AUGUST 2020

PRESIDENT LYNN CUTTLE I would like to welcome our new committee for 2020 / 2021, thank you for stepping up and assisting with our wonderful club moving forward. I would also like to thank the last committee for everything that you have done for the club in what has been a very challenging year for everyone. Now onward and moving forward, as this COVID 19 seems to be making life more challenging than anyone thought, we as a committee have felt that since we cannot have club nights or Nightmeals these day’s then the next best thing would be to have Friday night drinks at home via Skype from 7.30 ish on. Click / tap this icon to join the meeting

Or type this link: https://join.skype.com/XX1uQSoyhLKa So I would love to see as many people as possible so that we can catch up and have Coffee, Tea, Milo, Beer, Wine, Bundy or soft drinks this Friday and then any Friday after that until we can finally meet face to face. Catch you soon.

SECRETARY VICKI CURRY Hi All, Well, here we are again, back in lock down. The year has been a real sad affair. So far, we have only seen each other at the Presentation Night and our first Club meeting of the year. I think you will all agree, WE NEED TO GET OUT THERE AND HAVE SOME FUN. The Committee have been trying to work out ways of getting together with you all. We have had an idea that maybe we could organise a “social get together” via Skype, Zoom or some other media format and you could join in. We could chat between ourselves and have a drink, nibbles etc. I will join in as I am slowly going insane. At this stage, we have not had any events since February and our first big event being planned is the Yarra Valley Stages which is due to be held in September. I hope we can still go ahead with this. I think Craig has also looked at an alternate date later in the year if the Government says no. (I hope not) We are currently planning our annual Christmas BBQ. Hopefully we will be allowed out and about by then. It will be at the usual place but on the 5th December. We will keep you updated on this front too. Ken and Nong are looking forward to seeing you all again. If anybody out there needs someone to just talk to, please feel free to call me. I am happy to chat to anyone. My number is 0439 144 997

Super Special Stage Sausage Rolls

vice president.

The directions Preheat your oven to 200°C Dice onion into small pieces. Grate carrot and zucchini. Use a paper towel to squeeze excess juice from both of these grated vegetables. Place onion, carrot, zucchini, both minces and garlic into a large mixing bowl. Combine this all together using a wooden spoon. Once combined add in 1 cup of breadcrumbs, tomato sauce, nutmeg, Worcestershire sauce and 1 of the eggs, lightly whisked. Using your hands (or spoon if you prefer) mix all ingredients until well combined. If you are finding the mixture too wet and not sticking together add more bread crumbs until you find the right consistency. Cut your square puff pastry sheets in half to create to rectangles. Place 4 tablespoons of mince mixture at the top of each rectangle. Spread the mix down the middle of the pastry adding more mixture if you need. Note: You can also add more mixture if you like full sausage rolls. You should end up with nice even lines of mixture from the top of the rectangle to the bottom. Whisk the remaining egg in a bowl. Brush one edge of each of the rectangles down with the egg. This will help seal the pastry. Roll the plain edge over the mixture to meet the egg washed side and seal the mince mixture inside. This should form a long roll with each end open. Depending on how large you wish you sausage rolls depends on how you cut these: A) Cut them into 5 mini rolls B) Cut the in half to make 2 medium sized rolls C) Leave the whole for a giant roll Once cut, coat with a layer of the egg to give it a nice glaze and brown colour. Tip: You can also use milk to create this look. Sprinkle with sesame seeds, or not, the choice is yours. You could also use poppy seeds. Place in the oven for 20 minutes. Turn the oven down to 180°C and bake for a further 10 minutes, or until golden brown.Take out and let cool. Serve with the classic tomato sauce and enjoy!

MEMBERSHIP AIDEN PEART Hi all The last month has been busy on the membership front, and there is always a number of club permits to sign and keep track of. To limit face-to-face contact and minimise travel, please mail permit renewals to me for signing, along with a stamped self-addressed envelope. In the last few months, we have had some new members join our club, welcome Nanette Owen, Ralph Keable and the Meyers family Duncan, Felix & Kaspar Meyers. Still no motor sport in Vic so the car stays clean for the time being. At least I live on a dirt road, I must be getting desperate for a rally if I’m having fun on the way home from work in an auto 1985 Corolla July Expiries:

MOTORKHANA LUCAS THORPE Hi Guys, Thanks for voting for me in the election (all 3 of you). So Motorkhana’s have been a bit quiet of late, strangely enough, but I’ve got plenty of information to share with you. There may be a few people out there that a feverishly working in their sheds night and day preparing the ultimate Motorkhana slayer. If you are, give me a call and let me know what’s going on. So let’s talk about NCCA and our Motorkhana championship. The NCCA championship piggy backs on the Group 5 championship which usually consists of about one event each month. The majority of these events are but to spice things up there are a few Khanacrosses thrown in. These are really good for the demented few who struggle to remember a simple course (I won’t mention any names here*). Group 5 events normally play out on grass which then turns to dirt which then turns to dust. If you add a bit of moisture to that - not from your car but from the sky, then your car will be pinging off the rev limiter like the kids after you give them a small sip of Fanta. Occasionally Group 5 events are run on a rather hard black/grey surface that causes smoke to be emitted from your tyres. If your feet are a bit heavy, these events are great fun. So you may be asking why has NCCA joined the Group 5 comp. Here in my opinion is why:

-

There are a number of events. You can have passengers (or navigators for those who get easily lost*) Beginners are more than welcome. The competition is friendly in nature. We also run a round.

This year we have a number of competitors all racing under the NCCA flag. We have profiles on the next page.

Next month I will give you a comprehensive guide to car preparation for a Motorkarna. All of which advice I have ignored and still lived to tell the story - I expect to catch up with you soon at the next event probably before the turn of the century.

STUART STEVENSON

SELIFORP

The original trouble maker. He has done every Motorkhana test known to man/woman/child and has great talent. He’s always prepared to lend a hand.

MI C AH THORPE His father holds the handbrake so he can’t reach his full potential but he is getting quicker.

MASON SKIDS M C PEART

JARVIS HSP THORPE

He is quick with great car control but sometimes gets caught up in a sideways moment. He loves skids. He has secured a sponsorship deal from a local media tycoon.

Has a freaky ability to remember tests, likes to smoke and break the bead on tyres. Lives in fear of beating his dad and getting kicked out of home. Loves HSP’s and can be bribed with them to take a dive

AIDEN PEART

LU C AS BANDIT THORPE

Somewhat possessed behind the wheel, laughing like a mad man as his passengers scream for their life. He is one of those guys that has dust between his teeth from smiling whilst driving with the window down sideways through his own dustcloud - but remember he’s just here for the kids.

Spends 1 hour remembering a straight slalom only to forget it on the start line.

ANDREW S C HULTZ

ABBI KENNEWELL

He doesn’t own and doesn’t fix the car and drives it like that. His biggest claim to fame is he beat Ross. He loves to help out as a passenger/navigator but sometimes accidentally gives you a wrong direction.

Ladies championship winning driver - She often just quietly goes of and completes a test without you even knowing. She responds well to a passenger egging her on.
