonder the chiropractors have a new stream of patients, due to neck problems relating to too much time spent gazing at the phone. Do you realise how much you give away about yourself by the way you hold your body, the expression you wear and the way you walk? eto, paleo, vegan, sugar free, gluten free, fructose free, chemical free… it seems like an endless list of labels as to which path we should follow to best serve health and wellbeing. Why has food become so complicated? Never before have we had so much readily available information, both reputable and misguided. To complicate things even more, what works for one person can have a detrimental effect on another… “one man’s medicine is another man’s poison”. What is one to do? The body is designed to be selfregulating and self-healing, when given the right nurture. Regardless of your chosen lifestyle, there are some basics to get right to ensure vibrant health. CELEBRATE GREENS Nutrition is the pathway to disease prevention. The body functions properly at a slightly alkaline pH of 7.4. If alkalines are depleted, the body borrows them from vital organs, causing weakness and risking disease. Focus

on high alkaline foods such as leafy greens, avocado, lemons, good fats, seaweed, celery and cucumber. You can get a big dose of your daily nutritional requirements with a green smoothie, e.g. spinach, cucumber, parsley, lemon, ginger, chia and apple. KEEP HYDRATED Chronic water shortage in the body is linked to most diseases. When we lack sufficient water our physical systems become stressed. For example, if the nervous system is lacking in water, it goes into a stressed state, including the brain. Anxiety, panic, tension, difficulty with learning, and even clumsiness can result. Ironically, the stress itself can cause further dehydration, as the nervous system needs more water to cope with any unknown situation. Drink 6-10 glasses of water a day and take some pink salt or sea salt to balance the water. BREATHE We take an average of 7,884,000 breaths per year, and that’s while sedentary! Lungs are a detox organ

and clear about 80% of toxic waste. Be conscious of your breath for it has the ability to either heal you or harm you. Shallow breathing or breath holding (busyness) creates stress and activates the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight response), and the body cannot heal while in this state. Deep breathing regularly throughout the day switches the body back to parasympathetic nervous system, a calm and relaxed state where the body can rest and digest. An easy technique to master is the 7 rounds of 7. Breathe in for 7 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, breathe out for 7 seconds, and repeat 7 times. Practising daily gratitude and self-love are also essential for a truly joyous and healthy life. Talk kindly to yourself with appreciation, respect, and acceptance, and speak to others the same way. Turn your

inner light switch on

I

f the power went out at your place and you were left in darkness with no TV, computer and mobile phone, you would be forced to get back to basics. A friend of mine mentioned she has a backup of solar lights and emergencies in place. Do the rest of us? The common response would be, “No”. What would you do? Could you cope if the only reliable source which governed your entire life was taken away for a long time? We are so complacent that ‘online’ is the way forward; to surround ourselves with technology and trust it will always be there. However, situations happen, something can go bump in the middle of the night where you are left in darkness. From a personal perspective, what if your inner connection with your light was disrupted or not ‘on’? My life was shattered with a situation like this where my mind, body and soul was not coping. I felt like the ‘power

switch’ had been turned off and my body could not move. My voice was no longer heard and I was feeling alone and lost. This led to an inward search, to the silent world of the unknown. Process and solution was where I found my ‘Tasha Dori’. Here is where my little voice inside assisted and helped me out and where I gained my insight. Nine months later, with some basic food and lifestyle changes and common sense, my sense of worth was revealed and I came out of a dark clouded situation which was turned into a sunny life story. These are the messages that became clear to me: We need to rest. Relax and slow down. By allowing the body to rest, we assist the mind to ‘breathe’. When we can learn how to stop the mind from thinking/doing, we create a space for self to hear the heart, allowing our spirit/soul to sing. Rest is a form of getting back to basics.

