PRESIDENTS REPORT Lynn Cuttle

Welcome fellow club members, I would love to start with thanking last year’s committee and helpers for all you hard work you have done for OUR CLUB. I would also like to welcome our new committee, I sense that we are going to have a fantastic year ahead. We are going to kick off the new committee and car club year with our next meeting on Friday 9th August, at RACE PARTY, 97 Camberwell Road, Hawthorn East starting at 7.30pm, and then going to Sofia’s Restaurant,857 Burke Rd, Camberwell afterwards for a late dinner. I would like to remind everyone that we as a club are a big group of people who have similar interests which is what has brought us all together and there are times where the spoken word or written text are taken the wrong way and people get upset, so let’s put a big effort into not letting this happen and everyone to stop and think about what they are saying and how would they feel if it was said in reverse. We need to make sure that everyone is treated with respect and, also have the chance to have/share in their own opinions. If you can’t say it nicely don’t say it at all. Please remember we all need to get along with each other and enjoy our sporting rivalry that we love to be a part of. The September club meeting on the 13th September Jackson Evans and Claudia DiGrazia coming to the club meeting to tell us about their Fink Rally adventures. I am also putting it out there, I’m wanting to arrange a Tech Talk meeting and would love some input on where you would like to go otherwise, I just might arrange for somewhere that your not interested in going /to. Bring a friend to our club meetings, (They will also keep you company on the drive to and from) we are trying to get more people to attend our meetings, so let us know what you would like to see or hear at our meetings. Challenge of Clubs weekend of motorsport 2020 is coming to you early next year 25 & 26 April based out of Haunted Hills. The format will change a little bit with taking into account the venue and its available facilities we will have a hill climb instead of an autocross. Please let me know if you are interested in coming onto the organising team. Vale – John Mason Some of our members will have known John Mason, John had been a long standing member of NCCA and when I was new to putting on events John was always there to help with Scrutineering and lots of general knowledge that he was willing to pass on with a smile. Thanks John and you will be missed. Remember to come and introduce yourself to me at events and functions that we might be at together. When I see or hear of members at an event, I also try to make an effort to come and say hi and see how your going. Its great to be at events and functions with our members but there’s more of you than me so please don’t be shy. See you in the forest, trackside, paddock and meeting soon.

SECRETARY REPORT Vicki Curry . Hi Everyone, Well, we are now on the home stretch towards the end of Winter. I would like to say a big thank you to the Committee Members who have retired and passed on the reins to “new blood”. Thanks for all the time and effort you give to the Club, it is very much appreciated. Next, I would like to welcome the New Members to the Committee. Welcome and I am sure that we can all work together to move the Club into the future smoothly and proudly. Having said that, I am again honoured to be Secretary. If you have any ideas for Club meetings/get togethers/ events, please let us know. We are only too happy to have ideas passed onto us. As for the raffle. If anyone has access to prizes at reasonable prices, or ideas for prizes, please let me know. Our next get together is a Slot Car night in August in Hawthorn East/Auburn. We then plan to head to a Pizza joint in Camberwell to finish the night off. (Looking forward to this) I hear the weather has played its trump card on the few of the scheduled events recently. Well, it is Winter and we do need the rain. (Sorry all you Rally people) I am sure the Magazine will have updates on the happenings for you all. Well, that it from me for now, please contact me if you need any information or would like to pass on information to others

VICE PRESIDENT REPORT Rhiannon Philpot-hale . Hey NCCA land Well so we start a new financial year with a brand new committee. Firstly a big thank you to all the previous committee members for everything you have put into this club over the past few years. Secondly welcome to all our new committee members and it’s great to see some fresh faces joining. NCCA is in good hands with our new president Lynn Cuttle behind the wheel. Now onto business... Our next club meeting will be a slot car night in Camberwell followed by dinner at Sophias also in Camberwell. All the details you need will be in this month’s magazine make sure you check it out and be sure to come along. It’s going to be great to do something different and will be fun for the whole family. Planning for the christmas bbq and presentation night is well under way. We will have details closer to the dates. We also have lots of social events in the works for the rest of this year and the beginning of next year so make sure you keep an eye out for these. Besides the fun social events there are still plenty of rallies, autocrosses and motorkahanas left for 2019. Each of our amazing secretaries will provide you with more information on past and upcoming events. Lastly we want to hear from our amazing members.... Yes that means you out there in NCCA land. Our new editor is looking for articles to fill out magazine to bursting. If you have a great story to share please email us and let us know. It would be great to get to know what all our members are up to and how they are feeling about the events running in our Rally, autocross or motorkahna community. See you all at the next meeting!

