ELLO READERS!

As we all know with the cancellations of events and Covid means there has not been much going on. So to reflect that I thought I’d put together something different that isn’t completely about the club. It’s about some things to do or watch whilst we are stuck in lockdown. We can’t just build cars or work out in the garden all day and night. Well some of us can but if you’re like me a need a break then check out these things to do.

So I have found some good car content on the internet and if you’re like me like a bit of resto mods on some older cars or even just some tech videos. If you have not seen Project Binky, then you need to. These guys are next level, this will leave give you a whole new appreciation of what goes into rebuilding a classic resto mod car. It’s a full on build, with a lot to take in but it’s not dull. They cleverly inject humour and it’s all good clean fun as they say. You won’t regret it. I have also found myself reminiscing about the good old days of rally whether it be group B or A. There is so much on Youtube nowadays. There are full rally reviews going back to the 80’s and I found them to be much more entertaining than today’s WRC. Some other mentionables Drive to Survive (available on Netflix) is very good and The Skid Factory on Youtube is also good. Now for something completely different and it will allow you to put the tools or remote down for a about an hour. It will also get you out of the house and down the street. It is also well within with the rules of restrictions. And no, it doesn’t involve getting groceries, doing exercise and it’s not getting vaccinated. These things are too obvious. What is it? Well, if you’re are like most people graving a bit of feel good in these days of depressing news articles and sad facebook posts there is something that almost everyone can do. It is something we all have in common. It is something that is warm but can sometimes be cold, it can appear blue but is really red... It will save people’s lives and might also save your own life at some point. I’ll give you a second. Its blood! More specifically giving blood. If you haven’t done this before then now has never been a better time to do it. It is rewarding, not hard and does not hurt. If you have thought about it before or maybe haven’t donated in a long time, I’m here to tell you to get to it. The bank is desperate and it’s for really good cause. Now I know that was all a bit different but we can’t unfortunately do much more at moment and I hope we can all get back to being a car club again very soon. If you have any lockdown hacks or things to do during these times, Shoot Mason an email and write an article. This can be about cars, racing, rally or anything you want. We want to hear from you. - Cary Seabrook, President.

I EVERYONE Well, another month in lockdown. (Its starting to get to me) I hope you are all keeping safe and well. This means we won’t be able to hold our next scheduled meeting on the 10th of September. This is rather disappointing as I could do with a night out. Though, I suppose it’s better to be lockdown than to be so sick that you have to be in hospital.

With all the events that have been cancelled lately, there is not much to report this month. Our next event that was due to be held in September has been rescheduled to October. There will be more information in magazine. It would be nice if the sun came out for a few days in a row, but being in Spring hopefully this happens shortly! Try and keep your chin up and stay positive. - Vicki Curry, Secretary.

E AGAIN FOR ANOTHER REPORT. The balance is sitting pretty at $66962.74. Not much else to say this month. - Gordon Ledwidge, Treasurer.

OUR EDITOR RETURNS! Yep, same title as last time. Pretty lazy!

I’m thrilled to announce that the Committee has organised a subscription to digital publishing service Issuu. This should solve any and all issues you may have with opening and viewing on your phone or computer, and hopefully not create any new ones! If you’ve read the Motorsport Australia Speed Read magazine, this service will be immediately recognisable to you. Issuu will also act as an easy archive for all of the magazines I’ve done in the past. If you’re feeling nostalgic, or you’re just looking for something to do, head over to issuu.com/nccainc/stacks and have a look at some of the previous magazines. That’s about it from me! - Mason Peart, Editor.

PDATE: Not much to say for autocross (VCAS) being stuck in the lockdown, next event was going to be at Shepperton on the 12th of September (round 8), however this will not be going ahead due to Covid-19 restrictions. Round 9 at SEAC park doesn’t look like it will be going ahead either on the 10th of October and we can only hope that round 10 at Geelong motorsport complex goes ahead on the 21st of November. That’s it from me! - Joel Scott, Autocross.

I ALL. Just a brief update. Moonlight Meander/Dan Murphy Memorial Rally has been cancelled. MMSCC have a date for next year to run the rally. Yarra Valley Stages is still pencilled in for the 6th of November at this stage.

The Middle of Everywhere Gippsland Rally is still a chance of running on the date of 16th of October.

The NCCA Rally Driver Championship is a close battle between David Lawrence on 231 points and Keith Cuttle on 235 points. Third place sits with Brett Mackieson on 179 points. Now for the Navigators.. Yours Truly, flying ahead on 236 Points with Darren Davidson not far behind on 229 points. Joely boy (Joel Scott) on 225 points. Thankyou all, I hope all is well in these troubling times. - Russell Seabrook, Rally.

I ALL!

Looks like we’ll be in lockdown for some time to come. I’ll have time to do some work on Masons GD and his road car, normal (Not funny- Editor) Subie stuff like gearboxes and leaking head gaskets! And plenty of time for a bit more work on the Z now the Alpine’s not running this year.

We’ve had heaps of new members join this year and are sitting at 327 members. A reminder to all members with Club Permits to keep your membership up to date and send permit forms with a self-addressed envelope to 32 The Concord Bundoora 3083 for me to sign. That’s it from me. - Aiden Peart, Membership / CH plate officer. If your membership is due for renewal this month, please click THIS LINK to renew online. It’s simple, safe, secure and will take no time at all.

I GUYS! As you would expect Motorkhana’s aren’t on at the moment due to the government restrictions, so I have had to look for other inspiration for my article. I’ve had a look back over the perpetual trophy. Here are some interesting facts I found.

First awarded in 1970, it appears to have been awarded 47 times. There has been 1 draw, back in 2008 with Andrew Woods and Ben Seidel. Andrew Woods is our greatest motorkharna driver, winning 7 times over a period of 18 years from 1992 to 2010. If you were looking at breeding the ultimate driver, you need to give them a name beginning with D or L. These are names of drivers who have won 10 times. The most successful family is the Stevenson’s with 2 members winning the championship (Daniel and Stuart). Surprisingly Daniel won before his dad Stu, showing that just because you’re old, it doesn’t mean you’re slow. Some of the most interesting names that appear on the trophy are Ley Grigg, Dick Denvil and Bill Nealy. There are a few club iconic names represented on the trophy, with Mammi, Woods, Seabrook, Stevenson, Bready and Peart (You have to look VERY closely for that one - Editor). Many of these names belong to legends of the club that are often great drivers as well as great contributors. My challenge to you is to put your name on the trophy or have fun trying. See you out there when we can. - Lucas Thorpe, Motorkhana Co-Representative
