Plainview Water District Thanks The POB Community For Support In Toys For Tots Drive

The Plainview-Old Bethpage community once again showed its generosity by contributing to the toy drive at the Plainview Water District. As it has done in years past, the Plainview Water District partnered with the Toys for Tot’s Foundation, sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. The District headquarters serves as an official drop-off location for the foundation and collected more than 100 toys this year.

“It really warms our hearts to see this level of participation and the generosity of those who live within this great community,” said Plainview Water District Chairman Marc Laykind.

“The Plainview-Old Bethpage residents always do their part to help out and participate in these great events. These contributions are going to make this holiday season more enjoyable for so many people, and that is what this effort and this time of year is all about.”

The U.S. Marine Corps Reserve ‘Toys for Tots’ Foundation is a nonprofit organization that aims to provide all children across the United States with happiness and joy throughout the holiday season. Through the gift of a new toy, disadvantaged children will not be overlooked during the holidays, and will know that a community of people cares for them.

“We are grateful for the community’s continued support in these efforts each year,” said PWD Commissioner Andrew Bader. “The PWD is thrilled to continue to take part in these important causes like this and help out in any way possible. Thanks to the loving spirit of the POB community, there will be many kids with smiles on their faces this holiday season.”

Since the District started this partnership several years ago, hundreds of toys have been donated from the community to support this cause. The Plainview

Water District thanks the Plainview-Old Bethpage community for their generosity and continued support.

“It is a privilege to once again partner with the Toys for Tots’ Foundation and support their cause to bring a smile to every child’s face this holiday season,” said PWD Commissioner Amanda Field. “We can’t thank our staff, industry partners and the members of the POB community for their generosity and participating in this year’s successful toy drive.”

For additional information about the Plainview Water District, please call (516) 931-6469 or visit the Plainview Water District website at www.plainviewwater.org. Residents can also sign up to receive information by submitting their email address through the District’s homepage or following them on Facebook in order to stay up-to-date with District activities and initiatives.

Hometown Heroes Recognition Applications Now Available

Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino and Councilman Steve Labriola announced that the Town is now accepting applications for the 2023 Hometown Heroes’ Community Recognition Program. This initiative recognizes the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces – both living and deceased – who are current or former Town of Oyster Bay residents.

“My Town Board colleagues and I were amazed by the outpouring of support this program has received from residents, businesses and local heroes,” said Councilman Labriola. “We are proud to return this important initiative to our communities and look forward to further recognizing our veterans, active duty service members,

and their families for their commitment to defend our freedoms and democracy.”

Banners bearing the nominated individual’s name, rank, photograph and area of service will be unveiled throughout selected park facilities across the Town of Oyster Bay in the months leading up to Veterans Day in November. Any interested individual or organization who would wish to sponsor a banner can remit $75 to sponsor the production of a banner. No profit is made from this program. Once the banners are displayed, the Town will maintain the banners, and will remain on display until Veterans Day, where they will then be taken down to avoid any inclement winter weather and returned to the service family or their loved ones. Those who sponsored a banner last year

are reminded to submit a new application in order to be included in the 2023 season. Applications must be received by March 10, 2023.

Supervisor Saladino added, “This is an especially meaningful way to honor those who bravely and selflessly served our nation. Together as a community we will honor the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who sacrificed a great deal for our nation, as well as many local veterans who continue to serve our community and their fellow veterans through advocacy efforts.”

For more information on how to sponsor a banner, visit www.oysterbaytown.com/ herobanners to download or submit an application, or call (516) 797-4121.

On Tuesday, December 20th, 2022, a program was held in the parking lot of the Mid Island Y JCC in Plainview to Shine A Light on antisemitism. Antisemitism, has, unfortunately, been intensifying through social media and pop culture.

During Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, Shine A Light has become a way for

communities, and elected officials to make the public aware of different forms of antisemitism and to speak out against it.

A Menorah was lit to celebrate the third night of Hanukkah during the event.

More than 200 people showed up to support this program including numerous dignitaries,

politicians, and organizations. In addition to the speakers, there were giveaways as well as entertainment including a DJ and firemen on top of a fire truck where they dispensed candy to children.

Equestrian

Pal-O-Mine Equestrian is a local non-profit organization that began in 1995 as a therapeutic horseback riding program for individuals with disabilities and other vulnerable populations. They grew from having two programs, eight horses and 80 students per week to 11 programs, 25 horses and 400 students per week - and they continue to grow today!

