President Welcome to May 2020 (or so it seems sometimes – actually I think it is 2021), Last month’s garage crawl at Chas Talbot’s workshop was awesome in my opinion and I only got to listen to half of what was said due to going to collect the pizza’s, but the feedback from the few who were able to attend was positive. I’m looking forward to our next meeting on Friday 14th May. Come along and tell us how you went at Mitta, Ada, Vic Cross, Haunted Hills and where ever you may have been or how you are going to go at Marysville on the weekend. Please come along if you can and remember to bring a friend for company on the drive to and from, because Melbourne traffic is horrible to travel in by yourself. I hope everyone’s competitions in whatever you are doing after lockdown is going to plan this year. We have got our AGM in July and I would like our members (THAT’S YOU) to think about stepping up and taking on a position within the committee. I will be stepping down as Keith and I are moving to Western Victoria (very western) and will be just too far away to attend committee meetings etc. We are looking at a Victorian government initiative for funding through Motorsport Australia, so if you have any idea’s about what and how, please let the committee know and we will see what can be done. I would also like to mention how well Mason Peart Media is doing with the filming and the presentation of the VCRS this year with backing from Indian Motorcycles Geelong. You are doing an awesome and professional job, well done Mason. Check out his videos on his Facebook page. See you soon.

Vice President Nissan Car Club Australia is on the hunt for a new VP! If you’re interested in this role, and believe you can bring fantastic ideas and positive contributions to our club like our previous VP, contact Lynn via email: klcuttle@gmail.com - Mason

Secretary Well, the year is now well and truly underway. The motorkhana season has been up and running pretty much since January. We have an event coming up this month. It will be at Werribee and here’s a first for the Club. THE CLUB WILL PAY THE ENTRY FEE FOR ANY CLUB MEMBER WHO ENTERS THE EVENT AND COMPETES ON THE DAY. Werribee is always a great day of fun. Sometimes dusty, sometimes slippery, what will it be this year? Our next Club meeting is on the 14th May at the Manningham. It will be a bit late for Mother’s Day, but I will have some great raffle prizes on the night. We are looking for ideas for our off-month meetings. If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know. Maybe someone has a great little restaurant or activity that we could all enjoy. Well, that’s it from me for this edition of the magazine. I hope to see lots of new faces at the Manningham Hotel on the 14th May for our next meeting.

Treasurer Balance as at 24/04/2021 $36174.57 Some of us from the club had an evening with Chas Talbot and his race cars. It was a very enlightening evening. It was not an easy drive way to find off Wellington road not far away from the Boral quarry. Thanks to Lynn’s Pulsar parked on the side of the road, we found Chas’s drive way. After the introductions, we then were taken up to his workshop and some mighty machinery was found. A couple of Formula 5000,s and a Hill climb special. A twin VW engine powered historic vehicle. The rear one, supercharged linked to a front one and in the process of being restored. A very interesting night plus pizzas. At present, my SSS has stagnated somewhat as I am still waiting on my cylinder head upgrade to happen by Crankshaft Rebuilders. Have been filling the pressed out panel holes in the rear of the car. Have received a new timing chain kit to install as soon as the head is ready to fit. Have some images of my progress. I read some sad news of the passing of Geoff Portman on the 20th April, very sincere condolences to Geoff’s family and fellow rallyists (if that is a word), a sad day indeed.

Editor Not much to say again this month, just a reminder about the Nightmoves

change, it’s now the 26th of June.

I’d also like to put up an EOI on behalf of someone who contacted me regarding selling his Stanza. It’s done 530,000km. It runs, drives and has rego. He’s not in a hurry to sell, and he wants it to go to the right buyer. Contact me for more info!

Please note also the NCCA Khanacross coming up this weekend. Free entry to all club members is VERY enticing, so make sure you get amongst it!