TREASURERS REPORT Gordon Ledwidge

Working balance as at 27/07/2019 $25521.31 Another year begins for NCCA, welcome to our new folk on the committee and looking forward to a prosperous 2019/2020 fiscal year. There has been good ground work laid down for upcoming events and the results should come for Craig’s upcoming rally. Cary and his crew, another great job, has seen Nightmoves go from strength to strength, I believe a hard act to follow, great job. My ongoing issues have led to a minor stagnation on a couple of fronts, nothing that cannot be overcome, so onwards for my SSS and other activities. Will be a bumper year, with as I said a lot to look forward to. See you around the scene

EDITORS REPORT Mason Peart

Welcome to the August 2019 edition of the Nissan Link, the official magazine of Nissan Car Club Australia Inc. I hope you’re enjoying the read so far. As mentioned beforehand, we have farewelled some members of the previous committee and welcomed in a couple of new members. We say goodbye to Ian Curry, Aidan O’Halloran, Craig Jarvie and Stuart Stevenson, and welcome Leonie Clark as Rally Secretary, Lynn Cuttle moving from editor to president, Aiden Peart pulling double duties as Club Permit Representative and Membership Secretary and Evelyn Apted as Motorkhana Secretary. We thank the outgoing members for their assistance and contributions, and welcome the new members. A little bit about myself. I have worked alongside BlendLine TV for Victorian Rally Championship coverage as well as at track events. I have also worked closely with VCRS event organisers to provide official event coverage. I also help NCCA with social media content, and am working closely with Leonie Clark to expand social media presence. Being editor of the Nissan Link is an exciting opportunity that I am all too happy to have taken. It’s a different form of media that has it’s own set of challenges that i’m excited to take on. While there are differences between editing a magazine and editing a video, one thing that stays the same is the need for feedback. This is where you, a Nissan Car Club Australia Inc member come in. This is a club magazine, and there’s more to a club than a committee. We need to hear from YOU, our members! My aim as editor is to make the magazine as interesting as possible, and in order to do that it’s important that I have input from club members as well. What sort of content would you like to see in the magazine? What do you like about this magazine and what could be improved? Feedback is important, and is needed. Any feedback can be emailed to me at enquiries@masonpeartmedia.com.au I look forward to being the editor for the Nissan Link and I’m excited to work with both the committee and the club members. **Dates for the magazine have changed. Articles are now due on the 25th of every month and the magazine is now published on the 30th of every month**

RALLY REPORT Leonie Clark

Hey there folks, firstly I’d like to say a huge thank you to the outgoing committee for your service and dedication to the club. I’d like to give a special thank you to Craig Jarvie for running this section previously as well as directing his own event “Yarra Valley Stages”, hopefully you’ll get more time back now Craig! Let me re-introduce myself, I love rallying. I make up 50% of German Technik Motorsport rally team with Tim Clark in our VW Mk1 Golf. (what a sprightful beast she is!). In between VCRS events, when he’s allowed, Tim is currently doing up a Subaru WRX STi (ex-Lindsay Wright rally car) to eventually enter some crazy fast VRC events in the coming year(s). Though we haven’t done much rallying this VCRS season due to some ‘technical difficulties’ we have been officialling at the first 2 rounds, until we eventually entered VCRS Round 3, German Technik sponsored Nissan Nightmoves. This was a fantastic first event back after 18 months hiatus from our last competitive event. We were up against amazingly strong crews, the roads were spectacular and fast. Congratulations again to Cary Seabrook and his team for putting on a great event 2 years in a row. I look forward to bringing you all the VRC. VCRS and any other rally special events that our members are competing in. GO TEAM NCCA!! Our next calendar events are as follows: 27/07/19 VCRS Rd 4 Daryl Tunbridge (Postponed due to poor weather. Scheduled for 05/10/19) 24/08/19- VRC Rd 4 Pedders Eureka Rush (Organisers are still looking for Controls and Road 25/08/19 Closure Officials) 22/09/19 VCRS Rd 5 Yarra Valley Stages (Please reach out to Craig Jarvie or his Officials CoOrdinator if you can help with a Control or Road Closure. Supps to be released soon. I would like to extend a congratulations on behalf of NCCA to all the people and crews that are involved in rallying, at the time of the results being published, NCCA is leading the Champion Club series by 34 points. Way to go! CHAMPION CLUB POINTS 1st NCCA 1166 points 2nd HRA 1132 points

AUTOCROSS REPORT Russell Seabrook

Hello NCCA People. Y’all are stuck with me for another 12 months! I’ll start with thanking everyone who showed up to the Annual General Meeting. We even made the quorum this year so we’re a club again! Welcome to the new team of committee members. “We will make NCCA great again”. Alright, now to the Autocross news. Round 2 of the series was held at bagshot on the 30th of june and it was a wet one! Ironic since it was postponed because of dry track conditions. We got 5 runs in during the day with every run getting faster and faster as the cars threw the mud to the side of the track. Results for us NCCA crew were: I, Russell Seabrook placed 7th outright 1st in class Glenn Scott 11th outright 3rd in class Joel Scott 12th outright 1st in class. Round 5 is being held in Maffra on the 27th of July. See you there!

