Your Monthly Circle to the Noosaville Business Community

Uniting Business & Community: NBA’s Christmas Wrap-Up

As we approach December, it’s hard to believe how quickly the year has flown! Welcome to this special combined November/December Christmas edition of The NBA Circle.

First and foremost, we’d like to thank all our members and the wider Noosaville business community for their support throughout what has been one of our most successful years in recent memory. We’ve seen strong engagement, delivered valuable events, and made real strides in bringing added value to our members.

In just the past four months, we’ve hosted our AGM, two fantastic Business After 5 (BA5) events, launched our first Coffee Connect this week, and are gearing up for our combined Christmas Party with Noosa Chamber next week.

We’re proud to have secured the grant from Noosa Council to develop our Strategic Plan, and have submitted an additional Economic Development Grant –we’re hopeful for a positive outcome and look forward to sharing more details soon.

A standout theme this year has been NBA’s commitment to representing the diverse business precincts of Noosaville Foreshore, the Noosaville Industrial area, and Tewantin. Our mission remains clear: to foster a vibrant, resilient, and connected business community

where every enterprise can thrive and contribute to the prosperity of our region.

Through collaboration, advocacy, and opportunity, we aim to empower our local business community – encouraging sustainable growth, building strong partnerships, and promoting a thriving local economy.

As we approach the holiday season, The NBA Circle will take a short break over December and January, returning in early February. While some businesses wind down, others – particularly in hospitality and accommodation –are entering their busiest time. Please know the NBA will remain available to support you throughout the festive season. We’ll be active on our social media platforms and available by phone for any queries.

Looking ahead to 2026, now is the perfect time to join if you're not yet a member – we already have some exciting events locked in for January and February!

On behalf of the entire NBA Committee, we wish you a joyful, safe, and relaxing Christmas and New Year. Thank you once again for being part of our vibrant community.

Warm regards,

— The NBA Committee

Sticking With Windows 10? Here's Why You Should Think Twice

Microsoft ended Windows 10 support on 14 October 2025. No more security patches or fixes. If you're still on it, here's the 60 second brief.

The big risks:

„ Security: Unpatched = permanent holes. Unsupported systems are prime ransomware targets, and some cyber insurance may exclude claims tied to unsupported OS.

„ Support and reliability: New app updates and hardware increasingly won’t work on Windows 10, causing crashes, workarounds, and downtime.

„ Compliance: Under the Privacy Act and industry regulations, “reasonable security” is hard to prove on an unsupported OS—expect audit issues, fines, and legal exposure after a breach.

„ Hidden costs: One incident (ransomware, data loss, downtime) can cost far more than upgrading or buying ESU.

What to do now:

„ Audit your fleet; upgrade eligible devices to Windows 11.

„ Use Microsoft ESU as a temporary safety net only where upgrades can’t happen yet (available through Oct 2026).

„ Plan a phased hardware refresh for non compliant machines.

„ Get managed IT support to execute with minimal disruption.

If in doubt, speak with your IT advisor.

Get To Know Our Noosaville Locals

From Fishing Lines to Bottom Lines: Cheryl Lacey’s Enduring Impact on Noosaville

Few names are as synonymous with community spirit and business dedication in Noosaville as Cheryl Lacey. As Customer Service Manager at BOQ Noosa, Cheryl brings a wealth of local knowledge, deep roots in the community, and a lifetime of entrepreneurial experience – all of which have made her a beloved figure among residents and fellow business owners alike.

Cheryl’s story in Noosaville began back in 1993 when she and her family made the bold decision to leave behind secure careers in Melbourne for a lifestyle overhaul in sunny Queensland. Together with her sister’s family, she bought Davo’s Bait & Tackle, then nestled on the corner of Gympie Terrace and James Street. It was more than a business move – it was a love letter to the Noosa River, inspired by a shared passion for the outdoors, boating, and of course, fishing.