Rally ** No report**

Motorkhana Hi everyone The previous round of our club championship has been run and won. Unfortunately our defence of the group 5 championship might be in tatters due to no NCCA members competing. The next round is on May 8 (the day before Mother’s Day) and it’s our round. Stuart Stevenson will be directing this event which is a Kharnacross. For those who don’t know -Kharnacrosses are great for people who suffer from memory loss and can’t remember a Motorkhana course. You are not at such a disadvantage because the tests are a lot easier and simple to follow. Also cause it’s group 5 - you can have a passenger directing/egging you on. Apart from a car that starts your car will need to be able to stop steer and have a fire extinguisher (charged and in date )fitted. The only other requirement for you good folk is road tyres - not winter tread or rally tyres.

Ok NCCA members MAY 8 is your chance to represent our club in our Round of the G5 championship for FREE - that’s right we will cover your entry fee. I can’t wait to see you all there. Last weekend we had a great time competing in the Terry Baker Motorsport weekend. This is a 3 event weekend where you can compete in individual components or all three. Jarvis and I competed in all 3 components. While Andrew Schultz rearranged his brothers 50th so he could thrash our Silvia around on the Haunted Hills Hillclimb. At the Hillclimb we were also joined by Rhys Thompson in a turbo 86 and his son Campbell in a solid WRX (both road going cars). The weekend for us started at 6am on Saturday morning we headed to the meet point - a BP servo outbound on the Monash in Officer. Here we were greeted with a fleet of Escorts (the cars) and a large selection of race cars on trailers. The big advantage of this meet point was Macca’s was attached to the servo so we could get some breakfast as well as check out the other cars while talking smack. A little after 7am we were on the road - Jarvis navigating in the scavenger hunt. The hunt takes you to the race track kinda via the scenic route and has you counting ripple strips, looking for foundation stones (that didn’t exist) and following reasonably straight forward directions. Upon completion of the scavenger hunt we arrived at the Haunted Hills race track. We were greeted with more race cars who cut and run the scavenger hunt or could be bothered taking the

scenic route. We unloaded our beast and were given test sheets for the bitumen Motorkarna run in 2 of the 3 car park’s. We spent the afternoon running the tests which were reasonable but still required a level of concentration as to follow the correct directions. A total of 8 tests were squeezed into the afternoon. The evening consisted of a meal at the local pub - but we spent the evening with family in Trafalgar. We had a good nights rest and woke up refreshed to arrive at the race track for the Hillclimb at about 9am. Some of the other competitors looked like they had had too much fun. There were more people and more cars. Terry Baker rocked up to check out the proceedings, he even had a photo taken with some of the race cars (like ours) there was a small amount of rain falling which was causing me an amount of worry and questioning why I was using semi slicks Jarvis drove the Silvia for the parade lap and told me there was more grip than what I would expect, he also noted that the ripple strips didn’t offer much traction. After the parade lap I was on the start line somehow I drew car 4. There was grip and the car was running fine. Jarvis drove well and within his limits Andrew drove well and happily sideways and I found my limits on the 5th run which resulted in a off track excursion.

Campbell at his first ever event was setting some great times. His father Rhys was about to kick him out of home but pulled a dryish track to set a good time. The results are not in yet - but I think Young Cambo might have piped the old man. I think a great weekend was had by all and we were definitely happy to load the car onto the trailer in one piece after the wet conditions and a great challenge.a

Autocross Hey all. Welcome to April’s addition of the VCAS Autocross article. Round 2 of the series was held at Bagshot Motor Sport Complex. The four usuals showed up to represent Nissan. A good turn out of 60 entries. The day started off very crisp with a cool breeze keeping everyone’s jumper on. Mother Nature blessed us with a small shower of rain after everyone’s 3rd run to keep the dust down (for about 10 cars) then back to dusty Bagshot. 6 runs were had by most, all in a good day. (Insert results) Round 3 is being held at Ballarat by BLCC on the 3rd of may, road tyres only. See you there!