“2023 will be a year of physical growth with our new educational center and treatment clinic, as well as spiritual growth by continuing to serve the many who need our 13 acre farm and herd to help them heal from trauma, grow in personal strength and learn new things to brighten their future,” said Lisa Gatti, Founder of Pal-O-Mine Equestrian. The organization will be o ering various events throughout 2023, some of which are noted below.

February 15th they will kick-o a 3 month virtual Hay Drive Fundraiser. “We’ve been holding this Fundraiser once a year for 3 years now because in the last few years the cost of hay has tripled,” said Lisa. “Every penny donated through this fundraiser goes directly to helping us buy hay for our herd. I’d like to warmly thank everyone in advance for their support and donations, it truly helps us more than you know.” This year they are proud to o er a new text to donate feature. More information is available on their website (www.pal-o-mine.org).

Additionally, May 3rd through May 7th from 9:30AM-2:30PM

they are holding their annual J-STEP Spring Craft Fair at their farm, located at 829 Old Nichols Road in Islandia.

J-STEP, which stands for Job Security Through Equine Partnership, is their Vocational Program. The program o ers a paid internship that runs 5 days per week for people with disabilities who are 18 years or older. Every item showcased at this fair is handcrafted by the J-STEP interns.

Lastly, May 4th from 6PM-9PM they will hold a Stable Spirits Art Show and Auction in their barn. This will be a night you won’t want to miss, filled with local wine and cheese, creativity and philanthropy! Pal-O-Mine will proudly feature up and coming artists in individual “stalls” in the barn and proceeds from each sale will go towards building their new educational center and clinic.

If you are interested in finding out more about their J-STEP Program or learning about the opportunity to have your art displayed at the Stable Spirits Art Show, contact Tessa at TessaVF@pal-o-mine. org. The Sarah Grace Foundation Continues Spreading Hope

Despite many challenges this year, The Sarah Grace Foundation For Children With Cancer, Inc., has continued in the pursuit of its mission, continuing to fulfill its core goal of supporting children and their families during cancer treatment.

The Hicksville organization continues to reimagine fundraising through virtual platforms and is planning the return of in-person events beginning in 2023, just in time for its 20th anniversary. The Foundation continues to reach out to new and previous corporate and private donors as well as researching grants to help sustain the many programs sponsored in support of children with cancer. Despite the current economy, many donors still contributed what they could to support the Foundation’s cause, generously allowing the Foundation to continue its work at a time when it is needed more than ever. The Foundation recently concluded its annual Holiday

Extravaganza fundraiser that provides for toys, gift cards and financial aid to children and their families. The holiday raffle raised more than $5,000 towards holiday programs. In the spring, the Foundation held its second “Hugs For Sarah” Virtual 5k which raised an additional $6,000 and is currently planning its next 5K which will be a combination virtual and in-person event. The Foundation’s staple fundraiser for 16 years was its annual “Night of Laughter” which was shelved during the pandemic. The Sarah Grace team is currently exploring innovative ways to bring back this popular event.

Thanks to a hardworking team of dedicated volunteers, the Sarah Grace Foundation continues to fulfill its mission. Core programs such as the Escape Hatch, the Bead Program, Gabe’s Chemo Duck, Sarah Grace’s Book Angels and financial aid for meals, transportation, household expenses, funeral

expenses and more have been able to continue.

“The pediatric cancer centers we partner with depend on the services and assistance we can provide,” Foundation President Matthew Weippert said. “We’ve always done whatever we can to provide for these children and their families. We felt the financial strain, we lived it and have walked in their shoes and have an obligation to ease their pain.”

As the back-to-school season approached, the Foundation was able to distribute backpacks filled with school supplies to pediatric cancer centers throughout the area. At Halloween, the Foundation continued its tradition of providing more than 550 Halloween trick-or-treat goodie bags to children with cancer. Due to health reasons, certain hospitals could not accept food products, so instead the Foundation provided fall craft projects for the children.

For its 2022 annual

toy drive, the Foundation continued to think outside the box. The extreme need for these families has not diminished, but has instead increased as a result of the economy. Throughout November and December, the Foundation was fortunate to receive toy donations through drives at Ray Leventhal Clothing in Plainview, Hicksville Middle School, online toy drives and generous donations from the community.

“Our Foundation, along with the children and families we serve, is forever indebted to the generosity of these organizations and all of those involved,” stated Weippert. “Coordinating a toy drive may seem like an easy task, but it is not. Many hours go into planning, organizing and implementing its success. This could not have succeeded without Sarah’s Angels facilitating toy pickups, sorting and shipping. Gift certificates are great, but the smile on a child’s face when they

unwrap a toy is priceless.

