President Welcome to our June Nissan Link! This month we have our Nissan Nightmeals and we are going GO KARTING at ACE KARTS instead of a meeting at The Manningham. Last month was an exceptionally bad attendance at the MGM at The Manningham, with only 4 people attending, with 3 of those being committee members. We’re after feedback because to have the meetings interesting we need to have you show up and have some input. Onto more club stuff, Motorsport Australia have advised us that there is a grant that we may be able to access for club equipment etc, so if you have an idea on what you feel the club needs, then please let us know by the Nissan Nightmeals dinner on 11th June at ACE KARTING. Next month (JULY) is our AGM where all committee positions become vacant, if you have an urge or an interest to join the new committee then please put your hand up and let us know. As a committee member it is a rewarding job, that is a fulfilling exciting, self development, learning experience. You will find a link for nominations elsewhere in the magazine. Russell is organising our next Nightmeals, at Ace Karts in Altona so please contact him 0498 203 519 to book your Kart. Secretary I hope everyone is keeping safe and well. Our last meeting was a real fizzer…… I know there was a rally scheduled for the next day, but, a quick email/phone call to let me know if you are coming or not would have been appreciated. Our next meeting is our Annual General Meeting in July. It will be held on the 9th July at the Manningham Club, Thompsons Road, Bulleen, starting at 8.15pm. You will find voting forms in the this and the next Club magazine. Please consider if you would like to stand for a position. We only meet as a Committee once a month and new people on the Committee is always a great idea. (we get new/fresh ideas for the Club). It would be great to see lots of faces at the AGM. There are guidelines that need to be followed to hold the AGM and one of those is to have a quorum. That is, enough people present to ratify the proceedings. So, come along and show your support for the Club. On a different note, I would like to congratulate all the members who have competed recently in the different events that have been happening. I have heard very good reports with many doing very well indeed. Our own rally, Nissan Nightmoves is coming up soon. If you can spare some time to assist in anyway, please let the organizers know. They will be extremely happy to hear from you. Remember, this is an event that is always seen as a showcase event by other clubs. Well, that’s it for me for this mag, hope to see you all soon!

Two weekends Two Rallies Two Cars Two States Two weather conditions So much the same but sooooo much different. Unbelievable! SA Rally of the Heartland – the rally of two Commodores, maaaate. The rally of dust and flat out roads. The rally of NCCA and FFCC in one team. Craig Jarvie and Anthony Morrow decided to take the two Commodores, green and orange, over to Burra, a historic mining town in SA, to experience what this rally had to offer. What an experience! We’ve known both the boys since they were really boys, so it was with real joy that we accepted the offer to go with them to help. Craig had Aidan O’Halloran and Anthony had Kim O’Halloran as Co-Drivers so it was a bit of a family affair. There was quite a group of “helpers” with the two cars. Roger Morrow, Anthony’s father and long time friend of ours, Sylvia Jarvie, no explanation needed, Terry Dunn and Luke Sytema, Service Crew extraordinaire, Jan and I along with Leah, future Speedway star, all made the journey. Enough to say about the journey is that it’s a long way. Two days for most of us but Terry and Luke did it in one day, in the van. Most of us stayed in Farrell Flat – an ancient Pub, with what could only be described as having Character. A “congenial host” at the pub was also a “character”. Terry decided to be kind to us and rented an AirBNB – so that we could get some sleep away from his snoring and Luke and the Morrows found a unit in Burra – closer to the action. Thursday – all but the van got there. Friday – Craig organised golf at Clare (Great idea, can’t say the same about the golf). Terry and Luke arrived, set up the service area and then we had a “team meal” at Farrell Flat. Saturday – Day one of the rally. Day One – we learn what we didn’t know. Like – you don’t get route instructions until you’re on the start line, You don’t get service instructions until your car has left. We don’t know how much fuel the cars will need on the very different roads. We don’t know how the tyres will fare. So after a long transport and a chase by a service ute, a fuel top up, the crews are off into the unknown. Wow. Nothing like what they have been on before. Fast, dusty, straight roads with less than comprehensive route charts. Onus on the driver! Both Kim and Aidan decided to stop looking at the RallySafe speeds after seeing over 190 k’s. The crews managed their job remarkably well and we managed to work out an intercept point for refuel even though Roger and I were a bit displaced for a while. At the end of the day the two cars had moved up the order quite a bit, although actual results were hard to get. Day Two – it was easier to plan for even though route and service instructions were still held until the cars were on the line. So we were able to plan the servicing side of things easier. The crews kept things going and became two of the favourite things that spectators waited to see. Having
said that, there was only one spectator point and that was in Burra. The others had to be “found”. so there weren’t too many people there. So back to Burra at the end of the day. We were all happy and pleased with the way the crews had gone but didn’t know what the results were – until Craig got a message that he and Aidan had won a prize. They ended up 9th O/R in the SARC and won 1st CRC/G2 class. We then started to work out Anthony and Kim’s result and found that they were only 17 seconds behind. So a terrific result for both crews. We had a terrific time at the rally and drew closer to everyone in the group. Terry and Luke did a fantastic job as the “main men” in the service crew while Roger and I were excused from the heavy work and pretty much just fapped around. A great shared experience with mates. Will we be there again? Have to wait and see………… __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
MARYSVILLE STAGES Marysville Stages – the Rally of the Snow, back to Victoria, VRC and VCRS. Many of the crew went to this event, though in different roles. Anthony, Roger and Terry all serviced for Luke, driving rapidly in the Escort, as usual. Craig drove the green machine again Aidan and I drove the 0 and 00 cars (with Daryl Williams and Denise Chenhall calling instructions) Jan was there of course and Kim and Leah came up for the afternoon, to sit in if needed. Greg Chenhall became the service crew for the zeros. So some of it same, same, but that’s about it. Marysville, home of up hills and down, many corners and no dust. No dust of course if there’s SNOW. This caused huge changes to the running of the event –something which John Roberts handled remarkably well. VRC –This event was decimated because of the conditions. Fewer than one third of the field were through SS2 when SS3 was cancelled, forcing the cancellation of SS2 since the two followed on from each other. SS3 was completely covered with snow for about 8 km and so could not even be used to transport through. These stages were planned as SS6 and SS7 and were the longest in the event, so this caused a major revision. To make up Heat 2 and form the remainder of the event SS4 and SS5 were run twice after reassembling at Marysville. SS1 had a little snow towards the end but was slippery in the middle. Franco Luicci/Barry Sheridan (a NCCA entry) had made a great start by leading after SS1. From here though Darren Windus/Joe Brkic (NCCA) took over and were not headed. SS4/6 was the roller coaster of Grantons – a short sharp blast on reasonably good roads. How many were brave enough not to lift over the crests?? SS5/SS7 virtually snow free, except for the verges of the road. Great confidence restorer and great fun to drive. Only trouble was a delay caused by 4WD incursion from a walking track, meaning that crews towards the tails of the field had to run the stage in dark – without driving lights fitted.