Walking along the beach or playing ball in a park with your children, can be the sense of ‘being’ and JOY that allows the mind to rest. Similarly, the activity of making tea is resting and contemplating one’s next movements, which brings clarity and confidence to any situation. Visiting an old friend, going outside into nature – all of these ideas are basic necessities of life. I’ve learnt through experience and training, that creating a basic foundation and allowing self the time to rest, meditate and breathe, can mean you can turn almost any sad situation into a sunny story. C

orrecting my cellular chemistry generated a high level of physical energy, which activated the necessary healing I had been searching for. It became obvious to me this was a direct link to the intuitive aspect of my being, that dwells in all of us. This changed the way I did health and how I treat clients so effectively. This also created a great unravelling in me. Layers of old illness and emotional toxicity were released over months, as I diligently applied the correctional program. Correcting my cellular chemistry, allowed me to heal many of my own physical problems. My body could now hold more energy (nutritional sustenance). I cleared my cellular chemistry through a unique nutritional program that was foundational in nature and spiritual in essence. I had learnt to fully yield and trust the program, where time wasn’t the barometer of my wellness, but patience was. When working with clients, I often

The numbers speak to me in a language that is intuitive, scientific and grounding. L

ately I have seen quite a few people in my practice, asking for a different approach as they have been doing fairly complicated treatments elsewhere with little success. It is essential to go back to the core basics, to try to find the cause of the problem. These are normally the critical factors that will point us to the right diagnosis, and allow us to set a plan of action. I remember as a medical student and as a junior doctor, more senior colleagues telling me “always listen to the patient”. A lot of practitioners get bogged down in the details, without seeing the whole picture or connecting with the whole person. I really focus on the basics that we can modify in our surroundings, starting with: eating wholesome, unprocessed foods, drinking clean water, removing

environmental toxins, reducing stress, moving our bodies and exercising and maintaining good sleep hygiene to name a few. Most of the time these have not been fully addressed, and instead, a patient may have been previously given a stack of supplements, with very little benefits if any at all. I normally stick to basic foundations of good health that I have seen working and getting results over and over again. Simple is best, and nature holds many keys to good health. Although, there is no silver bullet to cure any disease, it is normally a combination of factors that will ‘crack the code’. ’m not sure if it was the queen herself, Marie Kondo, that triggered the reboot of my back to basics lifestyle or I just had a supernatural awakening. We all know the insidious trap of collecting busyness. I was totally lacking moments of joy in my life because I built a super busy lifestyle and never seemed to have downtime. So, all of a sudden, I stopped and realised I needed to get back to basics. magine if you and your work could be seen by more people? And your business could expand in all the directions you desire? Right now, what energy comes up when you think about the sentences above? If it’s peace and joy, great! Although you may still desire to keep reading. And if the energy is fear, doubt or sheer terror, did you know there are methods to assist? Many know I started this magazine from scratch ten years ago. I had been working in the field of counselling/ psychology and freelance writing previously but a magazine was a WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE. I really had to look at my own fears around being seen by more people and sharing my open and honest expression in the magazine every month (along with a big picture of myself) and also ‘showing up’ with every aspect of the business. None of this was super comfortable for me to start with, I mean come on, I

didn’t go to ‘how to make a magazine school’; what was I thinking starting a business from scratch in the media! And did you know it was eight pages to start with and I did the whole thing myself on Publisher? Who did I think I was? From my experience, it’s our belief systems and certain energies that can get in the way of creating a business and have it grow. And we can shift and change these energies, although it does take a willingness to receive. These beliefs and energies that hold you back are a bit like putting a big cover over your advert or article in the magazine (that’s if you have even allowed yourself to start the promotions process). What if you could take that cover off, so more people could see you and your work and benefit from what you offer. Is it time to stand up and share your gifts with the world? I offer face-to-face, 90-minute sessions which involve an energy

process that can help to ‘defrag the hard drive of your inner computer’ or one-hour Skype sessions where you can share the things that are really going on for you when it comes to: writing articles, putting an ad campaign together, being seen by a local, national and international readership, or starting a business and creating one that is functional and growing. Facilitation can assist you to be the peace and space you naturally be and head in the direction of having more people know who you are, so they know how you can assist them. This work may not guarantee that you will become ‘an Oprah’ or create an ‘Apple empire’ overnight (and please don’t let that stop any of your big dreams), it may assist though, with you tapping into what success looks like for you and truly create what you desire in the world, in your own way! A man’s perspective:

