Robin Hepworth President, Chamber of Commerce of the Massapequa’s
Dear Chamber Members and Massapequa Neighbors,
As we wrap up another Chamber year, I just want to take a moment to say thank you - and to look back at everything we’ve done together with pride and gratitude. It’s been a truly amazing year for the Chamber of Commerce of the Massapequas. Thanks to the dedication and hard work of our volunteer Executive Officers and Board of Directors, the Chamber is stronger than ever. We now have 278 members and are in great nancial shape. That says a lot about the support and trust we have from our local business community - so thank you for being part of it.
This year, we made a real effort to be more involved in the community, and it paid off in such meaningful ways. We held some exciting rst-ever events, like our St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a beautiful Breast Cancer Awareness Walk in honor of our dear friend and Past President Patricia Orzano, and a super fun Trunk or Treat in the fall. At the same time, we kept our beloved traditions going strong. From our second Taste of Massapequa in April to the Holiday Fair and Christmas Tree & Menorah Lighting Ceremony, there was something special for everyone. We expanded our scholarship program, ran successful food and toy drives, and held heartfelt ceremonies to recognize our police officers, re ghters, and veterans. Our networking events also gave our members a chance to connect and grow their businesses.
One of the biggest highlights was our Annual Street Festival, dedicated to Past Presidents Anthony Ventiera and Patricia Orzano. It was an amazing day that brought the community together and honored two people who meant so much to us. Huge thanks to Keith Wilson (Event Chairperson), along with Steve Parmiter and Pastor Chris Merz (Co-Vice Chairs) for putting their all into making it such a success, and to Massapequa Imaging an affiliate of Northwell Health for their generous sponsorship as the Main Event Sponsor.
We also had a great time at our Western-themed Installation Ceremony and Awards Dinner. It was a fun evening lled with good company and great energy as we welcomed our new Executive Officers and Board of Directors. I was honored to be sworn in for a second term as President by Legislator James Kennedy, and our Board of Directors were proudly sworn in by our good friend Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino along with Councilman Andrew Monteleone. Special thanks to Masone Masonry for sponsoring the event, Investment Insight Wealth Management LLC for sponsoring the awards - and to everyone who came out and made it such a fun and memorable night!
Looking ahead, we’ve got some exciting things coming up. For the rst time, the Chamber will be sponsoring the reworks at the Village of Massapequa Park’s Fireworks Display at Mans eld Park in July - and we’re thrilled to help bring this summer tradition to life. We’re also planning our rst-ever Chamber Member Picnic in August. This is a free event for our members, just to say thank you. It’ll be a laid-back afternoon with good food and great company - stay tuned for more info!
Before I close, I want to give a huge shoutout to our Executive Officers and Board of Directors. Your time, your energy, and your heart have made such a difference this year, and I couldn’t be more grateful. I’m really looking forward to what’s ahead. Let’s keep the momentum going, keep supporting each other, and keep making Massapequa the vibrant, connected community we all love.
With heartfelt thanks,
Robin Hepworth, President Chamber of Commerce of the Massapequa’s

Prepare Pets For Fourth Of July Festivities
Many people are eager for Independence Day celebrations in early summer. There is much to be excited about, as festivities often begin in the afternoon with barbecues and pool parties, and commence late at night after fireworks shows that light up the night sky. Still, not everyone enjoys the extra noise and busy nature of July 4th parties, particularly furry members of the family. Animal control services often report an increase in lost animals between July 4th and July 6th. That’s because the excitement of the holiday puts pets out of their comfort zones. While pet owners need not cancel their July 4th plans, they should take heed of the many ways to keep their pets safe during the festivities.
Update identification
Be sure prior to any July 4th events that pets are wearing collars with current identification information. If an address or phone number has changed since the last time you updated microchip records, be sure to check the account is current.
Be careful with alcoholic drinks Party hosts typically serve beer, wine and cocktails. Alcoholic beverages have the potential to poison pets, says the ASPCA. Animals can become very intoxicated, severely depressed or go into comas if they drink alcohol. Keep spirited drinks well out of reach.
Prepare Pets For Fourth Of July Festivities

Check with the vet
Many pets are prone to anxiety from loud noises, such as thunderstorms and fireworks, and lots of commotion — something that occurs in spades come July 4th. Some veterinarians recommend a small course of antianxiety medication or a sedative to help pets cope with the stimuli.
Create a quiet space
Allow pets to ride out the day in their comfortable,
quiet and cozy retreats. If necessary, create a space in an interior room. Cover the pet crate with a blanket and offer favorite toys or bedding to create a soothing environment.
Place notes on doors and gates
While it’s best to keep pets in a locked room away from the fray, some pets like to socialize with guests and are not bothered by noises. However, alert guests with notes posted on doors and fence gates to check to make sure pets
are not trying to escape behind them. All doors should be closed firmly when entering or exiting.
Pick up debris
Firework debris can rain down on properties even if you were not shooting off the fireworks. Curious pets may pick it up or eat it, which runs the risk of an upset stomach or even an intestinal blockage. Check your yard before letting pets out to play.
Keep an eye on the grill
Pets can be opportunists, and those burgers and chicken drumsticks smell delicious to pets. Pets that get too close to the grill can become injured. And if pets eat leftovers, they may end up with digestive distress or even be poisoned by foods that are toxic to cats and dogs.