I’ve got to mention Luke, not one of our members but a part of this narrative, for his excellent performance in this event. He chased Brendo very closely the whole way. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________ VCRS – even more changed due to the changes in the VRC. They would run SS1 late afternoon and then SS4 and SS5 at night – a much altered itinerary. At least they had the two best stages of the event. NCCA was extremely well represented in this event having members in more than half of the field. The only stories I’ve heard of involve our two DNF crews. Brett Mackieson/Stephen Doughty had started extremely well by winning SS1. Then had their bonnet fly up at speed on SS4 doing damage to a lot of things. Hope the repair is quick. Aaron Van Winden / John Stirland fell over and finished on their roof on SS8. They had been doing well in 8th position at the time. The event saw the return of Cary Seabrook with his brother giving instructions. He was into it from the start and took out a fine win against some tough opposition. Keith Cuttle with Declan Kirkham offered Cary good back up – always solid. Glenn Scott with Joel Scott are showing great promise so early in their venture into rallying. VCRS results

Membership Hi All, It seems that as the weather is getting cooler it’s time for another lock down in Vic. Hope we get out of this one in time for the Nightmoves rally later this month. We were due a break after a sixweek stint with a rally every second week, but I didn’t ask for this! On the membership front we are going well with 308 members, that’s a good number if we’re talking cubic inches! Next month is the AGM, so if you wish to help steer the Club have a go at being on the committee, all jobs are up for grabs. If you cannot join the committee, at least come to the AGM and vote. Rally Hi everyone, the Marysville stages was run Saturday 15th of April. A combined VRC/VCRS. A cold wet and snowing day which resulted in cancelled stages. The VRC had 6 stages. Motorkhana Hi guys, welcome back to another installment of the Motorkarna report. We have run our round of the group 5 championship and from what I’ve heard it was the best round so far. Stuart directed the day and utilised the Bathurst style layout. This layout makes great use of the test area and also avoids the sump killer(a volcanic rock that even the titanic wouldn’t attempt to pass). Being a Khanacross the lazy garage system is easily the best system for timing. Abbi, Lea Stuart and various other competitors assisted with the timing. We had 2 cars and 6 drivers spread across the 2 cars so I was on full duties. Kylie Jarvis and Robin were driving our new (to us)R31 for a bit of RWD action. Andrew Declan and I were in our SSS pulsar. Abbi Lea and Stuart were putting the old faithful RWD Subaru RX between the flags with great enthusiasm. The Khanacross format definitely suited our cars and competitors, probably because we have bad memories as well as heavy right feet. NCCA won 4 of the 8 classes. The biggest class was class L which Kylie took out closely followed by Lea (2nd in class) and Abbi (3rd in class) Renee Camilleri came 7th in one of her first events, she had to overcome some very wet conditions as well as leaving early to knock back a few frothies Declan had his first class win taking out inexperienced juniors (in his second event) as well as a couple of flags along the way. I was a permanent fixture riding shotgun and applying the handbrake when required Jarvis was having a bit of fun in the Skyline having to settle for second in class behind a mini moke but a big sideways smile on his face. Russell sporting the old school NCCA jumper in Red (better than white) drove hard but had traction problems due to a wet course he also had the frothy call and left early to lay some mud in the pub car park. I would love to see his times in the dry, he was 4th in his class Stuart drove like a man who was racing every second week. He knew the course and had a clean day/evening - taking out the class Robin Birchall’s approach to tame the Skyline was more mechanically sympathetic than its other drivers, changing from a 120y to a Skyline was a big shift he was 5th in class. Andrew Schultz, drove well only hitting one flag. I think that he was suffering from not having me in the car egging him on. He was fourth in class. Somehow I won the class and finished 1st outright. The rain Gods hooked me up with a hand and almost unfair advantage that I had no idea about until the results arrived. Our next event is planned for 4th July at Toyota in Altona on the bitumen these events are really fun and I recommend you all come along- lets see you out there contact me if you would like more information scenic route.

Autocross Hi all. Me again.. Round 4 of the VCAS series was held in Boisdale at the MADCC track. 7 runs all up were had most. The track was a little “overwatered” before the first run which made for a muddy underside of the cars. No major mishaps this year, only a couple missing panels on a handful of cars. Results for Boisdale Nissan only Cary 1st Russell 2nd Glenn 3rd Joel 4th Next event is being held at swan hill on the 5th and 6th of June. Be there or be square!
