Growth Outdoor masterworks from a woman with landscape design in her roots

Landscape photography by Emma Almendarez Portrait by Shay Studios SELF-PROCLAIMED “GARDEN LOVER” and CEO of Branch Out Landscape Design, Jenny Crawford didn’t fall far from the family tree. The daughter of a landscape designer, she grew up in Puerto Rico helping Dad propagate waterlilies for his waterfall installations. “My father created the most beautiful backyards for me to play in as a child, and we had many because we moved frequently,” says Crawford, now a prominent landscape designer based in North County San Diego. “Moving to different environments taught me to appreciate and observe different aesthetic and cultural values in landscapes.” These days, Crawford gets her hands (two green thumbs included) on some of the region’s most captivating landscape design projects, recent examples of which she describes in the following pages. “The grounding effect of spending many hours outdoors has had a positive impact on me,” she says. “I hope my work elicits those feelings in others.”