District Attorney & Town Partner To Protect Seniors From Scammers
In a concerted effort to safeguard senior citizens from increasingly prevalent scams, Nassau County District Attorney Anne T. Donnelly and Oyster Bay Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino are partnering to host an educational seminar on Monday, June 9th at 1:30pm at the Hicksville Community Center, 28 W. Carl Street, Hicksville, NY 11801. The initiative aims to equip seniors and their caregivers with the knowledge and tools necessary to recognize, report, and combat fraudulent schemes.
Senior citizens, often targeted due to their limited familiarity with modern technology and scam tactics, face heightened risks of manipulation. Factors such as loneliness and medicationrelated vulnerabilities
can exacerbate their susceptibility. Recognizing these challenges, District Attorney Donnelly and Supervisor Saladino are committed to providing essential information and resources to help protect the senior community.
The seminars will cover a range of topics including:
• Common scam tactics and how to identify them
• Steps to take if you suspect a scam
• Practical strategies for safeguarding personal information
• Resources for reporting fraudulent activities
“Protecting our seniors is a top priority,” said Supervisor Saladino. “By working with District Attorney Donnelly, we are taking proactive steps to ensure that our elderly community members are
informed and empowered against deceitful tactics.”
District Attorney Donnelly stated, “My office is dedicated to combating fraud using all the tools at our disposal, and community engagement is vital to keeping Nassau County safe. Through these educational seminars, seniors will learn how to spot the warning signs of a scam and, most importantly, protect themselves and their finances. Working together with leaders like Supervisor Saladino, we can fight back against senior scams across our county and blunt their impact on our most vulnerable residents.”
Residents are encouraged to attend these seminars to gain valuable insights and share the information with family and friends.

New York Blood Center Issues Urgent Call For Donors As Blood Supply Drops 20% Ahead Of Trauma Season
New York Blood Center (NYBC) has issued an urgent call for blood donations, especially from those with types O+ and O- blood. The current supply of Oblood, the universal blood type used in emergencies, has dropped to a critically low two-day level, and overall collections are nearly 20% below hospital demand. NYBC expects to collect only about 6,500 donations this week, falling approximately 1,600
donations short of what is needed to maintain a safe and stable blood supply in New York.
Spring travel, school breaks, and packed calendars have kept regular donors away—leaving donation levels dangerously low at a time when they should be ramping up. Each year, more than 56,000 traumas are reported in New York State, most occurring between May and September when accidents,
car crashes, and violent injuries rise dramatically. Blood transfusions are often needed to treat traumas, and a spike in traumatic accidents can cause a strain on the blood supply.
Type O+ is the most common blood type, representing nearly 40% of the U.S. population. Type O- is the universal blood type and is commonly used in emergency settings. A shortage of both types,
both locally and nationally, poses serious concerns for our healthcare system, and the need for donors is critical.
“Spring can be an exciting season with warmer weather on the way and fun holiday celebrations, but it’s also a critical time of year for the blood supply,” said Andrea Cefarelli,
trauma-heavy summer season, the need is more urgent than ever. We’re calling on our community, especially type O donors, to roll up their sleeves and make a donation today. Your blood donation could be the lifeline that ensures our hospitals are ready to face any emergency that comes their way.”

5 for 5 successful transactions thanks to this “Dream Team!” In the past few years, Michele & Mark have helped my family buy & sell 5 properties and each time they make the process as smooth and as easy as it gets. For the homes we sold, knowing the market inside and out, they suggested selling prices beyond our expectations and sure enough, they got them! We couldn’t be more satisfied with this knowledgeable and experienced team that consistently goes above and beyond! ... Sara Maddox
I highly recommend the Michele & Mark Goodman Team to both “Sellers“ & “Purchasers” due to their unparalleled negotiation skills, their marketing expertise & their 24/7 availability to answer all my questions & handle all the intricate details of each transaction. I’ve hired them for 4 of my sales & purchases & would definitely hire them again because they exceeded my expectations, are dedicated, extremely knowledgeable, experts in their field, true professionals & definitely a 5 STAR TEAM ... Karen Levine
“We give Michele & Mark Goodman our very highest recommendation!! My husband who is a real estate attorney & I knew that we wanted Michele and Mark to find a buyer for our home and quickly! That was a good decision!! They found a buyer within a few weeks & negotiated a price of $82,000 higher than our asking. We have already recommended this team to clients and will highly recommend them to friends & family. They are true professionals!!”... Arnie & Resa Hauptman
“During our first meeting with Michele we knew immediately she was the person we wanted to help sell our home of 36 years. Every detail of the process was clearly explained to us and executed exactly as proposed. Michele helped us carefully review our offers and pointed out the positives and negatives of each one. In the end we got a terrific price for our home and we were very happy. We highly recommend Michele for her professionalism and many years of real estate knowledge.” ... Andrew & Sheryl Engel
“After researching and interviewing a number of realtors to sell our Massapequa home, we decided on using the Michele and Mark Goodman Team at Douglas Elliman Real Estate. Michele and Mark conducted thorough market research, had expert historical knowledge of the house and its community and were very knowledgeable of the various selling features the neighborhood offered. The Team’s confident approach to listing and marketing the property was effective, resulting in strong prospect interest and ultimately a very satisfying sales price within a short time frame. They also did an excellent job keeping us informed along the way and were, without fail, extremely responsive to questions sent to them regardless of the time of day.” ... Jeffrey Tomitz
