FORWAR D Welcome to our 30th Anniversary of Western Visions® 2017 marks a milestone for both Western Visions® and the National Museum of Wildlife Art as we celebrate our pearl anniversary. The annual fundraising events begin September 6 at the Four Seasons Resort with the ever popular Jewelry & Artisan Luncheon. This year Western Visions® ends on September 17 with a new program at the Museum, the Farewell to Fall Arts Brunch. This anniversary year the Western Visions® committee invited artists whose work is in the Museum’s permanent collection. Over 100 art luminaries are featured in the exhibition of paintings, prints, sculptures, and sketches. In honor of our 30 years, we offer a special bidding opportunity by presenting nearly 30 works in a Sealed Auction. The artists chosen for this privilege are previous Western Visions® award winners. Collectors interested in the featured work will place a maximum bid in a sealed envelope to be opened at the climax of the sale on the evening of Friday, September 15. The benefits of Western Visions® for the National Museum of Wildlife Art, participating artists, and art collectors are numerous. New and returning guests experience an engaging exhibition and exciting events. Local and visiting patrons meet contemporary artists and make new friends. Auction participants support the mission of the Museum by purchasing extraordinary fine art emphasizing humanity’s relationship with nature. Western Visions® continues to be successful thanks to the inspiring support of our dedicated Board of Trustees, staff, and volunteers. Our programs and events have grown throughout the last 30 years as a result of such unfailing generosity. We would especially like to thank our three top volunteer contributors from 2016: Diane Key, Nancy McCarthy, and Bobbi Thomasma. Our sincere appreciation is also extended to the Western Visions® Committee: Lynn Friess, Sue Simpson Gallagher, Kavar Kerr, and Debbie Petersen. We look forward to celebrating our 30th Anniversary with all of you!

Welcome to the National Museum of Wildlife Art’s 30th WesternVisions® Show & Sale. We are delighted and honored to share this place and this event with you! The passage of time is recognized with anniversaries. We observe them to commemorate events or individuals in our lives. They are important and often sacred. With the 30th Anniversary of the National Museum of Wildlife Art of the United States, we are cognizant of how swiftly time passes. We are also profoundly aware of how life catches us by surprise. We were both here 30 years ago. We celebrated the excitement and the promise of this Museum. We did not know what the institution would become but we knew because of the people and art involved that it would make an impact. It has been one of the great privileges and honors of our lives to be involved with this special place, the art that it exhibits and preserves, and the people who keep it growing, going, and alive. WesternVisions® started as a miniatures show. Artists from all over the world were included. Over the years, it has had several incarnations. But one thing has been constant. The show has consistently exhibited high quality art by exceptional artists. In recognition of the museum and show’s 30th Anniversary, we invited artists whose work is in our permanent collection. The outpouring of support and enthusiasm is amazing. We are humbled by it. We are grateful to be a part of WesternVisions®. As the Museum’s primary fundraiser, we are committed to its success. We are so happy to welcome you to our 30th Show & Sale. There is much to appreciate and savor this weekend. Enjoy every moment!

GEORGE NORT HUP In Memoriam
George Northup sculpted extraordinary art with his hands and a beautiful life with his heart. He created beauty with his curiosity and patient eyes. He was gifted in the art of friendship. George excelled in making new friends and loving old ones, making everyone around him feel important and special. He told great stories of adventures in the wild, never-ending tales, full of mischief, fun and humor. George made the best rhubarb pies with Martha Hansen’s secret crust recipe. You knew he loved you when he brought over a fresh-from-the-oven pie and shared it with your family. We were all well fed by George (and Kay), full tummies and hearts overflowing with their generous friendship. It’s an art in itself to create such a full life, a large life. George was a true artist. Thank you, George. - Stephanie Brennan 81

The majesty of nature inspired Charlie Russell to paint. So did the destructive power of men. Charlie Russell lived in a time when man’s impact on the West would change everything, except his own deep reverence for the beauty of the land and the magnificence of wildlife. It’s what compelled him to paint the dignity of nature, even while confronting the nature of man. Come experience the masterworks of one of the country’s most brilliant artists at the C.M. Russell Museum.