The Foundation continues to work on ideas for additional programs that will support these children who want to be children, not patients in a hospital. Having a serious illness is devastating for anyone, but even more so for a child with cancer.

“We are the stewards of your generosity and can only be successful through your kindness and generosity,” said Weippert. “No child or family should face their treatment alone. That’s why the Foundation remains committed to the children we have served for over 19 years and is extremely grateful for the continued support the community has provided. When a child has cancer, the family has cancer, and the financial strain on the family is difficult regardless of income. In many cases, a parent is forced to leave work to care for the sick child and this exacerbates the financial strain, this is where the Sarah Grace Foundation

is able to provide financial support.”

2023 is a very important year for The Sarah Grace Foundation as it marks the 20th anniversary of supporting children with cancer and their families.

“This anniversary is a milestone in that it is difficult to believe we have been doing this for 20 years, but even more difficult to accept that our angel, Sarah, has been gone from us that long,” Weippert said. “This is not a celebration, but a commemoration of a young life cut too short, and a recognition of all the positive things being done in Sarah’s memory.”

For more information on The Sarah Grace Foundation, please call (516) 433-9745 or visit the Foundation’s website at www. TheSarahGraceFoundation. org. Donations or requests for information may be sent to the Foundation at 17 E. Old Country Road, Unit B, PMB 202, Hicksville, NY 11801

“It is heart-warming and inspiring to see our students come together to give back to their community,” said Maria Rivera Jespersen, Elementary Character Education teacher.

“Through their efforts, we were able to donate a few hundred pounds of cat and dog food, hundreds of cleaning supply items, pet toys, and over 30 large custodial bags and boxes filled with assorted items! These are all staple items the rescue shelter needs to help keep the animals healthy and to provide a clean, safe, nurturing home for them.”

Character Education has been part of the Middle Country Central School District’s teachings for the past two decades. In the last two years, a more defined curriculum has been developed and

implemented during the elementary school students’ weekly library time. Each of the elementary schools in the Middle Country School District can choose a project that will engage its students in a community service effort benefitting community members in need or a specific community organization.

For more information regarding the Middle Country Central School District and its students’ many achievements, please visit the District’s website: https://www.mccsd.net/.

Pravato Reminds Residents To Avoid Penalties By Paying General Taxes Prior To February 10th

Oyster Bay Town Receiver of Taxes Jeffrey Pravato reminds residents that the First Half of the 2023 General Tax Levy was due on January 1st, but can be paid without penalty through February 10th. Please be certain to sign your check, payable to Jeffrey P. Pravato, Receiver of Taxes. Indicate your property’s S.D. Code, Section, Block, Lot, and Phone number on the check.

“The Town of Oyster Bay did not raise taxes for 2023, however, the General Tax bill also includes amounts for Nassau County and special districts. New York State Laws allows my office to provide taxpayers with a 40-day penalty free period from the date the tax is due during which payment may be made without penalty,” added Receiver Pravato.

“After the 40 days, State Law requires a one percent penalty be added for each month the tax remains unpaid, retroactive to January 1st. Don’t delay, make your payment before February 10th and ensure you aren’t paying more out

of pocket than you need to.”

Taxes can be paid inperson at Town Hall North (74 Audrey Avenue in Oyster Bay) and at Town Hall South (977 Hicksville Road in Massapequa) daily from 9:00am to 4:45pm to assist residents and accept payments with either a check, cash or credit card.* Both indoor offices and walkup outdoor windows are staffed to assist the public. On February 9th and 10th, both offices will be open from 8:00am to 6:00pm. When paying in person, residents are reminded to bring the entire tax bill. Drop Boxes have been installed at both Town Hall North and Town Hall South for residents to make payments when the Tax Office is closed.

Residents who prefer to mail in their payments should send them to the Office of the Receiver of Taxes, 74 Audrey Avenue, Oyster Bay, N.Y. 117711539. Please be certain to sign your check, and make it payable to Jeffrey P. Pravato, Receiver of Taxes. Indicate your property’s

S.D. Code, Section, Block, Lot and phone number on the check, along with your payment stub. Residents should NOT write on, fold, staple or otherwise deface the tax stub as it can cause the computer system to reject the payment.

Taxpayers can access 2023 General Tax information at www. oysterbaytown.com.

Residents may view tax bills, print out a hard copy, or pay taxes with an ACH check payment using a checking account for a service fee of $1.75 cents*, or by credit card for a much higher fee* charged by the credit card companies. *Town of Oyster Bay receives no portion of this fee.

