Aslan

Celebrating thirty years in the business this year, Aslan emerged from Dublin’s northside, in the mid 1980’s. Their debut single, ‘This Is’, released in 1986 was a huge hit and became the longest ever play-listed single on RTÉ 2fm. With albums such as ‘Feel No Shame’ and ‘Uncased’ and searing live performances, the group has maintained an iconic presence on the Irish music scene. The band are currently gearing up for the release of their brand new studio album on EMI Records this year. Entitled ‘Nudie Books and Frenchies’, the album title is a tongue-in-cheek, nostalgic nod to their teenage years. Saturday 31 March Doors 8pm | Concert 9pm Admission =C20

DRAMA Jasango Theatre Company presents

My Brilliant Divorce Jasango Theatre are back with a bang with Geraldine Aron’s achingly funny My Brilliant Divorce. Following a two-year Irish tour and award-winning performances in the USA with Bombshells, Jasango brings you this wittily observant comedy. If you liked Bombshells you’ll love this one! The comedy explores what life is like for Angela Kennedy-Lipsky, recently dumped by her accountant husband for a younger model. Rebuilding her life, she finds herself adrift in a sea of weird sexual encounters, sneaky solicitors, phone-in counsellors, a bad case of hypochondria and impending poverty. Should she fight to keep her husband? Or should she sign the final papers and move on? This fast-paced modern comedy is not to be missed! Wednesday 18 April 8pm Admission =C14 FILM Nenagh Film Club presents

Cane Toads: The Conquest

Dir. Mark Lewis | Australia | 2011 | 85 mins | Cert PG

A comic yet provocative documentary detailing Australia’s most notorious environmental blunder. The cane toad was introduced to Australia from Hawaii in 1935 in an attempt to control the greyback cane beetle, which at the time was decimating the Queensland sugar cane crop. Hailed as a saviour, the toad was enthusiastically welcomed. Unfortunately, the toads were disinclined to stay in the cane fields and eat beetles. Instead, they set about doing what cane toads do best multiplying, migrating and thriving. Director Mark Lewis injects his trademark irreverence and humour into the story as he follows a trail of human conflict and extraordinary close encounters. Thursday 19 April 8pm Admission =C7 (includes membership fee of =C1)

Drive

Dir. Nicholas Winding Refn | United States | 2011 | 98 mins | Cert

The 2011 American drama film directed by Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn, starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, and Albert Brooks has already been labelled a classic. A simple recap of its story will probably leave you unenthralled, as, in its broadest outlines, Drive is but another modern neo-noir with a tough, taciturn hero (a stunt driver by day, a getaway driver by night) caught in a moral conundrum with some very bad men. However the propulsive nature of the film and the twists and turns of the storyline, will leave the viewer in no doubt that this is a visceral entertainment of the highest order. Thursday 24 May 8pm Admission =C7 (includes membership fee of =C1) COMMUNITY Mayor Virginia O’Dowd presents