How to find love

ver the years, many clients have come to me with complex examples of patterns they endure in their intimate relationships and ultimately the relationship they have with themselves. It doesn’t feel good to be stuck in the cycle of knowing what you want out of life and your relationship, yet having no clear way of moving past the blocks, patterns or stories that seem to dominate and resurface every time you find your mojo with someone you love. Getting back to basics was really the starting ground for me with understanding how to be in relationship and move towards creating a profoundly awakening joyful union. After enduring what seemed like an eternity, struggling through relationship after relationship and pondering the imminent demise of my 10-year marriage, I decided that these blocks, patterns and stories must end. I would

do whatever it took to attract and create a profound relationship. As a man, my first true love was my mum, and this is where my relationship with the feminine began. The hurts and fears, the sadness of loss, and the joy of connection and love, were all formed as a little boy. I spent a lot of time exploring my relationship with the feminine, deepening my relationship with the aspects of myself that had remained hidden and trapped. Looking now at my relationship with the feminine and reflecting on my first marriage, I truly see how I was just moving from the space of unresolved pain. Until we see, feel and know all parts of ourselves, we will be trapped in the cycle of unmet needs and reactivity. I

wanted to write a piece this month around honoring your life’s path. It has been an intense couple of months energetically for so many people. There is no doubt that life can get tough at times. It can be particularly rough for those of us who are energy sensitives and empaths, as we feel so much. It can be difficult to decipher between what is our own feelings and what is someone else’s. When we are experiencing challenges or just wondering what the point of life is, we can forget we are on a journey. We have chosen to come here (for various reasons) but ultimately, as souls, we are seeking illumination and spiritual expansion through this lifetime. Although, it may not feel like it, we truly are on a sacred path and as we learn to remember and honor this, we can experience the challenges in our life in a

whole new way. If we can tune in to the bigger picture, beyond our struggles, we will begin to feel that our life is a great gift and an opportunity to create, seek and expand. We can choose to use this opportunity or we can choose to dwell in the darkness. No one experiences the same things in this world, but we all get to choose what to make of it. This is not to say we pretend we don’t feel like crap or that we are not hurt or angered by things that have happened. We must honour our feelings and experiences. However, we have the power to and can choose how we perceive things! No one should ever tell you that the journey is going to be straight-forward and should be all highs and successes all the time. I don’t think that is what it is all about. The challenges are just as rich as the highs – it is how we choose

to see the higher purpose for our journey. Through relationship, we have a great opportunity to learn the most about ourselves. How we navigate our way through the obstacles is certainly a way we can build up our strength and resolve, and learn to address challenges from heart rather than fear. It is crucial to our paths, particularly as energy sensitive and/or empaths, that we do not allow ourselves to get stuck in hurt and pain. We are here for a reason; we are here to find the strength in love and compassion and it starts first and foremost with us and then through gratitude and understanding for where and who we are. T

here are people I know (and the number is growing) who have experienced a piercing arrow to the heart over the left breast. Not the arrow of cupid but the arrow of divine love shot from a member of one’s soul family. It can happen anytime, anywhere, and when you least expect it. Some people call this hit a ‘twin flame’ experience but that is a misnomer. Theories about ‘twin flame’ hold that our soul has split in two upon incarnation and we are constantly, in our human three dimensional life, consciously or unconsciously, searching for the other part of ourself. This search has typically been for the perfect partner but it actually isn’t what we think it might be.

