FIRST-YEAR STUDIO
PROJECT 2
For this project, students were challenged students to explore the relationship between textiles and unrelated visual imagery by combining elements from TADA textile photos with images. The goal was to study and replicate color palettes in different media encouraging experimentation and material exploration.

AVANT-GARDE PROJECT

Fashion and textile design students spend their first year mastering the fundamentals: color, line and form. For their final fall semester project in first-year studio, students create avant-garde garments in half scale. Designers had to incorporate 10 different shapes, as well as surface design and texture elements, into their final product.

LOUNGEWEAR COLLECTIONS
Seniors in fashion design use a family or friend as inspiration for their target market to design a line of athleisure, incorporating computer-aided design (CAD) software. Each colle one other technique that was new to the designers.

DRAPING PROJECT FINAL
For the final project in FTD 321, students must design, pattern and sew draped garments using the draping and 3D analysis skills they learned in the course.

INDEPENDENT STUDY
Lainey Volz created her collection, Fruit Salad, during her independent study course using the college’s labs and studios. Lainey was passionate about showcasing design for all sizes in her work, using fruit as a vibrant design element. Her collection was made even more personal with the support and participation of her own friends.

TEXTILE DESIGN
SOY TEXTILE COMPETITION
Fashion and textile design students participated in the Soy in Textile Design Challenge, also known as the Nextile Challenge, to showcase innovative clothing and accessories made from soy-based materials. This competition highlights the benefits of soy in sustainable textile design, encouraging creativity and growth in the industry.

FTD 201 WOVENS
In addition to learning print and knit design, students in FTD 201 are also exposed to jacquard weaving. For this project, students complete simulation workshops on technical logistics, the effect of filling color and presentation techniques. Using this information, students design digital weaving patterns that are then woven by the college’s Jacquard loom.

FTD 201 PRINTS
For this project, sophomore fashion and textile design students learn about color perception and reduction, develop color palettes and explore repeats and motifs. They apply this knowledge to design a digital print collection using computer-aided design (CAD) software. They then develop textile samples and use texture mapping to show how they would be applied as products.

Raul Lima | Fashion and Textile Design

FTD 375
In this class, textile design students learn about color, texture and structure in woven fabrics and weave three sets of samples as well as a final project. They also begin to learn about computerintegrated design for woven products.

FTD 475 ADVANCED JACQUARD WEAVING
take an in-depth exploration of jacquard weaving. Projects in the class challenge students to woven fabric collection based on their design inspiration. The final project involves students ting samples of their work from the semester, including fabric research and development.

FTD 476 JACQUARD KNITTING
This project explores the integration of artisan hand techniques with machine-knit fabrics. Using Shima Seiki Apex software, simple floral knit designs were created to provide space for embellishments like hand-dyeing and bead embroidery. Cotton yarns were selected for use on the 14-gauge SRY knit machine, allowing for the application of natural and sustainable fibers. The resulting samples are intended to support the development of high-end garments.