For more information on property taxes and/or payments, residents may call at (516) 624-6400 or email receiveroftaxes@ oysterbay-ny.gov. Callers are requested to have the school district, section, block and lot numbers of the property in question available. This information is listed on the tax bill and on the property deed.

TERMS OF SALE

Such tax liens shall be sold subject to any and all superior tax liens of sovereignties and other municipalities and to all claims of record which the County may have thereon and subject to the provisions of the Federal and State Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Acts.

However, such tax liens shall have priority over the County’s Differential Interest Lien, representing the excess, if any, of the interest and penalty borne at the maximum rate over the interest and penalty borne at the rate at which the lien is purchased.

The Purchaser acknowledges that the tax lien(s) sold pursuant to these Terms of Sale may be subject to pending bankruptcy proceedings and/ or may become subject to such proceedings which may be commenced during the period in which a tax lien is held by a successful bidder or the assignee of same, which may modify a Purchaser’s rights with respect to the lien(s) and the property securing same. Such bankruptcy proceedings shall not affect the validity of the tax lien. In addition to being subject to pending bankruptcy proceedings and/or the Federal and State Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Acts, said purchaser’s right of foreclosure may be affected by the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery and Enforcement

Act(FIRREA),12 U.S.C. ss 1811 et.seq., with regard to real property under Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation(FDIC) receivership.

The County Treasurer reserves the right, without further notice and at any time, to withdraw from sale any of the parcels of land or premises herein listed.

The Nassau County Treasurer reserves the right to intervene in any bankruptcy case/ litigation where the property affected by the tax liens sold by the Treasurer is part of the bankruptcy estate. However, it is the sole responsibility of all tax lien purchasers to protect their legal interests in any bankruptcy case affecting their purchased tax lien, including but not limited to the filing of a proof of claim on their behalf, covering their investment in said tax lien. The Nassau County Treasurer and Nassau County and its agencies, assumes no responsibility for any legal representation of any tax lien purchaser in any legal proceeding including but not limited to a bankruptcy case where the purchased tax lien is at risk.

The rate of interest and penalty at which any person purchases the tax lien shall be established by his bid. Each purchaser, immediately after the sale thereof, shall pay to the County Treasurer ten per cent of the amount for which the tax liens have been sold and the remaining ninety per cent within thirty days after such sale. If the purchaser at the tax sale shall fail to pay the remaining ninety per cent

within ten days after he has been notified by the County Treasurer that the certificates of sale are ready for delivery, then all amounts deposited with the County Treasurer including but not limited to the ten per cent theretofore paid by him shall, without further notice or demand, be irrevocably forfeited by the purchaser and shall be retained by the County Treasurer as liquidated damages and the agreement to purchase shall be of no further effect. Time is of the essence in this sale. This sale is held pursuant to the Nassau County Administrative Code and interested parties are referred to such Code for additional information as to terms of the sale, rights of purchasers, maximum rates of interest and other legal incidents of the sale.

Furthermore, as to the bidding,

1. The bidder(s) agree that they will not work with any other bidder(s) to increase, maintain or stabilize interest rates or collaborate with any other bidder(s) to gain an unfair competitive advantage in the random number generator in the event of a tie bid(s) on a tax certificate. Bidder(s) further agree not to employ any bidding strategy designed to create an unfair competitive advantage in the tiebreaking process in the upcoming tax sale nor work with any other bidder(s) to engage in any bidding strategy that will result in a rotational award of tax certificates.

2. The tax certificate(s) the

Bidder will bid upon, and the interest rate(s) bid, will be arrived at independently and without direct or indirect consultation, communication or agreement with any other bidder and that the tax certificate(s) the Bidder will bid upon, and the interest rate(s) to be bid, have not been disclosed, directly or indirectly, to any other bidder, and will not be disclosed, directly or indirectly, to any other bidder prior to the close of bidding. No attempt has been made or will be made to, directly or indirectly, induce any other bidder to refrain from bidding on any tax certificate, to submit complementary bids, or to submit bids at specific interest rates.

3. The bids to be placed by the Bidder will be made in good faith and not pursuant to any direct or indirect, agreement or discussion with, or inducement from, any other bidder to submit a complementary or other noncompetitive bid.

4. If it is determined that the bidder(s) have violated any of these bid requirements then their bid shall be voided and if they were the successful bidder the lien and any deposits made in connection with said bid shall be forfeited.