Another interpretation of this experience has reference to ‘soul mate’, yet there can be countless ‘soul mates’ available to us on an inter-dimensional level. I prefer to call this a ‘twin soul’ recognition that vibrates at a higher energy level than ‘soul mate’. ‘Twin souls’ are two halves of the same soul, mirror each other and have many life parallels. Likely to incarnate at different human ages, they are the same soul age and psychically connected through the quantum field. This is an energetic connection not a physical one. Our human mind wants to put a name or a face on the initial exquisite feelings of bliss associated with this hit. I did when it happened to me, and I did find the archer. But it wasn’t what I had expected. The strike is actually painful and debilitating and can last for a very long time. For one person it lasted over four years. We belong to a soul group, a family pod who vibrate as a stream of consciousness at a particular signature frequency according to the DNA

blueprint of the pod. Andrew Bartzis, the galactic historian, explains that each soul family pod is a soul lineage created with a theme. We contract with our soul pod to work on the issues within the theme. The soul group grows through the expansion of our highest consciousness within the theme. My soul pod is concerned with the soul sustainability of Mother Earth and it includes keeping the electromagnetic grid of the planet clear, clean, strong and vibrant. I came to know I had this job through a difficult period lasting almost a decade whereupon I was targeted and attacked by dark entities that wanted to control the Earth, the strongest amongst them reptilian in nature. I was a guardian of the most important womb entry grid point on Earth. Unbeknownst to me at first, my twin soul was doing similar work in the dream space. Our galactic DNA lineage is the key of entry into the soul pod. Earth holds the space for that DNA lineage and includes not only the soul pod but also the soul pod ancestors.

We subconsciously use telepathic communication in the soul frequency bandwidth to maintain a stream contact with other soul pod members. The soul pod is like a hive mind that grows in ‘soul wealth’ through sharing this energy and feeding the other minds as the higher self. Andrew explains that soul pods are meant to migrate together using the dream space to co-create. Unfortunately, in a world of domination and control, we are separated upon incarnation and have to go through the lower density experience of polarity. The intention for an Earthly experience is to bring the soul pod together in unity consciousness. Twin souls are meant to find each other so that the vibration of the unity consciousness grid rises up even more. In finding each other, twin souls shift their energy from duality back into unity; they are two sides of the same coin. The arrow in the heart is a striking moment when their energetic flow makes them telepathic and empathic with each other and enables them to intuitively know what the other is thinking, feeling, desiring or even processing. My twin soul and I experienced a telepathic and empathic connection, knowing when and what the other was thinking, and feeling the other’s emotions. This was confusing to both of us. In the confusion, my twin soul decided to remove me from her heart, accusing me of deliberately being

in her energy field, scanning her thoughts and emotions. This was not true and I couldn’t convince her otherwise. But I also couldn’t explain it. I came across the phenomena of quantum entanglement only after we ceased contact. According to Wikipedia, quantum entanglement is a physical phenomenon when groups of particles generate or interact in ways such that the quantum state of each particle cannot be described independently of the other, even when separated by a large distance or time. Twin souls share the same ‘one soul’ resonance and vibrate at the same frequency in the quantum state. My twin soul’s energy was a frequency that matched my own. It was a powerful, inexplicable draw towards the other and felt like an extension of myself. When the universe crossed our paths for the first time in this lifetime, we were caught off guard. There was a sense of the strength of the connection, and it was not something I had ever experienced before. At the time I knew about ‘twin flames’ and had counselled clients about this spiritual phenomena, however I had no idea about a ‘twin soul’. After the first meeting, our connection was genuine and undeniable. Something was stirring as we were drawn towards each other. The more she shared, the more taken aback I was that here we were, complete strangers (supposedly) with similar

life stories and familiar spiritual work independently of each other. I underwent a deep, deep process to work out what kind of relationship this was. I’m not sure that I ever did while we were in contact and this caused much angst between us. Our telepathic communication was open and guarded at the same time, as we realised we could affect each other’s mood. Just like human twins, we were on the same frequency channel, able to complete each other’s sentences. It was an uncanny experience. The phenomena of quantum entanglement helps to describe the telepathic and empathic communication that occurs between twin souls. I instinctively knew who she was as a spiritual being, although she was different as an individual. I understood she came from the same soul source and that we had a group soul connection. I belatedly realised our twin soul quantum entanglement phenomena, something that scared her away, for the arrow of love was a catalytic event that opened the door of the heart to receive divine energies, divine love, unconditional love for self, for the other, and then for humanity.