ROUND 5 SUMMARY Leonie Clark

The Saturday night saw Cary 1st in class, 12th outright Russell 2nd in class, 25th outright Glenn Scott 5th in class 44th outright Tim 7th in class Joel Scott 5th in class 43rd outright Evelyn 19th in class (but not last) for first time out The next Autocross is slated for August 18th.

MOTORKHANA REPORT Evelyn Apted

Hey all, Firstly, I would to thank Stu for his many years of service in the Motorkhana Secretary role and for his assistance and guidance by helping me take on this role. I would also like to thank the rest of the committee for welcoming me into this position. This is my first year competing with the juniors in the events and I am really enjoying it so far. Everyone has been really friendly and supportive and it’s just an awesome environment in general. As for motorkhana, the latest round of Group 5 motorkhana was held in Altona on the 20th of July and consisted of a come and try motorkhana during the afternoon with the main event being held during the evening. We had 6 NCCA members competing: Tim Clark – 9th in class and 31st outright Lucas Thorpe – 3rd in class and 14th outright Jarvis Thorpe – 2nd in class and 24th outright Evelyn Apted – 3rd in class and 21st outright Leonie Clark – 1st in class and 17th outright Abbi Kennewell – 4th in class and 30th outright The next Group 5 event will be a Khanacross to be held on the 15th of September at the Geelong Motor Sports Complex. Hope to see lots of you out there on the day!

Report continued next page.

RACING REPORT Callum Wright

Hi All, Mark Splittgerber seems to be our only runner for the latest round at Sandown. HE finished 6th in class with a very respectable 1:30 Well done Mark, keep up the good work. Petrina has provide her usual summary quite quickly, so here it is: We visited Sandown on what had to be one of Melbourne’s coldest and foggiest days. As we cautiously drove into a pitch-black eerie paddock at 6.30am, the thought crossed my mind, “what the hell are we doing here?” We could not see the paddock, we could not see the track. We could barely see each other. That theme continued well after driver’s briefing and well after my first cuppa, stretching to almost lunch time. The soup-like fog conditions made competing unsafe and undriveable. At 11.20am the track was declared fit for purpose, and away we went. Well at least, some of us did. My woes continued in my Little Clubbie. While the Husband (and many others) drove gloriously by, my Little Clubbie struggled to find her rhythm, while I struggled to find third gear. My new engine is great, my gearbox is not. As any Clubman driver will tell you, Clubbies are confidence cars. My Clubbie and my confidence have gone fishing. Without me. I do hope they come back soon. Meanwhile back at Soupy Sandown as the sun struggled through layers of dense fog, the fun-dial was turned up. While competitors were keen to get started, kudos to you all for taking it easy – at least for the first run – on what was a slippery and cold track. Thank you for your patience and understanding around a frustrating start to what ultimately was a good day of competition. Despite the funky fog, we managed to offer each driver 4 runs. A special shout-out to the flaggies who were manning their posts in the fog from 9.00 am and patiently waited for the day to begin. They did an excellent job on the day. Congratulations to Peter Nowlan and his Bullet, who clocked a super time of 1:17:7. It was a tight battle for second place with Keith Marriner and his well-sorted Caterham (1:24:3), just pipping Rob “Splatty” Splatt in his beautiful AMG (1:24:4). Could it be that Keith’s new simulator business is working for him in more ways than one? Our next round is at Winton on Sunday 11 August. “Santa” Rae is getting ready to open this event, so keep an eye out for his email confirming entries are open.

MEMBERSHIP/CLUB PERMIT REPORT Aiden Peart

Hi. My name’s Aiden Peart and I’m the new Membership Secretary. I’d like to thank the outgoing Membership Secretary for his good work over the last few years and his efforts in refining the database to make the job far easier than it was when I last attempted it! Many of you may also recognise my name as Club Permit Secretary, a role I’ve been in for a number of years now. On the subject of club permits, I’d like to send a gentle reminder to all those with club plates, please ensure your NCCA membership is always current. The club is required by law to notify Vicroads within 14 days of a club permit holders’ membership expiring. In the past as a courtesy, I’ve tried to contact club permit holders if I’ve noticed their membership has lapsed. However with increasing numbers on club plates (136 members and rising!), this is becoming increasingly difficult to do. So, I hand your responsibility over to you! Please keep track of your membership. Since I’ve had the key to the membership filing cabinet we’ve had two new members join the club. Welcome to Chris Gates and Aaron Larkin. This brings our total up to 293 members, a healthy number! Don’t forget our bi-monthly club meetings at The Manningham in Bulleen, Or perhaps one of our Nissan NightMeals gatherings may suit you better. Please keep an eye on the Nissan Car Club Australia Inc Facebook page and the Vice President’s report in the magazine for details. I’m always available to answer any queries regarding club membership or permits on 9467 6191 or by email, robertcoopermotors@bigpond.com Cheers!