That leap of faith turned into an 18-year legacy in local retail, with Davo’s growing from a modest tackle shop into what is now known as Tackle World Noosa at the

Bank of Queensland – Noosaville – Noosa Civic

Homemaker Centre. Along the way, Cheryl helped employ scores of young locals, supported countless school initiatives, and became a proud sponsor of numerous sporting clubs and community groups.

But her contributions didn’t stop at the shopfront. In the mid-90s, Cheryl co-hosted nine nationally broadcast episodes of The Rex Hunt Fishing Show, all filmed right here in Noosa – a feat never repeated at any other single location. The series not only spotlighted the beauty of the region but earned Cheryl a Noosa Tourism Award, cementing her role as a passionate ambassador for our area.

As a founding committee member of the original Noosaville Business Association – even before the year 2000 – Cheryl has always been driven by a desire to see Noosaville thrive, not just as a sleepy riverside village, but as a destination in its own right. She recalls those early committee meetings where local traders would gather to brainstorm ways to combat the quieter seasons and put Noosaville on the map.

One of the highlights of her time with the NBA was being part of the Noosa River foreshore beautification project in 2000, where the Association helped launch vibrant local events including street parades, food festivals, and live performances that brought the community together and showcased local talent and hospitality.

Now at BOQ Noosa – the very branch her sister and brother-in-law helped establish – Cheryl continues to champion local business and community causes. She sees her role not just as a banker, but as a connector, supporter, and advocate for the local economy. “When the community supported our business, we were motivated to support them right back,” she says.

Through every chapter of her journey – from the tackle shop floor to the bank counter – Cheryl has remained fiercely committed to Noosaville’s growth. Her advice for today’s new business owners? Build strong relationships, especially with your landlord, and ensure you’ve got a solid social media presence. It's timeless wisdom from someone who's navigated the highs and lows of small business with integrity, heart, and plenty of local knowhow.

Being part of the Noosaville community isn’t just a footnote in Cheryl’s story – it’s the very heart of it. And we’re lucky to have her.

We are delighted to invite you to discover the Gateway to Art Noosa, a vibrant Noosa Artist Precinct, located at Gateway Drive, Noosaville. This unique destination is home to more than ten distinct galleries, each offering its own artistic perspective and a truly magical experience.

This is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in our local arts scene, meet the talented artists and passionate gallery owners, and enjoy a glass of bubbles as you explore the diverse array of artwork on display. You'll find everything from contemporary pieces to traditional works, making it a perfect outing for art lovers and curious visitors alike.

As the festive season approaches, be sure to check each of the gallery locations. You might just find the perfect, unique Christmas gifts for your loved ones among the incredible creations on offer.

Cyber Security: Is Your Business Prepared?

Did you know a cyber attack is reported every six minutes in Australia?

For small businesses, the consequences can be devastating: lost revenue, damaged reputations, and weeks — sometimes months — of operational disruption. The average cost of a cyber attack on a small business is $49,600, and recovery can take up to 21 days. Even more alarming, 95% of cyber attacks involve human error — which means prevention is not only possible, but essential.

Introducing Cyber Wardens: Simple, Free Cyber Security Training for Small Business

To help protect small businesses like yours, the Australian Government has funded Cyber Wardens — a free, online training program specifically designed for small business owners and their teams.

This program is part of the national Cyber Security Strategy, aimed at building strong businesses and cybersmart citizens. It offers practical, easy-to-understand training that delivers real-world protection, with quick wins you can implement immediately.

Why Every Business Needs a Cyber Warden

Cyber Wardens is:

„ Free and government-funded

„ Flexible, with short courses in multiple formats to suit busy schedules

„ Trusted, already used by thousands of Australian small businesses

„ Jargon-free, making it accessible for all team members — regardless of tech experience

By empowering your staff to recognise and respond to cyber threats, you can significantly reduce your business’s risk and improve your resilience.

Take Action Today

Cyber security doesn’t have to be complex — or costly. But ignoring it could cost you everything.

Help protect your business from cyber crime with this simple, effective training. Click here to enrol in Cyber Wardens and start building your business’s cyber defences today.
